i got one of those motorized standing desk frames but i still need a desk top; i'm thinking 1x4 pine, either biscuit jointed or tongue and groove to keep the boards together, this seems like a simple project but outside of home renovation shit i've never done a woodworking project. does anyone have any tips before i go out and spend a bunch of cash on lumber?

If this is your first attempt, you might want to look at a premade laminated blank, then cut and finish it to fit the base.

You might consider Poplar instead of pine, it'll hold up a lot better to desk use.

go to an actual lumber supplier and get a hardwood. maple, oak, or if you want to be gay, walnut. whatever it is, get s4s; it's the most expensive but will require the least work. glue it together on something flat with titebond 2 and sand it to 220 grit. then go to home depot, buy 2 rattle cans of lacquer, finish it and attach the legs

I'd go to home depot and get a prefab section of laminate countertop. Simple & easy. Plus the slick laminate surface is typically better for mouse use than finished wood would be.

You should be using some kind of mouse/desk pad under your mouse either way.

Why? I've never needed one. Never had a problem with tracking/accuracy and it slides on the laminate like it was floating on air.
