This is the longest I've ever held a job, and I actually enjoy it for the most part. But I asked for a raise at my three month mark, and the GC basically told me I'm too incompetent and replaceable to deserve a raise. I took it to heart, and ended up blowing off the next workday because I was so drunk. I guess I sort of assumed I could find another job, but they were all too far away (even if they paid more), so I came crawling back.Apparently my 12AM text woke him up, and that's mainly why he said "my respect for you went from here '-' to here '_', but instead of firing me he just transferred me to HVAC. I don't think he hates me, he just doesn't want to deal with me anymore. Apparently I'm "doing a good job" in HVAC as a total beginner (although it was recommended I apply more deodorant). But I'm still capped at 15 an hour. And I had a conversation with the GC today, about what economic value there actually is in bringing a new helper onto the crew (when it's been a three man job as long as I've been there), and he called it a 'mind-boggling question'. As in, it's a waste of time to ponder the systems and frameworks behind all of this in an economic sense.I would chalk it up to 'neurodivergence', but then again, it seems like just about every coworker I have is always talking about their "ADHD" or "dyslexia". The designer is literally a diagnosed sperg and it shows. It still feels like a hostile work environment to a degree, but I'm just grateful to have stable income. From what I understand, autonomy and efficiency are what's most valued on a jobsite, and I guess that's basically the reason they told me I'm not eligible for a raise. But the GC also said that "we don't discuss wages here" and the HVAC guy said "I'll let you know when you get a raise, don't ask", which seems like a red flag desu.Call me a faggot or a retard or whatever, thanks for reading my blogpost.
>>2983501This is how it is in the trades. Nobody is gonna pay you any more than the day they met you. Raises are for office workers. What you’re really getting is experience. Your value is effectively min wage + $1/hr per year you’ve been working. 10 years of experience gets you $20/hr with a $10 min wage.
try fewer words next time
>>2983501I would say you're being a faggot, but you need to reflect on "why." These people have lives and jobs to run. You need to make those easier for them. You're very focused on the meta (what are people thinking, how do employees move up, where's money going, etc), and that's something you'll only develop with experience and some practice on your own when you're competent to fly solo. It's far too early and it's detrimental to think about that. Right now, you need to focus on learning a trade and learning to be personable with your crew and customers. Be clean. Dress right. Own the right tools and be organized. Learn the fine details of your trade and nearby trades. Have humor but don't be too funny. High energy nerds should do less, always. If you do a whole bunch, but it's not 100% then your boss has to correct and redo it all. Don't do things in a way that they're ever slightly wrong. Just be immaculate, then they'll have to compete other companies for you. It takes time. hvac is kind of a blessing. You're getting your foot in the door to a trade with earning potential. There's a lot to learn. You'll be able to be autonomous without breaking your back, running crews and subs, or begging for raises the way you are now for an entire career. I would say run it until you get a full-time apprenticeship. Supplement with some courses.
I absolutely hate working with guys like you
>>2983510See you tomorrow chris :)
>>2983519Ironic because Chris is the name of a fucktard at my company>first day on a site>walks over to the journeyman>"Do you know how hard it is to get cum out of a fursuit?"

american work culture is funny. well, it's funny to me, sad for you.
>>2983501You asked for a raise after 3 months, with no experience, am I reading this right?
>>2983501>three months on the job>already asking for a raiseyou don't belong on the job site.
>>2983568bootlicking wagecuck or boss that sits in his truck all day, call it
>>2983660Even at McDonald's it takes 6 months just to figure out if you're going to show up more than half the time. Asking for a raise at 3 months is unrealYou need a new job because he already thinks you're a piece of shit, not because he's a bad a boss
>>2983666>satan tripsliterally didnt read this redditspacing gaylord
Sage>>2983668>reddit spaceReddit does three CR because their faggy ass board used to eat the first one. People have been doing 2 since email existed. You're fucking dumb to think it's a reddit thingChoke on a dick. Get out of the poop, faggot.
>>2983568>>2983554femanons, this is why you make 85 cents to the man's dollar.
dude wtf. unless you're one of the guys your boss actually needs to talk to just put your head down and work and don't bother him.
maybe don't do random no call no shows>>2983666asking for a raise right away as a laborer is not unreal...Thought I assume Op is a clown who doesn't have a drivers license and needs to be watched 24/7
>>2983660you literally don't have enough experience to be demanding raises, retard.
>>2983692Maybe if you're a welder or pipefitter and an old hand and tell the boss to hire you for $20/hour for the first week and put you on $60/hour after a week because you.know you're hot shit and will bust out jobs. But you agree to that before you even get the job. You don't accept a wage and come back a couple days later and be like 'um actually more please'You are still the new guy. You showed up not even yesterday to these guys, you showed up this morning
We usually start people at the lowest end for a 6 month probationary period and then bump them up after that if they make it that far. All in the employment contract/offer
>>2983744There are dumb chuds out there, getting raises you don't think they deserve, simply because they asked. These unwrittten rules of yours do not actually exist, are you just making excuses for your own passivity?
what a bunch of boomer mindbroke niggerfaggotsit was sop for years to have a 90 day review and pay bump at every job and anybody that says otherwise is full of shitbut this is a b8 thread so nevermind
>>2983501>ask for raise after 3 months of on the job training>no call no show>drunk>body odorYep, you really are meant for construction work.
>>2983845the "chuds" you're imagining are those who work fake email jobs in the office.
>>2983501>But the GC also said that "we don't discuss wages here" if you live in a one party recording consent state, get him on audio saying this then talk to a jew lawyer who will work on contingency.
the OP does sound way too young and in his head to really be that valuable at this point, but I will point outLikely he was being told "other people who offer way more productivity have put in far more time before receiving more for their labor, so read the room."then yeah, he got drunk as shit and texted his boss in the middle of the night? wtf dude.
and OP, the straight simple answer to your mind-boggling question is the obvious one. they are just fine without ypu, and there's a good possobility you are actually a drain on resources and the overall bottom line of THIS particular project. they are hoping training you is an investment that pays off. through diligence and application hopefully you someday get out of your head and become valuable enough you actually help the company make money. they are using the clients money to train you with what otherwise would be profit. and you were just shat into tour current role, they didnt ask for youthe fact that you want to waste the GC's time talking about this, not getting that you should be just learning as much as you can like a sponge, really is mind boggling.then yeah, the you basically rage quit, get drunk, quit the rage quit then post here? Yikes bro
>>2983501Shut up and do your job. HVAC is piss easy work, even easier for an autist like yourself. Quit being a retarded zoomer.
I'm a painter/drywaller. Started at 15/hr three years ago, I now make 20.It's absolutely insane to me to ask for a raise after three months. In construction, you are not profitable for a very long time, everybody sees you as a paid intern until you can go on jobs on your own. Until then, you suck it up, make a good job and ask for a raise ONLY when you know you've gotten better, which won't be before next year. And you better be able to back up your raise request with tangible, material proofs that you've gotten better.
bunch of boomers ITT think its the 70s and you earn a raise by paying your dues or some gay shit. reality is while you are kissing ass and being the gopher for three years, some 20 year old mexican with 10 years experience working under his dad will poach that promotion you were supposedly earning.in reality if you are a whiteboy, you learn everything you can at this job and you get a raise by interviewing at a different company in a couple years. nobody is "investing" in you except for yourself.
>>2984266I don't think that people quite understand how fucking hard it is to get a dude that's reliable, skilled, and doesn't have some sort of debilitating personal life issue that will at some point become an issue at work. >>2984603Depends on the contractor. I know if I get a guy that's reliable and doesn't have some sort of construction industry standard life issue (dope fiend, felon on probation, etc. etc.), that my company will 100% invest in advancing their skills if they show the interest and aptitude. I just manage trades, and I've always been able to negotiate myself a raise. Until recently, that was just a commission bump. The real pay raise comes when you transition out of being a laborer and into construction management. I just recently stumbled into a new job where they agreed to pay me exactly what I asked for>What I asked for...90k a year salary, take home truck, gas card, company card for expenses, they pay insurance, match 401k, 5% commission on everything I do with 30% overall operating margin requirement (low as fuck), and 3% of the gross with no margin requirement over 5 million dollars in sales for my division. It's a pretty great deal, and was hard to say no to. I will say it's a lot of fucking work because despite being in business for 35 years and doing 15-20 million per year in business, we are literally starting from scratch on the commerical roofing side (which I run the division). The nice thing is I have carte blanche to basically restructure their entire business process because it's a separate legal entity.
>>2983687I love these guys. It is even better when they write a letter to the CEO about how they can run project 2-17-2026-2759 better so the corporation will do better. God bless them.
>>2984283This is a skill you can peddle independently. Meaning you can ask something like 50/hr or per room, whatever you feel like. Your three consecutive years are worth more than 15 years of jumping jobs.
>>2984603>some 20 year old mexican with 10 years experience working under his dad will poach that promotion you were supposedly earning.Construction companies don't hire children.
>>2983501I took a job at a machine shop, today was my first day. They will take anyone and train them but they start at $15. I have never worked a job like this, I am 40 years old. I "cleaned metal" with an angle grinder for several hours, and did some painting. It was such an uncomfortable, dirty and unsafe job, I quit the same day. I really needed a job, but I passed, because it was simply too hard. I am not strong enough nor fit enough to do physical labor like that. I just pulled a booger out of my nose that is half-black. I am incredibly dirty. I badly need a shower.
>>2983501Get your CDLI used to work in kitchens as a line cook, and eventually a sous chef making fuck all. I also had developed a hell of an alcohol, weed, tobacco, and cocaine addiction after 8 years of hanging tickets. I had to leave that industry before I kms either intentionally or accidentally. My local community college has a CDL program, so I enrolled. It took about 5 months to get to my first day of class, once we started it took about 4 weeks (1 week of class material, about 3 weeks of pre trip inspection and driving practice, then you test out). I got a pell grant which covered most of the cost, I was out of pocket about $800. If you go to a private school it's all on you and they're going to overcharge you by about two grand. Afterwards I was OTR for 6 months driving reefer which really fucking sucked but I was making about $1,200 a week, the catch is you're working 24/7 because even if you're not driving your babysitting the truck. The life is shit, no exercise is shit, not being able to cook decent meals for myself was shit, living in truck stops is shit, sharing the road with Karens and pajeets is shit. I told myself I would never do construction because I thought I was "better than that" like the snobby culinary asshole that I used to be. To make a long story short I applied to some local jobs, one of them being a ready mix cement driver for a large construction company in my area. All of my presuppositions about what I would do with my life went out the window when they offered me $28/hr and 50-60 hours a week. After basically wasting my twenties that was a pretty good deal to gross almost 90k my first year. I don't see myself doing it forever though, I put in for the lineman union apprenticeship through swlcat, of which a CDL is a prerequisite. It's not the sexiest thing in the world but it definitely is a meal ticket, when I started looking I applied to various places on Sunday night and my phone was blowing up Monday morning with offers.
