We are seeing the start of the pushback against the "millennial gray" interior design philosophy thats been so dominant the last 10-15 years. Where do we go next? Do we overcorrect with gaudy colors and loud decor? What are you doing in your house to add personality and make your space look less like a corporate hotel lobby?
>>2984958wood never goes out of styledon't know why you think we're past the grey though
>>2984964People are going to be stripping paint off of knotty pine for generations to come.
>3 pointless questions >not posting in >>2965962a good thread died for this trash
>>2984958people like to point out that the grayness disguises the style clash, like you have a postmodernist gray table and a contemporary silver couch and a pale wood flooring. nobody notices or cares that none of it matches because they all look the same anyway and they're going to be forgotten as soon as you're done looking at them
>>2984964it's not over but people are starting to get mad at it, in about 2-3 years time something will be ready to replace it
>>2984965the funny thing about white walls is that my parents' old house was built in 2008 with white walls and by the time they finally got kicked out by the bank (because they built a house in 2008) the walls were fucked because if you touch a white wall for any reason it leaves a stain behind, and my old bedroom was perhaps one of the worst.meanwhile, my house, built in the early 1910s and remodeled in the 1970s with wood paneled walls, still looks the same as it must've when it was remodeled.it's not real wood paneling, of course, but you can throw things at the wall or knock a chair against it or whatever without leaving smudges everywhere, it's great.
>>2984958>gaudy colors and loud decor? This is already happening yeah. About 50% of my work is domestic calls and I have seen this turn over the past year or so. This is in UK, might take a wee while more for the "live, laugh, love" crowd to catch up but.
>>2984978>if you touch a white wall for any reason it leaves a stain behindThey just used a very shitty paint, or they just primed it and never painted the walls. Indoor/outdoor paint is pretty resilient.
>>2984978Take a shower dirtbag
>>2985031it was probably shitty paint, house wasn't exactly built by the best guys around>>2985036that was probably some of it too I'd go for dizzying amounts of time without a shower as a teenager, but I'm also exaggerating, it's more that if you touched the wall often in one spot (say next to a handrail) it would soon be stained offwhite
>>2984958MCM terracotta tones, dark wood, lava rock, and brass accents. You can even keep the white walls.
I’ve never owned anything I only rent so my options are to cover the plain white walls in posters and never screw anything into the walls. Posters are the vast majority of color, I buy cheap furniture which tends to be boring black/gray/brown/blue/beige
>>2985131classic
>>2984958>Where do we go next? Do we overcorrect with gaudy colors and loud decor?Hopefully
>>2985345memphis design is kino afbut, i feel like we overshot it since the 80s are passe again.if not that, then id like to see some 90s pastels, floral patterns and warm woodgrain make a comeback
>>2985345why do we all got to follow trends? why dont we try to make something original?also is this the only board for looking for interior design inspo?
>>2984978That's on purpose because these remodelliings are originally meant for rental properties, and the landlord can withhold the tenant's security deposit for "destroying the walls" and then pay some Mexican 50$ to throw a fresh coat of paint up when they leave
>>2984958I'm going back to tradition>trim work like boxes, chair rails, coffered ceilings>traditional paint schemes of dark earthy colors balanced by lighter off white trim>natural materials, wood floors, leather furniture etc...>windows that are proportioned, properly placed and have details like divided lites>no plastic building materials>each room is its own, independent from the others
>>2985313>cover the plain white walls in postersThat is horrible. Are you 15?
>>2985376Designers will harp on the green/orange/beige color scheme being too masculine and "boho". I think the colors can still be fun. My issue here is the alter to the machine god. This is cool if you're a recording engineer or filmmaker. Otherwise, I don't feel that electronics deserve 50% of your visual real estate. There are a lot of interesting items and textures we completely ignore here because of two stacks of 50 vcr's.
>>2984958Color was seen as a form of rebellion against corporations during the 70's and 80's, and is unprofessional and the home place is considered a professional environment now since HOAs now exist.Coloring your house wrong is a form of economic terrorism on the housing market. It's essentially the same concept of using freedom of speech to run into a movie threater and scream "Fire" when there is no fire.
>>2986755I'm curious what the hell each one of those is used for. And why the need for dual TVs? I get the impression this guy was watching and recording sports. The amount of gear doesn't make sense to me either. Guy is clearly not a film maker. I'd need to hear more of the backstory.
my house was built in the 70s and had its last major reno in the early 00s and im too cheap and lazy for cosmetic work so i just lean into the comfy grannycore aesthetici never liked that drab grey
>>2986922One area of town has a bunch of houses that were trying to do cutting edge upper middle class things in the 90s. Not all of it is bad, but there's a lot of tech that's unserviceable like programmable light switches with 16 buttons, full home audio systems integrated with doorbell intercom, finished patio deck areas, imposing built in cabinetry. It's all understandable what they were going for, but it's also off-putting how out of touch 90s concepts sit with today both in function and feel of the homes. It would make sense if that picture's gear was from a transition period like tapes, cds, laserdisc, dvd. There's a large rackmount amplifier. Both towers look like touring musician rack units but focused on home entertainment. One can allow more space for their primary hobby, but there's a limit to where it becomes self-serving and uninviting to others. Minimalism is an overcorrection.
>>2984958if i were more handsome and less autistic i could have been living here with a girl i met in high school with 2 kids in a sexless marriage by now damn would have been better than whatever the fuck im doing now
>>2986922There's two tva because you couldn't actually use old rear projection tvs like that during the day or for some programming because it would either r both be too washed out by sunlight or the news khyron or score tracker would burn in
>>2984966Not really, this board is fucking dead. Whatever thread died for this was equally dead.
>>2985376>>2986755>>2986922>>2986943>>2986962Back in the '70s that is how they thought the future would look. Anyone remember Picture-in-Picture tech? It was the answer! All you needed was two sources and you could do PiP on one TV! I literally know of no one that ever used it. Modern TVs and receivers can still do it. Mainly because it is trivial with modern tech, but it has a very specific use case that few people actually use and literally no one ever sets up in advance. The first sets hit the market in the '80s, were obscenely expensive, and generally flopped. When TVs internals went digital the cost dropped and it became standard on most high end sets and even some mid range sets. It still required two separate sources in most cases. When cable got its own box instead of hocking directly to the TV you would see some units that could do PiP in the cable box regardless of what you TV could do. Again though, very limited use cases.
>>2987031everyone i knew used pip to watch the preview channel
>>2984958Beige/brown/green for meBut, I live at the lake, so it is not being rebellious or anything
