>>2987287I'm assuming you are talking about for electronics and not just joining wires together or something like that. Also assuming you are in the USA. If so:Get a decent soldering station. Not a 'gun' or just a 'pencil' iron. You want something with a decent stand, temperature control, interchangeable tips, a detectable iron, and the ability to keep a set temp. You don't want to be in the middle of a tricky bit and have the iron cool off because it can't handle being up at temp 100% of the time.Also get a desoldering pump, some desoldering wick, and a spool of solder. An Engineer SS-03 will cover you for a pump but you can hold off of that until you tire of using wick. Don't get shitty solder. Something like Kester is fine.Solder some wires together. Learn how to spot a cold joint and other issues. Learn how to do a Western Union splice.Buy an old Commodore 64. The model like picture related. Make sure it is "broken/sold as is" but isn't missing anything. Fix it. This is almost certainly going to involve desoldering chips from the board and replacing them with sockets. Shit, just buy 8 RAM chips for it and replace them right off. The RAM in those things is notorious for failing. A full set of 8 4164-150s can be had for as little 16 dollars if you know where to look. By the time you replace them all, they only have 128 pins combined, you will be solid.
