This is my 8 oz ball pein hammer.
It was purchased at harbor freight in a pack of five, which is no longer available.
It's worth about six dollars.

When I picked it up this morning I decided I didn't like the varnish on the handle, so I took it off.

Try burning the varnish off next time. Then oil it real good... Maybe a light sanding or some scotchbrite if you want it all silky smooth.
