Coal is way cheaper than propane for me. I could have a pallet of 1000kg for 800 bucks delivered and forget about it for years.

Unless you have a dedicated blacksmith shop or plan on using the forge outside I would recommend propane just for the cleanliness aspect. If you're forging in a crafty wooden shed then it probably doesn't matter though.
