The Fragrance Groups 101 Chart
The Fragrance Flowchart for Beginners
>>18523442quite easily, it's among the most common frags targeted towards women that men wear.
I like Oud for Glory but I want to try something with more oud and less saffron, and other notes too because to me this just smells like Baccarat with an oud accord. I was about to get Amethyst from Lattafa but apparently it leans feminine.Any suggestions? Cheapies/arabslop if possible, I don't want to spend niche money right now
>>18523443probably. ive never bought a lattafa fragrance but if they make all their shit ahead of time then its already macerated since that process takes place before the product is even sold. its pure cope to think something gets better after you buy it as if it personally waits until you've used it to start smelling better.now if the fragrance is made literal days before its shipped off to you then thats a different story but theres only one clone house i know of that does that and its not arab
>>18523452>theres only one clone house i know of that does that and its not arabwho is it
>>18523454Dua I'm guessing
Can anyone compare AdP Colonia and Eau d'Orange Verte?
What's your favorite Loewe fragrance? I got loewe 7 for myself and the Ibiza cosmic for my mom. The loewe 7 smells amazing and unique but it is unfortunately a bit weak and I can't really smell it most of the time. What other frags from this brand are great? I already tried esencia edt and edp and they both smell nice, wish there was an edp version of the 7
Have you ever bought or sampled a really expensive frag (>300€) that you thought was actually worth the money?
>>18523481>300€not even that expensive for a full bottleeven Nasomatto frags cost more/100ml
>>18523481I mean in price per ML, multiple times
>>18523483And they're not even worth 1/5 of their price.
Tfw you go out in public spaces just to use your cologne because what's the point if you're the only one who smells it at home
>>18523329>>18523444>Reposting since I wasn’t paying attention to the new thread. I’ve been resisting the urge to pick this up recently and think I’ve finally committed to passing on it. It gets a lot of hype and is an interesting take on leather, but I’m fairly certain I would almost always reach for something else over this. Iron Duke when it’s cooler, Fahrenheit if it’s warmer, and that’s only comparing against other leathers. I like the overall profile it’s just not quite enough to be better. This is also ignoring the presumption it’s discontinued.
Got a bottle of Prada Infusion D'Homme. Everything about it is true, clean, soapy, and powdery. I like the neroli at the start which is green and starchy. Soon you start getting the cakey makeup iris, there is something giving me a bubblegum/eraser smell which I can only guess is from the iris and benzoin, not my favorite. I'm starting to think there's something about cedar that makes me think of an elementary school setting, don't know why. Performs very well, I don't get the frankincense directly but you can tell it helps build the background of the fragrance adding a smokiness to the base. I'm going to keep trying it because so far it doesn't suit me. I'm not the ironed shirt, clean cut type, I'm more scruffy and relaxed. Even Mugler Cologne fits me better because it's green and musky.
>>18523481Is there any luxury products that are actually worth the money? You know you're buying it at a premium, that doesn't mean you can enjoy it and you'll have to pay to get the real deal, because fakes and dupes usually don't measure up.
>>18523444Right, c'mon then, what is the best Creed Aventus clone that you can buy in 2025??Not 'inspired by', or 'its own twist on', I want the best 1 to 1 clone. What is it?

It's gonna be an Avignon Autumn (winter, too).
>>185234767 literally smells of nothing to me, I've tested it several times at stores but when they handle me the paper strip I smell nothing, I think the cardboard has a deeper smell than that
>>18523610>no drakkar noirwell I’ll be damned
>>18523582This fragrance makes me genuinely unsettled and angry if I can smell it for too long. Can't really explain. It's obviously a clever and sophisticated fragrance, but there's something about it that really bothers me, maybe the hot flint accord, I don't know.I just find it offensive on a psychological level. No other fragrance ever makes me feel this way, not even fragrances I hate the smell of.
>>18523619That's weird. 7 smells pretty strong from up close. Maybe they watered down the samples or something, I've never experienced this
>>18523631This is how I am with Hugo. I don't know why it just smells so bad, worse than any other fragrance I ever smelled and I don't understand why anyone would wear it. I still have the bottle, it was a gift from my mom so I'm keeping it. I can still smell it sometimes in the wild and flinch

Any nice classic 'orientals' for fall? Something like Pasha or Opium Pour Homme, I'm not sure which are still good today.
>>18523663Why not opt for something less Indian smelling?
>>18523667Anything I wear smells white, especially because I don't spray it 15 times and hit the gym wearing a polo shirt and jeans.
>>18523660Nice classic frag, but Sel D'Issey knocks it out of the park, best freshie I've ever owned.
>>18523670Underspraying is typical Indian whitefacing

>>18523690NTA but come on over spraying is known classless/brown behavior, I always give people shifty eyes when I'm at a restaurant and I get drowned by someone sitting at the next table over showered in perfume. >>18523860it would be a blind buy
>>18523988to me 120 bucks is too muchit's a rather strange frag and I don't know what to compare it to
>>18523947Based on my research while there are some high income Indians most of them see fragrances as aspirational goods. You know how you have a collection of bottles you spent a couple thousand on for shits and giggles as one of your many other hobbies? Not so for Indians, all their collections look the same featuring stuff from that chart. As status symbols they save up for them and being able to buy one is some sort of milestone. While saving up they buy some of the cheaper stuff on the image to tide them over. Clones and decants are quite common to ensure they are completely certain of their purchase. Unlike you or I they can't afford to blind buy or be stuck with something that's not a good value. After all this is less of a hobby for them and more of the one thing that will get them complements and the "old money" aesthetic. If you thought you spent a lot of time deciding on a fragrance imagine if that purchase was completely responsible for your self image and your self worth. Truly fascinating people.
>>18524004It's not so truly fascinating. This is just a good old case of the Nouveau Riche clique wylding. The Chinese and other browns too overcompensate like this.
>>18523988Definitely not then.
>>18524012It's completely different because Indians are more value and recognition oriented, Chinese are exclusivity and price oriented. An Indian will want a designer everyone recognizes and a scent everyone can smell for hours to get girls and validation. The Chinese will want the ridiculously priced limited edition real oud and musk to impress their business partner. I find it interesting because Chinese are more insular and I'm not interested in going to their social media and scouring for info while Indians are right there on Reddit.
>>18524020Fair. The jeets are like other people next to them like Iranians, Arabs when it comes to this at least. Dubai was unbearable with this 'beast mode' nonsense everywhere when it comes to their perfume souq markets. Maybe it's just a brown thing.
>>18523842brown hands typed this
There's only 24 hoursAnd that's not enoughTo lie like you lieor love like you loveSOTD: Valentino Uomo Born in Roma Ivory>>18524020The rich Chinese, yeah. Mainland poor Chinese overcompensate by buying literal counterfeits of anything. There's a reason why designer fragrance counterfeits are very close to the original, they're made in the same factory because China has massive underground counterfeits market
>>18523842this entire thread in a nutshell
>>18524041which fragrances are made in china you dunce.>>18524020chinks are 100% recognition oriented as well, they are also perfectly fine with cheating and faking as long as it gets the desired recognition.
>>18523446It would be good if somebody would update this but with bottles that are actually available to buy
>>18524054yeah but it's too much hasslefeel free to do it if you have the time
>>18524052I have never once in my life smelled perfume coming from a Chinese person living most my life in NYC. The cultural revolution banning perfumes must still affect their culture and how they wear perfume.

>>18524116>LVTom Ford. kekI think it depends on each store though. Some will let you spray the ones from new boxes. Lucky.LV needs some quality control though, people have found counterfeit bottles in the store probably replaced by someone at some point.
>>18524136That's interesting. Sephora here just got a big shipment of tom fords and you can freely magdump even the really expensive ones like Fucking Fabulous.
>>18524136meant for >>18524124
>>18524123My theory is that the "everything is reformulated" shit is just people comparing new bottles to old ones that had time to age and change the scent. Like I saw some YouTuber comparing his 2 boss bottled bottles saying one was a different "spicier" formulation/batch. No man one is just older and probably evaporated that's why it smells more intense
>>18524128>particular casesIt would be impossible to keep track of all the reformulations. Are you going to have a live document like Aventus retards: >https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NoPpK1UBVzc6phitle3eFAEOOSkjqMysfHYWzl3kbKg/edit?pref=2&pli=1&gid=2117459015#gid=2117459015It's a fucking guide, the expectation that it's a live document updated regularly that looks at every reformulation and stock status is insane.
>>18524141>comparing new bottles to old ones that had time to age and change the scentThat is just one of the hundreds of variables that can affect how different bottles smell. Do reformulations happen? Obviously. Is the guy that smelled two random bottles and goes "dude trust me" enough evidence? Doubt.
>>18524095>Strange how?rare note combination>Is it wearable?during autumn>Is it nice? if you like incensy resin with sage on cedar and eukalyptus
>>18524164that sounds like something i would like. what's a good price for it? I rarely see it for sale and the guy won't budge on the price.
>>18524143nobody ever implied that the guide should be a live document, but in the context of "hey, I think the guide is quite outdated" it is absolutely reasonable to point stuff out, worse yet by the time the guide was being finalized half of the discontinued frags were already gone or obviously on the chopping block. You are just an utter moron, retarded midwit that continues to create strawmen to "win arguments" on fucking 4shit of all places, go back to where you belong, there is no awards for your kvetching here.
>>18524074>byredoThat's the Swedish npc middle-class upgrade for women. It's like going from Ikea kitchen knives to Global knives.
>>18524176>the guide is quite outdated>strawmenMost of the stuff in the guide is easy to find and useful, you're the one creating a strawman. Get fucked.
>>18523802It's like DH2020 but sans bergamot and a touch more herbal, the sage and vetiver give me an earthy almost medicinal quality. It's okay, I'd get DH2020 or other Isseys before this one.

>>18522129Perfumanon, on the off chance you should stop back in and see this, I just thought of a great question for you that I’ve wondered about in the past. How much does the color of juice play into a fragrance as a whole?Eg, do customers ever reject briefs because a juice is too dark? (If you get feedback) Or as part of your training/education do they say to avoid anything beyond ‘X’ opacity or w/e. Weather is cooling down so I can finally start breaking out some of the more rich, and typically darker frags, but several of them can be non-options if I’m wearing a white shirt to work. >SOTD: The Most Wanted Parfum
>>18524202That's not the perfumer anon. Different writing style.
>>18523610Jesus fucking Christ
>>18524202not perfumer but look on the ingredients and if you see dyes in the list you can assume that the colour is just part of the marketing. When I was researching vintages before buying my mitsouko extrait there was some people saying that juice can darken with age and that with vintages darker is better but that seems to be all unsubstantiated fuddlore.
>>18523610What's wrong with this list? Fragrantica's top is fairly similar. Of course if you ask a lot of people about their favorite fragrances they'll tend to choose safe, mass-appealing options.
>>18524214Nothing. People just like making fun of Indians and calling other people Indian when they disagree with them.
Anyone try the new Essential Parfums Iris?
>>18524186>>18524176I'm the anon who suggested an update is in order. Didn't mean to start a flamewar, just genuinely trying to get into scents and frustrated. You would never expect a beginners flowchart for film to consist of obscure stuff that only screened at festivals in Asia, or a chart for beginner car enthusiasts to have a bunch of custom kit cars that require proprietary tools or whatever. Or is it common for scents to have limited runs and then be gone forever like how it is with designer clothes? If so, it would be helpful to notated that on the chart.

>>18524230>is it common for scents to have limited runs and then be gone foreverEverything good gets discontinued and what doesn't get discontinued gets reformulated to hell. Most stuff can be found on ebay but you will have to pay the price if it was something rare or desirable.

>>18524401Then you’ll probably want to look for a bottle from the early 90s. They still used real civet and oakmoss then as well as other ingredients that were banned or restricted. If you want more animalic you’ll have to look for true vintage and prepare your wallet accordingly.
>>18524430>They still used real civet

>>18524430Kouros never used real civet
>>18524450They're all very different so it will depend on your taste, but I liked Civet and Snowy Owl the most
>>18524462>caring what retard normies thinkalso nobody spoke to you about your fragrance, good or bad. Cool story though.
Bought this shitter since tester bottles are cheap. Pretty nice, nothing really special though. Bergamont, ambrox, and very clean vetiver. Worth the $50 IMO.
>>18524450best perfumery? probably civet or the old mothmost accurate projection of the animal? bee no questions asked, it's beautiful honey and wax scent. as for my recommendations? rhino, bee, squid. Also sample camel and hyrax, it's crazy that the same formulations of hyrax can smell like an outhouse portapotty on some people, and on others it's sweet earthy, ambery leather scent.

Do you think there's a chance that Amouage will bring back into production some of Christopher Chong's era releases like Myths Man and Figment Man?
>>18524517luckily, no
>>18524528Why luckily? What are your favourite Amouages then?
>>18524462This is going to shock you but all those people are wrong. Do you trust their tastes in music, shows, and movies? Why would you trust their tastes in fragrances? Older stuff is just unironically better.
>>18524476>caring what autistic, lifelong bullying victim contrarians on 4chan thinkthis is somehow even more sad than caring what normies think
the thinking man's option is only caring about what women think
>>18524545women don't think
>>18524462When a woman says that she likes your fragrance, she doesn't necessarily mean that she likes it on you. She likes it as in she would wear it herself. Very important distinction to consider. If you want to wear something that 99% of women will like, wear something that is unapologetically masculine and lavender-forward. They figured all this shit out back in the 70s and 80s. Lavender makes people feel safe. If you know women then you know they love to feel safe.
Got money to blow. What should I get?
>>18524450Koala is best but camel is very nice to.Get your nose in t Rex though
>>18523578Bought it because of the Noel bodybuilder influencer guy. It is alright, smells like Baja Fresh/fish tacos to me.
Just bought this. The smell is much better and stronger than Brut. I don't think jeets will wear this. Who fougere master race here?
>>18524602I have this too, both the oil and spray version. It's nuclear. Smells like Lapidus PH to me. The cap is ass tho, gets worn out after some time.

>>18524517You're telling me Figment Man is discontinued?
>>18524218Yes. I already knew I disliked iris prior to sniffing it and I continue to dislike it after sniffing it.
>>18524287If you were to get down to the technical nitty gritty, yes, there are only a finite number of permutations and ingredient combinations that can be made, but the number is so large as to be imperceptible. On top of that there are new fragrance materials (aroma chemicals) being discovered/created intermittently which shake up the landscape to varying degrees. Akigala wood is still in a bit of a hype phase right now, Calone was during the 90’s. The weird thing to keep in mind about scent perception is it’s never just about a smell being present or absent. The way we smell things changes based on the concentration of the ingredients. The easiest example is Gentle Fluidity by MFK, there’s a gold version and a silver version. Both fragrances use the exact same ingredients, but in different concentrations and smell very different. So in short, there are near infinite fragrances that can be created. There isn’t much in the way of perennials trends, but there are however waves of things that are popular. You can go way, way back looking for trends, but the 80’s tended to be overtly masculine and powerful. 90’s were leaning towards blue aquatics and clean. 00’s continued this trend. 10’s started towards the “post blue” movement and sweet gourmands continue to gain traction. Ouds took over for a while there, I don’t remember when exactly. They’ve died down a little but are likely to never fully go away now that they’ve engrained. We’re still pretty set in the middle of the Ethol Maltol era of sweet fragrances atm and a lot of people are waiting to see what the “Next new thing” will be.
>>18524330Pineward is releasing Tome September 1st, go check it out. (Not a cologne though, prob parfum concentration)“It’s moody. It’s warm. It’s complex. It smells like ink on old paper, worn leather, cool skin, and late-night thoughts.Or, as a Pineward customer once eloquently said, “Exactly what an old world, young professor on [an] expedition tent would smell like in the early morning.”Notes:Parchment (nagarmotha), sandalwood, leather, cedar, Jade 403 (binding glue), vintage book (furfural, vanillin, benzaldehyde), orris root, black tea, coffee, ambrette, tobacco.”You could also consider Cœur de Noir by Beaufort London.
>>18524430>>18524432>>18524470Cinarome animalis, never real civet. >>18524450I’ve been curious about Man-O-War myself, but been waiting for their next release because I hate paying shipping for a single 2ml sample. Also, >>18524474 is correct, their fragrances run the entire line from sweet gourmands in Bee to a shitty pissy scent in Hyrax. If you can afford to drop the cash buy their full sample set or one of the smaller mixes. Ignore the people who shit on them, I won’t claim every fragrance is a hit, but they’re certainly interesting. My personal favorite is Penguin, mossy leather base with a cool airy top feel, but Civet and Musk Deer are good, I didn’t care for Snowy Owl. I actually can’t stand Bee even though it’s one of their best rated, it smells sweet the same way artificial sweeteners taste “sweet”. Squid is somewhat unique, Hyrax is one of the few fragrances that uses Hyraceum. And T-Rex is famous for almost always being in the top 5-10 for loudest, most bombastic fragrances, I quite like it myself but would never own more than a travel spray at a time of it.

>>18524641>people are waiting to see what the “Next new thing” will be.I'd expect the aquatic blue fragrances to develop into more light, airy, transparent and modern. H24 and Bois imperial type of scents, but something that actually smell nice and mass appealing. With the trending interest in fragrances and explosion in niche brands, there's also much more competition and there's more diversification in what people like and can choose from. Same as with fashion and music. So is there going to be a new bdc or sauvage in the foreseeable future that dominates the market?
>>18524620That's my 22 year old girlfriend you freak
>>18524629It's not on Amouage's website, so yeah. Fate Man and Imitation Man are also discontinued.

It's got a Christmas tree vibe going on but personally I like frankincense more as a perfume note, not so much for myrrh.
>>18524786>Are all women ugly without makeup?mostlywhen they are young and their skin isn't yet ruined by make up they can be attractivebut then they wear more and more make up ruining their skin which they then have to hide behind more make up and then it's over for thembut if any woman wants to break from the make up world she's gonna put herself at a disadvantage attractivness wise since decent make up can easily give a woman +1 or even +2 of facial attractivness
>>18524556You are retarded, and if you had any experience with women you would realize that, which proves that you're also an incel.Women are attracted to raw masculinity, not the performative one - wearing a perfume never makes you more masculine to a woman by itself, even if it smells like cigarettes and mold. Just as an anecdote, my gf says she loves a bunch of fresh floral fragrances on me that are not what was considered masculine in the 70s and 80s (which is what your idea of masculine is), and also routinely sniffs my neck, armpits and crotch and says she loves that as well, and that's not because she imagines herself smelling like that.

Ambroxan is genuinely disgusting yet so ubiquitous in modern mens perfumery. I refuse to wear anything with ambroxan in the dry down.IFRA are to blame for it's proliferation by restricting all the natural fixatives.

>>18524556Fragrance reviewers asking girls on the street if smells good and then if it would smell good on a guy, then they have to think about it.Women typically don't consciously know what they like. They conjure up an image of something based on the emotions they feel subconsciously. That's why they tend to have these idealized images of a man. "This smells like a clean fit man fresh out of the shower with a white tshirt" or "this smells like a mature mysterious wealthy man in a dark suit who knows what he wants" or the badboy in a leather jacket. It's their idealized idea of a man.You don't hear a man talk like that "this fragrance smells like a sexy girl straight out the shower with a clean white tshirt and her life in order".
>>18523481I think they were all slightly sub 300 but I’ve bought a few MDCI perfumes that were all worth it (Invasion Barbare, Chypre Palatin and Cuir Garamente). Oud wood and Tuscan Leather were worth it too imo
>>18524815What does ambroxan even smell like
Why do people say this is a "blue" fragrance? Because the bottle is blue? Because there really isn't anything else blue about it
Does anyone get immediately tired of scents? I can't wear even my favorite scents more than once or twice in a few days before I get sick of them.

Hello smell thread.I tried this the other day and it lasted 13+ hours on me. I like the idea of a vanilla scent, but is it appropriate for a man to smell like something so sweet? >>18524871Love the original Habit Rouge, don't care for any of the flankers. It's a gorgeous fizzy citrus, drying down to a sweet woody rose. But it's not versatile at all. I have to be really in the mood to wear it.
