while i pretty much agree with everything you said, for me it's always been the JM Weston 180 loafer. I have lusted after that one for ages, but the sizing has scared me out of getting one and the price just keeps getting higher and higher
ideally I will have the JM Weston and the Alden, but until then my perfectly fine Cheaney loafers will have to suffice

I went to an Ivy for grad school and the average zoomer there is wearing joggers, sweatpants and hoodies and sneakers. The Asians (50% of the student body) are the nicest dressers and it's usually super expensive luxury brands since the ones attending are all rich as fuck
The jeets dressed the worst, obviously. I had a guy in my program who wore the same dirty suit every single day because it's all he owned. He had really bad B.O.

has anyone who posts here been on an ivy campus recently? i get that the term is referring to a style and a tradition but it's kind of depressing. not only do the vast, vast majority not dress anything like this, there's hardly anything distinct about the way they do dress.
>>
>>18530364
Do you think an ivy campus is somehow different from another European university? France also lost its specific fashion style, Italy also lost its specific fashion style, Germany also lost its specific fashion style, Portugal also lost its specific fashion style, although the situation in all these countries' universities is probably a little less desperate than in Great Britain. The only bastions left, still resisting, are Scandinavian countries and possibly Russia.

tab collars are nice, and imo, underrated as shirts to pair with bow ties together. sure, the tab doesn't serve its purpose of raising the tie knot, but it does keep the collar leaves from spreading too much, and it gives the collar as a whole a bit of structure and "lift" that keeps it from drooping if its a bit loose on the neck

I have one of their harrington jackets second-hand. The one what doesn't have the logo embroidered on the front that they're selling now.

It's cheap but decent. It has most of the original harrington details:
- raglan sleeve
- cape/vent (the vent is non-functional - you can't see the tartan lining if you lift up the cape)
- angled pockets
- some off-brand tartan lining
- mine's body is 100% cotton rather than the Baracuta 60/40 polycotton
- doesn't have waist adjustment
- doesn't have double zipper

I also have a second harrington from their Plectrum line from ~2012 and it's more premium for sure. Has a functional vent for example.

Not saying that they are good or bad but you all need to get in the current year and grow up. The country of origin is really irrelevant when it comes to quality of a garment and doesn’t tell you much at all. There are a tremendous amount of good textiles which are produced in that part of the world.

As far as I am aware, yes, their coats are done entirely by machine, but I cannot say nor prove for certain. From a durability standpoint I would put them above most other modern menswear brands, ergo, durable (can be thrown around in suitcases, and even if worn constantly the stitching won't come undone for years), but easy to squander if not properly cared for. They're certainly not the type of jacket I would associate with English country style or hunting jackets, which you might consider. Nonetheless, the tweed jacket I had from them was thick, well constructed, and could stand up to many years of wear. Just couldn't incorporate the particular pattern into my wardrobe at the end of the day. I also wouldn't consider their shoulders to be "natural," there's more padding than I care for. All this said, coats from decades past always seem "tougher" to me and more durable.

I always recommend O'connell's over all other modern ivy-esq brands, true soft shoulders, superior tailoring, and proportions suitable to more gracile individuals such as myself. The tweed coat I have from them now I feel could stand up to more than the j press coat, but I think the tweed comes from the same mill so it's probably just personal bias. You might look to Cordings UK or other hunting-style coats if you want something that will really stand up to the elements and constant rough activity. If you want something that will stand for many years to come, then save for however long, and spend the money on a superior product. It will also give you time to really consider what exactly you want and how you will incorporate it within your wardrobe.
>>
>>18538138
Consider that that coat is best suited for fall/winter conditions and styling, maybe early spring. Defiantly a no-go for weather that's sunny or 70+ degrees F. If you're not fat then don't wear pleated trousers, just doesn't look flattering on normal sized bodies imo. Earth tones will be your best friend for matching. A white dress shirt would fair well with this coat, maybe light blue too. If you get brown shoes, opt for a darker shade of brown. Also, corduroy coats are usually associated with middle-aged and older folks (at least here in the states), if you look mature you might be able to pull it off but I wouldn't really recommend a corduroy coat to anyone under the age of ~35 unless your a chad, in which case you can wear basically anything and look good.

oh

the polo problem is that if you wear it tucked you look like a wagie employee
and if you wear it untucked you look sloppy

the problem is fixed by wearing a quality polo that fits you as well as at least mid rise trousers that also fit you
if you then tuck your polo (as you should) you will look good

for shorts it's usually untucked but the length of the polo has to be good

Never been a fan of ecru, just looks like the walls in a smoker's apartment to me. Pink is cool, you can also look for a red uni stripe which is similar but a bit less in your face. Chambray is also a nice and versatile option to have, Ralph Lauren and J Crew have made tons of them.

Hello all. An uncle recently passed away, and I've been helping to go through his stuff. Among his old clothes I found what purports to be a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt. Do you think this looks real? He wasn't one for fashion or spending money (none of his other shirts are from good brands), so it seems most likely he picked up a fake somewhere, but it feels surprisingly good quality. I don't wear RL so don't have much of a reference point as to how wonky the horse does or doesn't look. It does look worse than most on google but my eyes are no good.
