what is the loose / classic fit on levi's? is it the 505? I think I'd like a bit less slim
>>
>>18526967
Yes, but if you buy a 1950s 501 cut it will also fit more relaxed

I always had trouble with slim jeans (in this case is super skinny) because when I started hitting the gym, by some weird reason I loved to do quads exercise, and now I have this weird shape around my quads (of course not in the same level of picrel, but is overdeveloped in comparison to my entire body)

what jeans should I look for?
>>
>>18526920
'member when 9oz was considered heavy weight? Yeah.... Where did we go wrong? How did we become such roidheads?

Just depends on your budget. I also have thicker quads from the gym and I fit nicely into:
>Warehouse 1001xx 1953
>TCB 50s
>Wrangler 13MWZ
>Fullcount 0105 (pic related)

Most of those are jap made 501 repros with the exception of the Wranglers, so they will range in price from $180-300. Wranglers are the more budget pair with a slightly more slim cut, but they generally look really fucking good on dudes with athletic builds and their relative value is basically unmatched. If you want a pair of jap made 501 repros, the better value pair is the TCB 50s which are around $180 last time I checked. If you want the absolute widest and most comfortable out of all those, the Fullcount 0105 is the one. In my opinion, the absolute best looking, most well rounded cut are the Warehouse 1001xx 1953. They also make a pair of 1001xx that replicate a pair of 1947 repros, but the 1953 version is slightly more relaxed. Beside all of these, I've heard great things about the Left Field Smokestacks.

>>
>>18526982
Obviously, OBVIOUSLY you have to wear Dries Van Noten type ultra high-rise, ultra- baggy fits since they will fit you like straight legs.
>>
>>18526967
The original 505 from 1967 was a slimmer version of the 501 with a zip fly. During the 80s and 90s the rise got a bit higher and the overal cut a bit roomier.
The 551 model is also a somewhat loose cut, also introduced in the 60s.
But if you just want a classic jean that fits roomier than the 501 you can try the '54 501. Basically a 501 with wider legs and seat while the waist is about the same.

>>18526982
If you want a slim cut, most brands carry a variation of the athletic fit, which is a tapered cut but wider in the legs and seat. Levis has the 541 model.

How bad is 1% elasthane on jeans? I've got these '93 501s 99% cotton and 1% elasthane which I like a lot. But I've heard elasthane jeans age poorly.
>>
>>18527289
1 percent won’t mess with the durability of the jeans much. I personally prefer jeans with a 1-2 percent synthetic blend since it gives the jeans a bit of stretch.

>>
>>18527289
I would guess it only helps with durability, less repetitive stress.

Somehow I prefer pure cotton because it feels more like you're wearing something substantial, but in reality having elasticity is clearly a boon.
>>
>>18527824
To me the draw toward denim is all the imperfections and character. A well worn in pair of cotton selvedge denim is going to look and feel way better than some mall slop elastane jeans. Apart from the cut, the imperfections in the weave and the eventual blowouts in the knees are what make a pair of selvedge jeans look great. To a certain extent, I’d argue that distressed clothing even outside of denim generally looks better. I only care about “durability” to a certain degree. Then again, I’m not working some job on a concrete crew where I subject my clothing to massive amounts of daily stress.

How dark do you guys like your denim? I bought this pair the other day and I really like the dark indigo color on them. Some like lighter washes, but I want to make the dark wash lighter myself over time.
>>
>>18527824
It's not a boon. Most of the times they elastane will just blow out after a few washes and stretch the whole pants by a size or two. My size 30 jeans with 2% spandex fit more like 32 now.
>>
>>18526920
Jeans are starting to fade. Fucks sake, hate this shit. Looks like something an Indian would wear.
>>
>>18527919
Depends on the season I guess.
But that usually is the best colour denim.
>>
If I could find a pair of jeans that'd fit me like Ed Chigliak's I'd happily throw all my other jeans away. Of course Darren E. Burrows has chadlike proportions.
What's the best fitting jeans you've ever had?
>>
What is anon's opinion on thick denim jeans for winter time? Do they look funny with their structured shape?
>>
>>18528460
His look like a relatively more slim variation of the 501 with some taper. I would check out Freewheelers 1951 or the TCB 50s
>>
>>18527853
>Apart from the cut
this is where im fucked. the 511s suit my slim silhouette but the last pair i bought was 70% cotton, 28% lyocel and 2% elastine. can i get 100% 501s? yeah. but in my case:
fit/silhouette/what looks best > material. what good are the 100% jap selvedge cotton if i look like a clown?
>>
>>18528588
What jap raws did you wear? They didn’t fit you well assuming because they were too relaxed or the seat was too large?
>>
>>18528520
My problem is that I have big thighs and ass, so most straight jeans tend to have too much fabric from the knee down. The tapered cuts have too much taper and make my legs look completely unbalanced, very top heavy.
>>
>>18526967

>>
>>18528950
Go for Fullcount 0105 or Black Sign Vocalion jeans. They have very large top blocks with not much taper

I’m 6’1 and my perfect cuff is a single 1.75” - 2” cuff, it’s just what worked with me. There’s not really a one size fits all approach to cuffing since the thickness of the cuff should look balanced in relation to your overall height and proportions. However, you should not triple cuff and I think if you want to double cuff it should be absolutely no bigger than 2” thick. It also looks goofy if the bottom of your cuff/hem is resting above your ankles, totally unnatural way to wear your pants. My gauge of where to rest the bottom of my cuff is based off of the position of my cuff in relation to the star symbol on the interior ankle of a pair of high top chucks. If the bottom of my cuff is resting halfway up that symbol or higher, the cuff is too high and looks tryhard and unnatural. This is why I generally like to have a tiny break/stack on top of my footwear, it looks and feels better to me
>>
>>18526932

Dark indigo is the best color in the world and it is a shame that jeans are designed to loose exactly that feature. We have the means to create everlasting indigo denim, but they keep pushing that shitty muh fadez narrative for NPCs. “It’S like A wOrK oF ArT dudE xD”. Not really, you just lost the only thing that made your jeans interesting and not reddit: their color.
>>
>>18529525
>>18529650
I love the look and feel of a dark, crisp indigo, rigid new pair of jeans. However I also love how they change and mold with use.
It's kind of a trap, really, to get you to buy new jeans every so often.
I enjoy the process and don't speedrun the fading. Also I got too many pairs to commit to just one for a thousand wears.

I got them in January and have had different periods where I wear them more frequently. Been cycling between these, some Iron Heart 1955s, and Real McCoys Lot 001xx. I’ve been pretty committed to them the last couple weeks, and whenever I do wear them it’s usually like 1.5-2 weeks at a time. 4 washes so far.
After some good time with them, I actually think Freewheelers is arguably the absolute best repro 501 company. The overwhelming majority of repros are not much different from one another in terms of “quality” or “durability”, so you usually end up just going with whichever cuts fit you best. Freewheelers on the other hand not only have 10/10 cuts, but they also have an actual tangible increase in durability due to the thicker density of stitching, and the construction of these are literally flawless with what is definitely the cleanest stitch work ive ever seen. All their hardware and details are just a step above everyone else in quality too. Their leather patch uses an actual dense, sturdy piece of veg tan and the ink is not volatile at all, it’s like it got embedded into the fibers of the leather.
>>
>>18529798

Well, I consider the IH1955 to be a completely different category than the FWs. One is more of an accurate repro with 14 oz, the other is heavyweight with cut modifications. If I had to choose between the two, I’d probably have to go with the FW because:
>Superior cut without any gay ass millennial taper
>Denim is more interesting, slightly more texture
>The combination of the regular weight and timeless cut makes it way easier to style
>>
went back in my camera roll and saw pictures of my fresh century denim and got sad

Use spirolactone. Spirolactone is a diuretic which, in large doses, inhibits DHT.
It is regularly prescribed as an anti-estrogen for female to male HRT, and thus, comes with an astronomically lower risk of sexual side effects in men.

>>18532725
As far as I know all lvc will shrink a bit after the first wash. Sometimes a whole size. Probably a good idea to size up. The 1954 are a bit roomier than the standard 501, ask for meassures if you can. If they're 2cm or so bigger in the waist than your best fitting jeans, you should be good after the wash.
>>
>>18529550

>>
>>18532725
Not sure about LVC, but 1953-1955 are hands down the best years for the 501. Slightly boxier fit compared to the 1947 which ends up being more comfortable

I'm poor, and I thrift Levi's almost exclusively, -- and only when the wash & material are really decent(dark blue, grey, etc.),
-- and the only pairs I find that are decent are 510s.
Although I go in desiring 501s, I find I am slowly being pussywhipped into liking skinny jeans. -- I am skinny and even have a thigh-gap(I'm a guy),
-- but I doubt women comprehend that I'm not a faggot.
I actually love my Levi's skinnies!

I consider skinnies more rockstar than americana. I don't hate slim fits, just the low waist aggressive millennial taper. I don't think most guys (myself included) should wear skinny or slim fits at all. I wish I had long slender legs instead of tgese stubby boulders, but even before I touched a weight for the first time I've always had masdive quads. To the point tgat people used to ask me if I was a soccer player.

Even workers in 3rd world countries wear jeans because they're cheap and durable. Levi's and Japanese selvedge autism denim brands aren't the only brands in the world. There are 1000s of brands across the world that produce cheap as fuck denim.

Any alternative to the Levi’s 513? The only jean cut that I get compliments on and I’ve tried a lot of different Levi’s. Would like something in raw denim or just an alternative brand to mix it up. It gives me a really nice shape. Slim in the thighs and just enough room in the calves to not be a skinny jean. 200% never owned a pair of jeans like these before.
>>
>>18535561
They're still much more durable than any slacks. I think he was confusing work pants with slacks.
>>

Thoughts on wearing wide leg jeans with no break at all?
>>
>>18535863
As long as they aren't women's baggy jeans that faggot zoomers wear these days. And never go wider than loose fit.
>>
>>18535870
Also, don't sag them. Wear them at your proper hips or waist (if they're mid or high rise respectively) to get the proper look. And wear your correct waist size. Don't size down and sag them like a fatty or a homosexual.
>>
>>18535870
>>18535874
And still the same thoughts without a cuff too? I have some non-selvedge which I won't cuff with a 19" opening and they hang perfectly smoothly without a break at all since my thighs fill out the top pretty well, sometimes it feels like they could almost be too short but they're literally just kissing the top of my foot which is the perfect inseam I guess

Denim and indigo dye are antibacterial so they are good at keeping smells at bay. I hang my jeans to air between wears and they rarely smell. However, the going months without washing is for when ypu want high contrast fades. If you don't care about them, you just wash when you feel they need it.

Anybody here got experience with brands like Bronson or Red Tornado?

I bought 3 pairs of their Tubular Athletic T-Shirts, and the weight and quality are fantastic for the price.

I've been looking at their other offerings, particularly these 15oz jeans. They are about 70 dollars.
>>
>>18541239
I got a pair of Red Tornado 55501 which are supposed to be a repro of the 501 from 1955. How accurate of a repro I don't know.
They're high rise with a top block that's just roomy enough and a straight cut with wide enough thigh for gymbros.
The denim is really good and the construction, details and finishing flawless.
Got them for fiftysomething shipped on black friday. Definitively they punch above their weight. Not as good as jap top brands but I haven't seen anything that can compare at that price or even above.
Would recommend.

>max budget $300-$350
>Not Levi’s 501 STF
The only raw denim I ever bought were Levi’s 501 STF and although it’s iconic it’s more straight cut than “slim straight” and doesnt look great on my body. Thanks for any genuine reply’s and not trolling

Check out Fullcount 1108. I can't wear slim cuts because I do squats, but I own their wide cut and the denim is absolute peak. Immediately comfortable, and the zimbabwean cotton softens up unlike anything else. You will get very vibrant vintage fades if thats what you're into
>>
>>18527242
Makes you think that the inflation data is off. 8oz denim sounds awesome by the way. I was looking for light denim this summer but couldn’t find anything. My 12oz sugarcanes were good enough. Any reason to consider 21oz for winter? I have 17oz samurais that seem thick.
>>
>>18529650
Agreed. I’ve been considering buying some Hank dyed jeans but they’re so expensive.
>>
>>18541296
I’ve been considering buying their green jeans for a while now. I really want ones from samurai but can’t find them used.
>>
>>18541413
Nice but I really don’t want to skip the break in process. Honestly wouldn’t mind trying a heavier denim in slim straight. Really want the full experience and a unique set of jeans out of my basic rotation. Any good online denim stores easy to browse a wide variety of brands?

>>
So what's the perfect inseam? For non-cuffers. Barely not touching the floor at the heels when not wearing shoes/boots?
>>
>>18541795
I don't think meassuring the inseam without shoes is a good way tp do it. I rather try the jeans with the shoes, or type of shoes, I plan to wear them the most.
For me, I prefer jeans with some break at the shortest, but usually like a bit of stacking. At the longest the first three eyelets of the shoes should be visible and at no point the jeans should drag or go bellow the back side of the welt.
>>
>>18541766
I have momotaro jeans which use long staple cotton. Also a nice product. I wouldn’t say superior, just different.

Don’t get the asphalt denim. Way too much texture, looks ridiculous. Their 20 oz Secret Denim is much more balanced
>>
>>18541959
The 15oz Crushed Concrete denim is good too, a bit less rough than the Asphalts.
>>
>>18541964
Yeah it’s more balanced. In my opinion, having the most textured heavy denim is not really a good use of $300-400. It’s going to feel like shit, look fucking retarded, and be nearly impossible to pair competently in any outfit without looking too out of place. I got into raw selvedge 5 years ago and started with the heavy weight stuff. After a few years, I realized that although there a couple pairs of heavy weights I like, 9 times out of 10 nothing beats a normal pair of 13-15 oz 501 repros. The cut will look the best, the denim looks beautiful and balanced without being too textured, and it will be the most comfortable. I’ve had a few of my friends get into selvedge and when they asked me what to look for, I told them this same thing. One of them went straight into the heavy weight denim and then followed up with buying a normal 501 repro and realized that I was right. If you need a heavyweight pair of jeans, the amount of pairs out there that don’t look absolutely retarded is pretty small because there are too many ways it can go wrong, especially with how tight the weave can be and how textured they are. My list of absolute peak heavyweight denim is:
>Iron Heart 21 oz and 18 oz
>Samurai 21 oz
>Oni 20 oz Secret Denim

All of those are relatively loose weave with a manageable level of texture, making them actually comfortable and easy wearing while also allowing you to get pretty nice vintage fades instead of being designed solely for nothing else but high contrast fades

Good insight. I have my 17oz zero denim from samurai that has interesting texture without looking absurd. Then my sugarcanes 12oz are light and smooth. I was considering samurai 21oz. I live in the northeast so it gets cold, but I keep my house hot with my wood stove. Really I want something hank dyed. I was also considering oni kase denim as an imitation hank dye using rope dying.
>>
>>18541989
I cannot recommend samurai’s 21 oz enough. It’s not nearly as slubby as the 17 oz, and it’s really easy wearing right off the bat. Their cuts are also unmatched, check out the s510xx. It was technically the very first pair of 21 oz jeans ever made

Soso? I have the jacket and the jeans. The pants are a bit much but they still see a lot of use in the winter. The jacket is great as long as you sized it properly, looking forward to the cooler weather to break it out again.

>>18542001
Yes. I will genuinely be using the jacket as workwear. The pants they lack the utility pockets I need with a pair of work pants: left side cargo pocket, right side pocket for a folding ruler, small pockets for pens, etc.

It should arrive just in time for the cold weather.

Question for the workwear niggas in this thread - why do you guys wear this shit so autistically and in such a performative old-school masculine way?

It seems that as soon as you get into workwear as a hobby, you think that the most playful thing you can get away with is a funny design on a label, a reference to an old graphic on the back of a t-shirt or a hat that's a color besides brown/navy/black.

How were you introduced to workwear?

My father owns a business related to construction, sometimes helped out employees on-site. He and them would introduce me to modern workwear as well as some heritage american brands and watches. He would also introduce me to heritage(?) fashion in our region like thai amulets, indonesian batiks, chinese cloth shoes, tibetan agate, etc.
>>
>>18543750
Grew up in an industrial area. About 90% of men wore plaid shirts and jeans. Then grunge came and flannels and jeans were the craze among teens. In the 00s I learned about raw denim and heritage boots through the internet. Not an intetesting story but there you go.
>>
Washed a pair of jeans and they shrank noticeably. Weird, considering this was like the third wash and they hadn't shrunk so far. Wearing them right now hoping they'll stretch back because they're one of my fav pairs. And yes, I washed them exactly as I always do.
>>
I really like the fit of the 501 '93 but they are 2% elasthane. Any similar cut in 100% cotton? Other than scouring ebay for 90s 501s.
>>
>>18543890
>I really like the fit of the 501 '93 but they are 2% elasthane.

Maybe the ones you found. There are versions that are all cotton, I have them in black. I would suspect that also the cut is slightly different because Levi's is fully inconsistent between years and factories.
I don't have suggestions for similar ones, don't you have a big retailer where you can order 10 pairs to try and return them for free?

>>
>>18545921
>Should I be focusing more on oz or weave density
bit of both. weight is probably the biggest factor but 2x1 shirting twills are going to breathe a lot better than a 3x1 twill equivalent. loose weaves will breathe better than tight weaves.

anything military surplus/repro will fit your needs. they tend to be light weight and looser fitting. i like these:
https://misterfreedom.com/products/raiders-fatigues-2x1-army-denim
you can also get stuff that would fit the bill from real mccoy's or even bronson mfg on a budget.

He seems fine to me. You seem obsessed. Anyway… what are thoughts on cords? I’ve always liked then and have worn them since the 90s. But want to get a nice pair.
>>
>>18546280
cords are underrated. i love the look of them especially a pleated wider fit. as a fabric its very very abrasion resistant but tears kind of easily, and its one of the easiest workwear fabrics to dress up. chocolate brown and forest green are the best colors imo. khaki and copper type colors are solid though.

I love cords for fall and winter. They're warm, flexible, lightweight and about as versatile as jeans if not more.
>>
>>18546058
>>18546050
Thanks, guys. It looks like people have different experiences/results. I'll try washing them per the instructions, and if I don't like the fit, I'll just order another pair/size (since they are so cheap).

The anon who got a lot of shrinkage washed them in a way maximizes it. I wash my jeans in a way that tries to minimize it, namely:
-Wash in delicate cycle at 30°C tops
-Inside out with a dark colors detergent to preserve color (unrelated to shrinkage)
-Hang dry streteching the jeans to prevent wrinkles.
-(optional) a short tumble cycle to remove excess water. This step will produce more shrinkage, skip if your jeans fit on the tighter side.
As a side note, I've got a frontloader washing machine which might be more gentle on the clothes than toploaders.

Front loaders are worse on clothes. They literally tumble and throw them around the entire time while barely using any water. Top loaders are much more gentle (as long as they don't have that rod at the center) because they submerge the clothes in a pool of water that holds them up. Even while drying they don't throw the clothes around but press them against the tub's wall and use centrifugal force to press water out of them.

Do the math retard. Anon isn’t getting a girlfriend for at least another 10 years. Maybe he’ll be married in 15 years. MAYBE. By then, if he still has the jacket it was a good buy. >>18546791

this.
if you follow what the tags say its going to shrink a lot.
do what this anon said and they will shrink much less.
>As a side note, I've got a frontloader washing machine which might be more gentle on the clothes than toploaders.
same also using a front loader.
it is indeed relevant because they use a lot less water.

Do poplin shirts clash too much with an outfit that's mostly workwear otherwise? I just realized how much I prefer poplin over everything else.

Would look better with khaki colored jeans or chinos

red tornado's wrangler repro stuff is better than the japanese stuff because edwin's the only brand that can legally make wrangler in japan and their wrangler line's sorta mids.

>>18547009
round house too. great value and a lot of actual heritage.

That is WAY too much contrast stitching. So much of that is just completely unnecessary
>>
>>18547541

>>
>>18547554
Love me contrast stitching on denim jackets. That being said, could do without it on the D panels around the handwarmer pockets.

>carefully select a garment for months among several options and makers
>garment turns out to be OK but not what it was hyped to be
>end up wearing it sparingly
>pick up something that caught my eye off the rack and that's on sale
>turns out to be great and wear it on an almost daily basis
>becomes one of my favorite things to wear
Is it all just a game of expectations?

I would argue that fashion is inherently autistic. But I'd leave it at taking your time to carefully consider a big purchase is the way to go.

its a bit loud when the jacket is new but they chill out once it lightens up.

>>18547566
some of the vintage 24mjz's don't have the stitching around the D panel. i think the later model ones from the late 70s are like that.

>>18547703
fair fair. denim's fine to wear without a belt, it just pushes things even further towards casual when you do.

i see a lot of the vintage ones without stitching around the D panel. can't tell if the stitches just fell out on some of them and aren't important to the structure of the jacket, or if they made a version without it. you might just be able to remove them.
some 24mjz's also have elastic at the waist while others have buttons.
