Where would Sultan Vetiver fit in this?
Herbal? Woody? Grass?

Has anyone here smelled straight agarwood oil? I just found some and I’m kind of tempted to get it. I don’t know what I would do with 3 grams of agarwood oil though

not herbal at all. smells really musky. like a ferret's cage. idk if you ever smelled that. not sure if one of the vetiver types they use has a really musky smell or if they add musk but the musk smell overpowers everything else.

Can someone tell me what the intent behind "Sport" flankers is?

I understand that "Cologne" flankers usually end up being lighter, fresher, more citrusy, etc. And that "Intense" usually takes one note and cranks it to 11, while "Elixir" is basically just higher oil concentration but with the same scent profile overall.
>>
>>18527257
I certainly don't think it smells like an animal's cage, and the beginning vetiver + anise accord smells quite like celery, though I'm not sure it's the kind of green to be called herbal.
>>18527416
Making more money by selling a frag that's similar enough but a bit fresher, leveraging the "sporty" connotation of the name.

You have to be over 18 to post on this site, you are too gullible. You can buy formulas online, and perfume anon doesn't work with dior shit. God! you're so fucking dumb.

>intense
>https://creative-formulas.com/product/d-homme-intense-type-formula/
>https://innosolinc.com/product/christian-dior-dior-homme-intense-type-perfumer-perfected-fragrance-formula/

Formulas are not the super secret thing you think they are, you can even get some for free:
>>
>>18527737
He created a few of Rojas scents ofc he knows about Diorslop
>>
>>18527739
That anon posted a basic formula you can find online, perfume anon wouldn't be using ingredient names from other companies. Fucking think.
>>
>>18527743
Ok pajeet keep sperging out that you drove away the best poster we’ve ever had with your incessant spam
>>
>>18527744
You just lack basic common sense and knowledge and jumped to the conclusion someone is Perfume anon because they copy pasted a formula. Here is the formula for The One:

Iso E Super™ 155

Does that make me perfume anon? No, because why would it?
>>
Alright this 7 Cobalt had better be as good as you guys keep saying.
>>
>>18527747
Perfumer anon said that formulas online are very unreliable and mostly a cash grab to sell materials, like this one from fraterworks
>>
>>18527252

>>
>>18527756
Still, perfumer anon left right when the Indian came back
>>
>>18527758
Perfume anon had not been silent for weeks and he posted through way worse spam and shitposts. I don't think he was the guy complaining and certainly he wouldn't post such a shitty formula.
>>
>>18527755
Whats it like? I don’t think this guy will decant a gram off his vial.
>>
>>18527762
He’s a master perfumer man ofc he’s gonna be driven away by that shit
>>
>>18527770
He wasn't a master perfumer, he was one of many that work on formulas, and no he ignored way worse which is why I know someone complaining about this shithole would not be him. The reason he came here was because this is a shithole he could post anonymously. He's not looking for an actual forum. This place always sucks.
>>
>>18527439
Same.

>>18527616
The feel of a magnetic cap snapping into place never gets old. I think the only frag I have with a magnetic cap other than Sauv Elixir and BdCE is Missoni Wave.

It’s also interesting, I just went and picked each up, Sauv and BdC both lock the cap into a specific position horizontally, as in the magnets are on the side of the cap. The Missoni just locks it straight down, meaning the magnets are vertical, if that makes any sense.

>>18527672
>>18527673
Congratulations Anon, truly a special item there. Enjoy.
>>
>>18527774
He created frags for Roja tho, that makes him a master perfumer. He’s not stupid ofc he’s gonna downplay what he does, just the fact that he basically knew every frag by memory and wrote in super high English shows he wasn’t just some normie worker bee, plus iirc he owned like half a kg of some super rare oud oil
>>
Yeah the other anon is right if my memory serves me correctly he’s the ghost perfumer for Roja or something like that
>>
>>18527770
I think he left because of the new Chanel release
>>
>>18527790
I think you went from speculation to wishful thinking. We assumed he worked on Roja because he could never give information about it. A whole team of people work on a fragrance, there is nothing to paint he was the head honcho. He talked about his experiments into making longer lasting citrus notes, that is not entry level but certainly not what a master perfumer would be focusing on, he was more in the sidelines. Again we are speculating based on very little information.
>>
>>18527801
Nah I think Chanel has got their own in house perfumers doing most of their stuff, plus the new Chanel is pretty goysloppy icl
>>
>>18527252
>>18527755
You may already be fully aware of this, but be conscientious of what you’re buying.

If it’s being advertised as agarwood you’re not getting oud. Oud is infected agarwood and they wouldn’t advertise it as agarwood when oud is more valuable.
>>
>>18527810
The first thing he said was where he worked but he realized it was too much info so he was a bit mute about further details. That's why I don't like to bring it up. He mentioned something about the region where he worked but again that was TMI but from his posting times it's easy to determine where he was. I don't remember him mentioning assistants but if he did he wasn't as green as I thought.

I currently own NYI. Would get Amouage Gold or Civet be too redundant?
Also looking for an Oud fragrance, but without a rose accord since i already own one (Oud & Spice). Open to suggestions, but i am considering these:
>Burgundy Oud Atelier Materi
>Voluptuous Oud Francesca Bianchi
>Notorious Oud DS&Durga
>Erba Oud Sospiro Perfumes
i also really like The Moon since i like the fruity oud accord, but at that price point, i may hold off.
>>
>>18527881
I'm not familiar with NYI but I have samples of civet and gold man and they are not very similar. Civet is an old-school french-style perfume, and Gold is very luxurious soapy-musky
>>
>>18527885

>>
>>18527968
something musky, subtle, sometimes with nuances of sweetness. It literally smells like plain baby powder or make up. Iris and violet notes dominate the powdery accord.
>>
>>18527968
It's more of a texture and feeling, the same with watery and airy notes. like if you eat mint it has a cooling fresh feeling. It makes sense when you smell it.
>>
>>18527968
It's not a note; it's an accord. Buy a sample of Dior Homme Intense, that should give you a solid reference for powdery fragrances
>>
>>18527968
You'll know it when you smell it. In plain terms it smells like make up. It's like a thick, caked-on scent sensation. As the other anon said, Dior Homme Intense is a pretty textbook example. Invasion Barbare is another that comes to my mind.
>>
>>18527826
Got a sample of it a few months ago and immediately spent about 10 minutes trying to scrub it off. Vile.
>>
>>18527658
>7-Up / Sprite fragrance
Buy Mugler Cologne it's literally this
>>
>>18527968
We use a specific word to describe it because it is a specific enough note/accord/sensation. Most of the time it happens due to iris or orris. Iris mostly leans towards beauty-product-like powderiness, from lipstick to baby powder to soapy. Usually has some sort of sweet quality to it, and it's an accord that lifts the rest of the fragrance, making it lighter without having to touch on citrics. Orris comes from the roots of iris flowers. subtler, and does indeed have an earthy quality or something sediment-like, mineral qualities, sometimes even woody, albeit still being very much powdery.

Prada, specifically Daniela Andrier, is the flagship for powderiness in designer perfumery. You should start by trying the Infusions line for classic iris, Prada L'Homme for a sweet scent that is made light by the powdery accord (powderiness and its lightness is usually contained on middle notes, therefore the drydown leans warmer and sweeter), and Cargo de Nuit for a very Orris-centered powderiness (results in a woody maritime scent despite no calone)
>>
nice totally organic "perfumer anon" simping

>>18527881
i need to test Civet but NYI and Gold Man are two very different fragrances, not redundant at all

>>18527968

>>
>>18528027
>Prada, specifically Daniela Andrier, is the flagship for powderiness in designer perfumery. You should start by trying the Infusions line for classic iris
I wasn't a big fan of powdery but Infusion D'Homme is not bad and really different from anything else I have. My favorite thing about it is actually not the powdery iris but the neroli, cedar, and frankincense. The neroli adds crispness to the top, the cedar gives some foundation at the heart, and the frankincense adds interest to the base with balsamic notes. It's a strange composition which would have done better marketed in a different line since it's not very mainstream friendly. It's a bit of a bait and switch because it starts fresh powdery and clean, then under the surface there are strange things brewing.

Can anyone compare early vintage Drakkar to Bon Monsieur? I can get first run 100ml Vintage DN for around $250CAD and a 30ml Bon Monsieur is $165CAD before duties. I don’t mind the smaller size since I rotate enough it will last forever. I had the current formula of DN on last night and it’s just so good, I’d like something with better performance.

>Can anyone compare early vintage Drakkar to Bon Monsieur?
I own both.
The first edition of DN is much dirtier and earthier due to the heavy patchouli, but it mostly fades away into the DN you're more familiar with, but with oakmoss. If it's a true first edition vintage, then prepared for it to be quite muted by now compared to its former glory, especially if opened.

Bon Monsieur will have the best performance out of the three choices, and is most similar to the 2nd+ editions of Drakkar Noir up until they took the oakmoss out. From a FOMO standpoint, you'd want the DN, but I think you'd like Bon Monsieur better based on your enjoyment of current-formulation DN.

Someone knowledgeable explain what is Cashmeran? I see it on fragrantica from time to time, I think it's supposed to smell similar to leather but when I went to a candle store they have this scent and it just smells like clean laundry to me
>>
>>18528177
Notino has 150 ml for 80 euro now, and it's still not worth it IMO.
>>
>>18528215
It's supposed to evoke essentially a warm clean wool smell you get from clothes. Could come off as leather I guess if you mean suede.
>>
>>18528210
Right on. I’ll probably go for Bon Monsieur then. I don’t really care all that much about the vintage aspect. I just like the scent profile and want it to be stronger.

If he couldn't figure out what a powdery note was from the word alone, more words will likely not help. As far as reporting, mods are fags, they rarely do anything. I report stuff just to hide it.

>>
>>18528255
It's from Italy, 1996. Smells like... Musk and lime, has that piss/man's toilet smell a lot of old frags have in the opening, otherwise smells nice, it's a pretty sweet and clean smelling scent. Reminds me of a clean fresh smelling old person.

do people really buy frags off ebay?
>>
>>18528409
Yes, it's great for vintage stuff. Anything modern that gets faked you have to shop the seller and scrutinize the images. I'm just surprised by the sheer number of them.

Does anyone here mostly purchase decants? I only occassionaly like a fragrance enough to want to buy a full bottle and it feels fun to try loads of new ones
>>
>>18528692
I'll go through phases of buying a ton of decants, and then pick up a few full bottles from the decants I liked. I have been blind buying bottles more lately though.........
>>
>>18528692
I got a 100ml of a generic designer to hold me over because it felt expensive to get decants. I'm already getting bored of it and have like 80% of it left. I want to go the decant route when I have the funds but something else that bothers me is not having a bottle as a memento. I wish 30ml bottles were more common, that might be the middle ground I'm looking for.
>>
>>18528736
I like to go through the hefty 5ml and 10ml decants but I think you could still have fun with say 1 or 2ml working your way through a different house every couple weeks
>>
Considering this for fall. It's cheap on discounters.
>>
>>18528762
i had the blue parfum gift set, you can tell it is super smooth blend. it's almost gone and its hard to appreciate how nice it is until you go back to a synthetic cheapy

Does anyone here have experience making homemade LittleTrees? What is the ratio of essential oils to solvent I should use? Dowanol DPM or TPM?

Big Car Freshener keeps their cards close to their chest. Pls halp.
>>
>>18528692
I can't buy decants because A) I mostly buy vintage and discontinued fragrances that rarely have decants available and B) I'm paranoid I'm going to get something cloned, watered down, or both. Also I love looking at my bottle collection, it makes my pp twitch every time.
>>
>>18528818
Wear Pineward fragrances, -be- the little tree.

It’s kind of weird, I didn’t realize how cheap the older Chanel’s are… Antaeus, Egoiste, they’re both less than $150.

I had never actually looked at the price and just assumed they were expensive af, and on top of that never showed up on discounters (because fuck Chanel), but that’s actually pretty affordable…

I fucking hate blind buying… but I may have to blind buy some Chanel shit the next time I feel like treating myself.
