This thread offers a forum to discuss and debate wristwatches, pocketwatches, and clocks. Several members here are highly knowledgeable in specified areas of horology, so please contribute to the thread by asking questions and/or asking for advice if you are planning on purchasing a watch from an AD or the grey market. Please post pics of your watches here; it doesn't matter if it's worth 5$ or 5,000$, because there might be someone who wishes to eventually purchase the same model that you own and would love to hear some real-world advice regarding ownership. The experience matters the most, not the price.

Everyone is welcome in this thread, because we are all Frens here.

The idea of requiring "previous purchases" is such a non-issue. All watch-autist brands avoid this behavior. Only brands that cater to normalfags/celebs/bourgeoisie do it.

Agreed; brands considered 'desirable' in greater society do this to maintain their desirable status. You find this with women's purses, luxury cars, etc...it's all the same. My recommendation to the Fren waiting for his stainless steel sports watch was to either purchase more or go grey market precisely because Rolex plays this game.

I do wonder what will happen now that the watchmarket is reverting slowly but surely back to pre-Covid levels. I would be surprised if any brand actually lowers their prices, but I wouldn't be surprised if brands like Omega start to offer in-store under-the-table discounts again. Rolex availability may start to increase again too, but it may still take a few years until you can just walk into a Rolex AD and buy an Explorer outright from the display case.

Have a great thread, Frens. Be excellent to each other!

Heading to Japan tomorrow, might end up getting a Grand Seiko while I'm there, anyone know if there are any Japan exclusives i should look out for? If not i have always leaned towards the white birch but hadnt ever decided on spring drive or hibeat. If i do get one not sure if i should buy from the Ginza flashship store or find a department store.

I dont really want a chronograph as i already have a speedmaster which is one of the few of those that has a look i like. I meant more like are there japan exclusive dials. I know the Ginza gold one but gold dial with silver casing doesnt seem like it would look that good, but maybe in person it does. My friend went a few months ago and got the Shunbun so probably wouldnt get the same one as him. I didnt see it that long when he showed it but im not sure i was sold on that dial vs white birch anyways. I had seen that it seems like a fair amount of people have issues with hibeat running much faster than the spec says it should which worries me about getting one of those over a spring drive.

I personally wouldn't go to the ginza wako boutique unless you want something very specific and exclusive. If you fo decide to go to ginza for a white birch, please make sure to AVOID """harry"""-san. He's the pretty much the Only English speaking employee there and he hangs out on the 2nd floor (GS and Credor only-floor). He's like.... 60 something, 160cm in height and- I guess he will come to talk to you if he sees that you're actually there to buy something and not just to window shop.
Why not there? Well it's a boutique and you can't negotiate the price. They demand MSRP and they can not Not demand that because it would imply that they don't believe in their own set prices. AFAIK the white birch went up again in price and sits at 1.3 million yen right now. -10% taxfree you're at about 1.15 which is still pretty good but you can find them new for 1 million or 900K if you look long enough.
If you care for the experience, it's... Well I got my credor from there (wasn't available anywhere else) and you just open a cheap sparkling wine and drink it with two employees or something while you talk a bit about watches. Some of the employees there are very cute though so that's not so bad.
It's a very beautiful building, and I recommend visiting, definitely. The 2nd floor has also a small section of GS's history etc.
If you're looking for vintage watches, go to ueno, specifically to my man Mizutani

6-9-17 ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo, Japan, 110-0005

And I guess Nakano Broadway...

Closing, if it's your first GS, get a spring drive. Unless you like the much better looking 9S movement so much more. The spring drive is like +3 after 4-5 months.

>>
>>18530007
Drawing shows a diamond-pointed square (a “square on point”) with a crown at one corner. That shape matches Vacheron Constantin's tonneau-style or asymmetrical cushion cases more than their standard round designs.

One specific match: the Ref. 25541/000G, a ladies’ 18 k white-gold, diamond-set tonneau-shape wristwatch, circa 2005. Case measures approximately 27 × 37 mm and includes ~340 diamonds.

Another possibility: The “1972” Exclusive Edition Ref. 25515/000G-9234. This has an asymmetric, uniquely shaped case that isn’t round—a deviation from Vacheron’s usual forms. Also set with diamonds.

Therefore:

If you’re referring to a diamond-pointed square (rotated square) with a crown at an angled corner—that aligns more with the tonneau / cushion variants like Ref. 25541/000G.

If the form is more stylized and asymmetrical, consider the 1972 line (e.g., Ref. 25515).

Provide more visual detail or reference number if needed for precision.

>Am I the only one who doesn't understand the hate towards this guy?
Initially, the hate against him was no different than any other avatarfag: they resented his need to make every thread about himself. That’s normal.
After the watch-discussers split off and made their own thread, the people who disliked his off-topic posting are gone and the remainder of the hate against him is people who genuinely just dislike him, but more likely is just continuing a thread tradition of shitting on anyone who wants to be the thread’s main character.

As for being “polite and helpful”, he’s that only sometimes. Sometimes he’s in a good mood and tries to offer advice based on his own limited experience, but other times he’s in a bad mood a just tries to stir up shit. That’s normal avatarfag behavior.

Hope this helps.

When Whoretadello was still living in Germany, he was going through a massive oversharing period where he would post pics of people with their faces unblurred, even giving their names or the restaurant they were meeting.
After getting banned repeatedly, ban evading, getting re-banned, he learned to behave himself more often.
That picture is an old one. One of his former friends, I think.

This was posted 2 years ago. not exactly this picture because as you can see it's cropped. it was a wide lense-shot that's why it might look a bit weird. Bitteranon cropped that small specific part of the wide shot picture and guided everyone's attention to that part of the picture which nobody else had noticed, effectively trying to dox the guy in the pic. He's been posting it ever since 2023 and claims that the original poster is the one who wants to post the depicted person. According to warosu, he posted this picture 56 times over the course of 2 years.

Anon why do you come into this thread? It's a watch thread, can we talk about watches?
Anyway, i lied when i said i didn't vibe with the blue one, it grew on me and basically i decided i want some color and wanted to pull the trigger tomorrow, only to visit the site again and find out the blue one is not available anymore... It's not out of stock, it says 'pre-order' and they notify you if/when it's a ailable again. So i can either go with black (or white?meh) now while it is still available, or risk waiting for them to restock and bombing them with 'requests' from burner emails in the meantime to simulate demand. Or i can pay 30% more at some other shop.
What do i do? The black is just fine and even more versatile, but i don't wan to rush it and then regret it in two weeks if it's available again, and i also don't like risking for the black one to become unavailable as well in case that happens.
