By chosing 3 different TYPES of watches

Which 3 types of watches do you chose and why are they useful for you?

Which type is the less useful?
>>
>>18532113
>watches
>useful
lol, lmao get a load of this boomer
>>
I'd get a Chrono, dress and fitness

Chrono is just something I use all the time, it's super handy to be able to start a stopwatch just one click away.
Dress? I want something super nice for special occasion.
Fitness - because I'm not a fucking fattie
These would be: Speedmaster Moon phase, Reverso, Garmin Instinct 3 Solar
>>
My top 3:
>Field watch
no nonsense, only the time
>Pilot watch
same with great legibility, anti-magnetic
>Sports watch
rugged, for an active lifestyle

And the types that are useless for me:
>divers
I don't dive and if i swim i take off my watch, especially if it's a luxury one. Also, both sand and salty water are bad for steel watches. tldr; divers are useless and just for nostalgia (divers use dive omputers)
>dress watch
Never worn a suit in my life and i rarely see people wearing them since COVID. If you wear a dress watch but dress casual, you have no clue about the different levels of formality, therefore you don't have the codes to wear a dress watch and you look foolish.
>chronograph
What do people time with those, really? I'm pretty sure the function is not used by 99% of people wearing a chrono.
>GMT
It seems like it takes more time to set the GMT hand and check if it's ok with your smartphone than to actually read the time on it and trust it. This function doesn't compete against smartphones imo, unlike the more simple time only designs.
>>
Sports
Diver
Fitness

Oh what a coincidence, that's my daily rotation
>>
>>18532119
Watches are faster than smartphones to check the time (it's on display on your wrist 24/7), and more socialy acceptable in meetings and social situations.
>>
>>18532121
>Chrono is just something I use all the time
for what exactly?
>>
>>18532130
brushing teeth, boiling eggs, roasting chicken

but my favourite use case is work related. when a colleague says something like "I could do it in X minutes" I pop the chrono and reply with "okay clocks ticking". it's usually meet with panic in their eyes. I work in IT so this happens a lot (disclaimer for whoever needs it: it's a joke you fucking autist, I don't mean to really clock them)
>>
>>18532140
>boiling eggs, roasting chicken
Except that analog chronos don't ring a bell when the time is up.
So you're pretty much checking your watch the whole time and you could just look at the minute hand instead.

I do approve bullying your colleagues with it tho.

GMT/Diver
Tank
Protrek
>>
>>18532155
>Tank
That's a shape, not a type of watch.
It's a time-only watch, zero specific function.

No it is "DRESS" or "SPORT". Stupid nigger.
>>
Watch 1: Everyday
This would be a field watch or a chronograph. Pure utility/tool. No obstructions. Minimal. Not flashy. Glanceable.

Key: Jogger-safe. If it doesn't look like a diver (which most people associate with rolexes), you are less likely to attract attention.

Watch 2: Active/Physical
This would be a strong watch WITH alarms, calendars, timers, stopwatch. A compass. G-shocks and Garmin fit this. It's the watch you want when you're lost in the woods, or if you're doing hard work or working out.

Watch 3: Dress/Conversation
The watch you wear on a formal night out. Suit and tie events. It can be super dressy, or an eccentric conversation starter like the Ochs Und Junior pieces and the like. (My field watch is classy enough to double as a dress watch, so i really only have 2 watches in my collection)

that's literally the ultimate solution to the clock on wrist problem. everything else is tryhard and/or boomer
>>
All you need is a dress watch. The rest are just variations of the dress watch with a couple of bells and whistles added that you'll never use. A "smartwatch" is just a tiny phone on a strap. If I really have to pick 3, then it's going to be the dress watch, pilot watch and a field watch.
>>
>>18532563
>it's tryhard boomershit if it's not a block of plastic with a colorful cellphone display on it
Why are zoomerniggers such screen obsessed NPCs?
>>
>>18532113
First would be an Apple Watch. I use it as a running watch and it’s just useful apart from that. I wear this most days.

The next watch is a complicated “formal” watch. An evening watch. It’s not a “traditional” tiny dress watch. It will be precious metal, be on a leather strap, and have one or more interesting complications.
Examples:
>Lange One, JLC Master Chrono Calendar, Moser Endeavour Perpetual Calendar, Breguet Tradition

It he third watch is the “semi-formal” watch. A daytime watch. It’s for attending a nice event during the day. Think about what you’d wear if you were attending an F1 Grand Prix and what you’d wear in the paddock club. This will be on a bracelet or a rubber strap.
Examples:
Hublot Big Bang, AP Royal Oak/Offshore, UN Blast, or more mundane pieces like a Rolex Daytona.
>>
>>18532569
unironically more effay than the rolexes all 3 watch generals on this board drool over. more functional too lol
>>
>>18532576
Look at bozo lightyear over here with his mini phone on his wrist.
>>
>>18532600
look at this insecure nerd with a $30k watch he's afraid to even take out of the box
>>
>>18532127
How deep do you dive?
>>
>>18532612
Sounds like you're an envious little shit jealous of people who have enough money to splurge on accessories. That's just weak and gay. Be better.
>>
>>18532113
I only need two.
A fitness/smartwatch. This is for everyday wear
A Cartier Santos-Dumont. This is for nights out and other more formal wear. Straps are cheap and easy to swap out so you can always make sure your leathers match.
>>
Anyone have a recommendation for a site where I can get quality replicas?
>>
>>18532612
But I have a watch from a microbrand that delights me with its mechanical and thoughtful design, under 1000 euros.
>>
>>18532760
Go to r/reptime and read the FAQ. That's where I found out about the best ones. I just can't recall because it's been a long time.
>>
I would do a chrono, a field, and a diver. These three. Purely because I like the way they look.
>>
>>18532777
Is the Alpinist really a field watch tho?
>>
>>18532760
Get it fast because soon, everything you say on Watsapp will be monitored (they are passing a law about it), so you won't be able to buy watches using watsapp.
>>
>>18532612
Most people here do not have this. They have like one or two used watches, often one of the cheapest ones. Eg an explorer, the 2nd cheapest rolex, which people buy used for like $6k once they get their big boy job after a few yoe.
>>
>>18532784
It's for climbing and hiking mountains. You could say sport except that's a meaningless class which says nothing.
>>
>>18532794
Last month I went hiking but I wore a dive watch. It was incredibly nerve wracking. I felt like I took an unnecessary risk hiking without a field watch. There were several points where the dive watch almost got me killed.
>>
>>18532796
I can imagine so. When the rain starts you would be afraid of drowning since you don't have your scuba gear. At any moment you could fall into a puddle and drown without even having the patching equipment to the diving ring

>field
>dress
>dress
I don't lead an adventurous life. I have a very nice dress watch I inherited from grandfather that comes out for special occasions. I have a cheaper dress watch my gf gave me that I wear daily. Whenever I do anything else I have a field watch from work that I can beat up. The rest are just more than I need for my lifestyle.
>>
>>18532791
that's a lot to spend on a trinket
>>
>>18532791
>They have like one or two used watches, often one of the cheapest ones. Eg an explorer, the 2nd cheapest rolex, which people buy used for like $6k once they get their big boy job after a few yoe.
And it's bad because what?
Seems like a sensible thing to do.
>>
>>18533835
>that's a lot to spend on a trinket
The greatest trinket. A trinket that you wear for the rest of your life and feel warmth in your heart everytime you look at it.
>>
>>18533865
If you're going to buy a pointless piece of jewelry you should at least buy one with a personality imo. There are other cases of lack of imagination after first getting a little bit of money like buying a black 911.
>>
>>18532113
>Field Watch
Spend most of the time wearing one. I like the legible dials, fabric straps, they look good with jeans and a tshirt, tend to still look good when they get scratched up, these are the watches I wear the most when doing outdoor activities, hiking camping fishing etc.
>Dress Watch
Contrary to popular belief you don't need to be wearing a suit to pull off a dress watch. I wear my dress watch when I want to have a classier look, going to museums, nice dinners, on dates, etc.
>Integrated steel bracelet sports watch
A versatile watch that can be dressed up or down and fit almost any situation. Used to "fill in the gaps" when I don't think my dress watch or field watch fits the outfit i'm wearing.

There aren’t 8 types of watches. They’re just 6 with the addiction of 1. That picture is retarded.

Pilot Watch = Field Watch
>same category

Diver Watch = Sport Watch
>same category
(Also, a chronograph can be either a sport watch [Daytona] or a dress watch [vintage 35mm Breitlings and Longines]. Again, that picture is retarded).

>category missing
The digital watch. Not smart or fitness, just the Casio classic aesthetic. F91Ws, G-Shocks and so on. You can’t miss this one, c’mon.
