Bright sunshine today, a cool and crisp 11 degrees Celsius outside. It's a Guerlain Vetiver day.
Just blind bought Kilian Dark Lord because I'm a chud. What am I in for?
>>18542341>What am I in for?eternal shame for not buying Gucci Guilty Absolute instead
>>18542330BASED
>>18542330>wakes up>"hmmm... I want to smell like a retirement home today!"

>SOTD: Polo
>>18542343That shit doesn't last, regardless of what every shill says and simply it smells bad.
>>18542343That one doesn't come in a cool skull case though.
>>1854233028 degrees Celsius here today. 8 sprays of Neroli Intense

Looking to switch up my cologne. This has been my bread and butter for a while now but I'm considering getting Bleu de Chanel. Is it just a meme or is it worth the hype? Wouldn't mind also getting a Tom Ford like Oud Wood or Tobacco Vanille. Thoughts? Don't want to stray too far from By The Fireplace, as I really like a sweeter fragrance.
>>18542369Coomer mutt samefagging as always
>>18542377>posts "BMWF" racebait>seethes when you mention it's actually a jewish womanNot so slick are you Chaim?
>>18542374Bleu de chanel is nothing special anymore. Only reddit cultists still think it's worth wearing.
>>18542374I am really liking jazz Club, maybe try that
>>18542349Dakar is trash that spoils after a year because the bottle isnt even sealed correctly. I put on real drakkar noir from a brand nee “reformulated” bottle at 7pm yesterday and still smell it 14 hrs later. This cope has to stop, your nose is fucking broken. Arab slop “fragrance” was a mistake.
Got a bottle of L'Artisan Perfumeur's Fleur de Liane. I thought it was going to be more feminine but it turns into something unisex bordering masculine. It starts with a burst of green, that intense smell of when you break the stem of a marigold. It's not a cheap sharp green scent but realistic and it permeates the composition. I actually get more of the oceanic notes at the base, they are probably at the top too and have an effect on the fragrance but it's easier for me to pick them up when it's one of the few notes left. After the opening there is a brief floral section with some nice magnolia but it doesn't last. There is nothing about it that smells perfumy or artificial, it's very natural and realistic. Fragrances like this feel at the same time lazy and highly skilled. It simply smells like walk on the verdant wilderness but to accomplish this takes quite a lot of skill. This is not a mainstream scent, unless you think smelling like a tagete stem is mainstream, it smell almost brutal to me. It doesn't project but surprisingly it lasts quite a bit close to the skin, probably because of the moss on the base holding it together. The moss and woodiness at the base is quite unique because you still get oceanic and green notes till the end. I don't like to embellish or wax poetically but what I'll say is that the combination of realistic green and oceanic notes is quite complex.
>>18542374how about sampling some fragrances rather than falling for babbys first cologne
>>18542360Funnily, this is probably the only frag I'd be interested in hunting down a vintage bottle of, to see what it was really like 30 years ago. Because yeah, the current bottle I own is majestic.
>>18542374BdC is the quintessential blue fragrance. Personally can't get behind the incense drydown (tried EdP). You've likely smelled many fragrances that are in that genre and it's harder to justify paying the full retail price that Chanel demands when more modern blues exist, even in the niche realm if you're really looking for the best. It does have a niche as being the most professional blue you'll typically find at department stores but since you're here you can probably find an alternative. Lastly, it's the most sold men's fragrances, you will smell like many other men, particularly middle aged men who have been rocking BdC for over almost two decades.
>>18542273>add Gucci Guilty Absolute somewhere (although I always hear rumors of that one getting discontinued too).it in fact has been
I've run out of almost all of my frags, which gives me an excuse to buy new stuffFor the winter and special occasions I've already settled on Jazz Club because it's simply the sexiest scent I've ever smelled, everyone loves itFor hot weather though I have no idea what to get. What's the summer equivalent to Jazz Club?
>>18542384A Drakkar Noir fragrance with high quality ingredients and a more grassy niche twist, when?
>>18542310sampling a bunch of animalics. musc ravageur was too tame so I pull out muscs koublai khan. photoreal jeet scent. wtf does this really drop panties>>18542341addicting and intense burnt tire smell. recommend beaufort london frags like terror and magnificence if you end up liking it
>>18542374BdC is good if you can find a deal on it secondhand. Its not worth the retail price. It’s very versatile and easy to wear and it has that chanel charm to it. Its neither a meme nor worth the hype its just a good simple fragrance for men. I love tobacco vanille and if you like the sweetness of BTF you’ll love TV. You might also like Angels Share. I’m wearing that today and it’s really lovely.
is this a good blind buy
Anyone have any experience with MM's "When the Rain Stops?"
>>18542468>Anyone have any experience with MM'sno, it's a slop house
>>18542468I have a sample. It's okay but nothing special. I prefer Hermann by ELDO for a rose + rain scent, it's more bold
>>18542426>What's the summer equivalent to Jazz Club? There isn't one, it's a heavy sweet scent
>>18542426>equivalent to Jazz Clubequivalent in what sense? i doubt you'll find a boozy tobacco for the summer. in any case, go for Bois Imperial or Vibrato. can't go wrong with those>>18542452MR is tame on the animalics, i don't even think it's animalic, maybe a little musky but nothing wild. i got Khiel's Original Musk and apparently it's quite close to MKK. i haven't tried MKK, but i did try Carnicure and it was similar. in terms of wearable animalics, i go for Antaeus and NYI. >>18542466i am not a fan of the pear note. Fleur Narcotique was better imo
>>18542472Bois Imperial never clicked for me. It's too overwhelmingly chemical smelling and gives me a headache after a couple of hours.
>wearable animalics>NYIWhat did he mean by this?
>>18542451Isn't that exactly what Bon Monsieur is?
>>18542479the civet note in NYI is pretty prominent. but in my experience, everyone that smlled it liked it, whereas other perfumes with animalic notes can be a bit polarizing
>>18542495I know civet is listed, but desu I never detected it
>>18542498>>18542495>NYI>civetcheck again
>>18542504How do they not list sandalwood?
>>18542495>>18542498There’s a “musk” note listed, but it doesn’t specify civet, and I don’t think anyone would ever call it an animalic fragrance any more than they would Encre Noire, Dylan Blue, or Fahrenheit, which all also list a musk note. >>18542504Beat me to it, with receipts.
>>18542466Every indian and arab on my BST fb group glazes it as the best so its probably very pleasantly boring.
>>18542504>>18542507perhaps it's a new formulation? their bottle looks different than the one i own
>>18542507Ive seen the “NYI has civet” a couple times now and it really feels like the new “Indians wear Habit Rouge” meme but the guy trying to make it a thing just isnt working as hard pushing italso its funny to see Nicky is rebranding NYI as New York EdP where as the original New York is EdT
>>18542451Houbigant's Duc de Vervins L'Extreme is a 1:1 recreation of modern Drakkar Noir with more longevity and an actual oakmoss drydown
>>18542513see >>18542510interesting, maybe something was indeed changed, my old(er) bottle also has civet and castoreum listed as base notes
>>18542513everywhere apart the website lists civet and castoreum in the list of notes. it's also in many reviews>>18542520i knew it. i recall reading it on my box as well but i discarded it so couldn't fact check it. this exact list is what i see on so many sites. perhaps the site just omits it due to IFRA regulations
>>18542472>>18542504>>18542507>>18542510Huh. The Gay Dragon did a review on it and mentions the presence of castoreum which also isn’t listed, so what do I know. You may be right about the presence of civet or other musks, by I stand by the fact that I wouldn’t call it an animalic fragrance by a long shot.
>>18542526>I wouldn’t call it an animalic fragrance by a long shot.i agree desu
>>18542524Parfumo only lists the musk, and their current website also only lists musk, so that’s what I was going off of, but yeah sure enough >>18542520 there it is. I’m no NYI connoisseur but if I had to take a stab in the dark I’d guess they just de-listed the notes because they’re such (at least to my nose, and I would guess many others) minimal part of the perceived profile. Thank you Anon for the info/pic.

Is there any talk about Henry Jacques in this group? Thoughts?
>>18542472I have kiehls and mkk. They are similar off the top but Kiehls is 97% galaxolide so it is extremely linear. MKK is far more dynamic and becomes much dirtier as it dries.

Has anyone tried this? how does this compare to Prada L'Homme and DHI?
is bois imperial worth it, /frag/?
>>18542714yes, it's cheap and not bad at all
>>18542714I have passed on multiple cheap bottles of it. Its an okay fragrance but I’m just not sure what the point of it is. Its good value for its scent and performance i guess
Finally got my sample of L'Air du Désert Marocain Noir in and had the chance to sample it. Simply put, it ain’t worth the money. It’s not much different from ACDD, or even LADDM for that matter. Sadly it really feels like Tauer is leaning more and more into cash grabs with limited production releases and now he has started pointless flankers. This is all alongside the fact he’s bumping prices higher and higher.
Anyone try Aesop fragrances? I use their deodorant but would like to get a fragrance too.
>>18542704Lowkey better iris than PLH, but DH is still better. It's on the cleaner side, more office-safe.
>>18542736i actually really enjoy the Aesop DNA. they're typically green, woody, earthy type of fragrances, but they're also a little muted and don't perform that long, except maybe their Marakkesh one. i think they're fine as long as you either don't mind reapplying or switching it up during the day.as much as like the smell, they're not necessarily what i would go for in terms of wearing. on the other hand, i own two of their room sprays. i think that their DNA is better suited for it in my opinion
>>18542714An indian in my buy/sell/trade group posted this image in his review of it and said it was the worst mens fragrance he ever smelled.
someone mentioned the "Haunted" Dior batch in the last thread, What was that?
>>18542714It performs well but it depends if you like the smell. I find it shrill and overbearing.
>>18542731I think his best stuff are behind him but that's also true for most brands. The price hike sucks balls.
>>18542749the facft that he's Indian makes me think the fragrance is actually pretty good then
>>18542751 One of Diors Asian suppliers had an issue where a bunch of guys drowned in some giant chemical vat, they just fished them out and pretended like nothing happened
>>18542776yeah, nah, that never happened
>>18542781Perfumeranon mentioned it last thread
>>18542776Theoretically that would just make the batch have an animalic accord which could smell nice in small quantities
Bros….I’m getting curious about initio slop…surely it can’t be that bad. Musk Therapy and Paragon both sound kind of nice.
just sampled dior homme sport and I like it more than dh 2020, has this happened to any of you anons?
>>18542834I never bothered sniffing DH2020, DHS2021 seemed better in every way.
>>18542834I tried DHS and I just wasn’t sure what it was supposed to be for. It wasnt what I would look for in a sport fragrance. DH2020 is more pleasant in the heat and DHS seemed to have more clashing notes that I wouldn’t want to smell during exercise. It was not refreshing at all.

Is it fine to stick to designers? I'm not sure if I want to pay the premium on samples and blind buying is off the table since most niche frags outside of Arab dupes are more expensive than designers. I feel guilty being a basic bitch though.
>>18543563NTA but I also got the urge to try some serge lutens fragrances last week. ended up blind buying 100ml of Poivre Noir and 50ml of L'orpheline from fragrancenet since they sound fairly safe are were very cheap (paid $115 thanks to -$25 from their points and -$25 with an amex offer).I also want to try Vetiver Oriental, Iris Silver Mist, and Gris Clair. Only option for buying those is the 75ml bell jar for $325 which is too much to blind buy so I'll have to find a way to sample these first.
>>18543569Yes. There are a lot of good designers out there and you can often get a sort of middle of the road experience by finding underappreciated discontinued designers. Stuff like Body Kouros or DH2011 or M7 is like $100-150 and smells really unique. Serge Lutens also is pretty affordable.
>>18543419I have actually never properly sampled any other IM frag kek. Only have tried quick sniff of leau in store and it's got too much citric noise for me, reminiscent of dish soap/window detergent. I really wanna give encens a sniff tho
>>18543607Have you tried Religieuse? I've been eyeing it for some time but don't have anywhere to sample it locally, only blind buying it from online discounters.
>>18543196fake and gay
>>18543641Nta but I've tried it. It's slightly floral and sweet with a touch of blackcurrant and a heap of incense. Not overbearing like an amouage would be. It's very light, bordering on feminine, but quite good. I wore it for Easter and i found it very fitting
>>18542395I also got a bottle of Frederic Malle's Dans Tes Bras. It's a very cozy powdery floral with notes that are often used in fabric softener which some people don't enjoy. Something that is unique to it (relative to fabric softener) is a sweet creamy scent behind the heart notes. It doesn't last until the base notes but it's quite present. Not a big fan of sweet scents but it's a bit behind the main notes, not up front. The heliotrope reminds me Gucci Eau de Parfum but where the Gucci goes more into spices, the Malle goes into fresh and clean. While both feminine, Dans Tes Bras goes more masculine because of its simplicity and modern profile. It lasts a decent amount and project well for a couple hours before settling down. Maybe it might go well sprayed on clean clothes, will test.
>>18543337Ignore >>18543417>>18543436 is a more accurate description of musks. I’ve brought this up on several occasions, “musk” is an umbrella term for a huge group of molecules that can smell like polar opposites, but they’re all lumped together because of their chemical structure. Originally musks came from animal secretions and *when used in small doses* helped promote floral notes and extend longevity to fragrances. Larger doses smell like shit, as you said. It’s the modern synthetic musks that smell clean, powdery, or soapy.
>>18543700musk that was competently removed from the musk gland absolutely smells clean. if it smells dirty, it's an inferior product.
>>18543698Finally, I got a bottle of the popular Malle Portrait of a Lady. Many people know it but for me it starts sweet and fruity but not juicy fruit, a "dark" fruit, almost tart. The rose is listed on some sites at the top but it's part of the entire composition. The combo of rose, frankincense, and patchouli is what gives the fragrance its distinctive profile but to me it's quite similar to Tauer's Incense Rose. They don't smell the same because the Tauer leans dryer and patchier with the castoreum giving it some strangeness. The Malle backs up the combo with more sharpness and palpability through added sweetness and fruitiness. The Tauer is wild and cryptic, the Malle is elegant and assertive. They are both scents originally marketed as feminine that became more popular with men than women, likely due to their intensity. Portrait of a Lady is well known for its performance, I don't need to say anything other than it doesn't leave anyone wanting. It's almost too much for me, I like my scents to move on and give me a break. Incense Rose is more my speed but I missed out on getting it before the tariffs so I'll have to settle for Portrait of Lady when I need to get my fix.
My signature scent? Le Male.
How are the Eau Sauvage flankers?
>>18543698I really like this one. It is very cozy like you say. Reminds me of a hug from someone and you smell some light fragrance or soap on them.
I’m always a little disappointed when I look at the chemical makeup of a fragrance and it’s everything I expected. I like seeing unusual combinations and unique chemicals. On that note, I like acqua di sale for its use of seaweed abs.

What's an upgrade for Santal 33? Really love the frag, it's been my signature for years but I feel like there's something better for its price.
>>18543691Does the musk go pissy/sweaty? Also, is the incense sweet and ambery a la ambre sultan, interlude etc or more cold and green like in avignon, full incence etc

>>18543844You sound gay
>>18543821I’m sorry to disappoint you seeing as you most likely hold this fragrance in high regard, but the “freshie with some twists” moniker is unusually fitting when it comes to acqua di sale. It is not a particularly complex fragrance, having a very common marine accord consisting of Calone, canthoxal, helional, linalyl acetate seaweed absolute and some other materials. Besides the aforementioned seaweed absolute, it shares many similarities with other fragrances in this niche. It shares 19 aromachemicals with Acqua di Gio, a fragrance I consider synonymous with the words “Acquatic freshie”. Despite not really straying off the beaten path I think it’s nonetheless a pleasant fragrance.

>>18543873>This is how frankincense smells likeThis chart confuses me. I want a frag that smells like the frankincense when it's actually burning, not just how the resin smells before it touches fire.

>>18543889Check the OP flowchart for sandalwoods. Santal 33 is already positioned as a top end luxury fragrance so “upgrading” in that sense may be difficult. You could look into some of the high end natural perfumeries like Ensar Oud or Bortnikoff (dubious if they are truly high end but anyway) to see if theres anything using real mysore sandalwood extracts. I think Bortnikoff Dream uses real mysore. What about Santal 33 do you like and what part of it do you feel could be improved?
>>18543889>>18543895I think Initio Paragon is a sandalwood/palo santo type scent also. I’m looking to pick it up soon. This thread will tell you Initio is slop but I figured I would mention it, might be worth at least sampling.

>>18544029Then yeah definitely check out the other sandalwoods on the flowchart, and Egoiste really is the perfect starting point. Also the high end natural houses may be up your alley. I have a couple of bortnikoffs and they evolve nicely, though they do lack the “wow” factor.
