I have a friend who's like NW4 + diffuse thinning and he tried the shaving cope and he looked like a reddit basedtard with a beard and like a chemo patient without it. Everybody also thought he looked 10 years older all of the sudden.Same thing with dudes that have relatively intact hairlines but with a bald spot. Of course a bald spot looks bad but you don't spend all day looking at the back of somebody's head so your brain just kind of filters out the knowledge that they're bald if you hang out with them long enough . It's like seeing some kind of hair no matter how shitty tricks your subconsciousness somewhat, but when you see somebody that's slick head bald your lizard brain instantly detects the basedack phenotype and gives you an ick.
Personally I think NW1 and sometimes even 2 looks really good. Gives your face some character and still leaves tons of styling options; as long as your crown density isn't affected you've got nothing to worry about at that stage. I'm a diffuse thinner, tried various copes, too many to list, from age 21 when I first noticed to 26 when I first shaved it. I never did the Redditor beard though, I go for the full Mr. Clean. I've been doing sports all my life so it wasn't an issue for me, but if I hadn't the first thing I would do is get in shape. Not saying you have to be a bodybuilder but definitely don't be pudgy like Tim or skinny like an Auschwitz survivor. I wear hats outside all the time, because fuck getting sun damage or freezing my ass off because someone thinks I'm coping, if my fully shaved dome doesn't show you I've embraced it nothing will. I take them off indoors because that's just common courtesy. The only major change I made to my style was the addition of a single loop earring on my left ear, because I like the way it looks (always have since I saw Nick Cassavetes's character in Face/Off) and it brings the eye down closer to my browline and helps frame my face in the absence of hair. I work in mental health counseling and I'm surrounded by early to mid 20s BPD bitches every day, I get a reasonable amount of compliments on my appearance and style so I think I'm at least doing something right.
