>>18544861>Polaris ChronographMakes more sense than the dive watch variants that didn’t have screw down crowns and only 100m WR.12mm thick is pretty good for an automatic chronograph too.
>>18544867what watch is in the reflection?
>>18544861Sorry for posting Citizen, but... If you remember the retard with the old Citizen Eco-Drive watch whose hour hand had got stuck on 6 or 12, it was me. Someone here said it just need to be cleaned. They were right – thank you! I bought "13pcs Watchmakers Tools" from Ali and used it to open the watch. Didn't care if I destroy it. I loosened the screws on the middle plate and put a drop of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab and cleaned the holes (pic almost related) that are holding the gear wheels. I tightened screws, let it dry, put 2 small balls of regenerated silica gel inside and closed the watch. I know it's not a WR 200 anymore, but I don't care. The watch has been working perfectly for two weeks now.
>>18544870The Polaris line is kind of a mess. There are divers, chronographs, travel watches, alarm watches and even perpetual calendars. Typical Richemont's strategy of product line extension.
>>18544883pretty cool
>>18544890Also unpopular opinion: JLC should relaunch the Albatros line.
>>18544890>The Polaris line is kind of a mess. It’s poorly marketed, like all JLCs, but it’s pretty cohesive, to be fair. They stopped marketing them as divers and scrapped some of the unpopular variants. The only remnants of the dive heritage is calling the alarm version Mariner, which is a callback to an older model anyway.>100m WR sports watch>42mm case, stubby lugs, thin bezel>pencil hands, 60s style dial with applied indices. Fume dials.>Available in all JLC’s typical complications Like, you can look at a Polaris now and recognize it as one from across the room, regardless of complication or material.

How much will rolex raise prices due to tariffs in the US?
>>18544970We don’t know because the tariffs change day-to-day. The expectation is that consumers have to eat a 10-15% hit.
Where is the line drawn for a watch to be considered a frankenwatch? If I replace the mainspring during a service, is it now a frankenwatch? If I source a donor movement of the exact same caliber and replace a broken stem with the donor stem, is that a frankenwatch? My collection is mostly vintage/neo-vintage and I've never really given it a second thought. Although, I do make an effort to maintain original parts as much as possible (for example, if I'm servicing an old oyster perpetual, I will source genuine rolex parts for that movement caliber/era). Can someone tell me what frankenwatch means. Does it refer to a mismatched case/crown and movement?
>>18544985My guess: if the replacement parts are the same OEM parts the manufacturer would use to repair the watch, it's not a frankenwatch. But if you're not planning to sell the watch, who cares? Just keep all the original bits in the box and change whatever you like.t. Swapping my speedmaster bezel through Omega service center soon
>>18544883Do you not have any watch stores near you to repair it for you?
>>18544985If a component is replaced with like-for-like (or, in the case of an obsolete part, the upgraded replacement that the OEM would install during a factory service) that is not a Franken.Even if you replace, say, a plexi crystal with a generic replacement, that’s still not a Franken, though you should be upfront about it.A Franken is when a bunch of loose parts are kit bashed together. They don’t start as a complete watch.Taking a complete watch and replacing a dial or bezel to turn it into a rarer/more desirable model is more like just forgery, but that’s only a problem if you try to sell it as the rare model.Back when getting spare Onega parts was really easy I turned my boring Speedmaster into a Mitsukoshi using factory parts. (When I sold it, I was honest about what I did and why I was selling a Mitsukoshi for normal SMP money. I also kept the original dial and hands.)
>>18544988That's my stance as well. All of my current watches I'll keep for the rest of my life. Once it's my watch, I'll do whatever I want to it. I recently sold a watch produced in 2020 and had a potential buyer ask if it was a frankenwatch and I wondered what this autism was. From my experience, Omega is all about doing what the customer wants. Those serviceman are lads
What was your first big boi watch? For me it was picrel. I bought it in store around 2010-2011 I think for 1200 euros. I just checked the price and now it's 2300 euros lmao
>>18544998that's a shitter, not a big boy watch.
>>18544999Sure, but it's still better than your Seiko mod, Ranjeet.
>>18544998ah yes the "I wish I could wear my kitchen clock as a watch" shitter
>>18544998A used and beat up Rolex 1601 Datejust. What a piece of shit it was. I got so lucky when I sold it, though, because it had a rivet bracelet that neither I nor the seller knew was more valuable than the watch itself. I ended up selling the bracelet and the watch separately, more than doubling my money. I used it to buy my Explorer II, which I’ve had to this day.

what's the manliest watch and why is it a marathon?
>>18544883>Sorry for posting Citizen, You guys are so brainwashed
>>18544997The swatch service center here seems to be very friendly and accommodating, but to get through to them you have to deal with the boutique staff. The Dubai Mall Omega boutique staff are some of the worst retail employees I've ever interacted with, and this is over a 10 year period. I once went in to try on the Constellation Globemaster, and they asked "do you have a picture of it?" Blancpain is also swatch but their customer service is really good. It's specifically Omega. They refused to accept that different bezels for the speedmaster even exist, they thought I wanted a part from another watch.

>>18545467The servicechads called and said it's possible and to bring the watch in. Boutiquecels seething. The watch is going for service as well so I'll post a pic in 6-7 weeks. I'll be seikomaxxing during that time.

New version of the JLC Master Control Calendar.Looks nice!
>>18545595It does. It’s just a dial variant?
>>18545596Yes. Limited to 500 units.
>>18545133pretty sure thats a cartier

>>18545633Same. I like the Arabic numerals better than the dart indices.
Can I get an opinion?Does this strap fit for this watch? I usually have it on a chunky brown pilot style. (I never wear it on the bracelet. Way too shiny.)
>>18545671Yeah looks nice. Cool watch too.

>>18546064Either that or they make them on demand. They use that movement in other watches, so it would just be a matter of producing the gold case.

What is the most beautiful Rolex Day-Date?I’m currently searching on the grey market and have narrowed it down to the following options:Yellow gold, white dial, gold sticks - unfortunately apparently only available in 36mm, and desu for many men that’s a bit of the penny-pincher/cope-size these days.Yellow gold, black dial, white sticks - 40mm - pretty good, but the contrast feels a bit harsh.Yellow gold, white dial, gold Roman numerals - 40mm - very beautiful and harmonious, but almost a bit too retiree.Everose, olive green dial, gold Roman numerals - 40mm - really really nice. So far I find the least to criticize; only possible downside is that one might eventually get tired of it since it’s not as universal as a white or black dial? The green dials for yellow gold are a bit too flashy for me, and silver or gold dials and everything with diamonds feel a bit over the top.Platinum with an ice-blue dial is of course incredibly cool, but completely disproportionate in price. Maybe someday in the distant future.
>>18546327The metal depends on your skin tone. I think the Everrose with the Slate Ombré dial is very good looking, but I’m too white to wear it.For me, it would be the white gold with meteorite dial.
>>18546145neat idea but the shapes are objectively bad design.
>>18545060Basically the same system Lip and Timex used.Except they're even more annoying to find so eh, I'm not really looking for them.

>>18545544I like it.
>gf borrows Reverso for a day>it now has a huge scratch on the side of the caseWhy are women like this?
>>18546631Because men’s work traditionally involves working with your hands, it becomes second nature to take your watch, wedding ring, etc off before doing anything. Women don’t have that habit, so they’ll do whatever with whatever they’re wearing.
>>18546631This is 100% your fault. You should have given her a $10 chinese clone that she can fuck around with instead of letting her use your stuff. They are like children and will make disasters out of everything if they're left unsupervised for too long

>>18546916Vario has made one of the most hilarious watch I can think of. The Versa. It's a Reverso Duoface cope with 2 quartz movements in a 26 x 40 x 18mm case (18mm is the thickness).
>>18547005At least they don't just do Sub Clone #2355
>>18547015Sub Clone #2355 would be better than a 18mm thick dress watch.
>>18547042No, it wouldn't. Clones are quite literally completely worthless. Also, I was asking about a watch with 10mm thickness.
>>18546916Not, Don’t buy microshitters, no matter how vintage inspired value they deliver straight to the enthusiast by cutting out the middleman.
>>18547175Who's the middleman, and what should I buy if I want precisely that exact watch but don't want to cut them out?
>>18547175Let's assume I have $30k to spare (cause I do) and want a <41mm watch with a dial twisted by 2h, no other complications, and a pocket watch look. What would you recommend?Cause from where I'm standing, I got the feeling that what I want isn't offered by anyone else at any price point.
>>18547182Vacheron American?Or you could buy the real thing and actually buy a vintage trench watch, then pay to have it restored.
>>18547188I've looked at VA of course and didn't like the style. Also, please explain to me why trying to acquire a watch from 110 years ago, rebuilding it at my own cost and dealing with the risk involved would be better than buying a new watch in the style I like with 2 years warranty for 300€?Cause the math ain't mathing in my head.
>>18546916Looks like silly steampunk shit. Do you wear a top hat with a bunch of gears glued to it?
>>18547182RGM Watches in Lancaster PA offers one with a couple dial variants I've been considering buying, and they're way cheaper than that. A lot of people will say get the VC American because of the brand name and you can afford it, but if you're someone that already has watches from big brands like Rolex and Omega and you'd like something a little less NPC in your collection maybe something like that could be a cool choice.

>>18547229Good advice, just for the satisfaction of seeing that OP doesn't actually have 5 figures to spare for this watch and he wanted the microshitter all along>uuuh actually it's not worth it the value just isn't there.....
>>18546916>>18547229These watches (including the VC American) are ugly, stupid and larpy-tier.
>>18547573It does. They had so many interesting designs in the 70s through the 90s. Their catalog is relatively boring now. Just like every other HH brand.>”Traditional” dress watch that is still 40mm across for some reason >A hundred variations on their integrated bracelet sports watch >A few incredibly complicated showpiece watches that no one will ever wear, that buyers bought as investments
>>18547577What are they larping?
>>18547752>What are they larping?Muh 1920s bourgeois gentleman faggot with a frock coat and a top hat. These watches take the retro vibe way too far to the point they look like props for a Sherlock Holmes movie. It's not just the tilted dial, but also the cathedral/Breguet hands, the font, the case design, the small seconds... All of these design elements combined in one watch are way too much. People will call you "that Peaky Blinders nigga" for wearing it. Do you want to be known as the guy with a weird watch? I don't.btw the Vacheron American 1921 is what plebs and pajeets picture as "class" and "old money". Avoid that shit at all costs.
>>18547820I would unironically wear it with a t-shirt while watching the footy game with a case of cold ones.
>>18547825This is the funniest thing to me about seeing people talk about dress watches and classic watchmaking, people make such a big deal over what the rest of your fit is going to look like with your watch and whether or not it's going to go but it's really not a big deal at all. You don't have to wear a wetsuit with your dive watch so why do you need a suit and tie to wear a dress watch? It's fucking retarded. There's nothing better than wearing a nice little gold watch light sweater and having coffee with the family during the holiday season. I'll wear a gold watch with denim pants and jacket just to go out to dinner with my wife at a pub, I don't give a fuck. If the watch suits you and you're not a little bitch there's nothing to be insecure about.
>>18547845Galactic-level chad in the thread.

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!!!Wow! We've got a bad boy over here!Nigga, people have been wearing dress watches with jeans and dive watches with suits for over 70 years now. There's a famous pic of Muhammad Ali wearing a Cartier Tank with a t-shirt. Delon was wearing a Tank with denim jackets. JFK was wearing an Omega Tank while sailing. The Beatles were wearing complicated gold Patek while taking LSD in India. It's not even a celebrity thing, every boomer were doing it in the 70s. Same with wearing a Sub with a suit, it's a 1960s thing lmao
>>18547893I don't know why you'd think I'd disagree with that. I'm talking to people who don't know this shit but always show up everywhere here and on other forums and in all honesty probably don't even own a luxury watch and just larp online about it.
>>18547845the greatest reddit cope is the guy with 5 black dial dive watches saying he can't justify a dress watch because he never wears suitsno one wears suits anymore the people shopping at PP nowadays do so in very expensive italian silk tracksuits
The upcoming purple-dial 37mm Grand Seiko UFA is calling my name. I've been waiting for spring drive under 40mm and it's finally here. The dial looks warlock-certified. All the other spring drive watches have too much negative space and look empty to me because of the oversized diameter. The question is, if I had the UFA would I still wear my speedmaster? Usually deciding which watch to wear is very straightforward, but a steel chrono and a steel GS have overlapping use-cases imo.
>>18547912Anon it's 2025, the era of meme brands is over. Don't fall for the Grand Soiko meme.
>>18547971With smaller spring drive watches on the horizon it seems like the era of GS has only just begun.
>>18547985People don't want spring drive. Or Grand Seiko in general. Only a handful of very vocal redditors find GS cool and interesting. In the real world more and more stores stop carrying the brand and the watches take a massive hit on the second hand market.
>>18547990GS was interesting when it was an unknown hipster brand that you couldn’t get outside of Japan.>They’re like Rolex quality, man, but the Japanese keep them for themselves because the rest of the world can’t appreciate them. Then as soon as they show up in the market, people quickly lose interest, while the hipsters try to pull the same trick with Credor.>It’s like the Japanese…uh…Chopard?GS, these days, is propped up entirely by paid reviews on YouTube.
