Winter is coming. Long coat thread.
What does /fa/ think about buying military surplus wool great coasts and having them tailored to be more fashionable? Anyone try this, or have any experience here?
>>18545429>think about buying military surplus wool great coastsGreat, love it>having them tailored to be more fashionableDon't you fucking dare
>>18545429Get a stripped down imperial frock coat.
>>18545429Getting it tailored is ultra mega gay just wear it as is that’s what I do with my Swiss wool great coat
>>18545424I bought one of these ww2 era marine corp greatcoats last year and finally the time has come around to wear it
What’s the difference between a greatcoat and an officer’s coat or a deckcoat?
>>18545429At that point just buy a civilian overcoat. It will cost you around as much unless you are buying the goofier looking east bloc surplus>>18545912The great coat is designed to be worn over a military tunic. So it will be very big on you unless you wear a jacket or chunky jumper underneath. They are generally unlined or only partly lined for enlisted men. This simplifies construction. Officers often had lined ones but these were custom made from standard patterns. If you are buying milsurp you are almost definitely buying a coat intended for enlisted men. The better enlisted ones have half or quarter(ish) lining. Generally cotton or rayon lining. The worse ones (older Russian coats) have weird lining that covers the area around the sleeves but not much of the back. The deckcoat is designed for actual human beings with rights and dignity (officers) and not the useful vermin so it is more likely to be lined. Enlisted men in the navy do not wear deckcoats but rather peacoats because it's difficult to do chores in a long coat. The deck coat fits like a peacoat but is longer. Also British guards overcoats are shit and unlined. They also come in way to much at the waist for civilian wear as they are designed to be worn with a belt at the waist.
>>18546140So is a deckcoat just a longer peacoat?
>>18546140>>18546148I’m actually thinking of a bridge coat not a deck coat.
>>18545424Fuck... i hate being brown. i can't wear this stuff...
>>18546445yes you can and it would make you feel better about yourself too
>>18546450he might be from a brownoid country where the climate doesn't allow for that type of jacket to be worn any part of the year. Its the same in my brownoid state.
>>18546445Sure you can bro, fuck it
>>18546445White/Western cultural stuff is the only stuff that is completely universal. Anybody can wear a long greatcoat like anyone can wear pants and watches or drive cars. You’re welcome for those btw.
tfw i'd probably get my ass beat if i worse something like this in my low socio economic area
Thoughts on mine?
>>18545465To clarify, I wouldn't be tailoring it to drastically change the fit, or overall feel of it. It's just that typically, a lot of that stuff was produced to fit a wide range of conscripts, so it's all a bit baggy and oversized. I'm a tall thin dude. I wouldn't take it down to a slim fashionable fit or any bullshit like that.I also have an old pair of Belgian surplus wool pants from the 60s that I usually take hiking, these need to be tailored as well. The legs are too loose and billowy, but they also don't reach anywhere close to my ankles.>>18546445Why the fuck not? You can probably more easily get away with styling it less traditionally without looking like a fucking try hard. >>18546728Pretty easy to fit a CCW under coats like this, just fyi.
thoughts? going for a neo-folk wizard look
>>18546445why wouldnt you be able to wear this? literally every single country on the planet has adopted the suit and people of all ethnicities can look good in that so whats stopping you from wearing the winter version of a suit?
>>18547396ain't no ccw nor open in my country
>>18546960the one in the middle and the one on the right is really nice, but the hugo boss on the left is shit
>>18545424I have a Gloverall duffle coat and Zegna cashmere coat to wear over suits but I've been curse to live in a hot as fuck country for another year so they'll be sitting in the closet. The duffle coat was great when it would be dumping snow or very windy. You could easily overheat in that thing. The cashmere one is definitely nice, but it was mostly just for those days where I had to be formal at work and wouldn't be walking too far.
pic related is mine from APC. Got it second hand for 90 bucks and it's 100% wool unlike their current coats>>18546960ID on the black coat?
Recommendations for where to buy long coats?Want to get something with a bit of pattern to it
>>18547477Where do you plan on wearing this?
I have this coat for winter but it looks too classy and normal for certain environments like when I'm up in da club or going to a squat rave. Are there any coats that look somewhat similar but have hints of more modern and 'edgy' design elements?
>>18545424I have a black Burberry trench, a long one that goes down to below my knees that I usually put on at work over my uniform.I really like it and would like to use it outside of that context, any advice on how to do so?
>>18547811I can't imagine any kind of overcoat or formal outwear looking appropriate in a club or rave, unless you're wearing a leather trench to a goth space.
>>18547797Next years pride parade
>>18546450>>18546504>>18546726>>18547396>>18547486Thanks guys. I was just in a bad mood when I posted that. I have a military surplus wool coat i wore last winter in chicago. too bad it wasn't that cold but i always enjoyed wearing it.
>>18547811Any wool top coat with a different lapel/collar and no sleeve buttons would look more casual
g
>>18547668It's more of a dark green, img compression messed it up.I got it for 60 pounds in a vintage shop.>>18547636I like the boss oneIt was a gift from my mom, cashmere and allThe one on the right I got from my grandfather, Mongolian wool, probably a USSR import
Where can I find a long duffle coat? Gloveralls don't go past the knee
>>18547396I respect that you seem to know your shit, but I can't get past my preservationist stance that milsurp, especially historical, should be left as-is
>>18546960Slay
>>18545424how to wear one of these without looking like an out of place larper?
>>18547477where to cop coat?
ordered the bronson m51 parka, hopefully its sick
I am a swamp jew, always on my grandma bike, can I wear a long coat, or will it get stuck in my wheel ?
can't, i drive
>>18548587Why do you use a womens bike?
>>18547960
>>18548201I can't tell whether you're calling my wardrobe gay or if that's a genuine compliment coming from /fa/.

>>18545424Winter is actually ending here, but this coat I bought at the start has been really comfy - I’be never really worn brown/chocolate before but I figured id step outside my comfort zone a bit and try it.
>>18548999Trips checked
>>18548999Alain Delon could rock this. most people look like inspector gadget with those on
>>18549005All they need is a funny mustache
>>18549001that coat looks great. id?
>>18549016By a brand called Yd. They do men’s fashion - it’s the chocolate blakehurst wool duster
>>18549025oh you’re an Aussie, you’re a bogan.
>>18549029Unfortunately yes
>>18549029those myriad security cameras in the background should've been a dead giveway
>>18549001Aussies are not welcome on this board
>>18549095hold it there rajesh, let's not forget your place shall we?
>>18548587Nothing will happen>>18548653Because they‘re cheaper, durable and comfortable. You only really see sports cyclists or foreigners protecting their masculinity here riding those mountain bikes lol
>>18549438I'm not talking about mountain bikes or anything. The only reason women's bikes are women's is because the bar is low so they don't flip their skirt getting on.As a man you don't need that, and you can change the seat however you'd like, if you find the women's more comfortable.I'm just saying you don't see men riding these bikes for the same reason you don't see them wearing skirts. It's not "fragile masculinity" or whatever the retards call it.No one is saying you can't, but it wasn't designed for you and you just look better not doing so.
