You have to be attractive and young to have a similar style. But if you have long hair already, those are required too. I'm guessing you already look bad and doing this would make you more quirky and wouldn't make you look too much worse.

And the ones who don't, it's more that long hair simply isn't their taste, which is fine. The issue is that most men don't give a shit and don't take care of it properly. A lot of men in general don't take good care of their appearance, and this becomes especially true for hair because most men have short hair, where you can get away with just rubbing a bar of soap across your head and call it a day, and so never bothered learning. The other big thing is that long hair is an absolute non-starter if you're thinning. The weight of the hair and the fact that it goes down will make thinness all the more apparent. If your hair is thinning, a medium length cut masks it best, while short and long hair will make it obvious. I don't know how to braid, but sometimes girls like to braid my hair similar to OP's pic
