this, idgaf what anyone else says, does the job well enough and is far easier to use than a traditional razor
>>
>>18549136
I prefer a plastic razor. They're popular for a reason. They're easy to use, they don't cut or nick you unless you're shaving like a retard, and there's next to no burning and irritation after a shave (unlike with safety razors).

DE is good for people who need hobbies, or people who never learned to shave properly and are having bad results with cartridges (this is actually a pretty high % of consumers hence why everyone acts like DE is a miracle because it's the first time they ever put effort into shaving because if you don't you'll really regret it with DE)

Also can be a money saver but in practice, everyone says this and then spends $500 on brushes and creams made in england and shit.

Usually the story arc is you get bored of it, and you try a cartridge, and you realize the problem with cartridges was you all along.

I bought a merkur for $35 in 2007 and have been using it since. go through about $3 worth of blades per year.

the best safety razor are those vintage gilette adjustable slims. you can get them for $30-50 in good condition on ebay and they will out-live you. because it is adjustable you don't have to fuck around with buying the wrong razor handle with the wrong attack angle for your skin/hair and wasting money or making a gay ass "hobby" out of this.

no.
the only thing wrong with DE is redditors and marketing/shills.
all you need to do to not make a gay ass reddit collecting/hoarding "hobby" out of DE's:
- buy an adjustable handle.
- buy a sampler pack of blades.
- get an unscented soap so there is no chance of the aromatics irritating your skin. you still have some trial and error like tallow vs veg based and finding a soap with a formulation that doesn't overly dry your skin or leave it all oily. just try a new one each time the old one runs out and it will cost you $0 to experiment with soaps unless you get one that's unusable. if you get one like that it's cheap anyways.
- spend 5mins reading about the difference between silvertip badger vs boar vs synthetic and make an informed guess which one you should get based on your skin and facial hair type. if you guess wrong they are cheap anyways.
you can get a vintage gilette adjustable slim + synthetic brush + sampler pack of blades + full size pack of blade + dish of fancy unscented tallow soap for under $100 and be done with it forever. costs me $5 a year to get amazing shaves. gillete disposables cost $5-10 per week for garbage shaves.
still using the same razor i bought 20yrs ago in high school.
>>
>>18549226
I never understood buying soaps, I only shave in the shower and that's enough to soften the skin and get really close shaves, I also exfoliate in the same step so I don't bother with skincare anymore.
>>
>>18549226
>gillete disposables cost $5-10 per week
Do you change a cartridge head twice a week? You're not supposed to change it that often
>>
>>18549229
You're supposed to change them out when the indicator bar disappears.

>They're popular for a reason.
?????????
yes they are but not the reason you think. cartridge razors never replaced safety razors due to consumers choosing them over safety razors. rather the exact opposite is what happened.
cartridges only became popular because between the 1970's and 2000's safety razors and refills for them were pulled from store shelves to promote sales of much more profitable -- and most importantly patented cartridge razors.
for around 30yrs you couldn't buy the things outside of vintage stores and even if you did good luck getting blades for it. ask any boomer who grew up shaving with a safety razor why they switched. none of them switched by choice. none of them liked cartridges. de refill blades became hard to find and cartridge razor handles were given out for basically free -- for your first hit, just like a drug dealer.
they teach this stuff in 101 level marketing/business classes usually. its called the gilette model or the razors and blades model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razor_and_blades_model
this business practice is also seen in: printers, costco chicken/hotdogs/pizza/etc, older video game consoles, nespresso/keureg coffee machines etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_leader

anyone with coarse or wiry hair gets 3 shaves max out of the 5 blades and maybe 5 tops from the 3 blades.
literally one or two cartridge refill costs the same as an entire year of closer, better shaves dialed in exactly to the max closeness i can go and still speed shave with zero irritation using my DE.

You have to start to wonder if these same threads pushing consumerism and disposable products that keep getting made over and over again every week are really "organic" or if its a case of native advertising / marketing.
I work in digital marketing and it costs only around ~$1-3 per hour to hire fluent english speaking Indians or SEAmonkeys to shill. If you go through an agency, even cheaper if you are hiring direct. It would be dirt cheap, and probably very profitable to hire a jeet or two to shill all day on here. Ever notice how this same thread is made with the same brainless consumer replies telling you to buy cartridges every week? Ever notice how its always these huge publicly traded companies owned by the same small group of conglomerates that they're always pushing? Fast fashion, disposable razors, plastic jeans, clothes made in sweat shops that are priced too high etc.

that's because gilette literally owns art of shaving and the wickededge reddit board. they profit off of de shaving fags too. but if you skip the "hobbyist redditor funko pop collector" bullshit they peddle then they will profit a lot less from you. or potentially nothing if you buy blades from a brand that isn't owned by proctor & gamble.
here's the secret: gilette solved the double edge safety razor 75 years ago and mass produced so many adjustable slims and fatboys that there will never be a shortage of them. if there ever was, chinks make a serviceable equivalent for 10-20 dollars.
handle: buy adjustable and skip the BS
blades: sampler pack then buy the one you like forever. i will use cheap astra platinums for life.
soap: skip the gay ass scents (a major source of irritation) and just find a soap or tube cream that matches your skin's oilyness/dryness levels.
brush: just buy silvertip badger or a cheap synthetic for 90% of people. lasts forever.

i bought a $12 fake chinese merkur futur 20 years ago. the only other razor i have is a vintage gilette adjust/slim that i bought to leave at my gf's house and for travel. i use it for shaving my balls.

Good thinking. The only correct thinking. I hate wicked edge redditors and their stupid expensive hobby

the only razor for me is yellobic. anything with fantsy blades causes me to break out. i learned this about 12 years ago and have never looked back

Safety razor for my face and head, disposable razors for my pits and balls.
>>

I have used other people's razors and have smoked other people's pipes with no ill effects. Disinfectants exist you know, just get some Everclear or perfumer's alcohol and dip the razor in it.

>DE is good for people who need hobbies

No, it's good for people who need a good shave and don't want to pay for overpriced garbage from a company that made a literal "all white men are rapists" advert.
>>
>>18549235
>but you are getting ripped off because you are paying a huge proportional profit margin on a consumable
It's still cheaper, I don't care if the blade costs 1 cent to make and I pay 5 cents for it as opposed to a disposable razor which costs 10 cents to make and I pay 60 cents for.
>>
>>18549477
I assume you're referring to that short lived ad campaign from like 2010 where they implied men had a role in reducing sexual assault and the incels lost their minds, how the hell did you remember that let alone maintain the grudge for this long

So are you a kike or a jeet? We do have a role in reducing sexual assault, by physically assaulting you when you rape a child or a white woman.

I use a DE razor. bought a brush 10 years ago for $20, 100 blades for $25 or something 10 years ago. have not spent anything except generic proraso shaving cream since

i came a fair bit around an i got to say the contour rapes everything gillette came up with after.
My personal favorite is the merkur 37. rapes the futur, rapes all cartridges (the contour is close thou), rapes a cut throat

Buddy, you probably got a whole mess of other problems. Unless you mean you're a cocksucker and even then it's only okay if you're gay.

yeah, that’s why I use a DE razor but I still just buy cans of barbasol shaving cream
