Hi /fa/, new anon here. I just got 3 pairs of denim jeans and i'm now paranoid about maintaining their color. I know clothes fadr over time but i've been getting really anxious. I have an old pair of denims that i washed pretty regularly and it looks like ass now. How do i properly hand wash my jeans to keep them "ok" for the next couple of years
Always wash cold and on a gentle cycle, always hang dry. Natural indigo will fade quicker than synthetic, and it's unavoidable. You can wash them with Woolite Dark Defense to preserve the color, or if you're bougie you can get some special detergents that are designed specifically for jeans.
>>18554515for the wash you want delicate cycle, cold, low or no spin, and you want to make sure you put something else in with the jeans so they don't get twisted up. if they are dark indigo you might want to use old towels you don't mind getting stained. hang dry, always.if you want to be even more autistic use a soap that does not contain uv brighteners such as woolite anything with dark in the name. or even just a mild hand soap like dr bronners.if you want to be extra extra autistic, then hand wash in the bathtub or in a bucket with a washboard and air dry.
>>18554534>>18554544Thanks anons
Also always wash and hangdry inside out.
>>18554546why dry them inside out?
>>18554561To prevent the sun from fading the jeans. Assuming you're drying them under direct sunlight.
>>18554546true i left this out in my post. do this too op it leads to less marbling and fading.
>>18554986>marblingAn important thing to avoid marbling is to take out the jeans from the washing machine as soon as it's done. Do not let your jeans sit idle on the machine once the washing is over, take them out and hang them to dry properly stretched to prevent wrinkles.Marbling rarely looks good, moreso if your goal is to preserve the original color as much as possible. Even the sick fadez crowd mostly frown upon marbling.
>>18554699Wouldn't the sun fade them even if you walk outside with jeans?
jeans objectively look better faded and worn. you people are so fucking autistic
>>18555033not pre-faded jeans, caring for them autistically vs not can be the difference between 10 or 100 washes before they look bad. i agree though i don't take any of my own advice. i throw my selvedge jeans right in the laundry with normal detergent and towels and call it a day. sometimes even tumble dry it. sometimes i'll even add a cap of bleach.
>>18555031Yes, but to a lesser degree. When you're wearing them, there'll be shadows, you'll be inside sometimes, the sunlight doesn't hit your legs so directly... however, people who work outside on jeans will see them fade quickly than those who don't get as much exposure.Picrel is an example. Vintage shirts from boomers who worked outside and tucked in the shirt have this fade pattern.Again, synthetic indigo usually fades slower than natural. But in time all jeans will fade to some degree.>>18555033I prefer some jeans to stay dark an uniform for as long as possible, others I don't care so much. The perfect look for me is when the color lightens up a bit showing rich hues of dark blue with some minor lighter parts in the places where there's more wear.
>>18555091you have to take extra care with pre-distressed jeans too because all the artificial distressing thins the denim out in ways natural wear doesn't. i have a pair of pre-faded jeans that are so thin you can see light through the fabric if you hold it up to a window.
>>18555093I wash all my denim following the instructions posted in this thread, whether they're dark or light. I currently don't own any predistressed jeans, except for maybe one pair that I trifted, so I'm not sure if if came prefaded or it was due to previous use.
>>18554515First thing I do with new jeans is wash them at 90° then throw them in the dryer and from that point on will wash them on a short cycle at 30° and put them in the dryer on a short cycle. If your jeans can't handle that your machine is trash, your tapwater is trash, you wash them too often and/or you really have no idea how to wash clothes.
>>18555507>First thing I do with new jeans is wash them at 90°Lol they cant have a leather patch then>>18555062sometimes i'll even add a cap of bleachWhy?I only wear japanese selvage that i buy one wash. I use a semi low spin cycle on 40 degrees and a little bit of detergent. They fade slow and last long. But every time i have gotten lazy and washed them too hard or to warm they come out looking bad. I suppose cold hand wash would make them last a life time but why bother.
Is washing once a week good for maintaining color
When raw denim was popular i did the whole, don't wash you pants thing and wouldn't wash them for months. It was dumb. Just wash them whenever. I'm not sure what magic voodoo is meant to occur if you don't wash them "the fades are better" i don't believe it. I wash them whenever they smell
Wash them often. Uniform fades look the best, anything else looks juvenile.
>>18555507>turns everything into a soilennial slim fitnah.. ill pass.>>18555667>Why?one of the n&f store employees said they do it so i tried it out on some shitter jeans and liked the results. if you want that ocean blue color that pre-faded jeans have, before the denim's so thin its almost worn through, you kinda have to use bleach.pro gamer tip: all the high tier competitors on indigo invitational lightly bleaches their jeans before the final photos on the last wash. cee ar dee has a video on how he does it and why on his channel somewhere.>>18555744when to or when not to wash your jeans depends so much on climate/region. i feel like its stupid to tell anyone a blanket answer.when i lived by the equator it would be disgusting to not wash my jeans every week. when i'm living up north your jeans don't even slightly smell after months and they only need a wash if you spill something on them.
>>18555744genetics too, a lot of asian people have a gene that makes them not sweat.
