I'm boycotting this thread.
>>18558199Possibly, though I'd be tempted to wear the Holy Grail.>I hope you are all doing well. Don't drink too much, Hamiltonchad. Good luck for women, Credorchad. I hope your coffee stays piping hot and strong, Kofechad. I hope you find fulfillment in life, Bitterchad. >>18558203>the same retarded whining every time the /wt/ is renewedWe get it, being on time in style doesn't matter to a NEET.
>>18558223You're kind, Fren. How are you? What watch are you wearing today? >If I had a Day-Date in the collection, I'd wear it at the UN, of course. I don't know...haven't gotten there yet. Too many other watches to buy before this. My current Rolex is good enough; it's brilliant, holds time beautifully, and looks and wears awesome.
>>18558220You ever time anything with that chronograph? I notice it's running in the webm.
>>18558232I use 2 chronographs at work, so yes, I use it daily (as I daily the Grail). Sometimes it's paired with the 321, other times it's with other chronos in the collection. Do you have a chrono? Do you use it? I find them exceedingly useful, especially if you have to time something surreptitiously. >Yes, I like the vid with the chrono running. Then again, it's my only central-minutes-chronograph, so I'm gonna happily show it off.
They are installing my telemeter bezel.
>>18558237I almost got one on a Speedmaster 125, but never pulled the trigger. Do you think you'd use it, or is it for the symmetry? >I've been out of the loop. What watch are you installing the bezel on?
>>18558244I'm sure I'll have meme uses for it, considering I live in the fireworks capital of the world. I could use it during lightning storms as well. It's just for a bit of fun as opposed to the tachymeter which is useless to me. The symmetry is a nice bonus too. It's a Speedmaster Pro cal1861, my daily for the last 10 years.
>>18558254Definitely post a pic once it's installed, would be great to see it. I know some older models had it, but haven't seen it on an 1861 before. The cal. 1861 is absurdly reliable...my standard hesalite is my beater, though I've been putting the broad arrow through it's paces too. >sadly I can't read the damn thing if it's not reflecting something. That's probably why I haven't bought the new FOIS...illegible unless the light is good.Have a great thread, /wt/. Be excellent to each other!
>>18558257Yeah I love the hesalite, I'll post a before/after of the last time I polished it when I'm on my PC. The installation is being done by Omega and the watch is also getting a full service, so it'll be 3 weeks before I get it back.
>>18558220OmegaChad for /wt/ president
I just threw out most of my nato straps. They were all frayed, discolored, and smelled like a fresh bag of salt and vinegar chips even after a wash. I found some "premium" straps online that have stitching on the tips to prevent fraying, so I've got a couple of those coming. I guess I never really considered watch straps to be a consumable good, but they don't last more than 5-10 years of heavy use. Same for perlon, but they wear even quicker and have shittier hardware. From 14 straps down to 3 good ones.
where is black bay ceramic anon.
The magic of fossil fuels.
>>18558220way too big on that wrist
I tried on the JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar and I was really underwhelmed. The watch has no heft to it despite being rose gold. The dial is so textureless/flat it looks like garbage (same issue as Blancpain villerets). The little holes in the hands to see the danger zone indicator look really bad as well. Movement is also very underwhelming, its from IWC and minimally finished. Has anyone here tried a Czapek? How was it?
Just recieved this in the mail, stil waiting for a better strap.
>>18558369>where is black bay ceramic anon.Lightly tapped his watch against a door frame. The watch shattered and he jumped off a bridge in despair.

>>18559482thing is there'll be no affordable watchmakers in like 25 yearsall existing mechanical watches under $10k will be retrofitted with entirely machine made Powermatic-like disposable movements or discarded

What we thinking, Kommandostore just launched these guys.
>>18558199Lads. I have been blog posting here about what watch to buy with my $10k usd budget. I have decided to step away from a Rolex Submariner; mainly because I wouldnt wear it at work, because it would be a faux pas and because they are shit value. I have chalked it up to either an Omega Speedmaster 3861 or a Tudor Pelagos 39. The Omega is the drastically better watch, but I enjoy smaller, lighter watches with a lot of bracelet adjustability. Tough choice
>leave watches in storage for 1+ yearwill this damage it in any way when I just pick up and use them again?
>>18559787How old is the watch and when was it last serviced/ever serviced?
>>1855979210 years out of the box probably
>>18559785I was in a similar situation choosing between a BB 58 GMT or a Seamaster this year.Ended up buying the Tudor first and the Seamaster a couple months later.>Omega Speedmaster 3861Buy the hesalite, I know everyone says it scratches easier, but it really does have a more unique and better look in person and the engraved solid caseback is much cooler than the saphire caseback, it's not a particularly impressive movement to see anyways.Only other thing I'd recommend is to buy the regular Pelagos over the 39, it's a dive watch afterall and 200m water resistance seems like a compromise even if you don't dive, the blue dial has a really rich, beautiful color to it over the black.
>>18559793There shouldn’t be an issue, do you have the ability to give the thing a shake and get it going sometime in between those 12 months? That being said. It won’t be a problem with modern lubricants, old ones use to pool and lose their properties that make them great. If you are worried, get it serviced after the storage period >>18559797The 42mm Pelagos is 2big4me. I’m nearly 2m tall and 110kg, so I could pull it off. But since there is a small similar option, I’m going the smaller one. I’d always go for the hesalite, the reason I enjoy vintage watches so much is the domed acrylic crystals look so appealing
>>18559785Both are trashhttps://www.chrono24.com/chopard/alpine-eagle-large--id40232022.htm
>>18559769I think I like them
>>18559839>Both are trash>here's my walmart-tier royal oak knock off with the most retarded date window you've ever seen and a dial that looks like a puckered hypoxic asshole
>>18559839Why do you say both are shit? They are certainly not the upper tier. I really don’t like butterfly clasp or clasps with half links as the only method of adjustment, the watch you posted is nice, an IWC ingenieur, Cartier Santos, plenty from Credor and Grand Seiko don’t suit what I am chasing. I just had a squizz on a map, where I live is on the border of tropical/subtropical climate and where i frequently go out to work is pretty close to a desert. I like having a watch that I can really get the sizing to my preference. I’m not that worried about on the go adjustment, but something with a decent amount of micro adjustment will do.
>>18559785I've worn my 1861 (hesalite) every day for 10 years, even swam in the sea with it many times. It's a great watch, and if I wasn't so attached to it as the watch that carried me through so many life milestones, I'd get the 3861. From what I understand the case is totally identical but the movement is much better. Speedmasters also look good on many types of strap. When I got my 1861 it came in a huge box (size of a shoe box) with the bracelet, a nato, strap change tool, astronaut LARP velcro strap, a Speedmaster medallion, and a loupe. You can also order 4 alternative bezels from Omega: Telemeter mi, telemeter km, decimal, and pulsometer. Good luck explaining this to the boutique employees though. The watch looks big on paper (42mm), but it wears much smaller because the dial itself isn't that big due to the bezel. I have no issues with the bracelet, but I know that's a personal thing.See:>>18558371 when I last polished the hesalite. You need a small cloth and a tube of "polywatch" which you can buy for less than 10 USD.Lastly, the case design (specifically the lugs) is so good that you'll start seeing every other watch as boring. This is especially apparent when the speedmaster is on a dark strap, since that highlights the lugs. Good luck, if you're still unsure just wait a while, they'll still be selling Speedmasters in a month or two.
Curious what strangers here think about my collection. Fwiw I would be hard pressed to think of a single watch I'd sell first here. The only watches I really want are a Gen 1 planet ocean 42mm or a vintage gold constellation with arrow head markers and pie pan dial. Feel free to post some of your favorite watches you wear the most.
>>18559893Looks gr8, m8, i r8 8/8.Maybe consider getting a GMT of some sort for some variety.
>>18559899Lol, that takes me back. I barely travel at the moment so it wouldn't be of much use. Variety doesn't really interest me that much.
>>18559881I’m not too fussed on how a watch physically appears since I’ve got cinder blocks for hands, I’d say my wrist would be 8.5 inches. More after smaller because I genuinely enjoy how a smaller watch sits on my wrist
>>18558220Not a "grail" lol
>>18558227What's the difference between a Submariner and Seadiver?
>>18559969Seadweller is just a chunkier fatter version of the submariner because it's rated for 500m instead of 300m.Which is totally pointless because 90% of divers don't even go below 50m anyways and people who do dive deeper than that are using dive computers and not watches anymore.
>>18558199If you were speaking at the UN, chances are you come from a third world country and you are there to beg for money. Wearing a rolex would not change the fact that you rely on handouts

Got married, only know like 10 people I’d invite and 7 of them live in other countries. Wife has no friends. Invite whole extended family but half make excuses, don’t want to travel, don’t respond, etc. One friend finally gets married after years, and only me and one other friend show up, the other people at the wedding are all friends of his parents. The boomers really let us zoomzooms down by not keeping the extended family together. Don’t get me wrong I have close friends, but a handful of people doesn’t necessitate an entire wedding. Society pressures you to make a spectacle, but half the people will bail, and the rest will just scroll past your photos on Instagram without a thought. On topic, there isn’t ever an occasion in the life of a zoomzoom to wear a precious metal dress watch. You have to make your own occasions because nobody else will. I want an 1815 up/down just to wear to dinner with my wife. A Tuesday becomes special when you decide it is, the clink of glasses, the watch ticking down, the small rituals of folding napkins, pouring wine, lighting a candle. Nobody else cares, but that’s the point—you celebrate life on your own terms, even if the audience is just one other person. In the end, those tiny, self-made moments feel richer than any big wedding or crowded celebration ever could.
>>18560152Depends what value you put on the act of getting married, this typically comes from a cultural place. I grew up in a place with Australians, British/Irish, Greeks, Italians and Yugoslavs. Depending on the group, their weddings would be the biggest, most important day of their life, 200+ people, complete open bar, indoor fireworks and $1000+ wedding gifts being common. While I got married with just my wife and I despite myself having a tremendous amount of friends. I don’t really do many special things with my wife, I like to make ordinary things special with her. While I’m in a place financially where it probably won’t happen, a lot of the people i know, myself included didn’t really grow up with anything “special” since the town was a bit down and out. So in the absence of material things that some people would think are special, we made ordinary things special. I’ve adopted the same sort of outlook into my marriage
