I'll admit; I HATE "5-pocket" styled pants/shorts.As a man nearly 40-years-old, 6' 2" with a 34" waist and a 34" inseam, my muscular thighs and massive hands make those tiny pockets miserably frustrating to use and outright painful by modern standards. I actively avoid pants or shorts that sport that pocket design. I always, always prefer open pockets that run in similar angles to the leg. By the same token, I also hate "slim" fit and never thought the 70s "rock band" style of tight jeans from bands like Journey or the more recent spandex tight nonsense boys started wearing for no reason.If you buy pants, my stance on your "debate" is to get fit, wear a style that lets you actually USE your pockets, that lets you tuck in your shirt, and still feel comfortable when sitting down.
