Idk why anyone would buy amateur brands over actual legit brands and models.
It's like Norquain selling for Omega or IWC prices when they have no history or cred.

When you buy a vintage watch, when do you have it serviced?
>>
>>18561814
right after you buy it
>>
>>18561814
Depends if it just got serviced or not. A serious dealer will have it serviced before selling it. Always ask.
Also depends if it's time only (usually every 5 years) or has a complication (usually every 3 years).
Never buy a vintage chronograph btw.
>>
>>18561817

Fragile movements (especially from the 50s/60s). Many watchmakers hate servicing them and/or will do a sloppy job.

NEW THREAD WHEN!!??

Japanese watches make jewish "people" seethe because the jews have burrowed themselves in the swiss watchmaking distribution networks and can extract value from the goyim by being "authorized dealers." They have no problem degrading the quality of the watches made by their swiss hosts by encouraging and justifying the use of Chinese components. The retail price of the watch to stays the same or goes up, and their margins get fatter. Japanese watch manufacturers, on the other hand, have a much stricter MSRP control and heavily penalize "AD games". Furthermore, timekeeping innovations from companies like Citizen Watch Co. and Seiko Epson Corp. further shift the value proposition away from what jews like (((Ben Clymer))) have established as kosher, triggering immense backlash from jews ITT when anons post a Japanese watch.
>>
>>18561916
Also, I am looking at Longines because they seem the highest tier inside my price range. Are they generally well received in a dress setting?

>>
>>18561887
That's because a boutique in India called Ethos stocks their brand, they have stores all over the country. Jeets have a very high opinion of German manufacturing, so the idea of getting a mighty German watch at that price point is very exciting.
>>
>>18561940
I forgive you.
>>
>>18561916
Never heard of them and that sounds sketchy as fuck. You can't just lose the manufacturer's warranty, so if they claim that, then whatever they sell never had the warranty. Cause they're fakes.
>>
>>18561938
They're among the best selling Swiss watch brands.
>>
>>18561916

They get dinged for selling fake sunglasses or perfumes every now and then, though I’ve not heard of them selling fake watches specifically.
Still, probably not worth the risk.

>>
>>18562261
Unfortunately they are, since our economies have been artificially fucked up and destroyed for the next five hundred years and you know by whom.
>>
>>18562264
This is actually what economies have always been: tiny numbers of incredibly wealthy people, huge numbers of people on the edge of starvation and nothing in between.
The post-WW2 middle class was a blip, an aberration.
We’re going back to the “natural” state of things.
I get that there would be some sense of disappointment in people who thought they were in one group and ended up in the other group but there’s nothing that can be done.
The system is not designed to allow more people in to the rich group.
>>
>>18562273
Yes, accurate. But that’s not “the system”. It’s planned by a small group of evil actors. This is so blatantly obvious I don’t even know why I care to point it out.
>>
>>18562264
>Unfortunately they are
The median salary in India is 6k eurobucks per year.
It's 75k eurobucks in the US and 87k in Switzerland.
I wouldn't worry too much about the jeets buying all the Patek.
>>
>>18562273
There is nothing natural about the economy.
The rules are entirely made up, money is backed by nothing but the belief in its value.
>>
>>18562314
Is it actually any better than when it was backed by gold? What do you use gold for in your day to day life that makes it valuable to you? If people decided gold ain't shit tomorrow would your life be effected?
>>
>>18562300
Belief in a small group of evil actors is a lie fed to the poor by the rich in order to keep the poor focused on a fake enemy.
The poor willingly serve the rich if they think that it’s in an effort to defeat a made-up enemy.
Even if, hypothetically, one enemy was defeated, it would just so happen that “the conspiracy goes even deeper and the enemy was working for THE REAL ENEMY!!” and the cycle starts again.

>>18562314
There will always be rich and poor. Start over from zero and you’ll have people who are lucky enough to live on fertile land and others who live on poor land. The first group will be happy to hand over some of their excess food…for a price.
>>
>>18561452

They're okay I guess but I have a negative bias against them because a while ago the trends among retards was to put their dress watch on a NATO.
>>
>>18562328
Have you ever read a single book of Marxist theory? Or even socialist theory? A socialist country with a centralized national bank will have a population where every single person is rich enough to have large purchase and at least decent investment power. This is Switzerland, Denmark, Japan, China and a few others. A country ruled by people who do not want this will have a population mostly made of poors. Economy is entirely made up and there is nothing natural or automatic or inevitable about it. The only natural and inevitable thing is that there are rich and poors among humans, but this is affirmable merely on a historic and existentialist point of view, which is irrelevant. Read Graeber’s Debt, especially if you’re a burgermutt who shitted his pants at the mere sight of “Marxist” and “socialist”, without obviously having the faintest idea what those words mean.
>>
>>18562369
Funny how people who are pro-socialism only cite countries with high IQ homogeneous white or asian populations when they advocate for it.

>Unleash the artistry of metalwork with a one-of-a-kind MR-G timepiece crafted with a unique hand-forged hammertone pattern and state-of-the-art metals.
>The striking, limited-edition MRGB5000HT stands above, a veritable master class in metal craftsmanship. Each timepiece features a bezel and bracelet that are individually hand-hammered in a unique relief pattern by a master of the traditional tsuiki* hammering technique. The result is a stunningly rugged and original textural appearance.
>The bezel and bracelet feature unique relief patterns realized with the traditional tsuiki hammering technique. In the world of tsuiki craftsmanship, the art lies in executing a pattern that is neither too regular, nor too chaotic — finding an organic rhythm that achieves the perfect balance for a unique and artistic finish, no two pieces exactly alike.
>Each timepiece is hand-hammered by master tsuiki artisan Kazuya Watanabe, whose “fluctuating” yuragi hammering technique creates a powerful texture that is both impactful and satisfying. His subtle and exacting skill delivers a look and feel that cannot be replicated by machine.
>The bezel and bracelet are not only beautifully textured with tsuiki, but also made with DAT55G, a special alloy that is three times harder than pure titanium.
>* Tsuiki (literally, to shape with a hammer) is a traditional Japanese hammering technique used to shape metal. Different hammer blows and varying degrees of force are applied to create unique textured patterns that evoke the kind of warmth and individuality that only handcraftsmanship can achieve, with no two pieces the same. Used since ancient times to produce tea sets and ornaments, tsuiki is still regarded as a symbol of high art and sophisticated crafts in Japan today

Prestige pricing plus the cost of hiring some specific craftsman.

With things like ALS or PP or whatever, the quality of the finish is what you’re paying for. You don’t care who actually does it. One ALS employee is as good as the next.

With the Japanese, they are pointing to a very specific craftsman who is doing the job. The technique is what it is, but the guy doing it is what you’re paying extra for.

That’s a good analogy, ice cream. It’s vanilla, but it’s also as good as vanilla gets. Only natural ingredients, no weird preservatives.
Other brands may offer wild flavors, but will also include trash chemicals; or they’ll taste good at first…but have a bad aftertaste.
If you want something the same quality, but a more interesting flavor, you have to pay more.

Plus, a lot of people actually like vanilla.

Friendly reminder that Rolexes are collected, worn and recommended by the most skilled watchmakers like Philippe Dufour, Roger Smith, George Daniels, Max Büsser or RexhepRexhepi. Even FP Journe, the most bitter man alive, said he was impressed by Rolex' escapement.

They're also the people who sell watches, and Rolex famously has much bigger margins than any other brand.
They use their production scale and streamlined processes to make $3k watches in the same quality other brands can only manage at a $6k price point, then sell them for $10k. The AD's and service centers get a fat cut too, so they're motivated to shill Rolex everywhere.

In theory, I agree. I would like to see what others own. I’m sure there are some interesting things out there.
However, on balance, it’s just not worth it. That just leads to an avatarfagging circlejerk once anonymity is removed.
Take >>18564271 for example. He’s been seething over a poster who hasn’t been seen in THREE YEARS. Anons posting their watches actually turned him into an imbicile.

eBay isn’t actually that bad. In the US they have an authenticity guarantee which, while not perfect, is good for catching 95% of fakes.
No place is ever going to be 100% perfect, though, because scammers have too much incentive to steal.

As always: vet the seller, make sure to ask tons of questions extensively research the model you want, and never feel bad about walking away from a deal at any point if something doesn’t feel right.
>>
>>18564257
The lugs of the Reverso are so intrusive and unbalanced in relation to the dial, that the only way to make it look nice is to make it smaller and smaller, and that isn’t even small enough to make it look good on the average wrist.

I think this is what the complaint is really about. Some anon can’t help but think his sterile Temu watch looks cheap because there’s no name on the dial. So instead of accepting that his watch is cheap, he’s decided to go to war against the concept of branding. There’s no possible way you can, in good faith, think that a Patek Calatrava or Cartier Tank has too much branding on it.

If that’s what the people wanted, that’s what the companies would make.

People say they want shit all the time, but they always prove that they’re liars when it comes to what they’re actually willing to spend money on.

People say they want simple, lightweight sports cars. Companies make them, no one buys them. They buy SUVs instead. So the companies discontinue the sports cars and the people complain.

Unfortunately second hand purchases 10 years down the line do not refinance the development of a new car.

What's the best brand from China? If they regulate their movements that's a plus
>>
>>18565152
Seagull
>>
>>18565152
>If they regulate their movements that's a plus

You’re confusing regulation with adjustment. Regulating a movement is easy. Everyone does it, even the Chinese. But that only means it’s regulated in one position and at one state of wind. (e.g. fully wound, lying on its back.)
If you’re in any other position or state of wind, you’re out of luck.

Adjustment is more time consuming and difficult but it ensures that your watch will be as accurate as possible in as many positions as possible.

This is why you see guys first check the accuracy by winding up their watch, putting it on a timegrapher and being overjoyed
>My cheap NH35 watch is +1 spd!
But then once they start wearing it, the accuracy goes all over the place and they worry that they’ve bumped it or magnetized it or something.

Yeah I understand that, but these parts are just so bad that the problem can only be fixed by sizing down the whole watch. You should never prolong the edges of the case up and down when the dial is already a vertical rectangle. It makes the watch look like dogshit. That’s why the Tank is the preferred version of the high-end dress watch and always will be. The Reverso can be fixed and finally look good only if you make it WAY smaller, so that the case with those ridiculous edges won’t appear like a brick or, worse, like a log of shit (picca relata).

That, and the fact that the name Cartier is a byword for style and JLC is primarily known as being a movement manufacturer that occasionally makes odd watches.
>>
>>18565357
>The Reverso can be fixed and finally look good only if you make it WAY smaller,
The good thing is JLC makes the Reverso in a number of sizes. (It’s not perfect, of course, not enough styles are available in a wide range of styles but credit them for trying.)
Cartier does the same with its watches. Rolex does with the OP.
The consumers should encourage the companies to give buyers the option to buy a watch that fits their wrist.

Unfortunately, there’s no real way to stop people from buying a watch that’s too big for them. Shaming them after the fact is unlikely to work either since they’ll just dig in.

Yes and no. A steel, quartz Tank is pretty lame as are those nasty automatic ones like the Française.
But yeah, a classic gold Tank or one of the cool variants, or even the other shapes like the Tonneau or Santos-Dumont are very cool.

It’s how you wear it that matters. You can always tell when someone actually wears their dress watches regularly vs someone who’s uncomfortable wearing them.
