I wouldn't say 99% of leather products are bonded leather but generally if something is suspiciously cheap it's probably for a reason, like $50 for a leather jacket is not happening for example. At $600 I'd expect an actual animal hide though, it's on the low end for leather jackets but way too expensive for fake leather.

If you're wearing them "properly", the waist area is going to be covered by a sport coat, suit jacket or sweater. You want the shirt to be loose so you can have completely freedom of movement (lift your arms above your head, turn your torso, etc) without your shirt being pulled up out of your pants or being tight.
