/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - WHITE'S ROPERS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

What boots for winter?
>>
Bros, today was the first day of the season that I was able to wear by boots. I wore Alden Indys out and it felt incredible to wear them again because of how comfy they are and how good I feel wearing my boots
I suffer in Texas where it doesn't start to get chilly at all until late Oct/early Nov
Before that it is simply too hot to wear boots
>>
>>18578508
retard holy shit
>>
>>18578271
These were Frye engineers, back when Frye was an actually good American boot brand. Now they just make junk overseas with foam and synthetics
>>
>>18578609

>>

>>
>>18578617
i lived in upstate new york when i was in grad school and i absolutely loved the weather. i miss the cold so much. only a couple months of actual hot and the rest is comfy jacket and boot weather
only thing i hated was the people and ticks, my dog got lyme disease from one
>>
>>18578617
All I want is for the seasons to change regularly, anon, not one or the other.
>>
>>18578621
yeah i miss living in a place with 4 seasons. where i am now it's just 2: blazing hot summer or cold winter with a week or two of comfy weather in between
>>
>>18578623
Same here. To make it worse this year summaer has been very hot and very long. Up until last week I was walking outside in a tee shirt. Only now I could reasonably wear boots and a fucking denim jacket.

Where can I get some thick socks for winter? Cotton or wool, don’t really matter to me.
>>
>>18578693
Never cotton for winter, wool nylon blend is ideal.
>>
>>18578698
I don't want plastic extracted from muslim holes to touch my precious white feet.

My local army surplus stores sell chunky full wool socks that go all the way up the calf for 5 eurodollars. If you don't care about looks it's a ridiculous bargain.

Yes, actually. If you want to be le edgy contrarian then come to my house, inspect my socks and explain to everyone why all my blend socks have holes and stretched weave while my all-cotton ones are still like new years later.

You're kind of shit out of luck if you're looking under 300 eurodollars, simply because the material cost (single piece leather upper, goodyear welt, vibram sole) is too high. Fracap is the closest to the 300 mark at 350, and is much better than Danner in terms of quality. Other brands that make similar looking boots are Meindl, Limmer and Hanwag. If you care about hiking and don't just want the look I'd recommend saving up and getting the real deal, or at the very least getting a pre owned pair. Otherwise crush on retro (chinese wokawhere brand) makes a danner replica with some pretty good specifications for just 135, which is insane value, but taking the risk is up to you.

should boots always be as tight as possible, or is some room okay?

my red wings are size 12 and they fit snugly and comfortably everywhere, but there is like maybe an inch of space in the toe. if i sell these and get 11.5 i'll get rid of the excess toe, but the rest of the boot is way tighter feeling and not as comfy.

what do i do?

and extra space in front of the toes is fine especially in boots with laces

>>
>>18579227
Your boot sounds like it fits fine, thinking your toe has to touch the tip of the toe is reddit nonsense.
The ball of your foot needs to be where the widest part of your boot is, that is the measurement you should look for.
>>
>>18579242
I second darn tough.

>>18579231
They look fine and will be preferred by normies over 99% of the’authentic’ stuff in this thread. That said at this price point anon may as well get blundstones unless he’s set on the more polished business casual look
>>
>>18579270
i feel like a size 12 makes my feet look huge though, which is why i try to wear smaller shoes. i have 11.5 in my chukkas which makes them fit tighter and i like that feeling, but it could just be brand differences as i have clarks

theyre coming back right now as part of the basedlennial reaction ive been speaking about. blundstone opened a shop in williamsburg a few years ago and all the basedlennial ex-hipster yuppies bought a pair and they wear them now with skinnies unironically as a geriatric protest against genz baggy sneakers and slippers fashion. they like pushing their babies in their strollers, wearing really gnarly red beards and asian wives as accessories, and blundstone boots and skinnies that makes their fupa bulge. it's honestly fucking disgusting but it adds to the fun of hanging out here bc on the other side you have extremely fashionable millenial women who are visibly disgusted by it as well
