Can we have another interior design thread? I'm getting a way smaller bed and will have space to remodel my room.
What's your layout? How do you save space? How do you deal with little sunlight getting into your room?

I would never place my bed against the wall, makes changing the sheets a pain in the ass.

The latter. My main consideration is just organizing my space, and most of the time I don't need a double bed which takes away more than double the space of the replacement (and the tall headrest blocks either my bookshelf or window).
>>18585452
I'm clearing out old furniture/trinkets/clothing and rearranging to be more comfortable and have more space. I like light colors and simplicity in furniture and decoration, which will be contrasted with lots of books and hiking equipment.

>What's your layout?
divide the living room in half with a Kallax, put the stuff where it fits. simple as.
>How do you save space?
Don't need to. I am living in council housing so I've got an entire house. There's an entire attic I don't use and a second bed chamber I barely use. It's a good life, except being unable to do renovations means I will never have a sitting pit.
When I was in student housing I saved space by putting closers next to the bed and entering from the front, using wall/vertical space for storage, and having multi use appliances and furniture. Above all, you need to declutter. Storage is secondary, if the room feels like it might have a bit too much stuff thats an indicator you already have way too much stuff.

What an ugly shelf, but at least you got a nice barbell to tone your ass for your boyfriend with.
But seriously, this room just feels too bare, it could use some baseboard, coving, fixing the lamp's base, maybe some wallpaper or at least a bit of color, and lastly brown parquet.
I like the plants as an idea but the ones you have are just ugly, made worse by the fact that that one in the middle is resting on some bricks. Come on man.

I’m ngl bros as a 30 something single guy I sometimes regret falling for curb appeal interior decor meme. I should’ve just spent all my money on a bigger plot of land and built a barndominum. I could’ve combined my kitchen, my dining room, my living room, and my garage all into one giant room and have been more than happy. Instead I bought a craftsman on an acre and I’m playing keeping up with the Joneses here like a kept husband even though I’m not even married.

I don't get the appeal of very period-specific homes. Like living in a victorian home or an MCM "masterpiece". Like it's very cool, yes. The craftsmanship is there, but do YOU really want to be the one living in it? Do you really want to slavishly match everything you own to that era? It's 2025. You have a 4K TV and use a smartphone. It just seems very inconvenient day to day, to have to commit to a LARP like that.

You don't have to. No one cares that you have a modern TV/stereo in an otherwise restored authentic Victorian home. It's just your autism overwhelming your brain because you noticed something that doesn't "fit" your notion of a Victorian house. MCM is super forgiving it's basically contemporary with how popular it is. I wouldn't even think twice about seeing contemporary items. Shit hotels have had mcm furniture in them for 70 years now.

I have no idea where to ask this and the only people I know to ask are people on 4chan, but do you guys know where I can get a decent L shaped sectional that's actually comfy and not just a design piece for a reasonable amount of money?
Just brands or stores to look at will suffice.
I am recently a bachelor and living on my own for the first time in 15 years and I have no idea where to look for any furniture pieces.
The only site with lots of options I've found is Wayfair but it seems like it might be the Temu equivalent of furniture.

Used furniture has basically no resale value, so do what the other anon said and get one from a thrift store e.g. Goodwill or Salvation Army.
Just make sure that it's leather or deep clean it + leave it outside for a few days before putting it in your house. Don't want bedbugs after all

Obviously don't listen to either of these weirdos. No one donates a good couch. The favorite spot(s) will be sunken in after years of use, and if it's leather it'll be stretched and wrinkled.
Unless you're in the market for a famous piece, like a named thing for multiple x, which you aren't, go to your local furniture place's showroom or Macy's to try them out. It's fine, it's a couch. For comfiness, you always need to break it in.
>>
>>18596251
>t's fine, it's a couch. For comfiness, you always need to break it in.
thats why I got the first one that meet my requirements for free from marketplace. Didn't feel like paying 3k for a fresher look in its first year.
>No one donates a good couch
Some people are rich enough that they do. Ironically its mostly poorfags that demand you still pay over half the new price for some fast fashion piece of trash that's already showing signs of wear and tear after 2 years.

>“Basically, you want a sofa strong enough to park a car on,” said upholstered-furniture manufacturer Grant Trick of Hickory, N.C.
>You could spend tens of thousands of dollars on what Mr. Trick called the gold standard: a sofa with a handmade, hardwood frame and glued-and-screwed, double-doweled joinery to support a system of hand-tied, hourglass-shaped springs stretching across the frame from front to back, side to side and diagonally.
Plywood was already the downgraded version

Two desks is fucking you up, but if it's a need, maximize the flow from the door to windows by clearing your walkway and create a designated "work space" by grouping the desks on the same side of the room.
>move both book shelves against the bottom wall with the doorway. If one is shorter it should be closer to the door so that visual height increases as you move away from the entrance.
>scoot your bed closer to the bottom wall, keep a small but comfortable walk space between the bed and the bookshelves
>move the non-built in desk to where the big bookshelf currently is against the window wall.

>How do you deal with little sunlight getting into your room?

This is a woe for those with windows facing South. My family's windows face East, and in summer, the hot summer Sun doesn't bother us at noon when we are in our apartment.

>>How do you save space?
I'm seriously thinking about buying a bunk or two-tier or three-tier bed so that our future children can have life space. I had to give up buying paper books because our apartment ran out of space for them. But we do not live in the USA, Canada, UK, the European Union, maybe this will make you a bit more happy.

>fungus gnat breeding ground
That's true, I've had small invasions of these fuckers whenever I put new soil into pots. What helps I've found is, whenever you plan to add potting soil, before using it you put it in an old baking dish, put some tinfoil on top, stab some holes into that with a fork and then bake the shit out of it in an oven at 200°C/390°F for about 20 minutes. Kills any eggs of fungus gnat inside

It doesn't look nice. It's not aesthetically pleasing. It's neat, it's clean, it's simple, but it's just not nice looking. I don't like it. It's made by someone with no imagination, with no desire to create something beautiful, with no effort. You couldn't pay me to live in a house with a kitchen like this. It wouldn't be depressing, but it would have a negative effect on my overall mood.

There is no fast fashion in couch market, wtf. Most couch bought last at least 10 years, as long as you don't you use it as wrestling ring or buy them on temu.
>>
>>18602616
fast fashion means they pump out low quality new designs constantly, so fast that the item you just bought is already outdated as soon as you leave the store

this is also the case with couches, there are plenty of furniture companies that pump out cheap, shitty furniture

I have made some basic furniture, like side tables and benches, but nothing in my flat is currently made or designed by me. It's all just random crap I've picked up, used/from my old job, and second-hand. So much great furniture is obscenely expensive, and unless you're absolutely balling out financially, it should probably be collected slowly over time.

Not that guy, but he's right. Us people who have sex think of their bed as a platform or stage. Relegating the bed to the corner means you use it for sleep and nothing else and want it out of the way.
>>
>>18604460

It's more that a bed is generally the most versatile and comfortable place for sex. So having half of it be up against a wall will limit some of its use. It's okay if you've got a really small room and that's how it has to be, but you definitely lose some functionality.

It's not rocket science. Go to a second hand store and look for nice old tables — and chairs obviously, but they're hard to draw — like a respatex or whatever for the kitchen. Get a shelf on the wall above it for cooking books and nice-looking kitchen stuff.
Only thing to get new is an L-shaped couch (Not grey!) at IKEA or something; you're probably young and should pary/not care that much (you won't have the sofa in ten years…)
Put some pictures/posters up on the wall, and get a comfy chair and a coffee table for the living section.
Don't cram a TV in there! Keep it in your bedroom or stored away if you've got one, and only take it out for special occasions and get-togethers.
Godspeed

Perfect Days conclusion according to you? I think on the surface it wants to make you think "oh you dont need a lot to be happy" which is the basic thinking. But in reality, it's a cope movie. He thinks he's happy with the simple life but he isn't. He's lonely, because when the woman is there in the park he feels like a special thing and then gets sad when she doesnt show up even though they're not even friends. Then his sister comes and tells us he left a good career to be an artist or whatever, and he cries when she leaves. We see his art in photography but he's still an elderly toilet cleaner. The message is he failed his "im gonna chase my dream" and regrets it even though he thinks he's happy with the poor life.
>>
>>18606529
I think you might be misreading his reactions to be fueled by regret. I didn't take the scene with his sister that he was shameful or regretful of anything but more sad that his own sister had this point of view and was giving him a hard time for doing something he had wanted to do. It's more a sense of betrayal than regret, is how I read it.

I don't think the upshot of the movie is about him, but about the person watching. At least for me, it made me evaluate my life and question whether I'm living how I truly want to be living.

>>

You shouldn't keep the mattress directly on the floor.
>>
>>18609279
Why
>>
I like the IDEA of plants all over my house, but the reality is that it just wouldn't be practical. I can't be bothered to run around the house watering them all every day. There's limited locations inside my house to put them, since I have a screened-in back porch and a wrap-around front porch that mean most areas of the downstairs are shaded, and most of the time I want to keep the blinds closed anyway.
>>
>>18609332
Plant life goes outside. It's that simple
>>
>>18609298
Not that anon, but there are several reasons. A mattress on the floor traps moisture under it, eventually staining and ruining the flooring. It is also easier for insects and arachnids to infest your mattress.
>>
>>18604530
>Sex and the City and other porn fantasies ruined an entire generation of people.
This may surprise you, but the bed was considered furniture for sex long before TV was even invented.
