Are merino wool socks actually good? I'm tired of buying dark socks and then having small black pieces on the ground all around my apartment. They just break after one wash. After researching for awhile everyone seems to be claiming that merino wool is the best and most durable stuff. Is it true?
Merino wool is good cause it gives you most of the advantages of wool without being scratchy. But durable it is not.However, if your socks only last one wash, they're shit no matter what they're made off. I have 10 year old cotton socks I still wear.

merino isn't really more durable in itself. the wool socks that last a long time are nylon blends, most of the strength is from the nylon, the wool is for comfort. the better wool socks will be pretty dense so it takes a long time for the wool to become threadbare.if you're prone to sweating wool feels way better than cotton.

>>18591481Yes, they're great, I bought "TEKO Merino LIGHT HIKING Socks Light Half Cushion 2.0" for hiking, they're pretty thick but turned out they're absolutely fantastic regardless of weather; I also bought thinner ones for everyday use and they're comfy and don't smell, don't knot about the durability because I got them 2 weeks ago but for their price (~$10) they're already great.

>>18591481Personally I only go with non synthetic fibers ie cotton wool hemp. My feet sweat too harshly with synthetic materials like acrylic nylon or polyester so catch me in the undergarments section reading the %material blend of socks I'm considering. Aside from microplastics synthetic fabric prevent sweat (moisture) from escaping the feet so in winter that condensation creates cold feet.Every packaging (even Wal-Mart) has the percentage of fibers used on the socks just look hard and it'll be listed somewhere on there.Smart to swap out insoles and bring an extra pair of socks to keep feet dry as possible.
I have wool socks from Mes Chausettes Rogues, Sozzi, Myrqvist and Morjas that I like.

Can walk around for 14 hours straight in shoes with the worst breathability, the muggiest 95F weather, and socks of any thickness and material and end the day with very minimal dampness.
