Can I wear cowboy boots with high class attire? These look like Chelseas with a zipper. Am I tripping?

I own black leather zip boots like that.

They are very versatile and timeless. I wear them casually with denim jeans and trousers for formal occasions.

If your boots have a zipper, you should throw them directly into the garbage where they belong

Those aren't cowboy boots, they're some kind of ankle boots that have just vaguely borrowed some western styling elements.

That said you can absolutely wear western boots with dressy stuff, just make sure they're appropriately styled, you probably don't want wide square toes or exotic materials/colors (on the lower part, the upper doesn't matter since it's covered by your pants) and you probably also want ones that fit pretty closely to the calf since otherwise they'll look weird under dress pants.

If you want that style of boot, why not go with a Jophur boot? They're also for riding, but don't have to make this cope shaft to accommodate non-boot-cut pants. Granted, there is formal western attire as well. I do the reverse and wear shirts and dress boots with Wranglers.

fwiw you don't really need boot cuts for most western boots either, regular straight cuts are more common if anything.
