Go back to mutilating yourself as a substitute for developing an individuality through gaining productive skills and characteristics that require effort.
Tattoos NEVER look good, they look as good as a skin disease or scar tissue. They are also a good indicator of poor impulse control which is prevalent among drug addicts and the mentally ill, manic-depressive to be more precise.

you misread my post. i said i think about the idea for many years before even getting the tattoo to begin with. which contradicts your point that the decision was impulsive.

I like biology illustrations/prints from field guides. But they are always very detailed with fine lines. Would stuff like that fade, if tattood over time?
>>

cool, good idea. there are a lot of factors that will play into the tattoo's longevity. black ink tends to last longer than coloured. it also is dependent on the technique of the artist, if they are experienced with blackwork and better yet botanical prints then theyll know how to better place the ink to make it stand out and hold. also just the sheer fact of being exposed to uv rays will cause it to fade. whether or not you use sunscreen on it and where the tattoo is placed. for example, i have a simple petroglyph figure on my forearm which has some small details and fine lines. i got it ten years ago and have spent a LOT of time in the sun, not using sunscreen at all. it is still plenty visible, but the parts of the tattoo closest to my wrist which are exposed to the light nearly all year are starting to jumble and the detail is starting to go. i am probably an extreme example since i am outside a lot in full sun and dont take care of my skin. my grandpa had a heavily detailed full rigged ship on his forearm that was literally a blur of ink by the time he died in his 80s. my sister on the other hand has a nice botanical print of strawberries on her arm that she got around the same time and all the detail is still there. so ymmv. hope this helps

I just find the illustrations in some of these guides amazing. I guess not any tattoo artist will be able to do this stuff and finding the right one would be key.

the only tattoos i've ever thought looked cool were Sicanje

from wikipedia:
>Women in some parts of [Bosnia and Herzegovina] tattooed their hands and other visible parts of the body (such as brow, cheeks, wrist, or below the neck) with Christian symbols and stećak ornaments. Boys were also tattooed with the same symbols mostly above the elbow on the right arm, chest, forehead, and pointer finger. This can be seen today, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina but among ethnic Croats from Bosnia and Herzegovina living abroad. Children were tattooed from as early as the age of six, usually during the period between the feast of Saint Joseph in March to the feast of Saint John the Baptist in June.

>[When questioned, Albanians] answered that [the "twig" designs in Sicanje] were "the light coming from the Moon, of course". For Albanians, it was the traditional way to represent light, which emanated from the Sun (Dielli) and from the Moon (Hëna), which was often represented as a crescent. So, the patterns of Catholic tattoos in Bosnia, which until then were known as "circles, semicircles, and lines or twigs", eventually were clearly explained as compounds of rayed (emanating light) suns, moons, and crosses, from an expression of Nature-worship and hearth-worship. Furthermore, the crosses (including swastikas) have been explained by Indo-Europeanist Karl Treimer as the symbol of the Illyrian fire god, Enji, who was the most prominent god of the Albanian pantheon in Roman times by interpreting Jupiter, when week-day names were formed in the Albanian language as Thursday (e enjte) was dedicated to him.

>Turks kidnapped Christian children and sent them to Turkey to be janissaries and servants, Catholics thus wanted to protect their children and mark them forever, so that they would know to whom they belonged. Later, the Turks used to use the right of the first wedding night, i.e. they would sleep with a newly married girl before her husband did. According to tradition, Catholics tattooed their girls in this way, so that they would be repulsive to Muslims and so that in case they were taken away, they would always know what they used to be. Male and female children from 3 to 18 years of age were tattooed using natural materials such as honey, charcoal, saliva and breast milk. The themes were: the bandit's cross, Jelica's cross, etc. Tattooing was regular until 1938, and since then it has been declining.

not really. played out already 10 years ago, npc tier lame to still talk about tattoos
>>

hell yeah, its funny that even in modern times tattoos offer protection from christians and muslims. its also interesting that throughout all of history, hand tattooing in particular was primarily a woman's domain. chuds love to talk about how modern women are degenerate for tattooing dainty little designs on their hands and fingers but its actually as traditional as makeup or any other mainstream beautification practice
>>
>>18606549
i agree, chuddies have the same complex with nose rings even though they were traditionally seen as fashionable or symbolic of wealth, namely in the bible

nose ring for rebekah, wife of isaac:
>Genesis 24:22 When the camels had finished drinking, the man took a gold ring weighing a half shekel, and two bracelets for her arms weighing ten gold shekels

god describing his affection for israel as if it were a bride:
>Ezekiel 16:12 I put a ring on your nose, earrings on your ears and a beautiful crown on your head
