I'm curious how anyone could look at stuff like not the right here >>18602987 and call it LARP. Larping as what? A normal person? That's what everyone wears to work. this is the least offensive and most normiecore blend-in-the-background way of dressing.
>>
>>18603004
My grandpa was a multimillionaire and only wore cheap Timex watches. I think fancy watches like this are very boomer coded. WWII vets and depression era kids would never.
>>
>>18603167
>WWII vets and depression era kids would never.
Because they grew up during hard times, so they knew the value of money and saw showing off wealth to be obscene. Boomers on the other hand were spoiled brats while growing up and continue to behave that way well into their old age. Hence their reputation.
>>
>>18603164

Then stop making threads that act like it's some fancy shit that deserves cringe names like "Prep".

I want to treat myself to a nice shetland sweater (or perhaps 2). I’m somewhat stuck on the colour. Leaning towards navy, but a moss green or very dark brown/warm black are also still in the cards.

Main issue is styling. I feel like the navy ones would fall flat on blue jeans/navy trousers, so I’d have less outfits to wear (don’t like khakis for dark and cold winter time). Warm black would be the most boring, but most versatile too… And I feel like green can quickly become a bit too colourful/bright when layering with light blue/white button-ups. All have their downsides, although i like ‘em all too.

If you had to pick one or two, what’d you go with, anons?

This but unironically. If you wear prep in a place where everyone wears prep & have dressed that way since 6 years old - not a larper. If you wear prep where other people wear graphics tees and sneakers - cringe larper.
>>
>>18603624
>What did she get wrong?
Nothing *wrong* ... just *different*.
People need to stop thinking of "old money" as prep done wrong and instead of its own distinct (shitty) style. Just like 2000s skater style wasn't what actual skaters wore but instead its own distinct (shitty) style.
>>
>>18603624
This "old money" fashion trend is entirely fiction, it is not real. I've met people on annual shareholder meetings with 9 digit net worths. They either wear a suit or typical boomer slop like every average joe boomer. They DO NOT know what Loro Piana is.
>>
>>18603582
Brown and grey are very versatile. You also have undeyed options for these too, which can be beautiful/unique. The darker to more formal on the spectrum. Shetland comes n many bright colours, of you can pull it off go ahead, but maybe make it your second purchase after picking something safer first. Bosie or Genuine Scottish Knits are great options, recommend. Skippers Mill, Shetland Woolen co, Community Clothing exist too, but have not bought from them yet.
>>
>>18603582
>>18603709
The fist color should always be uncolored.

Have some staples with the natural tone of the sheep or the natural color of the linen.

Second choice some whites. Nice and neutral. Third choice get an accent color. Make sure it's only one accent color per outfit: no green pants and red pullover simultaneously.

Are you from the USA? Preppy is just a basic fashion term that middle class public school kids have worn for a long time. When I was in HS from 06-10, like half the school dressed preppy.
The thread is traditional American clothing that everyone wore back in the day, ivy style that while originated in ivy schools became popular enough that it expanded past common collegiate wear to international appeal with books like Take Ivy in Japan and Black Ivy with Graham Marsh from the UK (among other books of his on the style).

I don't think you know what you're talking about. There is one crazy guy here always talking about old money but nothing in /tip/ is beyond middle class.

Actual preppy WASPs are always nice. Having some angry grudge (no matter if far left commies or far right groypers) is an immediate tell someone is lower class.

My dad's a multimillionaire and he has a few Rolexes but he just keeps them in his closet and hardly ever wears them.
The stats from Rolex about the average Rolex buyer (~150k income) shows that most people with Rolexes are upper-middle class pretending to be upper class but rich people absolutely wear Rolexes too

Trad clothes aren't in any way more expensive than t-shirts and jeans. You don't have to buy them from the same couple of well-known brands. They're fucking clothes, not high tech gadgets. There are hundreds of brands that will sell the same product (often literally, since they're made in the same sweatshops) but for much lower price (especially if you buy online). With most of the big name brands you're paying for the brand name, not the quality.

Thanks for the recs. I really like the idea of undyed as I prefer to wear ‘natural’ stuff and try to cut back on polyester as much as possible. Just looking at the catalog pics on Bosie’s website (picrel), however, I feel like it would look shaggy, i.e. as if I’ve been hugging my dog or laid in bed before going out. I know shetlands are supposed to be a bit rougher, but I’m particularly concerned about the hairyness. I already own quite a ‘hairy’ dark brown alpaca sweater, about which my feelings are quite mixed as well.

So still leaning navy, as I think it’s neutral enough. If I end up loving it, I’ll go and think about getting a second.

Like the idea of whites, but my winter skin is quite pale and dry so I generally tend to look rather sickly in lighter colours.

If you have any musculature, v taper maxxing and slightly slimmer pants is the move. Other than that, looks fine.
>>
>>18603927
Because you can find polyester attire for $10-30 that's just as quality as whatever $5k polyester sweater that you just splurged on. Not to say that polyester's a bad fabric, it's great actually if done right. It's just that you can't flex with it.
At least with other materials, sourcing and working with it is difficult so a cashmere/merino/silk shirt is actually worth the price tag most of the time.
>>
>>18605463
all the rich country club dads wear polyester golf polos
>>
>>18605482
Yeah, but do you ever see them brag about their choice in clothing? They might get compliments from other people, but polyester is inherently a humble fabric.
It's a very good fabric, but not something that you'd get if you wanted to flex your wealth.
>>
>>18605488
i dont see any tip types that brag unless theyre super young
>>
>>18605494
Exactly. If you're not a flex culture retard and not trying to impress other flex culture retards, then (well made) polyester is potentially the best fabric out there
though merino still has it beat in ultra cold weather, and you might have to compromise on the weave or add in other fabrics if you want specific sheens
