Looking for a nice watch with automatic movement under $200.
Thanks to everyone who taught me the basics in the poorfag shitter watch thread.
>>18607204f91-w next thread
And it needs to have sapphire and NH35 movement apparently. I know the right one is out there. This one might not have the right movement inside.
>>18607209Hey I looked that up. Not funny.
>>18607209My old man had one of those in the 80s.
This might be the one. I can't tell which guts are in it and if they are as good as the NH35
Yet this one is a bit cheaper. I don't know what the big difference is.
Shit, I'm back on this one again already. Someone suggested it in a previous thread. Still looking for it without the lightning bolt. Or maybe I can live with it. I'm no longer worried that all these watches are shitty. But I need to make sure certain things are not overlooked.
This could also be the one. I don't like that it doesn't have the 3 and 9 though.
Here we go. I don't love the rubber strap though. I can really cut the bubble off? I especially dig that it only has the one protuberance. Not two buttons and a knob. I guess I can't time any races or anything. So that's to do with the smaller dials inside. I guess I like the "panda" look but I didn't know what it was all for. I honestly will probably never use additional functions. Maybe I don't need them at all.
"Chronograph" is the word I was looking for. Now I get it. Sort of.
Damn, I found one with only two things sticking out, but it's way expensive. Maybe we can find a cheaper version. This is a pretty cool world. I didn't know all the ins and outs of watches before. I just know what I like to look at.
>>18607233Perfect colors on the panda as well. I like black and dark green the best.
Holy shit I love this one and it's in my price range! What do you think?
>>18607235Aw shit, it's quartz. That's why it was a deal for that brand. Dammit, it's always something. The perfect one IS out there though.
This could be a real contender. But how does this ST1908 movement stack up against the NH35 which is better than the Miyota 8s?Is this the mechanical watch I want? And I have to keep it wound? I really like this one. Even though it doesn't glow or have a window.
>>18607242Damn, it does have the window. It's got everything. Yet I almost equally want it in this ivory color. Do you guys wrestle with that too? Wanting the dark or light or a different color of the same watch? I can't decide. And I don't get the whole swan neck thing. It's one part shaped differently. What's the big deal? Does everything move differently through the watching window? Also, probably a basic dumb question, but on a watch without a second hand, is there a second hand moving on one of the interior dials? And on a regular chronograph are the other dials ever going or only when you're using those functions? I swear I saw one guy's fancy Citizen and one of the small dials was just spinning around on its own. I thought that was awesome.
This one's pretty cool too. On this one that smaller dial is definitely running, right? It's the second hand. Right?
I'm really liking this one too. Not a chronograph, but maybe that's not so important.
Pretty much the dumbest thing ever is those combo analog digital watches, though when I was 12 I thought they were great. I wish I could find a picture of that exact watch. How do you find a cheap watch from 35 years ago even? I'd have to go to the company and ask to see their historical files or something.
>>18607259Digital analog is still cool, and I'm tired of people telling me it isn't.If you want old watches, look through old watch catalogs.
>>18607262I meant analog clocks with tiny digital windows at the bottom of the dial. Not your thing there.
This one is nice as well. I can't decide.
19 zuan, 21 zuan... what does it all mean?
>>18607277https://seagull1963.com/blogs/blog/difference-between-19-zuan-and-21-zuan-on-the-seagull-1963-dialAnd it's all right here.
>>18607204Get the Sugess, it's in the top 10 chinese brands (with San Martin, Addiesive, Watchdives, IXDAO...) .It will give you the best bang for your buck as far as $200 automatic go. But clearly that's a budget that is too short for anything really decent and you'd be better off with a quartz, because those don't really deserve to be serviced.
>>18607280What? Now you're telling me I can't even get a decent mechanical for under $200?
Is service on a watch prohibitively expensive or something?
>>18607291It will work but it will need to be serviced sooner than a decent movement.Servicing a watch (in the west) would cost you more than these watches. That's why to me, any automatic under ~$600 is a real waste of money. It's like buying a throw away watch. At $200, i'd only buy quartz.
Now I'm back liking this one again. Simple looking, no numbers. I keep coming back to the Tophills.
>>18607294You'll be paying 100 bucks to service a movement that's worth less than that, it doesn't really make sense.>>18607291>a decent mechanical for under $200?It depends on what your definition of "decent" is. Good mechanicals keep good time, cheap mechanicals are fine, but they're not going to keep great time. Want accuracy within a minute? You'll need to set them weekly, with a good mechanical that would be monthly. A better chrono would be auto, instead of these manual hand wind only ST19s you're looking at.>>18607304That's not really true, service spans for fancier movements are shorter. I would agree that quartz is probably the better buy though, most of these are hi-beat in quartz, and lighter and slimmer watches. I wouldn't buy a manual chrono.
>>18607294Servicing costs more than $200 even for a simple movement. It comes down to the time they will spend and the minimum hourly wage in your country. What did you think?
Always:Black dialNumbersRed Seconds handsBracelet
>>18607304Hmmm. The other guys in the other thread were all telling me these are some pretty great watches now and they're the same ones that more expensive watches are made from. So maybe up to $3,000 I'm still paying for the same guts.Realistically, how much sooner? If I get 7 or 8 years out of a watch I guess that's okay. People were quoting me way longer though. I doubt I'll develop such an attachment to a $200 watch that I won't just get another one if it costs as much to fix it. $200 isn't really that much money. I certainly could spend more, but I'm not that big a watch guy. I wouldn't appreciate a $500-$1,000 watch more than I would a $200 one. Just as I don't appreciate fancy cars. I drive a 90s Subaru that works just fine. I did want a movement watch though. I don't give a fuck if my grandkids won't inherit it. I'm not going to put it through hell either. The watch just running normally isn't going to wear it out, right?Have any of you guys been into watches for decades? I'm betting most of you are way younger than I am. You probably still know way more shit about watches, you just probably haven't actually experienced many years of them and all the shit that happens. It's all speculative. Or not. I don't know.Appreciate the posts though.
>>18607310No idea. That's why I asked.
So auto self-wind is better than mechanical hand wind. But they both still have windows to the gears? So there's still a battery involved, right?Citizen makes those solar ones but I think they start at like $300. And there are the ones where the swinging of your arm harnesses power. That'd be cool.
>>18607319>The other guys in the other thread were all telling me these are some pretty great watches now and they're the same ones that more expensive watches are made from. So maybe up to $3,000 I'm still paying for the same guts.Kek no. No 3K watch use Seagull movements.Maybe he was talking about models that use Sellita SW200s.
So everything on aliexpress is just going to suck to some degree?
I just read that a quartz watch will need the battery replaced every 1-2 years. No shit?I want one that needs no battery now.
>>18607335Why bother with aliexpress when better marketplaces already exist?
>>18607335no, some things also blow
>>18607319It's ok if you know what you get into then. Those will not be accurate quikly (after 4 years maybe, depends on the watch) and people often just change the movement rather than fix it.That being taken into account, yeah Sugess and San Martin watches are nice for what they are.You could also get a Seiko 5 for this price.
>>18607339>>18607340Because I originally posted watches I was looking at on Amazon and someone suggested there were great deals on essentially the same watches but much cheaper. I saw some videos and concluded that I don't care about some fancy brand, I just want an affordable watch that isn't quartz and has a certain look to it.I'm gonna be really clear: I'm not a watch guy and I'm not going to spend more than $200 for a watch. It seemed very doable in the last thread and now it's morning and different people are chiming in and I feel that I'm going to get a lot of comments like there just aren't any in my price range that don't suck. Or blow. So don't see this from the perspective of someone who doesn't deal in watches under $500 or won't help me with my "poorfag budget watch situation", just try and help me out within my parameters.
>>18607342The San Martins are okay, some of them. Don't really like the designs and none are chronographs under $200. The Sugess are nice.
The Seikos I can afford don't look good to me.
Of course that's because I'm looking at Macy's. Maybe I just need a used watch. I don't care about a lot of things others might care about.
>>18607347Seiko 5 or Orient Bambino if you want an official brand
What's "power reserve" mean? If you don't wind it what could that be about?
>>18607354That's very limited. Those are extremely basic watches. I don't care about "official" brands. Not sure what that means anyway. Just established, popular brands? Old brands? Western brands? It's like you're saying there are only two possible options for a non-quartz good watch. And they all look pretty much the same. At least on aliexpress there are fucktons of cool designs I like to look at. I'll never get why the name "Seiko" or "Citizen" or whatever is more important. Like as long as it's a good brand it can look dinky or dumb, and some awesome looking watch is less respectable because it's not a known name.If the movements are all made in China anyway who cares about the wrapping?
Yeah, all those Seiko 5s look identical. And a lot of the other supposedly "high-end" watches look like that too. The Rolexes everyone is knocking off, I don't even like that design. It's like there's a general style with the numbers and the hands and everyone is emulating it. So fucking lame. To me. No offense to anyone who loves all that. I just got excited seeing all those cool watches and then being told they're really pretty good. And now I'm being told they really aren't very good.
>>18607347Just get a Seiko 5 or an Orient. That's often the first budget automatic watches.Did you look up Orient Bambinos?
>>18607361Yes I looked them up. They're okay. Just limited in style. Why do you think those are so much better? And what do you see as so off-putting about the aliexpress ones?
See, the Seikos and the Orients are all more around $250 - $400. So it's like I'm just getting their lowest tier product for $200. Again, that's giving a fuck about a brand name. Are the movements superior or something? Just what is the selling point?
>>18607360So here's what I suggest , either you get some good chink watch from aliexpress like Sanmartin, Cronos etc just make sure they mount a NH35 or solid automatic movement and Sapphire glass and watch some video reviews and general reviews for build quality. You can get a Seiko 5 or Orient Bambino which are the more reliable entry level watches everyone get when getting into watches and are known to be reliable. Or you can go to Chrono24 and dig the lots of vintage watches of all types and get something from there.
And again, those ones you keep suggesting are not chronographs at all.
>>18607369Okay, thanks. I'm not "getting into watches" though. Or care about any of what that entails, which is a lot of brand appreciation stuff. I'm never going to get a $500 watch and I'm not going to drool over the $2,000 watches. This is probably gonna be it and then I won't give a fuck at all once I'm wearing it.
>>18607378What size are you looking for? 38 mm? 40? Lug to Lug ?
>>18607369And someone posted a really good video about build quality in the last thread and that's why I'm considering a few of the aliexpress brands. Some watch expert was showing how well made they were and how China is making everyone's movements and knocking off their designs, but also making their own cool designs. So I figure if the inner workings are the same I'm not going to spend hundreds more for a brand name. I just want the actual watch to WORK as well and be made of good stuff. As long as the logo isn't hideous (and some are) I don't care. It was really looking like $150-$200 could make me happy. I've found over 30 watches I like so far. >>18607380I really don't know. Doesn't seem like that big a difference. What does this look like? It's way smaller than my stupid Invicta. I don't like the big ones. But I don't want a ladie's either.
>>18607364Orient watches are an old japanese brand (1950) owned by EPSON. They use japanese movement on par with Miyota. It's an actual legit brand that has many years of people wearing their watches.Sugess is a Shenzen brand that is mostly known to make copies of other brands primarly. They are now trying to diversify a little. They use chinese Seagull movements that are copies of an old european movement. That's the difference, that's why they are seen differently by people who are into watches.
>>18607387Not all chinese brands are the same. San Martin is the GOAT. Sugess, i've never seen their factory.
>>18607394When did SMartin get so pricy? I see the automatic ones go for 300 bucks wtf
>>18607402tariffs
>>18607388Yeah, I looked up that stuff. I guess I just want the bare bones truth on the actual working movements, not anything about established brands or who copied who. I don't want to disrespect people who appreciate all that. I just don't care. I want of course the right style for my taste, and I don't know if Seiko 5 offers that. I can see it from a watch guy's perspective: Seiko is a ground floor, luxury-adjacent name, so whether it's quartz or not or has the right color or strap, none of that matters as much as the fact that it's a "real Seiko". And that doesn't mean anything to me. I mean, I have a Timex right now. I mentioned in the other thread how my sister went to China and there were different floors of tailors with different levels of quality fabrics and craftspeople and even equipment. And it was all cheap because it's being made, right there, IN China. But there was the $50 suit and the $300 suit, and the $300 suit was actually the $5,000 suit sold in the US. Or that's how it was explained to me. That there are so many knockoffs but the really good ones rival actual good shit. Like the Prada bag that's stitched JUST as well with the same good materials. It's still a fake, but if that quality is there I don't care. So with the watch I want that good build with the good movement they use in designer watches. I just care about if the design appeals to me. Not the name. I've bought knockoff cologne that smells similar but it's shitty. It doesn't last as long. I'm being told these Chinese watches are every bit as good if the brand isn't important.
>>18607394Okay, well San Martin wants $300 instead of $150-$200 like the others. Why? Again, if the movement is identical why pay more? There's something I guess to the dial and the hands and the quality there, but mostly that's about style anyway. I saw one video the guy was talking about inlaid metal bits laid in for the hours as opposed to just a painted or printed dial. I get that. The band may be somewhat important.
>>18607405You're getting baited by retards who don't know what they're talking about whose impression of Chinese watches was set in stone 40 years ago.A modern Seiko will have a worse than NH35 movement (if you're spending under 300 bucks), hardlex garbage crystal, and a shitty bracelet. 20 years ago, Seikos made sense, you could get something okay for cheap. These days, the Chink version is just cheaper and better, Seiko don't do sapphire on anything under 500 bucks.A sub 200 dollar Chink watch is going to beat the shit out of anything else you can get in the sub 200 dollar market, and most watches in the sub 1k market. It's not going to beat a 10k Rolex.
Yep. See? These all look the same and all cost a lot more. You like San Martin because it apes some Rolex design. Please, stop looking at this like a watch guy. I don't like this lame look. Why is this the look? Why do all the Seiko 5s look pretty much the same? It's all about the status of whatever that is. I'm not into that.
>>18607412Thank you!! This was the attitude that had me excited in the last thread. These guys are raining on my parade. Yes, it seems they don't want to give the Chinese watches a chance. I didn't really either until so many people explained like you did and then showed me videos of people holding them up and proving it.
>>18607409San Martin use NH35 or PT500 thate are ETA clones or maybe even Sellita movements i believe.Sugess uses Seagull (if Sugess is not even a subsidiary of Seagull). They are not the same movements.
>>18607416Are they comparable? Is one going to last twice as long or are they pretty much on an even keel?
>>18607418>Are they comparable?no
So the ST and Seagull movements are decidedly worse? Why?
Bulova and Omega are more brands out of my reach that watch guys probably think are superior because of their history or some shit.
>>18607409The more you pay, the better the finishing work gets. A cheaper watch might have stamped hands instead of polished ones, a molded dial with fake indices instead of pinned indices, better case and bracelet finishing, better tolerances and alignment, nicer dial finishes. These things may or may not matter that much to you, if your bar is the invicta, basically anything that isn't a 10 dollar gumball watch on Ali will be a significant step up.>>18607420The ST is a worse movement because it's an older movement and the added complexity of a chrono gives you more points of failure.
Ask 20 different people, get 20 different opinions.
>>18607420Whatever you do, if you buy one of the Seagull chronos, don't ever use the chrono complication. It fucks the movement, all the people who buy those watches say it.
>>18607424Those things do matter. Is every extra $20 going to be a step up? I don't know if I need everything to be hand polished and all if that means doubling the price to $400, and that still being just laughable in the eyes of "real" watch enthusiasts. There's always something better. I mainly want the good movement and the quality casing holding everything together and I want it to look nice. There are videos of guys holding up and showing off these $160 chinese watches marveling at the quality construction and how well made each part is. I guess I just have to do a lot of research. It's nice to get the truth, but so many people here are biased about what they consider too cheap to even consider. I get that. We all have our snobby areas of expertise. Sucks when you're out of your depth.
>>18607429Is that the thing when you turn the whole watch into like a stopwatch or timer and then click it back to normal time with the third button? I saw something about not doing that. I'm not gonna do all that. Is it like dry firing a gun or something?
>>18607435On a real chrono watch you can use the chrono function, but on those watches it's just aesthetic. Sometimes they even make subdial that don't make sense (using the sub chrono as a double of the minute hand). It's one of the details that don't make these brands real watch brands.
>>18607435If you don't care about the chrono, you shouldn't buy a chrono. If you want a cheap chrono, you should just get a quartz VK64. If you want an automatic so you don't have to worry about batteries, just get an NH35. Or 36 if you want day/date.
Watch was ~100 off ali or ebay I think Strap was 10 off aliNh35 movement Its ok. I like it because it's brass or bronze, face colour is nice, simple clean design. I have a gucci with a sw200 movement, cost $600 off chrono. So if you up your budget a little more you can get a nicer movement but picrel is easy to wear, is my daily.
>>18607441Yeah, you're just dismissing all Chinese watches it looks like. Not helpful.
I don't want anything bigger than 40mm for sure. 38 - 40 seems like my sweet spot. The Invicta must be 44 or something. It makes my already kind of small hands look ridiculous.
>>18607446Wow, that's almost TOO generic. It doesn't have anything on the dial at all. I want a little more flair than that stylewise too.I like those panda ones.
>>18607446Case is fine, that dial looks a bit too cheap.>>18607452I think the Invicta you bought was like 52mm, a real dinnerplate.
Are you guys telling me that something like this will have an unreliable chronograph and that the movement probably sucks balls?
>>18607460>a real dinnerplateThis made me laugh. I need to get some sleep. I spent my whole night browsing for watches. No closer to deciding. Regretting that MVMT more and more.
>>18607462It'll look nice but the more you use the chrono the more likely it is to break, and manual wind movements suck balls even if they work fine, who wants to wind their watch every morning?
>>18607473I do. I like old timey things like winding a watch. I like typewriters and rotary phones. I'm gen-x raised by silent generation parents. I'm not going to use the chrono.
Don't forget to wind your watch, Ted!
>>18607462As a chrono. yeah it's unreliable.As a time only watch, it will do fine +/- 2 mn a day.
So NH35 is now back on the list of what I should get I guess.
How's this one? Not a chrono.
>>18607489I'd try and find an NH35 over the 8215. It's not a terrible movement, but the NH35 is better, and won't really cost you much more. You're also generally better off paying a little more for a bracelet, it's easy to swap out for a strap if you want, but the inverse is a lot harder due to lug variation.
I like this San Martin okay. Has the NH35. But the design is kind of boring. Another one trying to look like some really expensive, 5 figure watch I guess. No chrono, no cool window into the guts, nothing I'm loving.
>>18607498But this one I don't have to wind? Don't have to worry? And most importantly the second hand moves smoothly not 1 tick per second? I'm compromising on a bunch of shit now. It's luminous I guess. And 38.5 seems just right. Really do like the color at least.
So what the hell do you get for these $10 - $20 'luxury' watches? Do they work at all? How can they possibly be that cheap? And the $2 ones? What the fuck is that about? Just for shysters to buy and sell for $30 to REAL stupid people?
>>18607499Yes, the NH35 is an automatic, so it winds itself when you move your hand around throughout the day. You should buy a watch you like, if you don't like the design then what's the point? If you want to handwind an ST and avoid using the chrono just because you like the panda dials, go for it.>>18607503Junk. You might get a "metal" case, or it might be chrome painted plastic. Internally you'll get a 20 cent quartz movement with an accuracy on par with a mechanical, and awful plastic hands and a poorly printed dial.
Orient watches are basically disposable because the movements are difficult to find. The cost of service will exceed the cost of the watch so they don't make sense to get in a long term sense in my opinion. Sea-gull sells all their movements online though so you can outright replace the movement 10 years down the line which makes more sense financially. Here's a cool looking Sea-gull military style watch with an ST16 movement inside, 120 on good-stuffs. My experience with their movements has been great, I think they get a bad rap because there's lots of fake movements out there on ali-express.
>>18607516And here's a non-chrono version of the 1963 made by Red Star using the ST2130 movement, 160 on good-stuffs. I have hands on experience with this watch and it runs -2spd when sitting on my desk, around -5 if I'm wearing it.
I was just on a site reading Seiko reviews, and even those are based on Rolexes and other really really high-end watches. The guy was saying what a bargain it is for a $300 Seiko to resemble a $10,000 watch. That's just so silly to me.
>>18607516>>18607519Nice. Thanks for responding. the -2,-5 is about accuracy?I gotta take off for a while I'll be back later though.Pretty good board. I'll be back later to check back in
>>18607520It's because their understanding of what a watch should have for the money is completely tainted by mountain jews who charge absurd amounts. Just as an example, a few years back I was looking at a watch somewhere, it was like a couple of grand or something absurd. And it had a sapphire option, for just an extra 300 bucks!Sapphire costs about 10 bucks if you're buying a single crystal. For a company producing thousands of watches, that price goes way down. And so you wind up with retards who are amazed that a company that has been around for decades can sell a whole watch for 300 bucks, when that's just the price of sapphire in their minds.
>>18607521Yes, thats the amount of seconds per day you either gain or lose. Just about all mechanical watches in your price range only guarantee an accuracy of +-30 seconds, so I may have just got very lucky. If this is a big deal to you or you don't see yourself wanting to reset the time weekly you're better off with a quartz watch.
>>18607526I had great accuracy with mechanicals, but then I started jerking off with my left hand and they gain way too much time way too fast. Quartz holds up much better.
>>18607526Yeah, I don't care that much about accuracy. It's rare that I need to know what time it is down to the minute and a wristwatch is the only way I can be sure. I'm usually early to things. I don't mind checking the time against another source and adjusting it. I've only ever had quartz battery watches. I didn't really know the difference going on inside. I was surprised to learn there were so many kinds of movements and people with opinions about each one. I'm a simple guy. I wear gas station sunglasses. A lot of fashion stuff seems absurd to me. And of course this website is filled with the kinds of people who are probably destitute living in a shack and yet post with authority as if they actually own a dozen high end watches. Everyone's an expert with only the finest taste, and anyone short of that is a poor, cheap loser who is retarded and gay. I take all that with a grain of salt.>>18607523These are the posts that make sense to me. I saw the videos of the real watch people critiquing these Chinese watches and they're reporting, almost in surprise at just how well made and stylish they are. All these people telling me to take Watch Guy route and get myself baby's first Seiko while aspiring my way towards the holy grail of possible Rolex ownership one day, they just don't get it; can't remove themselves from that frame of mind. That path doesn't interest me in the slightest. Even if they got on board with my budget, they'd still want a watch with a certain style, like these in my pic. These have that look watch enthusiasts always go for.The search continues.
How about this one? Is the movement /fa/ approved?
I like this one too, and all of these really.
OOOOOooo! Is this a steal? I might go over budget here.
This one too maybe.
I'm REAL close to pulling the trigger on this one. It's a Citizen, which I thought I'd never afford (I guess I can be tempted by brands too) but it's got the winding auto and the open heart. Not over the top back window. No chrono, but my main gripe is it doesn't have that sapphire dome glass. How important is that?
I added this to my shopping cart. I figure it'd be a good daily driver. Not too dressy, most of what I'm looking for. I've decided I deserve 2 watches and I can spend $500. I'm thinking something like this (a brand watch that should last) AND a cool AliExpress one like the Sugess. That one Watch Bros. video really sold me on the Sugess. Now I just have to choose the exact right one for around $200.Meaning I can go up to $300 for a Cit or a Seiko or Orient or Bulova. You guys could probably help more on the $300 brand watch than the Chinese one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9R_k7wI3IYI'm clearly very impulsive. My mind changes whenever I see the shiny new thing. It's gonna be that way until I commit and buy the watches and then I'll settle down. I have the stupid MVMT coming (maybe I can return it) and that's a lesson against jumping the gun.
Looks like they've already raised the price on these less than 24 hours later. I can't get it yet anyway. There's a whole "countdown" to keep me glued to the edge of my seat I guess.
>>18607833Citizen are not a fancy brand, they're about the same as Seiko. The dial is fancy looking, but I think it's just molded. The movement is pretty analagous to the 8215 (it's the 8229, which is just the 8215 rearranged for the open heart dial). Gold on watches will also rub off over time, it's only PVD plated.>>18607835This has a poor dial, and non functional internal bezels are dumb.
So the chronograph, the panda, the nice dome anti-reflective sapphire glass lid/face/whatever.. the Sugess has it all; covers all of my criteria. So the other $300 I just want a nice Seiko or Citizen or Bulova or something along those lines. More elegant, the metal clasp, all that. You guys up for helping with that hunt?>>18607840Yeah, I consider them fancy enough. I'm not ever going to be in a league above that and it'd be silly to own a watch worth more than my cars. You're right! Why the fuck are there those bezel numbers if the thing doesn't rotate and click? I HATE that. Good eye. Crossing it off the list. Removing it from the cart rather.
>>18607841It's a tougher ask if you want something new, most watches are going to be a compromise, even Japanese brands. The open heart isn't terrible, but there's some annoying parts, gold will scratch and look terrible fairly fast, and Citizen seem to love non-tapering bracelets which I find quite bulky. They do seem to at least be offering sapphire on most of their range these days though, which Seiko was still lagging behind on last I checked.I would say buy something vintage, you can get some very nice dials for not a lot of money, but autos are going to probably need a service and you don't seem that keen on single beat quartz, and old bracelets are mostly folded links.
>>18607847Vintage like used on eBay? They always look so worn. Like I'd immediately want new glass. You mean maybe get a 'fixer-upper' with no strap and needing a tune-up?The gold on this one isn't too flashy. What do you think of the Eco-drive movement?
I like all of these, though the one on the left is too flashy and specific for me; I'd never buy it.
This one's kinda cool. That's enough Citizen for a while.
>>18607850Eco-drive is single beat quartz with a solar dial. The problem with gold isn't that it's flashy, it's that any scratches on it will expose the silver steel underneath. >>18607852Nice dial, but black watch cases have the same issue with scratching, unless they're something like ceramic.
>>18607387>>18607446>wh*teewww
Heard a lot of good stuff about the Timex Marlin. This one has a mystery price. it was $149.00, very tempting. Timex is so "uncool" though, right?
>>18607855Yes, white people are so yucky! Everyone thinks so.
I'm really digging this one. I can get this and another $150 watch, maybe a quartz. Plus the Sugess it'll be a pretty nice haul.Or maybe get a $300 Seiko or Citizen. Or something else entirely? What about those vintage options? What would you guys do with $300 looking for a green, classy casual watch?
Part of me just wants to do this and be done with it. Pretty sweet deal. The Timex Marlin AND the open heart Citizen winder watch. Kind of everything I'm looking for when you add in the Sugess.Fuck. I just want them all. I can't afford to become a watch guy. I need to buy something so I can end this new obsession. I want to be a person who doesn't care about STUFF. And here I am about to buy 3 watches I don't need for nearly $600 total if I spend $220 on the Sugess. But also I'm kind of set for life for watches.I might do it. I can always wait on the Sugess for a better price after Christmas. Or is now the cheapest time to buy?
>>18607856Timex aren't great. Low quality across the board.>>18607859Domes are way easier to scratch, and it's acrylic, so it's going to scratch like crazy.
Anyone know how to get "promo codes"? I always see that at checkout and never had one. If I can save $40-$50 I'd like to somehow.
>>18607864>acrylicFUCK! Thank you! I saw 'crystal' and thought it was somehow crystal. I'm dumb. Fuck, I guess the Marlin is out. Acrylic is what they make cheap bongs and clothing out of. WTF? I just saw two videos from totally different watch guys talking up these Timex Marlins as a real quality watch with classic style. I like them, but that dome cannot fly. I guess they don't offer a better one, not at that price. As far as 'low quality across the board', I don't know about that. The CHEAP Timex watches are sturdy and dependable. I read the movement on these is supposed to be very good. Obviously not in Rolex range, but neither am I.
It does tout that the acrylic IS scratch resistant though. Does that count for nothing?
This seems to have everything but the green. If I find it in green I am sold.
>>18607872This will have a "sweeping seconds" hand, right? That's important to me; it's why I want a non-quartz movement.
And now there's this! I really like it, but that bubble over the date would have to go. Maybe. What do you think of this one?NH35 Automatic. That keeps getting pushed to me by this board.
>>18607870It counts for nothing, all acrylic is "scratch resistant". All watch glass is a crystal, you have acrylic at the bottom, mineral glass in the middle, and sapphire at the top. Acrylic is just plastic. It's hard plastic, but it'll scratch if you look at it. The nice thing about acrylic is because it's soft, you can buff out the scratches as long as they're not too deep. Mineral glass is harder to scratch, but still pretty easy to scratch, and harder to resurface. Sapphire is the only good option, and advances over the past few decades have made it so cheap that there's no reason it wouldn't be on every watch, aside from greed and that you can't really make concave domes with it, which is an issue with some designs.Ideally, you want AR coated sapphire, because the internal reflections of sapphire can make it a bit reflective in high light. But you only want the AR on the bottom, because the AR coating scratches easily if you put it on the top too.>>18607874You should always google a movement first to see it running in a video, easy way to check. It's an auto, so yeah. Only real issue here is that the lug design makes changing the strap a little difficult, and the strap won't be the best.
>>18607877Good stuff, thanks. Acrylic is out. They make conCAVE domes? That's cool.
This is pretty cool for the price.
>>18607876DUXOT around the rim of the chapter ring is pretty tacky. You can remove cyclops bubbles, they're just glued on. Again, at this point what you're looking at are basically just Chinese dropshipped watches, duxot isn't a brand and there are plenty of other watches that look just like this.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009901212024.html>>18607881These plastic dials aren't great. The SRPJ47 might be interesting to you.
I can really dig this one too.
>>18607882Shit, I didn't see that on the ring. As if the name wasn't prominently displayed enough. I don't care if it's a brand if I might be getting a better watch because it ISN'T a brand, you know? That's why I'm doing the Sugess; to get some options that are never available on watches of that price range, and I wouldn't do it if I didn't love the look too.
>>18607882>>18607882Oh I get it. The WM one IS that non-brand watch with all the stuff on it. I had no idea it could be so cheap. Doesn't specify exact movement. Someone said if the specs are too good to be true.. or maybe that's your point.
>>18607886Sure, but if you're looking for a brand watch it'll fall flat, and when it's just a datejust clone you can probably find a nicer one on ali for cheaper. The NJ0159-86X might be worth a look, but it's EU exclusive.
>>18607888EU only, what a disappointment. I don't blame them I guess.
>>18607887It does specify the movement, it's a Miyota 8215, which is about what you'd expect at this price point. Not as good as the NH35, still a pretty good workhorse. Main issue I see with it is that I'm not a big fan of butterfly clasps and the dial looks molded, which isn't the best but it's visually interesting from a distance. The lugs might also be a bit fake, but it's a cheap watch.
I was liking this up until "scratch-resistant Hardlex", and then the unknown movement. Seems like when you go for a brand you have to compromise. It's an auto and it's a nice 38. Not green.
>>18607896I see. They have the movement in the title but not the actual specs. Weird. Yeah, I don't want anything that cheap. Thanks for steering me away from the Duxot with that example.
These all gold watches look so fucking tacky. Even if they were $50,000 I'd think that. But who'd want a low-end one? It can't look that much better than a $40 one. Sadly there are 30 people looking at it right now.
Last night everyone was saying get the Seiko 5. Now that I'm looking at Seiko where the fuck are those guys? lol
>>18607897Yeah, Seiko aren't going to give you sapphire without spending over 500 bucks. You can measure the crystal and swap it out with a sapphire replacement most of the time, but that's aftermarket work.
It said Omegas were on sale. I guess $4,000 is a sale. Another brand I'm not even looking at.
Hey, let's make another Invicta mistake! haha
This one's funky.
>>18607904>>18607905Weird how they can't give these away. At some point did they really go for so much? Or do they inflate that to entice buyers? >Oooh, I'm saving 90% I can't afford NOT to buy them!!Sheesh. I'm pathetic. I'm like Homer Simpson sometimes. I'm amazed at my restraint so far.
I'm liking the idea of the Eco-drive. No battery ever again, good for the environment, me doing my part, blah blah blah.Is it going to tick like a quartz though? This is a good price. But fixed bezel and mineral crystal.
>>18607909And a silver chrono like that is just $144. Meaning maybe getting two. I can't decide what the fuck to do. If I found the right NH35 with sapphire that looked good to me I'd get it. But $300 won't get me any cool brand; I don't care. Still might get that Citizen open heart despite the gold part.
I haven't yet found a way to type in the specs I want and find watches. On ali it just tries to sell me the fucking parts and just the movements when I do that. At least on the legit stores you can do all the filters. I'm spending so many hours and coming up with nothing. I wanted to watch a movie tonight and I can't stop doing this.
I wonder if people making youtube videos can inflate market price on these kinds of things by getting everyone to browse them. Company's thinking: 'hey, it's almost Christmas and we didn't know what we had here. Now that these are being promoted let's see how much we can squeeze.'
I'm going to try and narrow down again on this Jomashop site. Forgetting about Green for now. 526 results. Any other sites I should be looking for brand watches? I'm avoiding Walmart and Amazon, or is that dumb? I'm open to anything here.Getting that Sugess on Ali but doesn't look like that's the place for anything but knockoffs. Or maybe I find me the right knockoff. IDKMaybe I shouldn't be so picky about movements.
As far as I can tell, the 'Hardlex' is the only real drawback to this fucking watch. I can't imagine it being that big a deal, but if I got a sapphire one and had it installed, would that cost me like an extra $100? Would I buy a cheap Aliexpress crystal and then take it to my jeweler and have him do it? I could see making that happen for like $50. I'm getting 2 or 3 watches. They don't all have to be perfect. The Sugess has a lot going for it. This Seiko is still "a cheap watch" to you guys, but it's fancy to me.
>>18607909>Eco-drive. No battery ever againThat's not quite how it works. Solar quartz uses a capacitor instead of a battery, and capacitors do eventually go bad. If your average watch battery lasts 5-10 years, the capacitors might last 20-30. They're also harder to change depending on the design, because they weren't really designed to be swapped out.>>18607914Sure, most videos you see are some form of paid advertisement, they usually get the watch for free and often don't disclose if the company told them to say X or Y.>>18607915There are lots of places to find watches. If you find one you like it's always worth searching the model number at least, you might get one on ebay barely worn for half the price, or a better deal on a different storefront. As long as you're sticking to established names on Ali then you're not going to get scammed.>>18607916So it really depends on your jeweler. As long as the crystal is the right size, it's not hard to get a watch crystal press for 20 bucks and do it yourself, but if you're worried about touching the dial and leaving a fingerprint forever most jewelers should do it for you.
https://calibercorner.com/citizen-caliber-8229/I think I can live with this. The "green" one I think is technically grey. At least it's not called green, and it's more expensive with a band I like less. It's got the sapphire lid going for it and I dig the style.
>>18607918Thanks. I could not navigate these waters without all the advice. I know it seems like I change my mind with each new thing I see or learn, but it's all adding up to something. Even if it's just more knowledge for next time. Maybe I will become a watch guy. I don't know yet. I like wearing a watch wherever I go even if it's just my Timex. I don't usually carry a phone, and if I do I don't want to have to dig it out when I could look at a watch. I always wanted a nice watch as a kid but I was always happy with the Timex or Armitron or Swatch I had at the time. I'm gonna see if Swatch is still a thing.
Holy shit, Omega-Swatches! Quite a history with Swatch. I'm not much older than the company. They make nice watches under the umbrella Swatch Irony. Pretty cool.
>>18607919https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUIDm6RLMcgHere's a video showcase, looks good imo even though I'm not a fan of open hearth watches
This is interesting. Quartz though. I don't wanna spend more than $120 on a quartz.
>>18607919So I would tend towards buying the one with the bracelet over the one without. Sure, it's an extra 20 bucks, but then you have a bracelet that fits, and it's not hard to swap it out for a leather strap later. Watch lugs are all different sizes, if you decide you want a bracelet later on you're going to be in for a rough time getting one that fits. If you've got no interest in ever using it with a bracelet, then sure, get the cheaper strap option.>>18607921Hey, finding a lot of things you like is a good thing. Personally I don't have much of an issue with watch buying because I find maybe one watch I like every decade.>>18607926Swatch do a lot of visually appealing watches, but they're basically sealed movements. I don't know quite how their newer steel ones work, but the plastic ones are all glued shut.
>>18607924Damn, that watch is no joke. Maybe too swanky for me. Thank you. I need to see that stuff before ever buying a watch. I don't see ANY problem with the quality for the price. I thought a Citizen AND an automatic in the same watch would be unattainable to me. But I'm thinking I'd rather have a 38mm and no gold. I'm being so hasty.
This site wants a bit more for it.
And watches.com sucks.
I don't even know how you tell the time on shit like this.
>>186079419:07 on the NASA I guess. Still stumped on that Space Odysee shit though.
>>18607942It's probably just the number at the bottom, so 7:31.
>>18607948Oh. So the top dials are the date then? So ugly. And so expensive.
So I go to finally pull the trigger on the green Citizen after seeing a few specific videos about it, then seeing Amazon wants $70 more for it and other sites over $100 at least. This Joma is giving me the runaround. The fucking fields to enter credit card info are not accessible. You can't click and enter anything. Just my luck. They open in an hour so maybe I can order it over the phone. Or maybe this was a sign not to get it. Once in a while I go to buy something and if it's shady or overseas my bank won't let me do it. I guess that's a good thing.
>>18607958I think they're just the hours, so there are 3 wheels each with 4 hours on them, and they spin around every hour to show the next one.>>18607961Don't they accept paypal? I use that whenever it's an option because it's an extra security layer.
>>18607964I don't have paypal. Also it's Sunday and they aren't open anyway. I'll figure something out.
PayPal is surprisingly easy to acquire. I bought the damn thing. Just happy it's over with. Still have that stupid MVMT on the way, but it was I think $60.Then the Sugess still in 19 hours when it's available. Not sure if I'm going to want more. Maybe if there's a really sweet thing around $100-$150.
I already regret it. I probably won't wear it much. But I'll have a nice handful of watches to choose from, none that look too similar. Maybe I'll get 3-4 more cheap quartz ones. Not all of them need to be more than just fashion. Right, /fashion/?
Damn, just learning these exist.
I decided to pick this one up. Rethinking that Sugess now. I'm learning all about that 'lug to lug' stuff, and the Sugess 40mm (the one I like the style of the best) is 51mm. I think it will look silly on my wrist. The 38mm has a different dial with a lame font and just a different look. I still want to do the panda thing but maybe check out different ones. Even all the cool hardware on the Sugess won't matter if I don't wear it. And the one I'm looking at is now up to $240. I don't get how they keep raising the price of a sale that's not even started yet.
>>18607990Lug to lug is important. These little field watches can be a lot of fun, and VH31 is nice because it's high beat quartz, but 4 beats per second does mean the batteries only last 2 years instead of 5 like more basic 1 beat per second quartz stuff.
>>18607991Cool! I didn't even know that. I really like the idea of more than one beat per second. 2 years is fine.
I like this. Still the long lugs I guess. But maybe I'll find a different one. Can I just saw those off? Round the watch completely? Why not?
>>18607994So the issue with lugs is lugs have lug holes in them. In order to shrink the lugs you have to shave away material from around the lug holes, which is where the strap attaches. Honestly, it's really dependent on wrist size. If you've got big wrists, 50mm lug to lug is fine. I've got tiny wrists, so 45mm is about the limit for me, the golden rule is about 70-95% of your wrist width.
>>18608001Yeah, I don't know if my wrists are tiny. I posted that Timex. But I've lost some weight, some of it muscle I think just being in for a few years. Seems like my arms and wrists are bigger when I'm working more. I'm going to look up the exact specs on my Timex and not get anything any bigger.
My Timex Weekender is 40 mm so I'm not too concerned. But the lugs are much more understated too. They want $80 for that now. I don't think I paid more than $50. Probably can be found cheaper. I'm surprised prices fluctuate so much. I'm convinced I got that Citizen for as cheap as possible new.
Though I don't think the 38mm would look silly small. It'd probably even out for the long lugs.
I'm now liking this design because it looks smaller than the others with the way the case meets the band. But specs say 40 to 44mm, and that's confusing. I don't want anything over 40 and was really hoping for a 38mm Sugess panda, but they aren't looking right. I just don't want more gold and I do want that sapphire crystal.
Maybe this one too. 38mm
>>18608119People complaining about what they got here. Saying they ordered 38mm and got 41. Saying it's even smaller than 38. Saying shit's misaligned. Oof. I've got to be careful.
This one has a lug to lug of 47, which isn't bad at all. I like this style too, and it's a Sugess chrono with Sapphire crystal, so I may have found the winner.
The Red Stars look okay too. I definitely want one of these kind though. the 1963 Seagull or one like it. The pandas are sweet.
Or any of these. Hell, I like them all.
I'm so fucking stupid ordering this. 47mm??? I didn't even know what any of that meant a few days ago. It's arriving today. I can't wait to return it. I'm such an idiot. What was I thinking??
>>18607852https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZne8XMmCgYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcHbNCTipJo
>>18608329Hey thanks! I will for sure check those out. I've been seeing that brand a lot and they're pretty good.
>>18608169Dont beat yourself down. MVMT are a meme but they are very good with their photography, we've all been there
>>18608369Can I return something I opened? I just want to see how stupid it looks on my wrist. I bet it'd look cool on Andre the Giant. I've got a bunch of delivery boxes on the porch and it's in one of them. I can't face any of that right now.
Maybe I can resell it and make a tidy profit. Look at this stupid shit. I guess that angle makes it look a little better. I'm glad I spend $60. Still not keeping it.
Anyone dig these?
This would be fucking awesome if it weren't 42mm. Anything similar in a 36 or 38 that anyone knows about? Still trying to decide on the military style quartz. This has sapphire and a mechanical wind.
And yet another contender. You guys like Berny?
>>18608429this militado is better. $84 currently.
Not even gonna open it.
AliExpress is fucked. I don't have an account and the site just assumes I have one. No way to make one, you just have to sign in. I've never seen something so retarded in all my life. Like they don't want my money. WTF
>>18608473I got one. And I didn't get the Sugess, I went with the Red Star panda 1963 pilot. But I forgot to get a $2 bling watch. Fuck! I'm not paying $5 shipping for a $2 jeweled watch.
This fucking watch is nowhere to be found now. That site is so full of shit.
This may be the worst idea I've ever seen.
hahaha
Hey, thanks for all the help. This is what I ended up getting. Went a bit overboard, but I'm happy. This is the start of my collection after the Timex and that awful Invicta experience. Thanks for all the advice. I got a little of everything. How'd I do?
>>18608841I would've skipped the Berny, but at least it was cheap. Decent amount of variety though.
>>18608854Yeah, not sure why I got the Berny. I guess I hadn't pulled the trigger on the Seiko yet. I got the Addiesdive and Berny at the same time thinking that would be the end. At least it's red and that's different. I'm getting a strap pack from Amazon too so I can change up some of the bracelets now and then. I also want to replace the leather with fabric on my Timex Weekender just for a different look.
This is my daily watch. It's fantastic. It's always correct, because it corrects itself every night using the atomic clock radio signal broadcast out of Denver by the military. The battery isn't really a battery, it's a capacitor, and it lasts about 10 years — the watch is solar powered. Stainless steel frame, sapphire, of course. It takes a beating and keeps on trucking, trust me. My only complaint is that the alarm is very quiet.
I'm probably going to have to take the bracelet ones to the jeweler and have them all fitted to my wrist.
>>18608883Bracelets are pretty easy to resize yourself, and you should really learn how to do it because you might want to adjust them over the course of a year, when it's hot your wrist swells up slightly. A couple of bucks will get you some pins in various sizes, and better bracelets will use screws instead that are even easier to remove. One thing you have to consider with straps is that lug distances aren't all the same, so you should buy straps with the right distance instead of cheap packs that might not fit on half the watches you want to wear.
>>18608881Alarm??? Will any of my new watches have alarms? I didn't even expect that outside of digital. That's a cool watch. Somehow I got it in my head that I needed to get a mechanical if I was going to spend more. Of course then I realized you can barely get mechanical of quality for low hundreds. Then I thought if I'd get quartz I'd get a few Chinese; more bang for the buck. Casio is a solid brand though. I didn't know they made watches that cost so much. I guess they all do. But Casio and Timex probably don't have anything over $400 or $500, if that. I know that top of the line Marlin isn't that much. There's so much to know about watches. I hope I don't get too obsessed. I've bought whole cars for cheaper than this shopping spree. That's probably it for a long time. I think about half of my watches have sapphire. It's going to be so fun to take them all out and see the differences. I just hope none of the Chinese ones are fucked up. Especially the Red Star panda chrono. I'm not even gonna fuck with the chrono features. I don't know when or why I ever would. Maybe once to test. You ever use your chrono? I just think the little dials are super cool. I'm wishing I went with the Sugess with the lightning bolt second hand and saved $70 but I think 38mm vs. 40 on that will make all the difference. I don't like the lugs almost covering the wrist. That's why I got some 36s.
>>18608894Nah, alarms are fairly rare on analog watches, Casio are a little unique in that regard, they do a lot of models that are essentially digital with motorised hands. It's understandable to think mechanical is "better" because it costs more, but really, quartz is great as long as you avoid the really cheap stuff. Your blinged out watch will probably be a good example of how cheap quartz can look. Accuracy wise, it'll still outperform the Citizen, and most Rolexes.>But Casio and Timex probably don't have anything over $400 or $500, if that.G-shocks can go to some stupid prices, and even Timex have a 2k watch.>That's why I got some 36s.36mm is a nice size, I'm glad you didn't buy anything massive.
>>18608905I can't get over the popularity of G-shock. It seems like in the 90s those things were just about being sturdy, like the big yellow Walkmans you could get wet. But they were for a certain type of person who never struck me as watch enthusiast types or people with money. Something about digital just doesn't seem classy. I liked them until I was about 14. Then I switched to a hybrid with a cool dial and hands and a small digital at the bottom. Now I don't want any digital. I hate more digital stuff and technology the older I get.I need to check out these high end Timexes and Casios. That just seems like such an oxymoron thing to have. What kind of person gets a $2k Timex? Someone with a lot of super spendy watches already? Does Timex just make that to conflict with its own reputation? It's like that Omega/Swatch team up. Stuff I don't know enough about watches to understand. I'm curious about how loud the ticking will be. My Timex I can hear ticking from across the room. Maybe that's a quartz thing. And I don't remember which but one of the quartzes I got somehow has those sweeping seconds on it. I bet those make less pronounced noise, and maybe the sapphire lids will be more of a sound insulator. I don't think ticking is a bad thing at all. I like it. But is it considered a sign of some sort?
>>18608951Yeah, my main issue with G-shock is how bulky they are. I wish Casio made more watches between waveceptor and g-shock.The Timex is a collab watch so it's a little unfair. I guess the expensive ones are just for a very small market who like the brand and want to buy the "best" watch they make, usually with a gimmick like titanium. A few years back G-shock started doing metal squares at a premium, and then the Chinese just knocked them off and sold replacement bezels and bracelets so you could buy the plastic one and retrofit it.As for quartz ticking, you won't have any issues. Timex is famously extremely loud, basically any other quartz is going to be unnoticeable until you put it against your ear.
>>18608905I'm hoping the bling one will be massive. I almost spent $20 for one of those 55mm kinds, but couldn't justify it.
>>18607326>So auto self-wind is better than mechanical hand wind.False. Mechanical hand wind is thinner, and simpler so you are more likely to get a quality movement at the same price point. Plus winding a watch is extremely satisfying
>>18607415>Thank you!! This was the attitude that had me excited in the last thread. He's telling you what you want to hear. There are high end luxury Chinese brands, but they cost 4 figure money just like other luxury brands. When you're talking about cheap stuff, you want companies that have a history of delivering sufficient quality on their cheap stuff.Chinese just don't have it. That's why it's almost more important to be conservative on the cheap end than the higher end. Seiko, Citizen, Orient, Casio, and Timex are all quality brands that sell real watches under 300 that will stand the test of time. With a chinese brand you are rolling the dice. They may not even be trying to screw you, they still have shoddy QC and one person can get a clean piece while another person gets a dud. It's just not worth it when more reputable brands have a ton of variety at good price points. The price difference going chinese just isn't a big savings but you're taking a huge risk.
>>18609145Well, it's too late now. We'll see what my dice roll got me.
>>18607209This is the correct answer.
>>18609164No it isn't. OP stated 'automatic movement'. I don't know how those silly digitals are so widely respected. That one is even uglier than others. White? Silver or black I can see. Still, I'm not 12 anymore.
So I don't understand this at all, but I was looking at this watch again and for some reason now the lid opened. I guess the jeweler must have loosened it or something. So I was able to move the hands but the battery is long dead. What I don't understand is how it's a chronograph with only one knob. It can't possibly control all those dials in there. The website's specs also say it has luminance on the hands, but it does not. So it'll cost $25 to have the battery put in, and I'm almost too embarrassed to take it back in there. It's such an ugly, stupid watch. But I never did give it a chance because the lid wouldn't come off and allow me to set the time. I'm never going to like wearing it because it's fucking 46mm and the canteen lid digs into the back of my hand when I bend my wrist. But maybe I'll repurpose it somehow. I can grind the lugs off and hang it from the mirror in my car or something. Make it into a pocketwatch or attach it to a backpack or bicycle. I still like something about the design. I did buy it. But it's got a guilty pleasure kind of trashy feel to it. Like it's something a really dumb guy who thinks Hummers are cool would wear. But it's just not a good wearing watch at all for me. I can find some use for it though. Or maybe my nephew will think it's cool. I'd give it away if I thought anyone would enjoy it.
>>18609392Well, that's simple, it's not a chronograph. 2 dials are for the day and date, and the other little dial is for the second hand.I don't really think there's anything useful you can do with this.
>>18609402The website says it's a chronograph though. I didn't think it could be. If it is capable of displaying the time there's something I can do with it. I'm now looking forward to going to town on it with a diamond belt grinder.
>>18609402So the bottom dial just always spins as the second hand? that's pretty cool I guess. Maybe I knew that back when I bought it. Maybe that's why I bought it. Must have been just the right angle or something. Still seems like something dumb to do, not researching sizes or anything at all about watches.Hell, now that I'm kind of becoming a 'watch guy' and started a little collection, this Invicta should ALWAYS be saved as a reminder. The beginning of "my journey", as that guy Teddy with the videos would say. I'm actually taking a shine to it now when I see it in that light. I legit thought I was getting a deal on a $500 watch. And I must have looked at dozens of those 90% off ones that year. As soon as I opened the box I knew it would look fucking stupid on me. And I realized I'd have to wear it on my right hand to be comfortable at work. And I knew I didn't ever want anyone to see it on me.
>>18609164>>18607209Just added this to my newest Amazon order. Are you happy now?I'm gonna stop buying watches for a while. I'm in nearly $800 at this point. Enough is enough.
>>18609557This may be one of the ugliest ones. At least get gold bracelet or all black. That's just gold plastic.

>>18609557>>18609577Canceled that one and went for this one. Same price. I don't give a rip either way. Now I have a Casio digital and don't need more.
>>18609600It's $47.80 now. A bit flashy for my taste but that's a good deal.I just bought watch 8 and I'm going to take a break now. I won't rule out a Russian watch in the future though.
>>18609598I hope the dial doesn't actually have 'keep up with global fashion' printed on it. LOL
At least six more days until my Seiko arrives.
Should I buy this??
>>18610833If you're going to buy a quartz citizen, at least get an eco-drive. Solar quartz is their forte.

>>18611304Yeah. OP should have saved a few more years and dropped at least $2k on a decent starter watch. That collection is pathetic. I don't even own a watch yet and I have really good taste.Once I get $3,500 I know where to start. It's not a cheap hobby, but I'm not about to buy some shitter. lol
a decent starter watch costs $200
I don't buy ali watches, but i saw these IXDAO and they seem quite tasteful.
I just made an offer on this. He wanted $69 I bid $54. I'll get it for $68 including shipping if seller goes for it.
And I just bought this one too. FUCK! I can't stop impulse buying these "cheap" watches!I'm sure once they start arriving the whole obsession will begin losing its luster.
>>18611374Show me one. I'm sure none of the ones I bought qualify in your eyes. What would YOU drop $200 on to get started?
>>18611396just stop
>>18611401No. I'll get ONE more watch. $200, /fa/ approved. Just tell me which one.
>>18611403
>>18611405What is that? Is that a video that tells me which one to get? Not even a link. Do better.
So is this guy for real or just another obnoxious "personality" that's gonna be hounding the decaying remains of this board for the following months?
>>18611416What does that mean? "For real"? I've bought every watch I said I have. Who am I hounding? I'm here in my thread discussing watches I want or have already bought. When we started I had a Timex and a stupid Invicta and now I've got 9 or 10 mostly new and mostly well-researched purchases in transit. Have I somehow offended the delicate sensibilities of this fragile community? If so please enlighten me.
