hello,
I recently managed to save up $89,000. Which are currently sitting inside my bank at a decent 3.6% APY.
With that amount of money in the side for emergency, I am finally comfortable in buying something more up-market and, say, "Luxury" if you will to praise myself in a way for my effort and hard work. A Reminder of said work if you will.

Because of the aforementioned humble $89,000 in saving, I can comfortably afford something between the $150-200 range. I've been eyeing some Seiko's but if you have something better in mind, please let me know. I'm very new to watches.
If absolutely necessary, I can stretch my budget all the way to $250 as well.

I have $99,000 actually. And I'm looking at all kinds of Seikos under $200 because I'm not an idiot who spends $5,000 on a watch. lol

Thanks for starting me a new thread, anon. Mine is almost to 300 anyway and only one of my watches has arrived. I'll just take over this thread to keep the party going. I know you think you're being sarcastic but you nailed it. I have the money and I want to spend $150 to $200 on a watch. Seiko or Citizen or maybe this Oriental.
OR
I could try my hand at AliExpress again. No watch snobs in this thread please. You won't convince me to spend a large chunk of my money on a watch.
>>
>>18613989
This thread was made by a seething poorfag from /wt/ who got in a huff when anon didn't want to spend thousands on a wrist shitter despite having nearly 100k saved up lol. Seethe more, poor.

NTA. No watch is worth more than 100 dollars in the modern world with automated manufacturing.
>>
>>18613989
Buy a 5k Rolex and then immediately sell it for immediate 20-30% gain. Flipping shit is the way to become rich very quickly.
>>
The thing is, you're nearing the right budget but still a tad under. Around 300 you start getting interesting stuff. You could also look second hand.
Seiko 5 current or vintage, some Citizens like the tsuyosa, Orient, some non wanky micro brands (hard) and of course AliExpress if you do your research and look for gems.
Above 500 if just feels like a complete circle jerk. I would of course love to flash a nice Tudor on my wrist, but 4 figs on my wrist just feel so unnecessary I don't get it. But that could happen, who knows.

I'm sure it's just that easy. All I need is some get-rich-quick scheme to invest in. If there were actually a way to turn my money into way more money without risk I'd be doing it.

I know my relationship with the universe. I drop $5k on a Rolex I bet I don't recoup 75% of it. And I've heard watch dealers vet the people they sell to in order to avoid that kind of shit.
They just did a 60 Minutes on nice watches and tariffs and all.

I bought the one with 84 in the name. Seems to be just as popular a digital Casio as the 91. They're both $20 and I can't really tell the difference. I can afford to get the 91 also if I fucked up. lol

I thought so but my 36mm Seiko 5 looks like a ladies watch on my wrist so I'm sending it back for a 39mm I like just as much.
I was shocked at how small it was. But now I know. My Timex Weekender is 40 and it's just right because the lugs aren't too big. Big lugs and I want 38mm. I accidentally bought a 46mm years ago and I hate it.
>>
>>18613989
Get a Weekdater. Alternatively go to sakurawatches.com and buy a solar quartz from the Seiko Selection line and be done with watches for your life.
>>
>>18614006
Why? They just look like EVERY OTHER DIVER. If I'm gonna spend $300 on a diver (which I won't), I'll get a San Martin.
>>
>>18614103
I'm taking it easy for now. I got a lot of watches and I've fallen out of love with a couple of the spendier ones and canceled and sent a couple back already.

But if I decide I still wanna do this watch thing I'm ABSOLUTELY going to want everyone's advice on how to spend $300 on one watch. I could comfortably buy maybe 4 a year. And then decide if I'm going to allot $100 a month for watches that I can go even higher. But I really don't think I ever will. The one thing I keep saying is that $500 will probably always be my max. I'm just not comfortable walking around with that much money on my wrist. I don't like watches that much yet and I don't think I will.

These are all they have matching that description. Okay I guess. Is it the last watch I'll ever need just because of the power and the accuracy?
I guess the black one's okay if I could live with 37mm. I'd have to try it on.
You make a good point probably. I'll keep it in mind.
>>
>>18614333
And every weekdater I see is old and dinged up for $300. Way more for better condition. What exactly is so great about them? They all look the same; like a clock you'd see in an old man's tool shed or something. Pretty cool I guess. Is it just a great movement or what's so special?
There seem to be all these "classic" watches and "must haves for every serious collector", but when I see them I'm just not impressed. Why does everyone have the same taste?
>>
Based OP - I just spent 350k euro on an apartment in cash and the most expensive watch I have is a quartz PRX - I wear my 50 euro casios more.

How about one of those steel electronic casios? The price should be affordable by now. It's a thinner version of A168 with some fancy finish.
A1000DN-7 has brushed metal for the face, A1000D-7EF has mother of pearl. As for the latter, I don't recommend it if you can't send it back and get a refund. This material may be anything, from a nice toned down iridescence to pink stains and white cracks looking like broken glass.
>>
>>18614346
Don't listen to anyone bringing up the weekdater, it's always the same polish poorfag who has one because it's the only watch he could afford that is vaguely remarkable. He will shoehorn it into every possible discussion no matter what.
Ignore all mentions of the weekdater, always. It's an old boring Seiko and its only two remarkable features aren't even interesting.

This is my daily driver right now. I've had it about 18 months and I love it. I'm honestly not sure even with all the cool new watches coming in the mail that any of them will dethrone the Weekender here. It's the perfect size if not a touch big for me, but the shape and design is so perfect. I love everything about it. If I hate every watch I bought I'll still love this one. $50, maybe $60 it cost me. And we all know Timex is dependable. My dad wore Timex and shaved with Barbasol and so do I.
I'm excited for my Seiko and Addiesdive and Milatado and Red Star to get here, but my Timex will always be number one.

This pic feel genuine and soulful.
it has the feel of a guy who is at the top and has made his dreams a reality.
It's.. It's like he didn't find the watch. The watch and him found each other to create this beautiful moment in life and he was nice enough to give us a snapshot.. A glimpse of what life really can be.
He is in his lane and focused. Nothing will stop him from getting into further heights.. With this watch as his companion, anything is possible, it is just a matter of.. Time.

For that price point I think the Orient Bambino Classic is the best, see pic.

>Seiko 5s
There's actually two types of Seiko 5s, the older type (which is in your pic) and the newer type which is more expensive, and everyone complains about how Seiko is making their Seiko 5s more expensive now. I actually like the more expensive type, even though it's 100 dollars more, just outside your stretch budget. If you're happy with a dress watch on a leather strap then forget this and go for the Orient Bambino Classic I mentioned above. But if you'd like a steel watch with metal bracelet, then I recommend one of the newer Seiko 5s. Maybe the older Seiko 5s are fine, but I don't have one, I have the newer one. You can easily tell the difference between old Seiko 5s and new ones by looking at the logo. The old Seiko 5s, like in your picture, have a 5 in a shield underneath where it says Seiko. On the new ones, underneath where it says Seiko there is a 5 that looks like it's lying on its side and is twisted almost into an S shape, no shield.
Happy hunting

You should stop buying watches already, clearly you don't know what you are doing and you are buying them just because they look cool. You were meant to start with buying one or two and I was glad to help you explaining the mechanisms and what to look for but I'm sure you will regret buying most of them. Most of these won't look that great in person, you should spend more time researching, maybe visiting some stores in person and not impulse buying on the internet. Also I hate to be that guy but with all the money you spent buying all those watches you could have bought one from a solid brand like an Hamilton Khaki field or whatever for a few hundreds. You can argue all you want that it's better to get more instead of one and that they all work the same but the finishing and the craft on good manufactured products is very noticeable and I'd like you to compare some of the cheap watch you bought for fun with some of the higher priced ones, the devil is in the details. Those are just my 2 cents though you are free to do what you want.

galaxy watch/apple watch

watches are a fucking meme and you're not signaling anything to anyone meaningful anyway
>>
This reminds me of that /o/ meme graph where it said that you had to make 1 million per year in net profit to be able to afford a basic prius.
>>
>>18614410
No. I don't want some $80-$300 digital Casio. This is the exact watch you're supposed to get. The cheapest fucking one. Don't ask me why.
>>
>>18614576
Yes, I disagree fully with the path you and several others want to take. And I fully stand behind buying cheap, cool looking watches. I'm not going to get anything better for ME by choosing a "solid brand". There's no such thing as knowing what you're doing. I do know what I'm doing; I'm buying watches that make me happy. If I'd have followed your advice I'd be ignoring someone else's. What did you explain to me? That I need an NH35 and sapphire crystal? Or that I need those things but also in a brand name watch? Or that if I'm going to spend so little I need to stick with quartz? Because I actually did most of that. I just didn't stick to any one person's advice fully.
This is about me. I know most of you would start with some $400 watch you spend all month deciding on, but that's not for me. I spent many hours researching a lot of watches. And I didn't buy any that are universally considered shitty. Some will think so. I don't care. I don't care about the detail devils. I don't like watches enough right now to drop $400 on one. But I think by dropping $700 on 9 I will get to experience a lot of kinds of watches; all of which are nowhere near as shitty as some of you would have me believe.

Just get a Weekdater.
Jokes aside you should send all the watches back and buy a new watch IN A MONTH. Do one month of research. See which watches even exist out there, get familiar with a few brands, see what the world has to offer, then pick something you really like and wear it for 5 to 10 years at least, and that's it.
I would suggest you buy a quality solar quartz watch, radio controlled if possible, from Seiko or Citizen for about twice your current budget (500). You will have a good watch, a very good watch in fact, that will cover all your needs and fit all the occasions with a simple change of a strap. Look into Casio Lineage first, it's within your budget (you're unlucky, just a week ago i gave away my Casio Lineage to a friend, i could have sold you that one...). Then look into Citizen Eco-Drive, should also be within your budget. And as i suggested earlier look into Seiko solar quartz watches as well, they have a few good ones too, within your budget too. The one on the pic for example is very legible, has solar powered quartz and the whole dial glows at night. Like i said, take your time and look around, really look around and find something you really like.
>>
>>18614636
I wish you could argue directly with the people telling me those brands are total shit.
>>
>>18614642
Yes, I found a few watches I really like so I bought them. I have no interest in buying a $500 watch at this point. I'm not that kind of person. I'm probably going to continue to wear my Timex after all my watches arrive. It already is a really good watch that will last me years and has everything I need. Having the battery replaced every couple years or having to adjust the time are not hassles to me. Those Seikos are fine. I saw them and they're fine. They aren't gorgeous. They seem to have practical additions to them but I don't see the value.
It doesn't matter how much I explain this, none of you seem to get it. You just think I really fucked up because I didn't do what you'd have done. And I'm telling you again I have no desire to have a $500 watch and I don't aspire to have a Rolex or a Patek or a Weekdater or a Speedmaster or a 'hamilton khaki'. That shit doesn't impress me. And that statement is not wrong. I don't need to be impressed by what impresses you. It doesn't mean I'm missing anything or doing it wrong.
I feel a lot better about my purchases than I would have had I bought one or two watches. I guess you can't even imagine thinking that way.
That's how I feel when I see people with certain red hats. And they feel the same about me. And that's what makes horse racing. Good day.
>>
I'm trying to understand.

I'm kind of a movie snob. So I guess I can see this from the other perspective. It's like you guys are pitching the the art house Oscar winners and I'm saying "thanks anyway, but I'll stick with my Adam Sandler flicks and my straight-to-DVD National Lampoon 'Dorm Boobs' movies. My taste is fine!"

But at the end of the day I'm going to realize that I can't change someone's taste. I can tell them how much better Punch Drunk Love is than every Happy Madison project combined, but it's simply not true in their eyes.

>I have no desire to have a $500 watch
It just matters because you would get more watch for your money, much more. But i understand. Can you post a list of the watches you ordered? Maybe i find you better alternatives that cost the same, that you may not know about.

I'm pretty sure this is the final inventory. Feels like I'm forgetting one somewhere though. I've got a bid on another Seiko 5 on ebay.

I canceled a Citizen open heart mechanical (NH9134-83X) I'd ordered for $204 because I fell out of love with it and it was on backorder.
I returned my first Seiko 5 today because I didn't like the arabic day wheel or the 36mm size. All these details are spread over all the watch threads kind of, with pictures to match.

There's nothing on this collage that I'm going to cancel at this point or send back unless it doesn't work. I'm happy with my choices now and any advice anyone wants to give will go towards my next shopping spree. I'm not opposed to spending $300, maybe $350 if there's something REALLY amazing that I cannot live without.
I wear that Timex every day and that may not even change when I get these delivered. I'm a bit impulsive but this whole thing is winding down. Haven't had the desire to buy any watches today.
>>
With the $7 shipping for the $3 bling gag watch, the total is $639. Which is a bit less than I spend the first time for fewer watches I liked less. I've kept four from the original order and changed out the rest.
The "Orient" Tourbillon might be the dumbest choice, but if it works at all I won't be upset. $45 isn't much money. I know I could have gotten another Timex or Casio or even a better China shitter with that money, but I don't care. I can drop $45 more if there's anything I missed.
But for the most part I think this is a good selection that should last me a while.
