He's my revised collection of shitters as of last night. All AFFORDABLE, which is what this thread is about. But that never stops the poorfag snobs from shitposting.
So let the insults begin.

Which ONE starter watch should I have gotten with the money? Or two? How stupid am I for buying a bunch of stuff I spent days researching and won't even mind if it's not great?
The Armitron arrives today and the rest are in various stages of shipment. No more cancellations. I'm only going to send things back if they legitimately don't work.
>>
>>18615061
I thinknthe one affordable starter everybody should get is the addiesdive khaki field. Should be like $65, has a nh35, sapphire coating, ar, very nice dial and hands, and you can just treat it like a true beater which a field watch should be. Looks good on the metal bracelet it comes with which is surprisingly nice as well as leather and nato straps. That one would be my reccomendation to everyone.

NH35 automatic movement and sapphire for $65? Show me where. I dropped more than that on the addies quartz.
I got a variety pack of straps to play around with once the watches start showing up. I guess the Chinese ones might take a while. I know the Seiko has shipped because I bought it from a watch site.

>>18615071
I don't see why you guys get the blank generic dials. It just seems cheaper and shadier than a knockoff brand. It needs something, if not even just your own custom logo.
>>
>>18615076
That's okay. I'm not that into bright white plain watches like that. It's such a common style. Doesn't look all that different from the one above it.
I certainly wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on one. Looks okay on you though. Just the right size. 40mm?
Quartz? What's so amazing about it?
>>
>>18615081

With that "classic" oyster case that every other fucking watch has. And what a bracelet. I'm sure it's so much better because it's on a $500 watch.
It just looks like every other watch. It's fine.
Your filename says 34mm. Can I add that to your list of available sizes?

LOL, I went to their website and it's just that same watch, over and over and over in different dial designs. Why did you settle on that watch brand? What specifically made that the $500 watch for you?
Has anyone taken your advice and bought one?

Here's the watch tiers in USD or EUR:
Under 50: Digital Casio classics, no frills
50-100: Respectable quartz from Casio, maybe a few "respectable" Timex
300: Decent enthusiast entry level automatics (Seiko, Citizen, Orient).
300-600: nicer versions of 300 dollar watches
600-1000: 300 dollar watches pretending to be something the aren't
1000-2000: indie watches pretending to be more creative than they are
2000-3000: compromised luxury watches
3000: quality begins
30000: truly novel innovations begin
60000: 30000 dollar watches in precious metals
300000: minute repeaters
There's no real value improvement from 300 to 3000, you're just paying for different marketing stories.

That's a dumb statement, especially for someone snobby who thinks inexpensive watches "don't work". A $36 quartz watch will actually work far better than whatever $3k watch you have a boner for this week.
Most of you are envious 3rd worlders with no watches anyway, so I don't care what you think. I bought like 18 watches this week. What do you have to show for yourself?

Because for 36$ most people won't bother returning it
>Do you think a company making watches as long as Armitron sells brand new non-working watches?
Maybe not systematically but they clearly aren't spending on quality assurance.
>A $36 quartz watch will actually work far better than whatever $3k watch you have a boner for this week.
A 20$ Casio will work better than both and you can rely on it to work for years and years.
>I bought like 18 watches this week. What do you have to show for yourself?
What will you do with 18 watches in a week? You have 1 wrist. I have 1 sports watch, 1 business watch, 1 dress watch, and 1 titanium beater that I've accumulated over a year's time, and that was fast but just because I was fleshing out my collection for the first time. Only one I side eye is the titanium beater because the dial/hands combo is illegible, so I might get a replacement for that sometime in the next 6 months if I see a good replacement.

Thanks. Pasting stuff together is fun. I wish I had reason to do it more often.
3 of them have arrived and I'm happy with them but they're all just plain quartzes with metal bracelets that are too big to wear. The Militado has lume that you have to blast with bright light to get it to work. I don't expect it to stay bright through the night. But also it came in the mail at night and I keep it pretty dim in the house with soft light. Maybe a day in the sun will be different. I'm not sure how that stuff works but I've taken my Timex's Indiglo for granted. I'm excited for the boring Berny to show up just so I can wear it. Same with the cheap Casio. Haven't had a digital in years. The Addiesdive came with the screwdriver looking poker thing for fucking with the bracelet links, but it looks like I need a vice thing to hold the watch down. I'm ordering a $12 bracelet link kit and contemplating just taking them all down to the jeweler to have him do it. The Seiko and the Seagull will still have bracelets too. I already think I prefer a leather or maybe even one of those fabric straps. I may play around with different ones at some point.
I'm excited for the mechanicals to get here as I've never owned one.
Watches are fun.

And I really like how this thing looks, too. What are my options? The endlinks flare out to 24mm, but the actual lug piece is 12mm.
I'm thinking either take it to a watchmaker to permanently remove one of the sealed links or find an Edifice resin strap that matches those lug proportions.

Clasp measurements are 18mm (microadjust side) x 8mm (endlink side). They're not making this easy for me.
>>
>>18616674
Well the alternatives are finding a compatible bracelet somehow or drilling out one or two links.
Makes me wonder if anyone ever did something like that with a drill press or even a mill.
>>
>>18616677
I'm going to take it to a local watchmaker tomorrow and see what they have to say. Worst-case scenario is either resorting to an AliExpress strap or selling the watch.
>>
>>18616473
Should've bought JDM. I don't know if Casio do it, or even if Seiko do it anymore, but all my vintage Seiko stuff has better adjustment for small wrists if the watch was made for the Japanese market, and a longer clasp for the western one so you can fit it on massive wrists.

As for your issue, you're fucked. If it wasn't tapered, a dirty hack would've been cutting off the end link, I've shortened bracelets like that before with a hacksaw. You can't cut off the last links in the chain because those are the ones with the pin holes. There's so much room in there that I don't think a shorter clasp will save you, and finding a compatible bracelet is gong to be close to impossible.
>>
>>18616685
This specific colorway is so damned hard to find that I resorted to getting it off Creationwatches. They're based in Singapore, and the full label on the box is EFS-S650DC-1ADF, so I don't know if this was meant for the SEA market or what.
Any other site that had it was based in Europe, so I would've had the exact same problem if I ordered from them.
Guess I should get ready to sell this thing.
>>
>>18616687
The one listing I found through Buyee even describes it as an overseas model not available in Japan, so Casio made it purely for the Euro market. Seems like I have no choice but to cut my losses.
>>
>>18616689
If it makes you feel any better, those plated cases get worn down to bare shiny metal pretty fast anyway, if you want a black watch you're better off going full ceramic and risking it chipping if anything hard hits it.

>>18616473

>>
>>18616687
here's a stupid idea:
get a cheap, thin rubber strap and cut the clasp off, then affix it to the interior of the bracelet somehow. you can get very thin galvanized wire at a hardware store, maybe that could work. you'd have to taper the ends and trim the length until just enough material is left to fill the gap.
similar to a jewler resizing a ring.
not sure about the attachment but might be worth a shot

I want another shitter
>>
>>18616966
Cool. I might buy that bottom one. I like nice shitters. I have a couple in the mail right now.
>>
>>18616946
That's neat. How much?
>>
>>18616973
Priceless.
>>
>>18616972
The sellita version is like $360. The no lume on the date wheel may make me insane though.
>>
>>18616975
So you don't know? Sad.
>>
>>18616986
You need to know what day it is in the middle of the night? Silly.
>>
>>18616988
It's the symmetry, I'm pretty sure the doxa clone at the top has a lumed datewheel - although nh35 wheels are easy to get in different lumes and colors and styles

I was worried it was going to be one of the good ones I ordered. The email didn't say.

Do people show off a lot of watches after Christmas around here? I figured people would be buying new cheap watches left and right this time of year. And receiving some as gifts too.
>>
>>18617366
lol
>>
>>18617377
Why is this funny? Seems like a lot of window shoppers and people with old watches they've had for years. And shitposting incels who will probably never get a watch.

Oh. It would still bug me. Looks all heavy at the end. Maybe it looks cool in motion. Is it a smooth auto sweeping gradually at 5 or more BPS?
That whole watch would bug me. I don't like the flared lugs like that taking away from the roundness of the casing. I don't like numbered bezels either.
But that's what makes us all different. I'd still wear it. It's a black Seiko and you really can't go wrong. We all just know what shape we like and every other little detail too. The silly stuff I've disqualified watches over... That's why it's cool that they make so many fucking designs.

You ever wonder where they all go? Who buys them? Some I see I can't imagine anyone wearing them. Some entire styles of watch I've never once seen anyone out wearing or anyone mentioning owning. There are tens of thousands of selections and for each one you can't imagine even being commissioned for design, some weirdo out there owns and loves it.
I just don't know where that magical land is. Who are these people?

What do you guys think of a wood watch? The rest of these are too colorful and hippie looking for me, but this understated one is classy, and I bet pretty lightweight.
I'm going to get one. Maybe not a $30 one off Amazon, but a wooded watch of some kind for not too much money.
I love buying watches so much. I've yet to have any regrets. And not much regret can be felt in the low hundreds and sub $50 level.

And I especially hate how these guys are always wearing suits. Like someone buying these embarrassing watches you wouldn't be caught dead in in a business environment is wearing them with his fancy suit to the big merger meeting.

Yeah, right! lol
>>
>>18616491
what's baffling is you haven't figured oceanus is the only good casio aside from a168 and maybe the a gshock square
>>
>>18617583
people also wear suits to fancy parties, not that you would know anything about that
>>
>>18616927
Nice, I have this exact Zarya, still works fine, mine is supposedly from 1989/1990 though it's been hard to confirm, the paperwork I got with it doesn't really seem to match
>>
>>18617909
Duro and 5000s gshocks are the only good ones

I can imagine a steampunk cocktail attire in which such a design would be loved and worn with mixed era 19th centry suits

The same still applies. No one who would own a suit would purchase such a watch. I maintain that no one really ever purchases or wears them, so it's even more retarded to advertise them on men in suits.
Why do you feel the need to argue when you all agree with me? Those watches I posted are lame and no one wears them with suits. Just agree and thank me for posting what you were thinking and we can move on. There's no argument here. We're all on the same side.
>>
>>18617579
I'm not sure why but wooden watch seems very off to me, almost repulsive. Maybe because it supposed to be this mechanical, precise and refined thing and wood is the exact opposite.
>>
>>18618008
>Says it's a Day-Date
>Has neither a Day nor Date
were they even trying?
>>
>>18618000
Exactly. Any party with a relaxed atmosphere would be great for a funny watch like that.
>>
>>18618018
I appreciate your confidence in your opinion, I too often believe that everyone must be secretly believing what I believe and just messing with me. But why are you so confident in this particular opinion? It doesn't seem obvious to me at all that no one would purchase such watch. Most watches that look like that are actually quite cheap and worth it to be a conversation piece at a party.
>>
>>18617994
I really don't like this trend of weird waffle patterns on watches.
>>
>>18616975
Yeah, also like this, what's with all the waffle watches. PRX really did a number on things
>>
>>18617579
check out bobo bird
>>
>>18618381
yeah it always just seems like a cheap way not to offer a sunburst dial
>>
>>18618040
How is wood "the exact opposite" of precise and refined compared to some other material? The fucking gears aren't made of wood. You've never seen a grandfather clock? Should those be made of titanium? LOL
