He's my revised collection of shitters as of last night. All AFFORDABLE, which is what this thread is about. But that never stops the poorfag snobs from shitposting.
So let the insults begin.

Which ONE starter watch should I have gotten with the money? Or two? How stupid am I for buying a bunch of stuff I spent days researching and won't even mind if it's not great?
The Armitron arrives today and the rest are in various stages of shipment. No more cancellations. I'm only going to send things back if they legitimately don't work.
>>
>>18615061
I thinknthe one affordable starter everybody should get is the addiesdive khaki field. Should be like $65, has a nh35, sapphire coating, ar, very nice dial and hands, and you can just treat it like a true beater which a field watch should be. Looks good on the metal bracelet it comes with which is surprisingly nice as well as leather and nato straps. That one would be my reccomendation to everyone.

NH35 automatic movement and sapphire for $65? Show me where. I dropped more than that on the addies quartz.
I got a variety pack of straps to play around with once the watches start showing up. I guess the Chinese ones might take a while. I know the Seiko has shipped because I bought it from a watch site.

>>18615071
I don't see why you guys get the blank generic dials. It just seems cheaper and shadier than a knockoff brand. It needs something, if not even just your own custom logo.
>>
>>18615076
That's okay. I'm not that into bright white plain watches like that. It's such a common style. Doesn't look all that different from the one above it.
I certainly wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on one. Looks okay on you though. Just the right size. 40mm?
Quartz? What's so amazing about it?
>>
>>18615081

With that "classic" oyster case that every other fucking watch has. And what a bracelet. I'm sure it's so much better because it's on a $500 watch.
It just looks like every other watch. It's fine.
Your filename says 34mm. Can I add that to your list of available sizes?

LOL, I went to their website and it's just that same watch, over and over and over in different dial designs. Why did you settle on that watch brand? What specifically made that the $500 watch for you?
Has anyone taken your advice and bought one?

No, you'll at least get a saphire coating. You can buy replacement crystals on ali express and put a replacement crystal on watches as well. They're like $25 to buy a single crystal.

Here's the watch tiers in USD or EUR:
Under 50: Digital Casio classics, no frills
50-100: Respectable quartz from Casio, maybe a few "respectable" Timex
300: Decent enthusiast entry level automatics (Seiko, Citizen, Orient).
300-600: nicer versions of 300 dollar watches
600-1000: 300 dollar watches pretending to be something the aren't
1000-2000: indie watches pretending to be more creative than they are
2000-3000: compromised luxury watches
3000: quality begins
30000: truly novel innovations begin
60000: 30000 dollar watches in precious metals
300000: minute repeaters
There's no real value improvement from 300 to 3000, you're just paying for different marketing stories.

That's a dumb statement, especially for someone snobby who thinks inexpensive watches "don't work". A $36 quartz watch will actually work far better than whatever $3k watch you have a boner for this week.
Most of you are envious 3rd worlders with no watches anyway, so I don't care what you think. I bought like 18 watches this week. What do you have to show for yourself?

Because for 36$ most people won't bother returning it
>Do you think a company making watches as long as Armitron sells brand new non-working watches?
Maybe not systematically but they clearly aren't spending on quality assurance.
>A $36 quartz watch will actually work far better than whatever $3k watch you have a boner for this week.
A 20$ Casio will work better than both and you can rely on it to work for years and years.
>I bought like 18 watches this week. What do you have to show for yourself?
What will you do with 18 watches in a week? You have 1 wrist. I have 1 sports watch, 1 business watch, 1 dress watch, and 1 titanium beater that I've accumulated over a year's time, and that was fast but just because I was fleshing out my collection for the first time. Only one I side eye is the titanium beater because the dial/hands combo is illegible, so I might get a replacement for that sometime in the next 6 months if I see a good replacement.

Thanks. Pasting stuff together is fun. I wish I had reason to do it more often.
3 of them have arrived and I'm happy with them but they're all just plain quartzes with metal bracelets that are too big to wear. The Militado has lume that you have to blast with bright light to get it to work. I don't expect it to stay bright through the night. But also it came in the mail at night and I keep it pretty dim in the house with soft light. Maybe a day in the sun will be different. I'm not sure how that stuff works but I've taken my Timex's Indiglo for granted. I'm excited for the boring Berny to show up just so I can wear it. Same with the cheap Casio. Haven't had a digital in years. The Addiesdive came with the screwdriver looking poker thing for fucking with the bracelet links, but it looks like I need a vice thing to hold the watch down. I'm ordering a $12 bracelet link kit and contemplating just taking them all down to the jeweler to have him do it. The Seiko and the Seagull will still have bracelets too. I already think I prefer a leather or maybe even one of those fabric straps. I may play around with different ones at some point.
I'm excited for the mechanicals to get here as I've never owned one.
Watches are fun.

And I really like how this thing looks, too. What are my options? The endlinks flare out to 24mm, but the actual lug piece is 12mm.
I'm thinking either take it to a watchmaker to permanently remove one of the sealed links or find an Edifice resin strap that matches those lug proportions.

Clasp measurements are 18mm (microadjust side) x 8mm (endlink side). They're not making this easy for me.
>>
>>18616674
Well the alternatives are finding a compatible bracelet somehow or drilling out one or two links.
Makes me wonder if anyone ever did something like that with a drill press or even a mill.
>>
>>18616677
I'm going to take it to a local watchmaker tomorrow and see what they have to say. Worst-case scenario is either resorting to an AliExpress strap or selling the watch.
>>
>>18616473
Should've bought JDM. I don't know if Casio do it, or even if Seiko do it anymore, but all my vintage Seiko stuff has better adjustment for small wrists if the watch was made for the Japanese market, and a longer clasp for the western one so you can fit it on massive wrists.

As for your issue, you're fucked. If it wasn't tapered, a dirty hack would've been cutting off the end link, I've shortened bracelets like that before with a hacksaw. You can't cut off the last links in the chain because those are the ones with the pin holes. There's so much room in there that I don't think a shorter clasp will save you, and finding a compatible bracelet is gong to be close to impossible.
>>
>>18616685
This specific colorway is so damned hard to find that I resorted to getting it off Creationwatches. They're based in Singapore, and the full label on the box is EFS-S650DC-1ADF, so I don't know if this was meant for the SEA market or what.
Any other site that had it was based in Europe, so I would've had the exact same problem if I ordered from them.
Guess I should get ready to sell this thing.
>>
>>18616687
The one listing I found through Buyee even describes it as an overseas model not available in Japan, so Casio made it purely for the Euro market. Seems like I have no choice but to cut my losses.
>>
>>18616689
If it makes you feel any better, those plated cases get worn down to bare shiny metal pretty fast anyway, if you want a black watch you're better off going full ceramic and risking it chipping if anything hard hits it.

>>18616643

>>18616223

>>18616473

>>
>>18616687
here's a stupid idea:
get a cheap, thin rubber strap and cut the clasp off, then affix it to the interior of the bracelet somehow. you can get very thin galvanized wire at a hardware store, maybe that could work. you'd have to taper the ends and trim the length until just enough material is left to fill the gap.
similar to a jewler resizing a ring.
not sure about the attachment but might be worth a shot

Oh. It would still bug me. Looks all heavy at the end. Maybe it looks cool in motion. Is it a smooth auto sweeping gradually at 5 or more BPS?
That whole watch would bug me. I don't like the flared lugs like that taking away from the roundness of the casing. I don't like numbered bezels either.
But that's what makes us all different. I'd still wear it. It's a black Seiko and you really can't go wrong. We all just know what shape we like and every other little detail too. The silly stuff I've disqualified watches over... That's why it's cool that they make so many fucking designs.

You ever wonder where they all go? Who buys them? Some I see I can't imagine anyone wearing them. Some entire styles of watch I've never once seen anyone out wearing or anyone mentioning owning. There are tens of thousands of selections and for each one you can't imagine even being commissioned for design, some weirdo out there owns and loves it.
I just don't know where that magical land is. Who are these people?

I'm going to get one. Maybe not a $30 one off Amazon, but a wooded watch of some kind for not too much money.
I love buying watches so much. I've yet to have any regrets. And not much regret can be felt in the low hundreds and sub $50 level.

I bought a Casio and the more I interact with it the more I find it bizarre

I like the overall look of it but the actual clock portion is quite small (the attached picture is deceptive, probably deliberately so because the actual watch is much small or this guy has the world's smallest wrist). But why does it need to perpetually tell you about its water resistance? Or its light? It is an ad for a watch you have already bought.

I keep wondering if I am being stupid and it is like laptop stickers that you can just take off but no, a good portion of the watch's face is just listing features. It makes no sense!

Most bang for your buck. You can get a really great Chinese watch for $100 or two watches as good as the brand watch you'd get for that money. Which really won't be much for $100. You can get a pretty great Casio diver for under $100. But I'd get a Pagani or Addiesdive. So many just amazing watches for that price.
>>
>>18619152
I got an Addiesdive in the simple cursive style. The blank dial they offer is too generic looking. Some people love that they can get that from China, but I need something there. Ideally I'd design my own, which some manufacturers will do for a price. Others make their own at home. That's cool too.

Buyimg these is almost pointless though. You have no bramd ethos. At least citizen amd casio have brand ethos.
>>
>>18621734
>brand ethos

What a crock of shit. I bought a Seiko and it arrived busted. Where's their "ethos"? You can't see or touch this ethos. Is it really worth more than quality materials? Ethos instead of sapphire crystal. Ethos instead of a quality bracelet.
You buy watches for whatever brand prestige you think they impart, and I think the brand is the least important part about the watches I buy. I tried a brand watch (beyond Casio and Timex) and they fucked me. Jomashop has fucked me twice out of two tries. AliExpress has fucked me zero times out of like 8 orders so far. I know those are not the typical odds, but it's my experience.

>>18621691
And I watched another video on this and ended up buying it. The guy specifically said the slender minute does not interfere with the cool hour jump.
Everyone says it's a great value. We shall soon see.
>>
>>18621751
> I bought a Seiko and it arrived busted.

Seiko has brand ethos. Why didn't you return it? They're affordable watches with mass produced movements but its a beloved brand. Seiko has an identity.

Concerning ali-express shitter. These are the bottom of the barrel. You really ought to look elsewhere. But sure. do it if you must. You may find a watch that looks they the way you want am alinexpress. I just don't care to wear a fugtow or seecoom branded watches.
>>
>>18621759
I did return it. I've since decided paying extra for your ethereal "ethos" and "identity" is a bonehead move when those vague ideas come at the cost of decent materials. You don't even dispute that because you know it's the case. All the watch experts you guys look to to justify your love of overpriced "luxury" watches have acknowledged China's rise in dependable, spec superior, and now even original design watches.
You're ONLY paying for the names at this point. And that's fine. Do it if you must. You may find a watch that carries the prestige the way you want from a Jomashop. I just don't care to wear Seiko or Citizen branded watches.

And this $63 Cadisen is a very similar design to the Seiko 5 I had to return. It's the same size and color, has a comparable movement, better crystal, better bracelet. $80 cheaper for a better watch. But it's not called "Seiko", is it? That's the only downside there.
I guess you guys live in fear of someone seeing your watch and then asking more about it and having to tell them some embarrassing name and then they point and laugh and never respect you again.
Only on the internet would such a thing happen. Anyone who really knows watches upon inspecting it would conclude that it's got better specs than the Seiko and looks about the same.
I used to be just like you, but I was in 5th grade and it was Nike Air shoes that were all-important. If your parents took you to the 'Shoe Source" and got you generic shoes, lol, god help you at school. Cruel bastards. I had to beg and cry for the entry level Nike Airs, not even a visible air bubble. But I squeaked in under the wire. They couldn't make fun of my shoes.

A LOT of people here. They had me convinced I needed a "brand watch starter" like Seiko or Citizen at the very minimum. You can't break into watch collecting for anywhere under $250.
This is a Seiko 5 right out of the box from Jomashop. See a problem? Me too. Back it went. Fuck Seiko.

>but you just didn't spend enough. A 'good' Seiko wouldn't be busted.

I'm not going to find out. They had their chance.

Jomashop sells grey market overstock you slob retard, they probably saw your name on the order and sent you a defect for wasting their time on returns

One thing is the brand and the other is the fact that you'll actually see seikos in physical stores, and they'll be more common in online watch stores as well. From my experience when you see aliexpress type items in western retail and often even online stores, it's usually the bottom of the barrel dogshit that someone is trying to flip with a 10x price increase. A seiko looks fabulous next to those.
>>
>>18622916
If they opened brick and mortar it would increase the cost. I'd rather they didn't and only people who know know

I'm not talking about having dedicated locations for aliexpress watch brands lol, just regular stores stocking them.

Out of curiosity, I counted the number of links that the JDM colorways have on Sakura Watches' product pages. They seemingly have the exact same number of both removable and fixed links as the one I got, so I would've been forced to get an aftermarket strap either way.

I told you I'd track it down. This is pretty damn close. I have a quartz Berny I like and a titanium on the way. You can look up Berny, they're a mid-tier halfway respectable Chinese shitter ranging from $35 to hundreds depending on the options. You can't go wrong for the price with something like this. If you're okay with quartz this is a banging deal on titanium if you ask me. Look up the specs. It's got a sapphire crystal and good water resistance. Hell, I wouldn't mind picking it up myself since it's the spitting image of the Seiko 5 I had to send back and decided not to replace. But I've promised myself not to buy any new watches this year.

I'd say get this and try it out if the dimensions are the same as the Seiko and if you like it pull the trigger for a couple hundred bucks. Then you'll have both, one for knocking around and roughing up and your Seiko for more chill times.
>>
>>18623993
No shit. I finally went on their site and I didn't know all those watches I'd seen around were Merkurs because they all have different logos and I can't read a lot of them. Most are under $200 and you get a lot of watch for that money, and I love their designs. A guy could make a cool collection out of just those.
>>
>>18624536
And with that coupon right there you'd get it for less than $50. And it's only $39 with a canvas strap! I'm really tempted. Fuck, I can't even browse anymore. I feel like I'm trying to kick an addiction here.

And you can get it in black for $56. Titanium and pretty much identical display with the day/date the same. And a case thickness of 8mm!!!
Dude, how can you NOT buy this watch? I'm getting "case thickness" in the pants just thinking about it.
I have to talk myself down by reminding myself I already have a titanium Berny field watch coming and I don't need more. But a guy could just collect Bernys and have a good time. God damn I love watches.

Or you can even have it for $8. Though you probably don't want anything that shitty. So far I only have 3 sub-$10 shitters and the most I can say about them is that they work. One has an annoying 'chirp-like' tick.
There's just something so fun about buying really cheap stuff and forgetting about it and then it shows up and it's like a surprise gift to yourself.

Under $100? You've come to the right place! Immediately disregard all the fucking assholes here who will tell you there are no good watches for that price. There is a world of quality to be had for under $100.
You can even get a decent mechanical with NH35 and Sapphire crystal for that if you go the Chinese route, which we can help you navigate.
Otherwise Timex and Casio make great and affordable quartzes for under $100. And $100 will take you even further in Chinese watches. Check Pagani Design, Militado, Addiesdive, Berny, etc... They all have good stuff that gets better the more you spend. You could get 2 watches for $100 to be safe. A good Timex and then take a chance on an asian shitter too maybe.

Browse around and see what you like. Watch youtube videos. They'll tell you. Everyone pretty much has the same advice I'm learning. But a lot of people will scoff if you're not here to glaze Rolex and Swiss shit worth more than your life. They don't matter. Most of them don't even own watches, let alone the upper echelon brands they never shut up about.

Something like this >>18615092 is a whole lot of watch for the price. Or this attached one is more understated.
But there are SO many to choose from. I don't know what your idea or 'flashy or retarded' might be. There's something for every taste.
Buy what appeals to you the most. I'm excited for you.

$60 titanium Chinese quartzes are not tantamount to heroin. Not to most people anyway. And even then it's a safe and affordable habit if it becomes one.

I think it's good advice to try something for $60 before investing that extra hundred. I also just think having more watches is better, and that he should ultimately get both. You wouldn't want a nice lightweight 8mm thick titanium quartz on your wrist? Sure you would. Take it hiking. Strap on the Seiko automatic after your shower before you go to dinner. Enjoy the same style all day. There's not a single thing wrong with that Berny. It's a helluva deal.

But to honestly answer your first question it depends on how much pain he was in. Actual unadulterated heroin is pretty safe when properly administered. If I really needed it for some reason I hope anon would do it for me.

I guess I should really say my budget is less than $50.
Any thoughts on Seiko? I know they're typically more expensive but I've found if you can buy them from japan they're closer to 50-100 dollars because of how undervalued the yen is (i have a way to get around high shipping costs).
I'll be honest I'm a complete watch newfag, I treat watches purely as fasion accessories like most men and use my phone to tell time lol. So my main concern is that it works and it looks clean and isn't made of shitty materials. Most normies don't know the difference between a nice watch and a shitty one anyway.
>>
>>18628097
Seiko is fine if you can get them for that low. Otherwise Chinese watches have better components than the cheap Seikos. And $50 goes a lot further with that money.
Go through the watch threads and a few of the recently archived ones if you want to see a lot of options for that price. Any time you see the word "shitter" on this board it's referring to watches in the $150 and under range, or anything that's not some "historic" brand. Ignore the many snobs here. You'll find that 9 out of 10 of the ones who actually own high end watches aren't dicks about it.
Anyone chastising you for spending so little on a watch is a poser faggot who doesn't own anything and is envious of people who actually buy watches.
You'll find something good for $50. You can get a great quartz, even with a chrono or made of titanium for that price. You can get a good automatic movement watch for that price. Shop around and read reviews and check the specs. You can learn a lot here really quick by asking. You may have to wait and ignore some trolling before you get an honest answer. But feel free to start your own thread. Post screenshots of watches you're looking at. Ask advice. You'll get it. There are people who repair watches and sell watches and plenty of us who buy them. But everyone usually knows something.
>>
>>18628113
>You can get a good automatic movement watch for that price
Are there any other than shanghai?
>>
>>18628171
Go browse them.
>>
>>18628113
Again I don't know what any of this means or why it matters. Like I know how a quartz watch works mechanically, I know what a dive watch is compared to a regular watch, your typical normie stuff. From what I'm seeing automatic movement allows the watch to wind itself when you move? Are battery operated quartz watches frowned upon or something? And is chrono just a stopwatch function? Is there like a sticky or something with all the beginner information already on it?
Like I said earlier I don't really care about the watch itself and its features, it's mostly a style accessory, so I care about how it looks, not about how it performs. As long as it tells the time within a few minutes I don't care. Anyone who claims they actually NEED all these little features in 2026 is lying to themselves. Be honest, when you need to set a timer, are you putting on your expensive $500 name brand watch and carefully fucking with the little dial on the side, or are you pulling out your phone and pressing 2 buttons?
