I turned 30 about 2 months ago and I really don't know how I should dress. For a long time now I've been dressing really basic like pic related and it feels like it makes me look like a dad in his 40s or some shit, but I also figure trying to dress any younger might look retarded too.

What's a good medium ground? What pieces and colors should I get? I have no idea how people in their mid to late 20s dress but that would be the ideal look I guess
>>
>>18618191
i see at least one white dude who looks like this every 15 minutes of my life. complete with some shit ass baseball cap and some shit ass patch beard. likely underweight as well.

why do people go out of their way to look this way? it's the most underwhelming safe look you could go with. it's not that any one of those things is bad, but the combo is so common and boring.
>>
>>18618191
>sneakers over 30

Look man the only time you should be wearing those is in shorts or sweats, otherwise get some boots or nice leather shoes. (not athletic wear)
>>
>>18618204
I know. I want to change but idk where to start, I really need some advice.

>>18618209
Any reccs? I do have some really good leather boots but I don't want to fuck them up in winter. The only other shoes I have are some beat to shit Nike AF1s.
>>
>>18618191
>>18618211
Leather boots are what you're supposed to wear in winter. If you need some basic ones that go with a lot of outfits i would recommend the Red Wing Iron Rangers.
>>
>>18618216
Alright, I'll start wearing them. Any clothing reccs then? And other shoes for summer? I genuinely want to improve and not be just a copy-paste of other people like I am currently. I don't live in a snowy part of the country so my current fit from the OP generally works pretty year round, so it's basically what I wear all year.

Add your own flavor to it, Band tee, Jewelry besides a watch like a ring or necklace. Jacket is fine if a bit basic i like to wear a members only racer instead personally, too many people have bomber jackets. Nice cotton tees go a long way, linen pants if its really hot where you live. Don't be afraid of some Khakis either, I like that with a black tshirt and classic chucks.

literally just swap up the shoes and the jacket to a different type. t shirts are good basics but opt for some button ups/downs and throw a few sweaters together. pants can be whatever, just have some colors to play with. putting an outfit together is easy as fuck. just don't look like every other hipster white 20 something playing it safe, that shit is so boring.

If you want to move beyond generic npc-wear you need to pick a style with some kind of heritage, learn about it and stick to it. Can be Ivy/Prep, workwear/Americana, English, Italian or others, depending on who you are and where you live. The problem with your picture is that it's all just a bunch of things that seem to 'go with everything'. That makes it all look bland and also kind of immature, like a guy who is still growing up and trying to figure things out because he doesn't have a set identity
>>
>>18618505

Ebay and thrift stores for clothes and going expensive on shoes (sometimes, you can find good shoes on ebay and thrift stoes) and coats. Duh, derp it's really not that hard.
>>
>>18618191
Try to avoid thinking "does this look good on an X year old?" Instead, ask yourself, "does this look good?"
>>
>>18618785
Ask not "does it look good?". Ask "does it look good on me?". Just because an outfit looks good on a model or your friend, doesn't mean it will look good on you. It all depends on your body type, height, weight, face, skin color, complexion, hair, etc. Figure out what looks good on YOU. The colors, cuts, types of outfits that enhance your good parts and hide/compensate for the bad ones until you get what's ideal for (YOU).

>>18618505
This is the best advice in the thread, but I'd add that you don't need to stick to a predetermined style religiously. Ultimately you should be finding your personal style, and you'll find that a whole subculture of people liked similar things. The part about who you are and where you live is very important. You don't want to be the Chinese cowboy living in Beijing.

It doesn't cost much to look presentable. If you're poor then buy a few good quality clothes and rotate through them. They'll last longer and look much better than 50 cheap slop. The problem isn't money. It's ignorance of fashion and aesthetics. Most people are too mentally deficient and unconscious to understand art and aesthetics.

Cars, photography and music. I'm a pretty avid photographer and I've worked as one professionally in the past too.

Not sure. Do you mean professionally or in the personal way? I suppose having a family sometime soon as I have gf in her mid 20s, and working in something office based would be ideal since I hate driving around constantly. I worked in insurance briefly so that was wearing dress pants and a nice polo most of the time.

>cars, photography, and music
Damn, that’s broad. We’d have to get more specific, but there’s plenty of style icons in those areas, could be a good place to start. I’ve always imagined a man’s personal style should a function of his life and interests (as opposed to just an aesthetic chosen from an inspo Reddit post). You could get a collection of racing jackets. Or if you like mostly 70s music check out some fits from the era. Stuff like that
>where do you imagine yourself
Sometimes I like to imagine myself in an ideal situation. Waking up at my house near the woods, cup of coffee in hand, walking into the shop to do some woodworking. I find that kind of specific situational daydreaming helps me focus on things I want to achieve. Do you picture yourself in a suit sitting down at a nice restaurant? Spending your day on a boat in a waspy fit? If you start with a specific mental image it can give you some options for what you can include now, what you can change, what you can work towards.

I was pretty into 80s music for a while and watched shows like Miami Vice and I live in a small beach city, so I was in pastels during summer for quite a few years.

>Do you picture yourself in a suit sitting down at a nice restaurant? Spending your day on a boat in a waspy fit?
I guess I mostly picture myself walking around a bigger city that's nearby and going to cafes for breakfast, then walking around taking pictures. Or just driving along the beach in the evening and getting some street food like burritos or souvlaki to eat by the beach. I already do both those things to be fair, but I struggle to imagine where I could evolve my clothing from there. I can't be in pastels all year around and I don't want to just wear all black when it's any season but summer.
>>
>>18619643
>so I’m spending my day trekking around the city, might stop in to eat or explore a store so don’t want to look sloppy, but also the main goal is finding things to photograph so might have to walk through a storm drain or through a ditch or something
I’d look around for a cool camera bag and spin a look off that. Or some practical, almost techwear, level clothes that also have an aesthetic I like. You could look into those Japanese workwear fits, I like some of those (minus the meme parachute pants, that crosses over into costume territory to me). I’m just spitballing here. Maybe find a nice pair of boots you like that can be dressed up or down. Iron rangers are a Reddit meme but there’s loads of comfortable, quality brands out there.
>>
>>18619659
Currently I have some RM Williams boots and a few pieces from UniqLo (loose fit pants and that kinda thing), so maybe I'll see about leaning into loose fits. At the same time though I feel like only Asians can pull off that baggy kinda look and it might look out of place on a white guy.

My current camera bags is a small forest green for the basic one and my work camera bag is a tan and brown backpack. I tend to use the smaller forest green one for casual use since it's big enough for just the camera, one lens and some small shit like my wallet.
>>
>>18619666
>only Asians can pull that off
lol
>I have some decent boots, camera bag, etc
Well there you go then. To me, fashion isn’t necessarily putting together full costumes like an art student. It’s adding striking or quality stuff to a “regular guy” wardrobe… because that’s what I am. Instead of wearing hoodies maybe I’ll get a decent quality fisherman’s sweater since I like the look and it gives an outdoorsy vibe that fits my lifestyle. Instead of just wearing a regular jansport backpack to carry stuff to work I’ll get a nice Filson bag since I’m older now and can afford it, stuff like that (although I haven’t settled on a Filson, I’ve been looking around).
>>
>>18619677
>It’s adding striking or quality stuff to a “regular guy” wardrobe
Fair look at it I guess, I'll keep it in mind and maybe just add a few changes to see what kinda works. I still feel like forest green might need some planning since green doesn't go with everything.
>>
>>18618231

I think dressing well is highly dependent on your job and where you are. Context matters. If you’re a lawyer and live in New York, you shouldn’t dress the same way a carpenter in Pittsburgh dresses. That said, both would do well to incorporate some simple button down shirts, namely oxford cloth, classic jeans and chinos, and decent looking boots like service boots and loafers. It’s a pretty classic mature look that will see you stand out a little because all of the other white collar workers are LARPing as blue collar or athletes while all the blue collar workers are dressing like slobs.
>>
>>18624623
If you're a carpenter, then you don't go around dressed like a fucking carpenter everywhere you go. People in the modern retarded world seem to have forgotten the concept of casual and formal wear. Those kind of clothes are common to everyone. It's your work clothes that are dependent on your occupation. But when you're not on the clock, you should be wearing normal casual clothes, or formal clothes to important events.
>>
>>18624659
They do though. See, you think I’m talking about some work uniform when what I’m actually talking about are casual tells. Carpenters walk around in Carharrt hoodies and RealTree. That’s how blue collar tradies give themselves away because that’s their idea of normal casual clothes. They dress like slobs. You’re an autistic retard btw. Try reading my post again. I gave a very specific take and clear advice you seem to have not been able to parse.
>>
Sneakers after 30 are fine but not THOSE sneakers.

Also please, please buy a real watch, if you're in a first world country you should not be wearing a seiko 5 after 30. Either commiemode with a mamdani casio or get a watch for adults. Doesn't have to be an FP Journe but at least make it look like something that says you were able to scrap together a few thousand. Or just don't wear a watch. Or get a fitness watch. Or a G shock. Just not something that says "I wanted something nicer but I'm too timid/frugal to do so".

You didn't get the "FP Journe" reference either so let me just spell it out: you don't need to spend $100k. But you also don't need to wear an embarrassment like a Seiko 5. Poor? Cool, so are most people! Own it and wear a Casio.

>>18618191
Avoid logos, graphics, shiny crap (studs, sequins, metallic thread), intentional tearing on clothes.
Learn basic color coordination and pattern matching.
Learn how clothes should fit you (what is too tight and too loose).
Avoid sportswear unless you are actually partaking in a sport activity or are doing manual labor/hiking. This includes hoodies and plastic windbreakers.
Whatever pants you wear, make sure they are not JNCO-level loose or skintight, even some dark, straight-cut jeans look more mature and refined.
Since you took care to exemplify what you currently wear, substitute the sneakers for leather shoes, even if they are brown or as casual as low-top doc martens - but without the platform soles.
Get some jeans and khakis without the metal studs, buttons and shiny crap.
Buy an actual leather jacket that would last a decade with good maintenance instead of the leatherette/polyester whatever-that-abomination-is.
Wear an actual shirt with the sleeves rolled up instead of a tennis shirt in hot weather.
This is what I can think of right now.

>>18618191
You should 100% wear a button up shirt every single day. Max casual you can do is an unbuttoned button up if your boss tells you it's okay to dress casual. If you get that tall it's a good thing because it means he's noticing you putting in more effort than other people btw.

Lots of companies still have no shirts below the waist and button up required in their dress code even though it's not enforced anymore. Check if your company does. We're at the age where nothing matters but making as much money as possible so get every advantage you can.

It depends, it was somewhat luxury back in the day, not anymore. If you can find vintage pieces, from before they outsourced everything, they're usually surprisingly good quality. Same can be said for most "fancy" department store brands. But I agree that today they produce mostly threadslop with a few high quality pieces per lineup.

You're right. Brands can have varying quality in their pieces, and pieces from one line can be significantly better in quality than pieces in another.

Indigo jeans or olive pants. It will look better and less stiff once you break it in, it's never going to look weirder than when it is brand new. That's why jacket companies sell pre-patina'd leather jackets.

>>18618219
Mate if you want to not be so cookie cutter you gotta find some inspiration from within. Take time to curate something that fits your personality. To go with that, find pieces that you might have to shell out some extra money, but will last you 10+ years given no weight fluctuation. A nice coat or the perfect pair of jeans that fit you. You could also wear colors that accentuate your skin tone, or match your eyes. I.e I wear a ton of navy because of my blue eyes and I’ve been told it really works well.

that must suck to have narcissistic personality disorder while being a failed fat and balding middle aged transsexual. you lash out on 4chan because you have an inflated sense of self importance but you get treated like an untouchable freak irl and nobody respects you. you crave power/control over people but you never get it. this is the only place you feel like you have control over anything, since you completely lack it in your life.
unfortunately your mental illness is uncurable and untreatable with drugs or therapy. good thing you're very likely to commit suicide in the next 10 years. you're a parasite and a blight on humanity.

learn the biomechanics of a punch and high school level physics brainlet. punching force comes from the leg, hips, waist, core, chest and shoulders. you can have skinny twig arms like me and throw heaters. a lot of the best knockout artists of all time look like my build or like a fat guy with twig arms.
having muscle on your arms does not make you throw much harder straights or jabs just hooks and uppercuts, and it makes you slower. its normal for fighters to not train arms at all and only what's incidental from training chest/back. at most you'll see strikers doing bench and complex lifts, never stuff like bicep curls. grapplers are another story, being muscular helps more with that.
there's a lot of reasons to want to be faster instead of stronger. speed also makes your punch hit harder, physics. if you like to throw 1-2 a lot, if you like to feint a lot and be unpredictable, or you like to counter-strike and take openings then having muscular arms can hurt more than help. if you like to fight inside and throw a lot of hooks and shit then you might want to train a bit of arms.
this is super common knowledge if u actually fight.

i'm 34 and still dress the way I did through my late 20s pretty much. I still get girls pretty regularly if that's the goal for you. Shit is different now, at least where I live. 30s no longer means settling down with a stable job and buying a house, everybody's still just dressing and acting the same way they did in their late 20s because it's become nearly impossible to move up without generational wealth. Also potentially gonna alienate yourself from the mid-late 20s dating pool if you just start dressing like a 50 year old. You'll know when you start "how do you do fellow kids"ing, and you've got like 6-7 years before that happens. Unless you're bald already, then it's over
>>
>>18633423
This. You either try to pass as 20s and hope you can still weasel your way into younger circles to get laid, or you go full “I give up” dressing in menswear like you’re ready to settle down with a fatty or a single mom.

Just go streetwear until you start balding.

imagine a zoomer wearing this kek
>>
>>18633573
I mean the picture you reference is jeans and a short sleeve shirt. You mean a tee shirt
>>
>>18633580
You want mocs, not loafers. Loafers look too gay imo

Streetwear doesn’t mean strictly minimalist athleisure or old crusty sneakers. It just means something casual yet modern. It also veers away from trying to look like a “classy” book nerd or a pretentious prick. Menswear has a time and place, and usually dressing “nice” is for occasions like birthday dinners, an office job, interviews, Christmas Eve, or church.

Good if you're hanging out at the yacht club for the day, but wearing this as someone in their 20s or 30s as general wear would look really bad.

>Ayerton Senna
That’s dadcore. That’s what already married dads in the 90s wore. Men who stopped persuing dreams, women, and were already settling down with a wife gaining weight after a second kid. That’s the definition of unc, uncool, unattractive, square, out of touch, and may as well have Hal and Oates as the theme song.

They're not boat shoes anon.

Are you telling me that this fit is too formal for going around town or whatever the fuck?
>>
>>18633592
Niggergod forbid someone tries to look classy and educated in his everyday life. No, we all should look like unwashed and drugged up hobos.
>>
>>18633399
The style is service boot. I’m not sure the brand. I wear Grant Stone and Viberg personally.
>>
>>18633578
I don't think it does. You just pointed out two adjacent posts who have different ideas. There are other ideas and even combinations of them. You're focusing too much on finding "the right way," or even any way at all. Find a way that YOU like or develop one yourself.
>>
>>18633641
No, just that loafers look really gay. That's why I would rather wear bluchers which are chunkier and have laces.
>>
>>18633526
I mean, they're fine, but I prefer Asics. I like the reproduction of the 'minimal leather sneaker' that I can wear with semi-tailored clothing because it's much nicer than actual gats, adidas gats, and way cheaper than MMM gats. Also, there's lots of fun colours that go with basically every wardrobe, unlike the goofy MMM ones.
>>18633594
That doesn't make much sense since Senna was chasing dreams and glory his entire life.

Zoomer fashion is such a deeply schizophrenic and insecure culture; because everything has truly been done at this point, anything you choose to wear can and will be lambasted from multiple sides as cringe, dated, performative, old man/“unc” etc. the moment it’s perceived. Multiple levels of ironic displacement must be considered in order to wear anything at all, as well as an ever-shifting dance of nanotrends that demand fluid relation to the self, to their generation, to the millennial boogeyman… it’s no wonder they behave the way they do.
>>
Zoomies are old AF uncs now. You're not even eligible to be interns here at work because you're to old. Y'all are fucked. Too cool to wear normal corporate attire yet had no problem wearing a starbucks apron because it was so chill and laid back and you could smoke weed with high schoolers and never grow up.

Guess what now you're old af, don't have job experience, and are dealing with boomers/x who still require you to dress like an adult to work for them if you're lucky enough to be one who had any sort of work experience whatsoever.

Gen Alpha is 2011 as the starting year, so they're teenagers now and zoomies are old fucks that were already insecure about aging. Absolutely brutal that they're going to get called old and unc now.
>>
>>
Nobody says you need to dress like a school teacher once you hit 30.
>>
I don't care, I wear whatever looks good on me
Thought I don't follow zoomer trends, if something is trendy looks good on me, I'll wear that too.
But I generally mix and match stuff from multiple decades. I've always had a composite style that doesn't look from any particular age, but doesn't look dated either

Unless you wear those for working out, it does say that you are a failure.
They also scream CHAV.

I dress like this.
It's decent enough for an adult while also having modern proportions (larger pants, slightly cropped top).

Realistically, I dress the way I did as a teenager. Gen z is just so broken that a dude wearing a button down with a non graphic T-shirt underneath is "dressed up." Realistically this fit got me called a lazy slob by my dad/grandad just a decade and a half ago. The window has shifted so much athletic attire is going to be dressed up to whatever comes after alpha wearing speedos or whatever the fuck they come up with.

Yes you should, if you don't want to look like an unc trying hard to dress like a teenager. You're not a high school kid anymore. Dress like a grown man, in a way that inspires confidence and trust in other people. The last thing any teenager wants is to see is an unc dressed like him. That's really cringe.

Younger zoomer style: homeless camgirl

This seems like the ideal fit to hula hoop

You should invest in high waisted pants.

Mr. Roger’s attire is if you’re 45 and older, not 30.
