Clone fragrances aren't exactly known for replicating the nuances, just the general impression. That's the case here. I'd say 50% at best.

I got a bottle of Dior Leather Oud. It starts on very strong, one spray is enough to get good performance. I get some synthetic/chemical notes at first, with lots of smoke and leather. From the start you notice the pissy fecal stink and it doesn't go away. The heart of the fragrance is the pissy leather woody mix but you really can pick up other notes like the sweet beeswax, I also noticed some cedar halfway through. It's very balsamic too and there is a very old, almost elegant note, I can't identify. It really is like having an old man with a soiled diapers on your arm. I did warn people around me that I was testing a stinky perfume. I could not wear it around people, nobody else likes it. I thought it would start stinky and then settle down but it doesn't relent, the projection goes down just a tiny bit. I like it because it's interesting but it's not the greatest thing ever and something I can only wear for myself. It's gigantic so based of how it performs I have enough to last a couple centuries.

When you finish all those samples, which will be really fast, you're out $100. If you spend it on a bottle you will still have something of value and you can recoup your loses. When available just go to the store and test, otherwise just spend the money on an actual perfume, it will be a much better value. Imagine you do it 10 times, you're out $1000 with samples or have a collection of 10 bottles. Paying for samples has diminishing returns. It makes sense once but each time afterwards it gets worse and worse.

1. There are multiple houses, so likely has to visit multiple locations to sample those frags which is time consuming and quite frankly annoying.
2. You are able to take your time with the scent, sample it on skin, spray in different temperatures and see how it works/changes. I would much rather not have a salesperson standing there while I sniff things.
3. If you don't like it at the time, you can come back to it later and see if you're tastes have changed.
4. $100 isn't a lot of money, it is better to curate than consume.
5. Blind buying is risky and nothing annoys me more than buying a frag and having to sell it because it wasn't what I expected.

I bought some travel atomizers from Santa Maria Novella. I have some splash bottles that I wanted to spray even if that means I will stop being a splashgod. They were $15 each, you could probably get similar quality for cheaper but I thought an actual brand would be more reliable. It shipped super fast. I liked that it was a bigger 15ml and the opening was wider for easy pouring. The paper box smells a little bit but not perfumy. It's hard to open the box without breaking the top flap. The sprayer has a metal bearing inside that rattles, I don't know if that is a sign of quality or not. It sprays very short and wide, very explosive. Not great for half sprays and it's not very fine. It's probably best for colognes which makes sense coming from the brand. I'll be using color stickers to match the bottle and the sprayer. I wish they had other colors and other sprayers options.

Today I started the afternoon with the aftershave version of Ungaro PH1, at night I moved on to the EDT. The aftershave has a big stinky top note and it settles muskier. The design is not the challenge, there isn't a lot of space to innovate and the manufacturer can do whatever you want to spec. The big ask is to convince people to pay more for a more "premium" product that is 95% identical to what they get for pennies. The key is to find people who don't want their fancy/expensive perfumes in cheap atomizers. You need very targeted marketing. I have some ideas but I need to get in touch with the manufacturer and find out their minimum order size.

I thought I'm done with frags for a while, then I end up in the morning again, looking at reviews and managing favorites in store sites. Basically gooning and edging but for purchasing fragrance. Tried 3-4 samples yesterday, some are re-tries, helps solidify a choice. Going to cop an Armani Code edp soon, it's on discount.
I really should channel this autistic fixation's energy into something productive.

That's a fairly traditional association in ME. They did it for centuries.
And for the western market, rose + oud is safer than pure oud.

Coincidentally, I just ordered a Promise decant (rose + cypriol).
