Who else wants to get their wardrobe down to a wardrobe and a chest of drawers worth of clothes, with shirts and pants up top, shoes below, and knits in the bottom drawer. Chest of drawers with underwear, socks, loungewear, sportswear, tee shirts, and accessories. have any of you done it and just pared down to your styles essential durable, high quality but fewer clothes?
>>18620886I was thinking one navy suit, one grey suit, one pair of boots, one pair of wingtips, one pair of loafers or mocs, two pair of sneakers, one pair sandals one coat, one jacket, one pair of jeans, two pair of chinos in flat and pleated, one pair of hiking pants, one pair of wool pants, 2 oxfords, 2 flannels, 2 chamois, 2 denim/chambray shirts, 2 poplin, 2 twil, 2 linen shirts. 1 wool pullover, 1 wool cardigan, cotton quarter zip, cotton pullover, then various other tees and henelys in the drawers as well as athletic wear and normal underwear and accessories in the drawers. You would then have to get rid of things if you get new ones.
>>18620886this is called a capsule wardrobe>>18620891is your plan to do laundry every day or are you stinkmaxxing
>>18620906That's what underwear and tee shirts are for. I wash my pants and shirts maybe 3x a year and just wash underwear, sweatpants, tee shirts, socks.
>>18620886I would if people still made good clothes, but they don't. So I try to grab any good quality clothes before they're out of production. Manufacturers these days use artificial scarcity to create demand and fast fashion. They rarely release anything actually worth buying in a sea of low quality overpriced plastic filled slop.
>who else wants to be a boring turd who wears the same shit all the timeSorry, chump. Not me.
>>18620886Yes I do. Started doing this when I moved out. Every year I check if there's anything I outgrew and sell it and learn a lesson to not make the same error again. You have to understand that you do not need to own multiple items that fill the same niche in an outfit. It's important to not damage your clothes with excessive washing and laundry chemicals. If your clothers are "dirty" because of sweat or odours then you don't need to use surfactants, those are only for actual stains. And learn how to maintain them with oxygen bleach, dyes or lanolin, depending on the item. Never dry clean.
>>18621145Detergents aren't the only problem. If you can, always line dry your clothes in shade. Use the spin cycle of your dryer only to drain out the excess water. Using heat to dry your clothes every time you wash them destroys them.
>>18621148True, forgot to say I never use the dryer. Drying indoors isn't good though because they develop a mouldy smell. Also I use vinegar to soften clothes because they accumulate minerals from water over time. It makes the fabric solft like new.
>>18621150I just hang them in front of a fan
>>18621158Also cook with an apron
>>18620886No I have like 50k worth of clothes I’m not throwing this shit away
>>18621176With or without depreciation?
>>18621017I like wearing the same shit all the time.
>>18620886I had one like this Clothes wore out fast looked like you wore the same thing everyday because you only had like 4 shirts and 4 pants it didn’t take long to look like everything was the same.
>>18621332But that's based and then you can patch holes
IMO you need the following:Work6 summer office shirts (for me, polos and oxfords)6 winter office shirts (long-sleeve polos and oxfords)6 office pants (chinos)6 office sweaters or jackets (V-neck, crew neck, turtleneck, and cardigan sweaters)Casual8 summer casual shirts (tees, chambray or linen shirts, and SSBD)8 winter casual shirts (long-sleeve henleys, flannel or tweed shirts).8 casual pants (jeans and chino shorts)8 sweaters or jackets (leather, suede, and/or denim jackets, quarter zip sweaters)2 coats (peacoat and overcoat)Formalwear2 suits2 blazers/sport coats2 off trousers6 dress shirts (mine are French cuffed)6 ties6 pocket squaresAthletic and Housework8 athletic tees8 athletic long-sleeve tees8 hoodies, sweatjackets, or work jackets8 athletic shorts8 work jeans or sweatpants1 parkaShoes2 dress shoes (brown and black)2 boots (brown and black, Chelsea, chukka, or military)2 loafers (brown and black)1 leather sneaker (white)1 athletic sneaker1 steel toed work boot3-4 belts that match the shoesOther2 watches (steel dive watch and gold dress watch)2 sunglasses (aviators, wayfarers, or clubmasters, one steel-rimmed and one gold-rimmed)2 pairs cufflinks (one silver, one gold).1 swimsuit1 pair sandals1 leather bag (I have a black and brown messenger bag)3 bottles of cologneThis provides enough to hit every occasion without constantly doing laundry. Clothing items can intermix between categories to add variety and prevent samey looks (dress shirt at the office or an OCBD worn casually). And you can always add more accessories or fragrances.
>>18620886No, I like and wear all the clothes I have now. I have a full wardrobe for work clothes and then one for everything else.
>>18621866That's not going to fit in a wardrobe and one chest of drawers.
>>18621909I think you could. My closet isn't much larger than a wardrobe and it holds all my office, formal, and casualwear. My bedroom dresser has all my socks, underwear and athleticwear. Shoes are stored separately tbf.
>>18621003>I wash my pants and shirts maybe 3x a yearTHIS NIGGA STINKS
>>18621866You will end up wearing 40% of that, This is a fantasy.
>>18620886i don't, having lots of clothes to wear makes all my stuff go on longer.
>>18621866>you need 34 shirts
>>18621971That's what undershirts and underwear are for as well as exercise clothing. I try not to wear anything more than 6 hours at a time because I hate it
>>18621973Just get rid of one and get another when it wears out.
>>186219584 jackets, 2 coats, 16 pants, and 34 shirts aren't going to fit in a wardrobe. Your knitwear also has to go in the drawers and they take up a large volume if they are chunky. There's no way you would fit 24 sweaters/sweatshirts plus your sweatpants and other undergarments and tees even with rolling
>>18621866imo too many sweaters/jackets/pants and not enough shoes but this is more realistic than opsince this is 4chan obviously less formalwear if you use it rarely
>>18622000I mean the amount of formalwear is crazy. Nobody has enough events to go to necessitate it. And for weddings unless you are in the family/wedding party you don't need a suit. Besides that if you are you usually have to rent according to whatever colors the bride comes up with. Finance bros wear patagonia vests and techbros wear hoodies.
>>18621972Per season, sure. But I flip around my hangers every year to make sure I'm using every article of clothing and by year's end all of it is flipped back.>>18622013I attend weeklong conferences twice a year, plus monthly meetings of my professional society, filling in for ushers at church, the occasional wedding or funeral. It adds up.
