How come unstructured sometimes look nice but sometimes gets retarded? Is it a last or sizing issue? Has to be in a really stumpy last so your toes have very little extra space at the front or something. A lot of times it looks good on Red Wings though. Is their 8 last somewhat short from the ball to the toes?

Let's post shoes. What are you wearing right now?
>>18628597The type of leather is what’s important, along with the last’s toe profile. That boot in the pic is the John Lofgren remake of the Japanese WW2 boots, right? If so, the pigskin is too thin and will inevitably deform like that. Only thicker cowhide or horse leather bends and forms to the toes well without collapsing.

Can you help me identify the construction of these boots and decide whether I should get them?Seller says these are wood pegged service boots from 40s Czechoslovakia. Tell me if I fucked the sizing on a pair of boots or if it's just the leather that needs breaking in. This pair I got is made with Conceria 800's "vachetta" leather and it is noticeably stiffer than anything I've had before. In the morning the boots feel fine, no issues at all and no pressure points, but as the day goes on I can feel them wear on my instep and outer ball of my foot. Maybe I've just been lucky because outside of the insole molding to my foot I've never really had the same break-in pain other people talk about online with my boots, so I can't really tell if it's that or just too small.
>>18631274Astorflex Akiflex Desert Boot
>>18631729if it feels fine putting them on right out of the box you probably didn't fuck up the sizing, even the best fitting boot will feel bad during break in if the leather is stiffthe thing with veg tan leather is that it shrinks, when exposed to moisture, so they feel tighter after you sweat in them throughout the dayeventually the leather will mold to your foot and darken in the process, you shouldn't have issues after that

>>18632207With thick leather boots there's always an expectation of some discomfort compared to plastic shoes filled with foam. It's not so much that boots are uncomfortable, it's just that the average person is used to having their feet essentially wrapped in clouds. So the "discomfort" is really just standing on a leather insole wrapped in thick leather. Leather shoes are very comfortable when broken in and they've molded to you and softened up, but they will never feel the same as foam insoles and foam uppers That being said, Indy boots are extremely comfortable and I consider mine to be my most comfortable boots. The last is amazing how it's narrow in the heel but wide in the toe box. You never feel unstable like it's gonna slip off but your toes never feel cramped. And the Thomas heel is really a difference maker, even though you'd assume it would be subtle. I don't get fatigue at all wearing them Are the overpriced? Yes, absolutely. My sister doesn't have any boots and had a pretty difficult time this winter since it was very cold and had lots of snow, I was thinking of buying these Redwing Silversmiths for her, would you guys think it's a good idea to buy these for a woman? I know they are great quality but idk if women even like these type of boots
>>18633266Women are known to get cold feet. She will probably be happier with insulated boots. Also buying shoes as a present is a terrible idea, they may not fit. Women are also known not to wear shoes that they think look ugly, look not in style, don't fit the outfit or assorted silly reasons. So take her shopping instead, nudge her towards winter boots, and pay for what she picks.
>>18633269I know her shoe size and she has worn our mother's boots which were too big so I know her size in boots too, and what I do in the winter is just wear thick socks with boots or wear 2 socks over each other, it works
>>18633266i believe red wings are the only ones who build their woman's line to the same quality as their men's line so if you really want her in quality boots red wing is your only choice
>>18633271Wearing socks is a good idea but it makes the sizing and fit even iffier.Just make sure you can send them back again.
>>18633266terrible idea, get her some nice under socks and warm wool socks instead
>>18633266Wouldn't do it unless you know she'd wear that style.
>>18633257i wouldnt be so proud of having proven his point anon
imagine consulting a witch made 'branock device' when they have things like guessing available. Some of you guys are so lost. "Hey ma'am may I measure my foot (?) with a brannock device?" imagine saying this out loud, you sound like a schizo. They call mall security on you if you say this. lol. "I'm a EE width" more schizo babble. "Hi Ma'am I would like CXL leather please" you sound deranged and frankly lost. No, leave these delusions behind, if you need to know your shoe size you contact the numinous aura that is your subconscious and you guess. Your ancestors, who killed sabre tooth tigers, would find your behaviour strange.
>>18633292This was probably a lot funnier in your head because it wasn't funny at all

They live in India, so there's a timezone issue and they take a long time to respond. It might take days. >>18633440Honestly not too bad. Should have gone with Luosjiet if you wanted to cheap out on boots by going to the east though.
>>18633464Why on earth would you do this, can you return them? What the fuck dude you could have had red wings or origin or jim greens or wolverines for that price
>>18628968I'm going to help you out, because I thought people were just being contrarians as well since all the review videos I found glazed Thursday They're SHIT. What you get is a mall-tier boot with a good year welt. I had my captains (rugged and resilient) for less than a year, before:>I had to reglue the sole>The inner liner had completely dissolved at the heel (revealing that the boot is essentially two layers of low quality leather glued together >Laces started fraying everywhere I've had 50$ boots I bought at discount stores last longer. It's leather in name only. I bought iron rangers a few months ago as a replacement. It's night and day how different the build quality is. And that's for what the autists here consider a mid tier boot
>>18633570>red wings or origin or jim greens or wolverinesI already have red wings, white's, truman, grant stone, meermin, and carmina. The only reason I tried blkbrd is they claim to allow customizations (e.g. lasts, leathers, outsoles, boot designs etc) like carmina but at lower cost. The boot in itself actually looks nice in person, the sizing and lasts are the problem.

Are you guys seriously buying more than one or two pairs of boots? Aren't these supposed to be "buy it for life" things?
>>18633666>I already have red wings, white's, truman, grant stone, meermin, and carmina. It looks like what a five year old would draw if you told them to draw a boot. The back is shapeless and the front looks like they let the air out of a clown shoe. Your only hope is to pawn these off on an even bigger retard.
>>18633775It takes a special kind of retard to go to a hobby community and ask them why they are spending more than the absolute minimum amount of money possible.
>>18633781Some of the anons here own 5+ pairs
I wish I were rich whenever I see this types of boots, it hurts me not having the means to buy them.
Is 316€ too much for a pair of boots/my first pair of boots?
>>18633785>he doesn't have 10
>>18633788Saving issue not an income issue
>>18633788I was expecting a lot more than €472 based off your post. This shit is chump change. You don't have to be "rich" to get them. You just need to not have a minimum wage McJob.
>>18633820Yeah, I'm an university student, basically working as a freelancer. Honestly I don't have the perception of normal quantity of money, in my big family shoes have always been expected to cost less than 100€

>>18633464>Honestly, my expectations were really low. Especially when they said they can ship within two weeks but it took them almost 2 months.that is such a nonstarter
>>18633912Some anon with more money than sense should bite the bullet and review them here.
>>18633666Why are you doombuying boots, you only need a moc, a plaintoe, a hiking/work MAYBE a duck if it snows a lot. Then for shoes you want a casual moc or derby, medium wingtip/monks, and dress oxfords. 6-7 total pairs of leather shoes then a pair of running shoes a pair of sandals, and a pair of slides. After that a specialty sport shoe like a basketball or tennis or climbing pair depending on your sport. More than this is generally overkill.
>>18633666>the sizing and lasts are the problem.not the inability to follow the specs you set?
Alden Indy clones from Rock Can Roll (Red Tornado) currently at about 180. Anyone dares to give them a shot?
>>18633919No, I wouldnt. I have one of their henelys in the mail to try though. If it's good I may try their jeans but for boots I would just stick with a made in usa brand.
>>18633919Looks off. Ugly
>>18633920I got a pair of jeans from them. They're pretty decent considering the price.I've been eyeing the boots for a week now, but even in the heavily doctored pics there's always something off with them. Sometimes the leather looks plasticy, other times the shilouette looks weird... guess nobody sells dollars for pennies.I almost pulled the trigger on Craft & Glory engineers a few months ago, after that anon showed his, but they're a 100 more expensive now.
>>18633919luosjiet seems to be the go to for indy clones
>>18633928does parkhurst still make the niagara boot? there's was probably the best indy inspired boot out there but i'm not seeing it on their site alden might have given them a C&D for copying them too closely so they quietly dropped the model the chink brands don't care about that stuff
>>18633929they make some sometimes but it and the delaware are raredesu you could probably email andrew and ask when there's going to be another run
>>18633920i have their jeans, the SD knockoff, I like them.
on the topic of indian shoe makers, im approaching 8 months on my MTO blake shitter oxfords from Bridlen. i got two pairs that i alternate between. they're my wagecucking shoes (in office 5 days)>they fucked up on one of the shoes (pic rel) >cracks on the heel counter of one shoe but probably due to neglect>gave them measurements i took myself>first pair was too narrow on the left shoe but is acceptable after break-in >they held off on making the second pair until i tried on the first and gave them feedback on fit>have to replace the heels on both >came with drawstring shoe bags. no odd or jeet-like smells at all>placed order in mid january, got the shoes in early may>had to drive to my local customs office to self clear the package because those faggots at DHL were trying to rape me with feesall in all: don't be poor, get a GYW'd shoe, put sole protectors on if you must have a blake, get rubber soles if you're a commuter wagecuck like me, take care of your shoes at a minimum (renovateur + brush), yada yada
>>186339648 months is too soon for leather to crack due to neglect.

>>18634525In the army your boots got wet all the time. You get caught the rain, cross a body of water, whatever. No one cares or babys their boots. And modern combat boots are mostly cemented solesHigh quality welted boots will be just fine if they get wet. But you gotta remember, the people buying these buy then for fashion so a drop of water is the end of the world and they rush to reddit to ask "are my boots ruined?"
>>18634534I know that's why I said I dont agree with it. its almost certainly going to fuck up the color but if its a black military boot that's going to get buried in kiwi nobody caresas you said modern boots are basically thick sneakers so I dont think people do this anymore

I bought boots because I wanted something that lasts that I DON'T have to do a single thing to take care of.
>>18634601Boots were a bad choice. If you wanted something that lasts forever with zero maintenance you should have just gone outside and gotten yourself a rock. They're free.
>>18634601Maintenance and modification are the most fun part of having things though. Cleaning things, Resoling, Sharpening, Fixing, I'm getting hard. I replaced the backlight in a TV of mine for $11 to ali express and now it's wall mounted in my grandmas room of the rest home with a usb stick filled with movies and tv shows.
>>18634601Boots you need to maintain last longer BECAUSE you can maintain them.
>>18634601And that's no problem. Walmart makes plenty of boots designed just for that purpose. And when they're worn out you just go get another pair
>>18634534my army boots were high maintenance though, cleaning and regreasing them everyday. and they have creases like hell. and as I had an easy life in the army in the infirmary, I had to tend to some really big blisters because of those shitty boots.

Stupid question. Bakers has a sale on for some dope cowboy boots made out of crocodile or alligator, one of them lizard gimmicks. It says you should moisturize the leather after every wear? Like...is that true?
>>18635175After every wear is overkill, but reptiles need to be conditioned monthly, regardless of whether or not you wear them. The skin is very thirsty and once it rips its fucked. Also you need a special conditioner. Whatever you use on cowhide/horsehide wont cut it.
>>18635190Oh my fucking lawd, I was going to get them as daily drivers but nope
