Kofe time. This thread offers a forum to discuss and debate wristwatches, pocket watches, and clocks. Several members here are highly knowledgeable in specified areas of horology, so please contribute to the thread by asking questions and/or asking for advice if you are planning on purchasing a watch from an AD or the grey market. Please post pics of your watches here; it doesn't matter if it's worth 5$ or 50000$, because there might be someone who wishes to eventually purchase the same model that you own and would love to hear some real-world advice regarding ownership. The experience matters the most, not the price.Everyone is welcome in this thread, because we are all Frens here.Previous Based Thread: >>>/warosu/fa/

>>18629384How does /wt/ feel about the GW-9400 Rangeman? Life has brought me to wear several watches and I feel a new sense of appreciation for the medium, definitely want a classier analogue than the Casio one I main for the dirtier work I do, I like them. Recently got into ABC watches, which brings me to my next question, are there anymore ABC's that are worth a damn besides the Rangeman, Pro-trek, and suunto core? Because I've had a lot of other people I've talked to that want a smaller watch at the very least, and I'm not entire sure what to tell them besides what I already know.
>>18629428Strange way to express your envy or whatever it is. What clown? What's clownish? Why can't you get the words out that actually describe what I've done wrong here? It's been like this from the very start. Out of people who comment, easily a third of you are strangely antagonistic about it but can't verbalize what the actual offense is. It seems to just boil down to "I personally would have bought this spendy watch I like and not tried out a lot of cheap ones."I'm not doing anything wrong. I didn't fuck up. I wanted each and every one of those watches and I don't need to save money to buy any watch. WHY can't you separate your own goals from mine? Why do you think I should want a very expensive watch? If you were really even paying attention you'd see that sadly I am buying more and more expensive ones. I've now dropped $350 on one. Your response to that is "mall trash". Seriously, what watches do you own? You probably want a Rolex Submariner, huh? And you think I should. And you think I can't afford it or I'm dumb for not buying it since I can. How old are you? Where the fuck did you get the idea I don't want any of my watches? And why do you enter a new thread and start harassing me out of nowhere? What the fuck did I do to get under your skin like this? It was fun and exciting and kind of just a lark, but you're acting like I've committed grave offenses against the watch world. Please, someone explain.>>18629433Tell me how much minimum one needs to spend for an accurate watch. Do you harass people who like Casio and Timex? Do any of you people making these rude comments even have watches at all? The "watch experts" here have been supportive. Who the fuck are you? Why does what I've done offend you so?Can none of you even identify with a point of view not your own? This thread is tainted with negative energy. >>18629384Don't post pics of your watches here. It DOES matter if they're worth $5. Not everyone is welcome.

I often have a problem with my watches slipping lower on my wrist, and flopping around, unless I wear them tight which I can't do 24/7.Is it true that a NATO strap provides some extra friction so this is less likely to happen?I've never tried NATO, only reisin and bracelet. Is it worth giving it a try?
>>18629539It's my favourite. An Autodromo Group B Night Stage. It's inspired by dashboards from 80s cars. I wanted the green one but this one looks better in a way as it;s black PVD. Jesus Christ, this catpcha is hell.
>>18629545Get one of these elasticated parachute straps. I love them and they're infinitely varaiable.
>>18629462ha so you could wear gshock on thick gloves
>>18629548Incredibly hot, 80s technology and its aesthetics scratch a part of my brain in a way hard to describe. Beautifully crafted and engineered, they didn't let the pricetag go to waste, love reading about this one. What lead you to it? How much did you get yours for? Also yeah, the new catpcha sucks shit
>>18629558my fingies were cold :03
>>18629564Got mine for £400 in mint condition. I've read complains that the movement isn't very good for the price but who cares? There were only 200 made so it's pretty rare. I still think the green one is sexier. This was mine but I paid closer to £800 which I couldn't justify keeping.
>>18629390One of these watches isn't even a watch but a knife.
>>18629530I was going to talk shit but for 2.5k these are great choices.
>>18629530How much did you pay for the Omega alone?
>>18629579400 is an absolute steal based on the prices I've seen, also from the little I've read the timing was said to be pretty good, though maybe not expected to be put through more rapid movement. I'm no horologist if you couldn't tell
>>18629549What do you love about them?Do they also go under the watch case just like nato?
>>18629589It was £1800 from a closing-down jeweler with no box or papers but with the Omega bracelet. I got it as a wedding gift from my wife instead of a ring. I usually wear it on a Citizen rubber strap as the bracelet is a bit ostentatious for me. >>18629599They're slimmer than NATO straps so they don't make the watch sit away from your wrist and the elastic makes them very comfortable. I like the look of the hook and clasp thing as well.
>>18629530I bought a 6 dollar screwdriver and discovered how easy it is to change your own batteries once every 5 years. I went a got myself quartz-pilled.
>>18629612>I got a used watch as a wedding gift.Oof.
I posted a little while ago about this Timex Marlin Jet Automatic I bought which I really enjoy, but felt too small for my wrist. Someone here recommended that I get a thicker leather strap to swap out the mesh bracelet with, because that would give it more wrist presence. I found this nice waxed leather strap, and even though I do like the mesh more aesthetically, do you think it looks better in proportion to my wrist size now? This isn't a very dressy watch, so I feel like I have less leeway for it to be on the smaller side, but I just adore the design and color of it and would like to make it work. 7.5" wrist here, it's a 38mm watch but I think the unique bezel and crystal style with the smaller dial kind of make it wear small.

>>18629619Highly based. What bracelet is that on the Seamaster? It doesn’t look OEM.
>>18629680It’s a Forstner 1450 bracelet. I still have the original bracelet, but it doesn’t taper or have any microadjustment. This one has a tool free microadjust and smaller links so it’s much more comfortable. The 9-link Bond bracelet is also pretty dated looking anyway.

Not sure how true that is, though.
>>18629801Unidirectional brushing is easier to do. A sunburst dial is rotated while being brushed and is then lacquered.Sunburst is seen more often because it’s popular. People like them. I absolutely adore my green Casio duro, but as I learn more about watches and see more higher end stuff in person, I'm starting to want something similar to this but higher quality, with more finely detailed indices, hands, dial, bezel, and so on. Looking at dive watches that have a black dial and green bezel, they're almost always a more yellowish or olive green instead of the neutral, even slightly tilting towards blue, green of this duro.Would you guys have any recommendations for an upgrade to my green duro that somewhat resembles it in the spirit but is a significant step up in quality? I was thinking to get something between $300 and $1,000. Coming with a nice, quality steel bracelet would be a big plus, or if there's an aftermarket high quality bracelet available for it like on Long Island Straps, that would be fine too.
>>18629896Steinhart Ocean One Green
>>18629896San Martin Submariner
>>18629901I posted a photo I took under yellowish light, my bad. That's close but it's a little on the yellow side of the green spectrum, like I was saying. Here's a photo and neutral lighting that shows clear, neutral green leaning towards the cooler end of the spectrum that I'm looking for.
>>18629903Probably better off getting something with a generic bezel insert size and swapping it with one thats the shade you want.
>>18629905That's fair, I didn't think about that. Thank you>>18629902Pretty close but I would prefer a black dial. Does it come in that combination?

>>18629927Man, sapphire without AR is rough to see, really cloudy. I would prefer mineral or something at this price point if they're just going to do raw sapphire.
>>18629955>ARI just took it at a bad angle. The watch pops a decent amount, especially outside.
Thinking about getting my dad a Seiko SZSB012He's a fan of Japan technology, but a Casio would be too 'meh'So might as well get a staple for him
>>18629960Don't piss on Casio. They're great. They just aren't a luxury brand. I've got my Casio F91-W beater digital watch, and my expensive-ish Seiko Chrono. Love them both.

I don't understand why people think a royal oak is justified costing 50 times as much as this one.
>>18630136I don't even think about $5,000 watches. I'm sure it's great. I'll never need a GMT though. Grand Seiko is nice but I could simply never relax with something that expensive on my wrist. And if it just sits at home on display I'd rather put my art money into paintings and sculptures. Maybe if I won the lottery I'd feel differently. But it's probably because I used to have pic related but lost it during a booze blackout.
>>18630151It's never justified. It's not too hard for richfags to afford something like that, so they casually buy it to flex on poorfags. This for some reason mindbreaks the poorfags into wanting these overpriced trinkets and seeing them as something to aspire to.In fact, there is a market for pretty much overpriced everything. Companies make random shit, but expensive, and richfags actually buy it because they get this feeling like it's better quality, or like they are superior to the rest of the population.Keep in mind that these products are sometimes better, other times not. Usually the difference is small.

So, has enough time passed that the PRX can be worn without everyone calling you a trend-chaser or bandwagoner, or is it still something everyone online will neg on you for buying?
>>18630678If you wear it now everyone thinks you fell for the meme and you're still coping. It's honestly never been a good watch.
>>18630690>It's honestly never been a good watch.By what measurement?
>>18630693>synthetic/plastic escapement (pallet fork and escape wheel)>It's laser-regulated at the factory, making fine adjustments harder for independent watchmakers. And I guess after 5-10 years the service might cost 400$ which is 60% of the watch's cost.Objectively, these are the only things that come to mind. But that's just not the problem. It's a watch that is simply not unique and we, (but most importantly yourself), know that it isn't the watch you really want. On the contrary, it's a 3 to 4 times removed Cope of a cope of a cope watch. Like getting a junghans which is a cope of Nomos, which is a cope of G Original and Moritz Grossman which are a cope of ALS--Tissot makes unique watches, it's not the branding itself but in this case, the branding + what the prx stands for. The new nomos Worldtimer for example can't be a cope watch because it's too unique. And lastly, like the other guy said, anyone who knows about watches will either think that you fell for the hype and if you didn't fall for it, then you're larping if owning the watch you actually wanted. >Disclaimer:This is just my way of thinking and why I would never buy a PRX. The best thing about swatch is the repairability and ease of access to said repairability and ease of mind. That Pro is lost with the PRX.
>>18630709>>18630693At the end of the day, if you like it, buy it.
>>18630709So if you get the quartz version, it's basically fine? No escapement or anything.
>>18630717Honestly, yes because it's less than half the price for the same good casing and bracelet. Keep in mind the dial is completely different also. But credit where credit's due, Tissot always regulates their automatic watches before shipping them out of the factory, which Seiko clearly doesn't.I never thought about it but yes, If I had the choice, I'd pick the quartz version. It's also 1mm thinner. My friend really, get the one you want. Make sure to wear it, inspect it with Macro first (gaps in the lugs and bracelet. Scratches on the hands/markers. Check the movement if it sounds right (if it's too loud for example)) etc. take.your.time at the AD or wherever. Don't feel bad for them, you're spending a decent amount of money, they got 30 mins to spend.
>>18630717>>18630719And if you think about what the design represents- It combines the Quartz movement of the 70s quartz crisis with the iconic royal oak design of the same era as well.

Sometimes I have to actually check to make sure I didn't lose my watch somewhere because I don't feel it, some of them are that comfortable whether it's a difference in the finishing on the metal components or the quality or treatment of the strap material or whatever it is. It's hard to even quantify where all the money goes and how it contributes to the watch, but it's there. I can get one from Joma for $120 and add $75 for a good aftermarket bracelet.
What's the significance of specifically highlighting the hours between 12 and 4? Does anyone know? I've seen it on a few watches and wondered. Thinking of getting this as a quick Amazon buy for $147. There are a couple different similar versions available.

Honestly, solar quartz is the chad's movement. Why? Because it is the most superior movement. You can get it in whatever type or style of watch you want.So the only reason for buying a mechanical watch is "I have autism".And then fags will have a debate about how much better or not expensive mechanicals are compared to more affordable options.Umm, hello? They all suck.Maybe the finishing is nice on some microscopic level that is only visible to experts, but so what?
>>18630925I don't respect the opinions of anyone who uses the term "chad". lol

>>18630868How much time have you spent wearing an actual swiss luxury watch? Like, Omega and Rolex and above? And I don't mean trying one on sitting in a chair or standing at a counter at a jewelry store, I mean actually getting dressed and putting the watch on in the morning and spending the day wearing it through work and play and driving and getting lunch and the whole thing. If you haven't then, respectfully, you simply don't know what you're talking about. If you don't think the money is worth it for you to experience this then that's fine. I'm not even disagreeing with you, really, watch prices are ridiculous in the middle to high end and most people just do not care enough about watches to justify paying that. But like with anything there are diminishing returns, sometimes to make something 20% better it costs twice or three times as much to accomplish that.

>>18631293There was this Brazilian guy in late 2010s who convinced many /wt/ users (through sheer spam and determination) that a specific store in Tokyo, Japan sells cheap non-franken vintage watches and that he bought quite a few from there. He guided many users from here to that specific store (I think it's closed now, can't find it on c24 anymore) and well, after a while and many, MANY sold watches later, an experienced user opened the watch and found a different movement inside his vintage grand Seiko than what was supposed to be in. Other users later found out re-polished cases, different backs, wrong crystals etc. turns out this Brazilian guy, whuertantonio, was working there all along. Unfortunately, traded to my ex-wife's dad for a Beretta 92FS. I think I paid $500 new from Seiko. (Pic Related)>The Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay isan innovative analog quartz watch that converts wrist movement into electrical energy, storing it in a capacitor, much like an automatic mechanical watch, but with the accuracy of quartz. Its key feature is the "Auto Relay" function, allowing it to enter a power-saving sleep mode for up to four years, stopping the hands but keeping perfect time internally;upon movement, it instantly "relays" the correct time, eliminating manual setting

There is a difference. You're doing just fine btw. I've seen worse.
>>18629480>Tell me how much minimum one needs to spend for an accurate watch. You're missing the point again. About $15 is the answer, the cost of a Casio F-91w. the point is that none of those shitters is as accurate as the Casio.

>>18630243Some time ago a lawyer posted his eclectic collection here. Some pictures were wristshots, and he was slightly overweight, as a man who eats well usually is. Some bitter anon started to call him Mortadello after a known Italian delicacy. Since then every new anon becomes a variant of that name.
>>18631597>>18631598A lot of them are good watches. I have them all here with me and I love them. They're all quite accurate for my needs. The actual shitters are piled in a cardboard box emitting a cacophony of ticks. I have at least 20 very good watches with no problems at all. Only using that highfalutin logic that $500 and up type watches are truly good can anyone dismiss my collection. Some of my favorites that I wear the most are in the $30 to $50 range. And they keep good time. I enjoy winding them. And I enjoy not winding the quartz. They all look good to me. They all fit well on me. I only have a couple of minor regrets in the bunch. And I still have 5 more good ones coming including another Seiko and a Citizen. The excitement never ends. I couldn't be happier. In a few months I might try a $500 watch, but I don't think I'll be comfortable up in that price range, collecting wise, and I really don't at this point appreciate the "finer" watches more than the ones I have. I like the romance of simple $40 watches that are worn everywhere for years. If anything I have too many watches to zero in and have that experience with any particular one. I love them all too much. I'm changing them all the time because I want to wear them all. And I still have all kinds of straps to try on them. The fun is just beginning. And I think somewhere in the attic I've got an old wall clock with the heavy weights on the chains. I might dig that out and see how it works. In the end we all like different stuff.
>>18631608>Mortadello after a known Italian delicacy.Perhaps it had something to do with a cartoon with a similar name as well, i'm not entirely sure.

what are you guys wearing today? I went with the SLGA009 also known as the white birch. It snowed today so it seemed like a nice fit.
>>18631631It's a ridiculous speedrun. I've had some almost a month now. And I'm not new to buying and owning things. I know when the shine is going to wear off and when I'm into something for the long haul. I'm always wearing one and I change them a lot and therefore there are some that I am wearing more than others. Why would this mean any less because it's happening on a more immediate timeline? I'm absolutely thrilled with at least ten of them. Of those, five or six are my favorites. I'm not even comfortable narrowing them down, so great is my appreciation for all of my shitters. As far as satisfaction for the money I feel I've gotten even more than I've paid for.

>>18631679>Mom, I posted it again!
>>18631681I think it's because a lot of people are here for the old "Japanese Culture" aspect of it. The anime and the... anime. I'm sure it branches out from there. They buy the stupid little jars of mayonnaise and shrimp crackers and other stuff which may have cute little anime characters all over it. And then of course Japan has a history of watch production. Just visually it seems like a more techy Las Vegas; a cool looking sparkly tourist area. But I'm probably thinking of just city pictures I've seen. Then again, it's not very large outside of them, all those tiny rooms you read about over the years. The whole thing where you pretend watches at that price are cheap gets pretty old too.For many of us the casual mention of "just get a Weekdater" would sooner be offensive because it's too costly and not the other way around. "Just get a..." works with Casio and Timex.
>>18631728>seriously? How do you guys have so much money? When you're single, not dating, don't have kids. It's not that difficult to splurge on something expensive once in a while. Which is kinda ironic since they buy these expensive designer brands to attract girls so it's a vicious circle i guess

I've been introducing my friend to watches and it's fascinating to see somebody completely fresh to it somehow fall for all the extremely popular picks in the broader hobby. >>18632002He just naturally gravitated to them? For me it's the opposite. I see the Rolex diver for the first time and just think, "That's it? That's what all the fuss is about?">dude, that's because you've seen them around because everyone ripped them offBut they still don't look cool to me and never did. I just have more vintage taste I guess. Classic simple designs with out a bunch of extra doohickeys that look useful but I'm never going to use. Khaki Field is the exception there. Just a nice clean watch. Everything else I just don't get the popularity. I'm certain it's more about wanting it because it's the thing to have. Just through looking around and cultural osmosis your friend was probably familiar with those ones. It's not like he picked them out of a lineup of 1,000 unique and varying watches. They say we instinctively measure everything up, glancing peripherally and subconsciously noting the comment with the most likes and attributing more importance to it. Or maybe I have it backwards and it's the peoples' lowest common denominator tastes driving the designs.
>>18632031I'm sure he feels the same way with weekdater guy being on standby to draw first blood. It's the same with anything like that. I witness it with people spiteposting anime on hobby boards. Threads are destroyed by two groups being equally petty and insisting they're justified in doing what they're doing. Meanwhile the topic is lost beneath it. There's something inside weekdate guy and his counterparts in other fields that just won't allow one to go by without them making their mark on it. Total OCD thing. Yes, I'm aware of what website I'm on. I'm just that voice of reason from the real world reminding myself and the rest of you that it's not normal.
What watches pull asian women
>>18632101The most interesting thing you wrote was>insisting they're justified in doing what they're doing. And I fully agree. It's something that I don't understand. Can we grow up? It's not fun anymore. And that passive aggressiveness is really something else. I don't think he's like that irl, he just comes here to let off some steam? But he ends up making it worse for himself. It's that addiction that we have to expose ourselves to things that make us angry for that dopamine boost.About the weekdater guy, I'm not familiar in detail but what exactly does he do except post weekdaters and tell everyone to get one?
>>18632105I'm not one of these lifers either. I'm not sure if it goes beyond that. But even if that's it, I can see it getting annoying when not a single thread goes by without it popping up. Nothing to spaz over, but I know these communities take their boards seriously. Like having a neighbor you don't get along with probably. >Dammit, he's doing it again! Every time!
>>18631998I don't believe anyone knows what you're talking about. There's more than you and the 2 avatarfags posting here, dude.
>>18632103As someone who is married to an asian woman and deals with all her asian family and friends I can tell you with confidence the only two answers are Rolex and Casio. They like casio for being rich in features while also being ridiculously cheap(they absolutely live for good deals) and Rolex is the only watch brand they recognize as being any good for showing status. Once in a while the ones that are actually into watches are into Swatch and its corporate umbrella, but they are rare and typically look like bull dykes. My wife's mother hearing that I bought a watch for our wedding was disappointed hearing that it wasn't a Rolex, but her disappointment only relented in hearing that it was solid gold. I at least had the good sense to buy gold.
>>18631907I like the cut of your jib>>18631688It's orange. I like it because it's visible from any angle. >>18631948Acktually, I had that blue one, but it was so terribly regulated out the box, I returned it. The dial was beautiful though (and have seen the green in person)>>18631954>Seiko 5 is shit lol>Been on market for 60 years>B...but Seiko sucks >Only vertically integrated company along with Rolex>not worth the price>Poorfag copeSorry your Mom got gangbanged at the Seiko corporate party.
>>18631682I've gotten good use out of the Altimeter and the thermometer, though it should be set/calibrated before use your local readings. bit disappointed to hear that about the wristband as I'm particularly found of it
>>18632183Even the watch repairmen here will tell you the Seikos are not worth the price and contain inferior parts. No sapphire under $600. Ditto hacking.>it was terribly regulated out of the box so I returned it.You're kind of contradicting yourself. So it's an emotional response with you. I'm not a poorfag and I own a couple of Seikos. I just don't think the sub-$200 Seiko 5s are worth the money for what you get at all. I also had to send one of the cheaper ones back that was busted yet sold "new". They didn't even apologize, just refunded my money as if it happens all the time. You need to work on your argument. What's longevity when their new watches commonly fail to satisfy? Why should I GAF about 'vertical integration' when a better watch is a better watch? My mom couldn't even feel those Seiko executives' little rice dicks. She had a good raff.
>>18632002It shows that there is something about those watches that is JUST RIGHT that makes them the quintessential watch in their category.
