The proportion of the cuff needs to be thicker/taller so that it balances with the larger width of the jeans. Unless you're borderline anorexic it looks absurd so a lot of guys have stopped wearing slims and instead moved to heavier denim since it constricts itself but that also comes with its own problems with how it drapes and looks in general.
