It doesn’t matter what I think because I, hopefully like you, don’t associate the raw weight of a bottle with luxury. I enjoy bottles for different aspects. For example, I oddly enjoy that DHS2021 has an acrylic cap, and somewhat wished the bottle matched it just because it’s different. I love ELDO bottles because their vaporizers are always very generous and have a fine spray, but hate how blocky and bulky they are. I love magnetic caps like Bleu de Chanel where it snaps into place, and while I still like it, I like Missoni’s magnetic caps slightly less because they (magnetically) snap straight down regardless of position, where Chanel magnetic caps snap to a specific position. I hate faux (or possibly even real) wooden caps like Goldfield and Banks. I love their frags but hate the caps on Beaufort London bottles because they don’t seat snuggly on the vaporizer, it always feels like they’re crooked.

Bee is their most popular scent, and their are definitely collectors out there, but you have to have the right buyer for stuff like that, so you either look what other people are pricing it at, drop it slightly and wait for forever for the Goldilocks buyer, or treat it like a standard bottle and perhaps mark it slightly above what a new bottle costs due to the “cool” factor. Beach Hut is popular but just expensive, not rare. Check your local market. Norne probably has a cult following, again, check local market and either list and wait for the niche enthusiast who wants their discontinued favorite, or drop the price enough that someone else sees it and buys it as a “deal”.

It’s a matter of do you want rid of them, or do you “know what you’ve got” and you’re willing to wait for that 1 in 100 million person to buy it from you.

I prefer them heavy.
I prefer elaborate glasswork even more as long as it doesn't become a tacky palm or something, but all things being the same I prefer them heavy.
Up to a point though, Dries bottle feel like they are unnecessarily thick and start to feel less luxurious again.

Just lost an auction on eBay for a 2010 bottle of Musc Ravageur. I already have a 2011 bottle (same formula) and love it, so I wanted more. I put my max bid as 379 (45/100ml bottle) and the auction ended with my bid being the highest. I refresh it again for a couple minutes and it said I was still the highest bidder, but it didn't say I had won. Eventually it told me I lost the auction and it went for 519 dollars. I used to love the 2020 bottle of Musc Ravageur I had, but after smelling the original formula (or close to it), it doesn't compare. It's a different perfume, it's not nitpicking slight differences.

I got a bottle of Guerlain Derby, it starts with a brief citrus, likely because of the age, even from the start you already get some of the woodiness. After the brief start I was surprised by the clean aromatic scent, I don't know where it came from since there is no lavender listed and that usually what I associate with it. Following the clean phase there is a very nice sophisticated smooth spice. It was a bit like cardamon to my nose but again it's not listed so it's likely the pimento or nutmeg but it's not the cheap, overdone nutmeg in other fragrances of the era. Finally it settles into smooth mossy woodiness. The main competitor and comparison is Patou Pour Homme. I think they resemble each other at first but they go different directions. Derby has more transitions and changes drastically, the Patou feels more multifaceted but with subtle transitions. Derby is the greatest hits album, Patou is the album without filler. I think Derby goes for a jack of trades and that it does so much is quite impressive. Patou PH does masculine aromatic woodiness and impresses with it's execution. Performance wise the Patou lasts a bit longer and Derby has slightly better projection at first. They're both cozy, noticeably dated scents which are fun to contemplate but they don't have modern performance and sensibility. This is my first impression of Derby, I've had more time to appreciate Patou PH. Only deranged collectors should ever feel like they are missing out on these overpriced relics.

my opinion after trying these on blotters:
Pour Monseiur EDP, Egoiste, Platinum Egoiste all opened with petitgrain which makes the scent effervescent, like aldehydes do. Maybe it's the power of advertising, but they give off the feeling of opening a bottle of champagne (chanel=champagne). After a few minutes they dry down to different scents. I really wanted to like Egoiste, and as it was drying down I kept telling myself it was Polge's favorite, but to me there was a rancid note in it, maybe it was the musk? I preferred Platinum Egoiste (summertime herby wood) and Pour Monseiur EDP (woody vanilla) which apparently is just the old PM Concentree.

Antaeus is a subtle leather scent and I think it's much better than TF tuscan leather, which smelled like a lady's handbag to me, but it doesn't suit my suits and sport coats style. But if you're a jeans and boots anon like

No idea, I never smelled it. If it's from iris I wouldn't dispute that. For the record I like some types of powderiness so I don't always pick up on it. I know someone who hates powdery and they seem to pick up on it almost everywhere. In my collection I have one main powdery iris (Prada d'Homme), and one main powdery violet/cashmeran (Malle Dans Tes Bras), the other powderiness in my collection is benzoin/leather (DG Velvet Wood) and an old Mysore Sandalwood. Powderiness can come from different sources and I'm not the best judge of its source.

Is Secretions really as edgy as they say? I keep trying these edgy perfumes and then end up being wholly inoffensive. Cuoium and Stercus were both extremely pleasant. Spinal Fluid was interesting and avante garde but not le hecking evil. The most offensive things I’ve tried have just been shitty releases like Paradigm. Secretions is only $80 so I’m thinking of just blind buying it.

I also got a bottle of Dior Oud Rosewood. This completes the "oud" quartet from Dior, they are not too similar or "oudy" but I wanted to have them all. Oud Rosewood is a bit linear, starts off with smooth woods before opening up its fruity sweetness. I can't decipher all the notes but there is certainly rosewood so if you ever smell those old rosaries it smells like that. It also smell like old wooden furniture. You can pick up leather and smoky notes but I have to conjure them myself before I can actually smell them. I have to really be generous to give into any animalic notes, maybe early on but mostly to support the scent. I mainly get the rosewood with the underlying sweetness, the notes list raspberry and quince but I just pick up it up as a kind of dessert. I like Oud Rosewood, it's not mind blowing but it's unique and intriguing in my collection. It's a woman repellent however, with good reason, it's dated two different ways. First the rosewood smells very vintage, like sitting in grandmas old chair, and secondly the sweetness is similar to one overused in modern women's perfume. If you have tried a lot of perfumes or if you are familiar with mainstream women's perfumes it will probably not be to your liking. For me even if it pushes the edge of my tolerance for sweetness it does not go overboard. I find it serene and meditative, I know it works in cool weather but I really want to try the scent in warm weather. It will probably kill me but I think it's a relaxing scent I would love to enjoy in summer. Even if its a smooth scent it does perform. You get a nice projection bubble for 3-4 hours that people near you will notice. After that it settles down but it's still noticeable and I can smell it vividly on my arm when going to bed.

Can I get a list of fragrances under $50 on ebay that isn't shit? So far I've got Dior Homme Sport, Spicebomb, Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua de Essenziale Blu, JPG Ultra Male, Versace Dylan Blue and Rochas' Moustache.

L’eau D’Issey Pour Homme Intense is starting to hit $20 shelves at drugstores. I believe its done by Belletrud who is currently the in-house perfumer for LV. Acqua di Gio is also cheap and very good. I'm especially curious about Hala, supposedly similar to Bois d'Encens, Ajwaa, supposedly similar to Legacy of Petra, and Spicy Amber, supposedly similar to Encens Suave.
The arabshit I've tried has mostly not been worth it but I did find a couple of bottles that I ended up buying, so wish me luck for this set.

Try the Superleggera too if you can. It’s a more modern version of the EDT. No aldehydes, very fresh citrus and less musk in the base.


I’m at an airport right now so I tried No19 EDT and Allure Homme (the original). No19 kind of reminds me of Grey Flannel, but more subdued and more modern by about 20 years, with softer florals. Allure Homme is reminding me of a crisper, shinier, and lighter Lalique PH. Neither are super interesting. Everything else at the counter I either have, or have sampled except No22 and the newer feminines. I think if you ever wanted to gift a fragrance for anyone you can really not go wrong with Chanel.

Is there a fragrance like YSL Libre but masculine?
Thing is, I really love the lavandula in Libre but obviously, the fragrance is feminine. Some reviewers say the note is screechy, but that's what I like. Libre has a vanilla drydown, which I'm not a fan of. Some suggested MYSLF, but it's too citrusy for me, I just want a shameless lavender bomb.

It's weird. Very floral, but not feminine, a bit like a cleaning product at first but there is a creamy green fir note on the base that is quite enticing. I considered getting rid of it but decided to keep it since it's quite interesting and unique in my collection. A bit overrated online but something that makes you curious. The fir makes it smell a little cheap, like a really well done drugstore scent, not like a luxury product. It's advertised as a bright and happy summer fragrance but to me it's a cool weather gothic scent. Performance is as expected of the time, acceptable, not stellar.

My wife mentioned she used to like wearing Marc by Marc Jacobs back in the day. It's discontinued now, and I was wondering if there might be anything similar that's still on the market. There are bottles for like $400+ on eBay, but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on that for the moment. Someone on r*ddit mentioned she also used to love it and enjoyed Gucci's Gorgeous Gardenia, do you have any other recommendations for something with a fresh, white floral kind of presentation?

So if you over spray it can makes dogs throats tighten. Avoid doing an overspray in a room with no air ventilation.

2 sprays just a sneeze. I do not recommend owning it if you own a dog. Weirdly my dog kinda liked the smell, a spray should do next to no harm at all in public.The thing is that it projects incredibly well in the first hour. I’m having to shelf my bottle because i just got another dog.

How does A*Men hold up? The descriptions I read of an asphalt/rubber/tar note make it sound interesting, but maybe the newer batches tone this down?

I was looking at some of the newer flankers too, like A*Men Stellar. Then I remembered my gf has a sample of Angel Stellar, so I sprayed it on a strip. There's a 'chocolate whey' aspect to this, and if I dig in I do get that rubber note. But it's not the 'tennis ball' rubber I find in some scents, more like medical gloves.

desu "date night" scents are just marketing really. you can wear anything that smells nice to a date. i used to switch it up when i wasdating and Y EDP was a solid pick. i also got good feedback from Givenchy Rserve Privee and TF Noir Extreme Parfum.

I can't speak for the new ones, I have a vintage and it's just a delicious masculine sweet patchouli. It has the most amazing green top note, then you get a "cocktail" of different kinds of sweets. I'm usually sensitive to sweet scents but more when it's paired with predominantly woody notes. A*Men is definitely sweet and if I wear it in the heat it kills me but in the cold it's very tame, the vintage doesn't even have insane performance. The sweetness does get a little synthetic maybe a bit rubbery but I don't get anything too strong like tar. Definitely try it to see if it holds up and if you like it.

juvenile. you could wear it to the mall, arcade, bowling maybe. that's about all that i think it's suited for. basically unwearable if you're over 25. the red apple note makes it probably the sweetest in the line. i haven't tried the original born in roma edt yet, but i prefer intense or extradose over coral fantasy. extradose stands out as the best flanker in the line by far, having given it a full wear multiple times. coral fantasy smells amazing on a tester strip but too sweet on skin for me for the first hour.

assuming you're a younger guy. get a mass appealing, good quality designer, but get the small bottle or travel spray. stronger with you intensely and la nuit de l'homme are both very popular with women. lndlh is wearable all year, but the effect of wearing a gourmand like stronger with you in the right setting is unmatched. you could also look at the spicebomb line or d&g the one. go to sephora or ulta and try them before buying anything, then order online from a reseller like fragrancenet or jomashop. it's not effay to wear mainstream designer but it will give you very practical results
