For me the worst thing about shorts above the knee isn't even how they look but how antipractical they are. Like first of all they tend to be rather tight, so uncomfortable. Second they allow for far less pocket space, meaning I can't carry any of my shit. And third they actually make me feel even hotter in the heat because of the sun hitting more of my bare legs plus extra risk of sunburn and having to put on extra sunscreen.

Yeah...how about no? It was a very long and gradual process of me going from these shorts to the 5 inch inseams I currently wear now due to a close friend of mine boasting about how comfortable his 5 inch inseam shorts are and me wanting to see what the big deal was about. I did it in baby steps. I started off with a 15 inch inseam then moved on to 14, 13, 12, etc. Eventually I was at the knees and that was a challenge to get used to. Then I started to go above the knee and that was an even bigger challenge to get used to.

To be clear this process actually took place over several years so it wasn't overnight. I specifically became extremely stagnant around the knees and it took me forever to move to above my knees. I did notice though that with every inch I removed from the inseam I was more and more comfortable. And when I got to 5 inch inseams I was the most comfortable I had ever been.

I am not about to undo all that progress just because of the current trend lmfao. I imagine that at this point after getting used to 5 inch inseam shorts that shorts this long would feel like outright torture. Like if I wanted something long I'd just wear pants.

Wow same here. Though for me it also goes in the other direction with short shorts. I think of them as regular knee length shorts but then they grew up becoming taller and all their old childhood shorts don't fit them properly anymore hence becoming short shorts. Also doesn't help that a lot of short shorts are pretty tight. With this mental image not sure if the long shorts or short shorts are worse.

White women are actually the most modestly dressed ones from my experience, especially if they're religious. Even Asian women who are thought of as the most conservative and formal wear the literal shortest skirts and dresses around. While anime is very often oversexualized and unrealistic for better or for worse the really short skirts in anime are pretty accurate to how Japanese women actually dress. They cover up their upper bodies but show a looooot of leg. Granted I'm pretty sure most of them wear safety shorts underneath though I could be wrong.
