>>18653460Gotta keep it bumped so the fags who keep making watch, boot, selvage, workwear, trad/ivy, menswear, and fragrance threads get the hint that everyone knows they’re a shill operation.
>>18653258Just blame r*ddit and move on.
There is no point in effortposting anywhere on 4chan or other parts of the surface level internet anymore. The internet is too easy to access thanks to every child having a phone, tablet or laptop, and every home having an internet connection; people grow up being able to access the internet as a normal part of life. In the 2000's and even creeping into the 10's in some areas, internet access was uncommon and required relatively knowledge and equipment (access to a computer and an internet connection); you had to make an effort to get online, and putting effort into things is too hard for the average person. Thus the surface level internet was full of people who were nerds, specialists and other geeky social outcasts; the average quality of discussion was higher because there were fewer people to drag it down, Myspace aside. If someone wanted to say something online, their options would be limited to a forum or usenet group of likeminded users dedicated to a specific topic, a comments section on an early Youtube video or a blog, or to create their own website, which required expert knowledge and time/money investment.Along comes social media, showing up right before the iPhone. Suddenly, not only does John Smith have an easy to use platform, but also an easy to use device that lets him access the internet from anywhere in the world, and he doesn't even need to own a computer.I believe that the quality of (discussion on) a website decreases the easier it is to access. You can observe this without leaving 4chan; boards like /p/ have some of the best content on the website because it has a relatively high barrier to entry - both effort and monetary - and therefore a slow post rate. On the other hand, fast boards like /v/ are notoriously low quality because of the low barrier to entry and short lifespan of threads, discouraging long, well written posts. The physical dimensions of a phone also does this, because writing a good post on a small screen is difficult.
>>18654210All the good posters on /fa/ grew up and moved on, either quitting /fa/ggotry or moving to mainstream websites, and there was noone to replace them. The trouble is that it's not possible for forums like sufu, /fa/, stylezeitgeist etc to exist again; this goes beyond fashion and extends to all hobbies and interests. The internet is ruined now, the signal to noise ratio being too low with good, genuine discussion being drowned out by shitposts, normalfags, advertising and heavy handed often automated moderation. You can still find good places to discuss things, dig through archives and posts from 10+ years ago, but the type of person into fashion and the nerd behind 7 proxies in a private IRC channel are two very different people.Lurk m0ar, board and site culture are also largely dead, the former having disappeared from the internet's zeitgeist and the latter being replaced by stateless wojak and frog spam that's infected the entire internetI would also add that the social acceptability of fashion, and increasing ubiquity of fake clothes, has been disastrous for it as an interest. You end up with people like >>18653262 polluting online spaces with pointless, garbage posts and terrible outfits. And it's in the interest of fashion companies to make easy to wear clothing, because normals don't want to put effort into things. Why should someone wear 6 pairs of pants to look /effay/ when they could just slap on $1000 'vintage' jeans that look like they belong on an incontinent 500 pound woman and call it a day? I get more out of /fa/ by looking at threads from the golden era; very very little is worth browsing for here lately. Everything (?) is saved on warosu and you'll never run out of genuinely valuable, interesting content.
>>18653448Same with every hobby/interest forum. Nobody besides aging uncs use image boards and forums now. Everyone's on tiktok, instagram, jewtube or discord.
I’m checking this board for the first time since, like, 2010, and I have no idea when the OP pic was created, but it’s insane if people are still Rickposting today. You’re an aging millennial like me unc, time to call it in and get back to the spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentations.
>>18653488And what should they make threads about instead?
>>18654274No, nigger. people will always hate blacks regardless of kikes. Blacks are literally the worst race on the planet.
>>18654280I think that image is from 2013-2014 maybe even earlier.
>>18654295Thanks, how funny. I only regularly browsed /fa/ back in 2008 to 2009 when I was in my last year of high school (though I'd check back in every couple years for a while; the Rick Owens stuff got bigger after I stopped being a regular iirc) and remember the conventional wisdom at that time was to buy Levi 511s and a pea coat. Fucked up.
>>18654337I was reading through the archives today and saw someone talking about selvedge 511s and I honestly got full body chills
>>18654337man the peacoat years were bleak, that whole early 2010s 'book of manliness' crap
>>18654358>peacoatI wanted to buy one again, but I think the date has passed on them.
>>18653258Rickfags and other obscure/avant-garde/artisan fashion fags went to two (maybe more?) discords. Stopped posting here.
>>18654358Yeah, it was the era of basically-menswear-but-trying-to-be-10%-different fashion for a new 4chan board that was trying to establish its own image without much to go off of. I don’t remember if the whole Reddit r/mfa stuff was around then (if it was, I don’t recall visiting it at the time), but it all sucked really. I have nostalgia for it, though.
>>18654221what bothers me most is that the only(!) modus operandi left anywhere on here is talking shit (without posting fit). everyone is too cool to like something. bad example, but thinkin back you had people calling that one lunarcore dude a retard but there were also people who enjoyed his stuff, people who didn't but also wanted to explore lunarcore in their own way. it's like a new generation of internet users heard about how "edgy and trolly" 4chan is and how you can call people faggots and trannies without repercussions and they decided that would be all they were gonna do. the great migration of specialists/nerds and people with passion for things who fucked off into various discords has lowered the quality of discussion so hard. but discord sucks ass since there's no cross-server discussion and everyone retreated into their bubble while also bringing back the worst part of early 2000's online communities: egos and cliques, people ass-kissing people because of who they are instead of what they have to say and mods going on powertrips. i wish we could go back.
>>18654337You forgot about getting the Hitler youth/young Stalin haircut
Fashion trends come and go. People get tired of a look then move onto another, and it's usually contrarian and cyclical.

>>18654466I still have a peacoat, but it's long and it's YYPH.
>>18654387People used to wax lyrical about the benefits of anonymity on here. It's sad because now it's needed more then ever in an age where people literally get paid for commanding a "personal brand" on the internet.
>>18654425Not really. There are people of all ages on tiktok, instagram and jewtube shorts. Algorithms are designed to make you addicted to slop by track your consumption patterns. It's over for normalfags.
>>18654246>Those people can change their style. Then why do they all look like they stepped out of Banana Republic for almost fifteen years? They also insist that you can never deviate from looking like you’re going for a job interview at a journalism firm.
>>18654422You can literally replace the Rick characters with anything else yet keep the Wojak and the point still stands. Just about every general thread aside from hair and skincare threads are described in that Wojak standing in the corner and faggots still haven’t moved on. The weirdest part is how militant people are on this board now stating you must look like that or else you’re called a child or a nigger, which is nothing but gaslighting and lies.

I think the biggest thing is 4chans demographic change over the past ten years. Not only did 2016 bring a lot of election tourists but everyone on here is old now. If you look in the archive back in 2014 and before there were regular posts about being in college. Not so much anymore. Most people naturally get less interested in fashion as the age I think.

>>18654210>boards like /p/ have some of the best content on the website/p/ fell off extremely hard. I was there in 2014-16 then took a decade-long break. 90% of new posts now are brainless brand shitflinging and schizoposting done by a small handful of people that always make it their duty to derail every tangentially gear-related discussion into a biggest tard contest.
Red pill me on watch and fragrance threads. There’s no way those are organic.
>>18655954all general threads are nothing but shills and other bad actors
>>18655954Fascinating. I think men really do sperg out about watches . . . Even when they cannot actually afford most all of the ones they talk about. But you may be right about fragrance. How do people talk so much about normie-mainstream men's fragrances? I guess they want to attract chicks? But sperging about the historical, and classic fragrances is near-non existent on those threads. Where is the individualism and sophistication which comes with wearing a legacy fragrance? -- Nowhere to be seen. Rather, discussions about the stuff that the mall sells to fuckboys.
>>18655958It’s obvious, but why on this board? I can understand a political board, a video game board, or even an adult board have some sort of shilling, but why here? What’s the narrative they’re pushing? The only people who I know who care about watches are third-worlders stuck in the past or people trying to hype value into an item like NFTs or crypto.>>18655961Again. Seems dated like people from a poor nation. Like Arab cab drivers who bathe in cologne and wear chains. Pickup artist types who dress like they’re going to a nightclub and smell like battery acid. Like you said, the shit they shill can be found at a basic store at the mall like Macy’s or Nordstrom.

>>18658112Nobody is mean here. If anything, old /fa/ was mean, but the posters were at least experienced and had some sort of vision. Now it’s just shilling and spam.
>>18654210>like /p/ have some of the best content on the website
>is x effay>what makes this soipeople are more interested in aesthetics and looking cool rather than actually being interested in fashion. there hasn't been a diy thread in 2 1/2 months. no one talks about fashion week/new collections aside from the one or two "controversial" pieces. even the generals which used to have slightly more quality posts compared to the average, are now just people parroting the same things since covid
>>18658112Also ppl used to be occasionally mean but insightful whereas now there's way too many lowest common denominator spouting retarded opinions. Case in point: the average "review" on imdb with midwits extolling frankenmovies and giving low ratings to more complex movies
>>18658207The whole point of fashion IS aesthetics and looking cool. Thing is, everyone keeps posting the same outdated carbon copy smart-casual dweeb outfits since 2012. The mentality of this board is fedora-tier and mimics r/mfa to a fucking tee.

>>18658262Giving smartphones and the internet to the unwashed masses was a mistake. The internet should have never been turned into a means of consuming slop and generating endless engagement.

>>18658287retarded algorithm-brained take. fashion is about self-expression and creativity. stop giving a shit what other people on the internet think about your outfit and actually wear what you like
>>18658590I agree with you that it's about self-expression and creativity, but to express yourself is to have something that you want to convey. Feedback can be useful because you can see if the vibe you want to create is actually being created. Of course there is bad feedback too which should be ignored due to it not being useful, but anyone trying to express themself should be considering if their message is being received.

>>18658824True. There's a troll in every thread who doesn't own shit and is prepared to try and insult everything anyone posts. They're bitter about their failed lives and they want to spread misery. >>18653258zoomers didn't pick up the slack oldfags have nothing to discuss
>>18660648It’s not oldfags in general. Old /fa/ had a larger variety. Now it’s just a few bitter aging faggots who are trying to force a “smart” look insisting they’re distinguished and still hip. They’re mad that someone new took away their spotlight. The rest are scammers behind three watch threads and a fragrance thread.
I miss doug
Plain and simple: there’s just better places to discuss fashion. Slow board plus the reactionary/outrage posts just dissuade people from actually wanting to post something meaningful. The last 4 recurring generals are just echo chambers with the occasional contrarian/tourist calling people gay for liking something. A lot of low effort posts skirting by because the jannies dindoshit. Why would I post something meaningful when it’s just going to be surrounded by is (thing) fa posts. I blame the low barrier of entry to post to be honest. It used to be good but lack of gatekeeping/lurking just makes any retard spout whatever is at the tip of their tongue.
>>18660708The generals aren’t even organic. The majority of them don’t even like watches and cologne. It’s a business. The boot threads and menswear threads are by folks who are upset that the trends are changing and that it’s not the 2010s anymore where everyone looks like they work at a BoHo hipster office in Seattle. They hate younger people who now get more attention than they do. They even try to artificially prop up a false narrative that they’re the “it” style or the general consensus of what is /fa/ or looks best.

Funniest thing about how much /fa/ sucks is 2chan's fashion board is still going strong. You also have to remember 2chan got stolen from Hiroshimoot by the guy who owns 8 chan and so he had to start up an entirely new site, which is 5chan:https://mevius.5ch.io/fashion/Whenever that happens and an imageboard gets destroyed there's basically a loss of momentum that's never replaced. That's what happened when Krautchan got destroyed. It got remade as Kohlchan but it was never the same, certain famous posters never returned, the numbers never went back and it's been a long slow decline ever since. Same thing happened with 2chan but it's managed to bounce back as 5chan somehow. So 4channers really have zero excuse. Their Japanese counterparts went through having their site and /fa/ board destroyed and still managed to resurrect it and keep it active to this very day.Look at their threads, they actually have general threads for dressing in your 30's and 40's, and I've even seen generals for 50's and 60's (although they obviously fall off page 10 much easier). But something like that would massively help to curtail the unreal amount of generationslop arguing that goes on across the board. They also deal with a fuck ton of people only wanting to talk about basic shit like Muji and Uniqlo but they just keep poorfags in their containment threads. They also have entire threads about roasting people who only wear Uniqlo which are pretty funny. Obviously they have a lot of unc posters too (pretty much no one cares about Hiroshi Fujiwara under the age of 30 but he still has a general). but they also have a healthy amount of zoomers discussing currently hyped shit like Comoli.
>>18674627So I don't really believe any of the arguments that people make about why /fa/ sucks so bad. There's no real reason. To be fair they don't really have effort posting on 5chan it's a lot of one sentence replies and reacting to shit like Instagram posts or YouTube videos. Also Japan doesn't have Reddit which 100% steals a huge amount of traffic from 4chan. But otherwise there's not really any real excuse. /fa/ just sucks ass and isn't good and it has nothing to do with the modern internet or peoples ages or whatever. In fact when you think about it people getting older should actually lead to BETTER fashion discussions because people have more money to spend. That's why I think 5chan's /fa/ board is so good, their visvim thread for example actually has like a half dozen regular posters that go to the trunk shows and order shit full price all the time. This is kinda true in the West as well actually. The guy in here who said forums in the west are dead is somewhat wrong too. Fedora Lounge is still active af because it's all Milsurp autists in their 60's with tons of money. I think Style Forum is still relatively active, again guys with money that are tailoring autists. The Fashion Spot is genuinely active (women into purses with money) and is like the only place online you can discuss current runway shows as they happen. Style Zeitgeist and SuperFuture ARE dead but people forget both those forums had actively antagonistic management that chased off a ton of really funny, iconic, and high contributing posters. So their decline can't be chalked up as much to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok taking over. But the point is there are actually places to discuss clothes online in the West that aren't 4chan and are active AND Japanese /fa/ is active af.At a certain point you just gotta accept there's something more going on with why /fa/ is bad and as a huge ex tripfag I honestly don't really know the answer.
>>18674627I think part of the problem with /fa/ is that the old guard just gave up on it. When we were all kids and first discovered this place, there was already a crop of older anons who would call everyone retarded constantly, for good reason. People I know irl who used to browse this place regularly would rather just not bother with that. I was the same way for a while, but I figured I'd try giving back to this place. Call me a schizo or whatever, but honestly I think there's probably a discord of trannies out there that just want to shit the place up.
>>18674629Also I should add to the effort posting comment. I think Japanese /fa/ in general has more one word / one sentence replies than we do but that doesn't mean they don't effort post at all. Back in 2023 Rick Owens did a book signing in Tokyo and threw a crazy after party and one of the anons from the Rick general on 2ch attended and did a field report, pic related. So while a lot of their posts are just like one sentence insults or telling each other to go back to twitter or kill themselves or whatever, when they do effort post it also kicks the shit out of /fa/. It's not like we have the occasional effort post and they don't. They just deff have more like super short fuck you type replies to each other. It's possibly even more mean spirited on average over there than here.
>>18674627>>18674629>>18674634You answered the question yourself. When was the last time you saw someone on /fa/ go to a show? /fa/'s userbase is spread across a geographically much larger area than 5/fa/'s; We don't have access to brick and mortar reuse shops the way they do in Japan and are often forced to shop online to find anything interesting. Few of us live in places where runway shows are accessible. Plenty of people here, myself included, live in flyover states or countries where fashion isn't a consideration for the average person, not to mention the >walkable cities thing.>Fedora Lounge is still active af because it's all Milsurp autists in their 60's with tons of money. I think Style Forum is still relatively active, again guys with money that are tailoring autists. The Fashion Spot is genuinely active (women into purses with money) and is like the only place online you can discuss current runway shows as they happen. The running theme among all of these is that all of these people have money and are willing to spend it. So many people on /fa/ are poorfags or tourists who are allergic to spending more than $10 on a tshirt. Japan's reuse scene alleviates the pressure of paying retail, and the normalization of fashion in their urban centers means that (older) people who can afford retail are happy to pay.>>18674631I agree with this guy, there's not really a point in putting effort into an already thankless task when there are few if any like minded people around.
Culture aside, I think the key issue is moderation. Many of these issues can be solved by turning them into rules and actually enforcing them. This is also a slow board, so it's not like you need a team and constant supervision.>Delete spam/off-topic threads and ban users who post them>No complaints about price unless the thread was created to discuss things at a certain price point
>>186747822ch has tons of people that live in the middle of nowhere. i know because they have like 8 different slurs for them (potato farmer, mountain monkey etc.) and they get constantly roasted by tokyoites. they also have tons of poorfags. they literally have TWO uniqlo generals and they're basically the most active generals on their board. /fa/ has always had richfags and people that live in NYC / London / LA / Paris. so you're just wrong thinking 2ch is all rich tokyoites and that's why their /fa/ is better. all those forums i mentioned are also full of poorfags too. so once again /fa/ really has no excuse so the question still remains unanswered for why it's so shitty. >>18674823not happening, runs counter to the spirit of the website. tons of other slow boards like /p/ and /tr/ just self police by not responding to the threads everyone hates. none of the other sites i mentioned require heavy moderation either. i dont know if moderation is ever the answer anywhere just look at plebbit. xitter is having a renaissance because they got rid of their moderation.
>>18654387This is true and applies to all boards, sadly
>>18674265This.
>>18674860Deleting spam threads is absolutely a moderation problem though. Because even if no one replies to a spam thread, there's nothing stopping the retard from continuing to make them. Off-topic and low quality threads need to be deleted.
>>18653258>full of shit-tier people>get shit>full of retarded bait>get shit
>>18653258nothing good
>>18653258the fundamental issue is, in my humble newfag opinion, a lack of generational changethere simply aren't enough new people to replace those who leavethe reasons are manifold but if i had to specify one which specifically impacted my experience was the complete lack of moderationyou have no idea how many denim generals, waywt and other threads i've seen get ruined by just a couple of trolls (which never posted their fits keep in mind) obsessed with trans peopleit took the fun out of posting and drove away tons of quality posters>>18660707me and him are moots on xitter, he's doing alrightit really was an ill omen when he, that one avant-garde trans woman and quite a few other regulars stopped posting fits on the waywt>>18674631>I think there's probably a discord of trannies out there that just want to shit the place upsee? there was (and probably still is honestly) a anti-trans troll problem on here and people still manage to blame the harassed
>>18674627>>18674629>>18674634>>18674634Interesting comments and perspective
>>18675160the worst part is the shit thread spam just knocks slow threads off the caralogue.
Whew! Almost lost this thread!
>>18674265They hated him, for he spoke the truth.
>>18675905>see? there was (and probably still is honestly) a anti-trans troll problem on here and people still manage to blame the harassedI don't think it's a problem if trans people aren't posting themselves. Trans people are less than 1% of the population in the US and much less of a thing worldwide, losing the trannies isn't what would kill a board. Why some people post against trannies is that they're just using this as a safe space to "pass" and feel good about themselves, while they have no interesting fashion ideas and don't even look well put together or pleasing. It's just disingenuous, like girls who post in an online gaming community and drop references to their own gender or their own pics as a way to get validation.
>>18677406Have to agree. Not to mention most of the trannies and femboys just post bait and borderline fetish threads.
>>18677406>Trans peopletrans is not a race of people.
What DID happen to this board? I feel like it got raided or is being raided.
>>18677442Crucial comment. I love stupid people.
>>18653258Board went based, bullying the neofolk-, porkwear-, suitcels
