I’m new to shopping for winter jackets and can’t find one that isn’t mostly plastic and/or doesn’t look like shit. What jackets does /fa/ where on the cold? Do people really pay 300 bucks for a bag of polyester?

N-1 deck jackets will always be the timeless classic. For a down jacket, Rocky Mountain Featherbed

You're gonna have to define what "Winter" means, to you, because there's a big difference between regions, elevations, humidity, and wind pressures that "some coat" and "survival gear" can vary between what you think is comfy and what might actually save your life after a matter of MINUTES of being outside.

For simplicity and general warmth i like military field jackets, cheap at surplus stores or good will, shop around theynlook like this, some have hoods and are extra thick, just my preference https://forcesjackets.com/product/brandit-jacket-m65-standard/
