I don't think rolex is all that interesting and i don't pine for what i can't afford. You guys are lucky you buy so many rolex. girls think sexy.

Do I get it? I've regretted not getting the limited edition Iris, now it's available in a boring monochrome version which I'm not sure yet how I feel about.
>>
>>18664195
I like Ming, how they start from scratch and not just copy the same old design elements from other brands.
The bracelet on this one is what really steals the show; but not a fan of the curved lugs (art deco vibes)

Also, people say it's overpriced for a 3D printed watch.
>>
>>18664196
Only the bracelet is 3D printed, no?
Anyway the bracelet is damn cool but I'm not convinced what's essentially an overengineered milanese band works that well on such a chonky watch. I liked the look of the Iris on padded leather more.
Looking at it again I think I just wanted the Iris.
>>
>>18664204
The dial is futuristic but the case reminds me of the Empire State Building
>>
>>18664206
That's a good thing.
But it's bullshit when they make "limited edition" stuff and charge a lot for it. What if I wanted one and I don't want to pay over $500? Make more. Make one for me.
But put the crown on the correct size for mine, thanks.

I have multiple luxury watches including a rolex and I've been unironically thinking about a watch with all or mostly brushed finishes as a work watch. If this is a wearable size with a good bracelet, maybe even the current explorer bracelet, it's in the running. The only strike is it doesn't have a date, but a lot of smaller field type watches don't have day or date anymore.

Actually he was mostly pretty respected outside of one generational autist, and it was because he did everything the right way and behaved the exact opposite way of the modern avatarfags - He had a wide collection of a lot of different watches but he was humble about it and didn't constantly post them as a signature or for attention and didn't spam posts of multiple paragraphs every day trying to convince everyone his watches were the best thing ever. As far as I know he never took a wristshot at dinner and blogged about how his day was going, or made a paid whore stack his watches on her body for a picture.
>>
>>18665139
>or made a paid whore stack his watches on her body for a picture.
Huge missed opportunity right there
>>
>>18665139
>didn't constantly post them as a signature
You’re right about everything but this. He definitely used his limited set of pics as signatures. He never updated them either.

>take some better pics of your watches please.
>No, it’s the same watch, so I’ll just use the same pic.
>>
>>18665086
They're not "worthless," It's just not a pile of hype pieces. It's a genuine collection of a lot of different stuff that he likes - have you seen so many bullhead chronographs in one collection before? A lot of men with his money and ability build a collection as if they saw a magazine article about the top 10 hypest watches and just went down the list buying them all, and they end up with a collection that's like 7 rolexes and 3 pateks and a speedmaster. He has a lot of stuff at every price level and his passion even goes into pocket watches and desk clocks. He's the kind of guy that genuinely likes watches, buys watches because he likes them, and doesn't care what you think about them.
>>
>>18665142
But he was TALKING about the watch, that's the thing. He wouldn't just post the watch for no reason.
>>
>>18665143
Ok, not “worthless”. Poor choice of wording. They do not have very much resale value, less than a few hundred dollars. I was responding to anon who was asking about the value of the collection. The overall collection is worth quite a bit, but the majority of the value is limited to a few pieces in the front row.
>>
>>18665144
Yes he was. You don’t remember when he would post My_Breguet.jpeg with just “Sup?”
>>
>>18664053
>No shitters allowed (except Grand Seiko off course).
How about on course? Can i post a regular old Seiko? It's really nice, almost a Grand Seiko, i promise.
>>
>>18665144
Bullshit. He’d be talking about a completely different watch and would use one of his pics to make sure we knew it was him answering.
>>
>>18664054
How fucking boring can you be, Rolex
>>
>>18665149
Was it because someone was asking for his opinion or something? Sometimes posters would directly address him about something, lending credence to the idea that he was respected and some people cared what he thought about stuff.
>>
>>18665152
No, not always. He just liked using his pics as signatures. He even got a ban for it once back when we had moderation.
>>
>>18665150
That’s not a real model. That’s a render of what some journalist thought Rolex might make.
>>
>>18664669
>>18664992
Unfortunately I want the Pepsi. Anywhere from 50-100% above retail. I can wait though I’m sure it’ll go down eventually. Who knows maybe they’ll release better shades of blue for the bezel later on and get rid of the polished center links.

So you only own Swiss and German watches then? You must. Because Japan sucks and anything made in America sucks. China obviously. Even their parts are shit, so that disqualifies a whole lot of international watchmakers right there.

Just Germany and Switzerland make good watches. That's a good rule to go by. Thanks for establishing that. I'm sure we'll have a lot less traffic now, but it's quality we're going for, not quantity.

I sold my last Patek, a 5196g. I was sad to see it go but I never wore it and, to be honest, the silver on silver dial and hands were difficult to read.
I made 6,500 USD in the bargain, though.

I’m not sure what I should get. I don’t think a collection is complete without a Patek, and the classic 80’s banker’s watch 3919 calls to me but I worry that it would be too small at 33.5mm

Does anyone have experience with the 3919?

I feel you, brother. I sympathize completely with your plight because I've been there myself. Patekless for a bit. I felt NAKED without a Patek in my collection. How do people even get by without one?

I've had my share of 3919s of course, as any collector worth his salt has. My advice is to get it serviced six months before suggested. Other than that it runs like a dream. And it runs like a dream because of that tip I just gave you. I find the 3919 is really more of an everyday wear than the style would suggest. Of course, when you buy and sell little men all day long you really wear what you want, am I right? Heh heh. Life is good.

Even a random speedmaster like these completely mogs every daytona that has ever existed. It's a better design, and it came before the daytona too. I think the reason people might shit on the reduced sizes is because the L2L distance of a speedmaster is only 47mm, which is wearable for wristlets. The 38.5mm Lange 1 also has a 47mm L2L distance. It's an incredibly wearable watch and it doesn't really *need* to be reduced unless you're an actual woman with micro-wrists.

What is a beginner’s watch?

Do you need help with reading the big hand and little hand?

A watch is a watch. There’s no “beginner level”.
>oh, buddy watch out! That’s a JLC. Those aren’t beginner watches. You’ll break your wrist if you try to tell time on one before you’re ready!

The idea of a beginner watch is predicated on the idiotic idea of a watch journey. Like, you have to start with cheap shitters before you get to buy medium-priced shitters and then FINALLY you’ll be ALLOWED to buy the watch you want. Fuck that.

What’s your budget and what style of watch do you like? That’s all that’s important.

You judge watches based on the "sOciAL iMpLiCaTiOnS" of the brand rather than the watch itself. lolex isn't lolex because the brand is represented by zendeya, it's lolex because the watch you get keeps time like piss despite having an overcoil hairspring, there are 50 billion variants diluting each model as if it's Hublot, the cases and bracelets are chunky, unfinished slabs, and there's ZERO historical significance outside of the GMT Master II.
Most lolex models get mogged by Cartier, for God's sake.

Nice deflection. It's impossible for an informed consumer to spend five digits on a watch and come home with a rolex. You'd have to be a normalfaggot to end up with one.
pic very much related
feel free to actually address the watches themselves if you actually have any interest in horology.

You should calculate what percentage of your life you’ve wasted on hating a watch company.

Imagine if you’d taken that time and gone to the gym or made friends. Then you wouldn’t be here polluting a watch thread with your venom.

Again, it's not the company. It's the watches themselves. There are rolex models I like, they're just not in production anymore and I don't care for buying used beaters.
Contrary to your own interests, I actually really like watches and learning about the technology and history behind them. Besides my wedding band it's the only jewelry I ever wear, and my family has a lot of "watch guys" too. Like many things on this website, what you perceive as hatred is actually just a love of something wonderful, which makes inferior options even less desirable. Again, please feel free to address some of the mechanical and design pros/cons of lolex in this WATCH THREAD.

It’s really just a form of oppositional defiant disorder. A thing gets popular, so some posters decide to make hating the popular thing their personality.

The vast majority of posters don’t think about Rolex as much as the Rolex haters in this thread. He’ll, even Rolex owners don’t think about Rolex as much as the Rolex haters.

They’ll always try and cloak it in something self-righteous and noble but mostly they’re just lonely. No one wants to be around someone who’s miserable and bitchy all the time. It’s exhausting.

hahahahaha kike detected. My dear rabbi, I brought up specific aspects of the design and movement I take issue with. Enlighten us with your talmudic takes on the poor accuracy you get for the price point (with an allegedly hand-bent terminal curve), as well as why this THORN >>18666496 has more advanced and beautiful case-finishing lmao

Why? You’re not arguing in good faith. You’re just here to waste everyone’s time.

Panerai is just a really hateable brand. They do a ton of things wrong, more bad than good if we’re being honest; and even when they do well the product is incredibly polarizing, but every now and then they come out with a really good watch.

Hi Bittercel. Still doing the old bare wrists thing?
>>
>>18666531
Based dot dial 233. A coworker of mine wore one. The huge domed sapphire is crazy.
>>
>>18666531
Ref no.? The Panerai GMTs I find on C24 have AM/PM text in the subdial.
I generally dislike Panerai but with the power reserve and GMT hand I think this looks like a great tool watch.
Whats the lug-to-lug distance?
>>
>>18666575
It’s a PAM00233 referred to as the “dot dial” variant since they used that instead of the AM/PM hand. It’s a much cleaner look. They made them in 2006 and 2007 (I and J serial numbers) with the dot dial and then switched to the AM/PM after that.

It’s god a 52mm lug-to-lug so not insane for a 44mm watch but it’s very thick due to the hugely domed crystal. It was designed to be huge.
>>
>>18666585
It's the first Panerai I like in terms of dial design and features (the size is an atrocity though, but I get that's their thing). Thanks for sharing anon, I learned something new today. (I also like manual wind watches).
>>
>>18666531
It's not a bad watch, you just have to be the right kond of guy to wear it. To me Panerai never seemed like a luxiry watch, but more like an expensive but stylish quintessentially Italian fashion accessory.
>>
>>18666593
>you just have to be the right kond of guy to wear it.
This. I think part of their problem was that, at the height of their popularity, too many guys tried wearing them who had no business wearing them. Short guys, small wrists, introverts, and so forth. Panerai started catering to those kinds of buyers.
>>
>>18666597
I know i jave no business wearing divers, I'm too skinny and they're not my style anyway. But i get that and stay in my lane, plenty people don't and it's hilarious to see. Smartwatches were funny as well, most of them was way too big and yet everybody wore them.

50% of posts on /pol/ come from pissraeli IP addresses, it's the last place I want to discuss anything, especially watches.
And in any case, it's not like our dear rabbi has anything constructive to say about modern rolex movements or the degradation of the rolex design language (example: every iteration of the explorer and air king is uglier than the previous one).
pic related is a rolex from 1953. It actually has a dignified design, nice hands, discrete branding, only one logo.
