Cool. I haven't heard anything bad about Watchdives. Chinese get a bad rap when they're perfectly dependable and usually have good build quality at the $50 and up range. Especially for quartz.

So where can you get a Seagull 1963 that's legit that's not a retarded price
>>
>>18669119
Do your research. They're all "legit". You can spend $800 on a Seagull Brand Seagull, or you can get any other 1963. They all have the same great movement anyway. They're all comparable to the super expensive version. Just watch any of the numerous videos about the 1963 and you'll learn all that. I don't know what you consider a retarded price.
You can get them from $100 to $250 from Red Star or one of the other companies. But it's not a trademarked thing that's being ripped off. It's a public domain military design.
Just read the reviews and choose one that no one has issues with. I'm pretty sure none of them are prone to issues.

But "watch enthusiasts" have inexplicably all given them a pass, and even declare that no collection is complete without an F91W or a G-Shock.

It makes no fucking sense at all, yet here we are.
This is the poorfag watch thread and even in here you still have people saying "no, don't get a superior quality Chinese watch with that $200. Get a crappy Orient with acrylic crystal or a digital Casio."

And I will tell you right now this will never change. It's habit. They'll argue all day about it. They'll lean on things like "design language" and "heritage" or "history", but they'll still always be wrong in terms of what you're actually getting for your money with the physical watch on your wrist.
Once you've held in your hands a $160 entry level Seiko and also a $150 "shitter" at the same time, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. You'll notice right off the bat that one is heavy and well made and durable, and the other is flimsy, cheap, and stupid. And then you'll finally get it and have a good laugh. You'll know it's not about the watch at all, it's about the pretense, the fluff, the pageantry.
And it's okay to buy both. I sure have. But I won't bullshit you and tell you to get the brand name watch because I know 99% of people who see it won't know anything I just mentioned anyway. You're the one who wears the watch home at the end of the day. You have to decide what you want.

The free mesh bracelet was unexpected. And I don’t like these stiff leather ones. Almost exactly the same as the Citizen’s. Which is precisely why I got the others. The Seiko 5 should be much better with the $30 jubilee.

Had fun messing around with different straps. The Seiko SNX jubilee installation is beyond my skills though. I think you need a special tool or you actually have to bend the end link things that connect it to the case. I don't want to fuck with it. I haven't been to the jeweler in a couple months because I've been able to do all the little jobs. I've been saving a few tougher things for him to do. I'm going to see what he'd charge to switch a datewheel. And maybe that's something I could try to do if he doesn't do that or it's costly. It's already at almost $200 and it's not a great watch. I totally let the bullshit get to me. So many watch videos where they go on about how great the SNX is. A couple did mention the case shape and thickness, the bracelet quality, and just the cheap feeling of it, but overwhelmingly everyone else was saying "but look at this DIAL", and "it's a Rolex Killer". So fucking stupid. I totally get the appeal for $90 five years ago. But at $160 at the lowest (Jomashop price) and the crystal sucks and the bracelet sucks and the movement fucking sucks, and the crown sucks and the lug size blows.... WTF? The value IS NOT THERE.
Everyone says it improves with a good bracelet, so we'll see. And I think the modding thing is cool so I have options there. But I'll say it again: you just get so, so much more watch for that money out of China. Just depends on what you care about when you get a watch.
>>

I don't blame you. The influence pressure and pushback are strong and everywhere. Especially here they love to try and disparage the "shitters". But there are just too many testimonies and reviews out there to ignore.
Anyone talking shit doesn't have one like you do. They'd change their minds too once they had it on wrist.
Notice you never really see or hear any actual complaints about Chinese watches from anyone who owns them.
Watchdives is one of the brands I haven't tried yet, but I keep seeing new videos about how they have a couple of the best watches for the money out of all of AliExpress. I'm just getting into divers. I'll probably get one during the sale. Still deciding out of the ones in my image.
I still like non-Chinese watches too, but for the most part there's almost always a Chinese version at several levels of cost and quality. One of my favorite things is how you see a popular design that may originally cost thousands, and you can get so many versions of quartz or mechanical, different cases, sizes, shapes. And for the price you can really experience them all. Or test drive for the real thing someday.
For all of the things that suck about the modern world, the whole online shopping, international shipping, and really affordable watches phenomenon is one of the few things that makes me think: "What a time to be alive".

I can't trust the Chinese brands that are all over the place with prices. There's one called Addies, which I'm sure is affiliated with Addiesdive, and sometimes spelled as Aidis, with a very Adidas-like font. And they have shit that's $9, $59, $219. And that's fucked up. This RollTimi does that too.
I want a watch company that has one lane they stay in and focus on a specific area of watches.

So I can get one of these for $68. I've kind of wanted an integrated bracelet watch like this but not the octagonal one with the grid. Nothing that's hundreds of dollars. This one is a good size at 37MM/8.6MM/Lug to Lug 44.5MM.
I'm leaning toward the purple dune one. Or the red. Or the silver. But I like all of these. I think it may not be the real sandy textured dunes like the Addiesdives everyone likes. The dunes on my Polaris are more glossy than I thought they'd be, so I'm kind of also leaning toward the plain dial.

there's like a thousand watches you might like. browse the thread and go through archived threads and look at pictures. when you see something you like, read the post and any reply chains up and down -thread.
when you ask about certain styles broadly (tank, diver, field, dress etc.) or specific models, that's when we can actually advise you .
another unfortunate thing is that your taste can change the longer you follow watches. I know that's true of me. but buying at your price point is a sane approach so you'll be good.

Rolex shouldn't even need China. "Chinesium" is nonsense. It's like what, a fake metal? It's supposed to mean you're not getting quality? What specific brand are you even referring to?
There's nothing wrong with Chinese watches. You're just purposely ignoring the facts. All you'd need to do is buy yourself one watch and you'd know they're good. But you're stupid or you don't have the money, or you just like shitting on Chinese stuff. You don't want to know better. Because then you'd have to admit you were wrong. That's hard for most people to do.
There are absolutely cheap watches from China. But no one here suggests them. You spend $60 - $180 on a Chinese watch you really can't go wrong if you do your research.

Anyone shopping for Rolex isn't even going to be interested in Chinese watches. Different worlds.
Which brings me to the question: Why the fuck do you fucking fake snobs come to the POORFAG Watch Thread to make these lame and tired arguments?

We're here in our OWN thread to discuss these watches. Go to the fancy thread and argue there. This is our turf.

I can't decide which of these I want. And I have different ones in a different browser using a different email for maximum coupon advantages.

Honestly I don't need any more. I love them so much and every new addition to the big happy family is a blessing, but I can't keep up. There are so many that never get wrist time. I spend half an hour every day probably setting and winding all of them, which I do enjoy. But I don't need anymore autos with date complications.
I really don't need more at all. But that's what collecting is. It's far from a compulsion. I've got it under control. I'm getting better at knowing exactly what I want before I buy it. I'm actually rather proud of my restraint lately. I go days in a row without buying watches or browsing them. I'm even trying to spend less time here and consolidate my images when I can, as I know my enthusiasm really pisses some of the community off.

But I hope some people can see that I'm sincere and open and honest and that I just want to share the fun that I'm having. And the disappointments. There are ups and downs. I hope it's not been uninteresting. I'm happy to share firsthand experiences with these as they come in.
I wish I was more into divers. I know more people would be interested if I had different tastes.
I'm sure the whole board would be interested if I had way more money and did this with what they consider "good" watches.
Sorry 'bout that.

Nice! You won't regret it, I promise you. I love my new Proxima. It's my main watch when I go out and do stuff. My dentist saw it last week and said he liked it.
I love the lollipop second hand. I almost got one like yours because I love those square indices and the second hand to match. I'm definitely going to get one eventually. Love those white enamel dials.
Proxima is up there with San Martin and Baltany and Cronos on the top shelf of Chinese watches. No doubt about it.
You'll know the moment you pick that bad boy up that it's a keeper. Really great bracelet, finishing, design. The videos I've seen say the rotating bezels are great too.

But here's the most exciting news I've had in a while. I found this watch in my house that I didn't know I had!
It must've been my dad's and I must've known I had it at some point. But before I became a watch nut I really didn't care about them. And something small like this would've just registered as stupid old jewelry, or a ladies watch. It's an actual manual wind mechanical SWISS watch. Wittnauer. I had to look them up. They're now owned by Citizen. No idea if they still make anything. I'll delve in deeper later.
But it works. I wound and set it and it works like new. The tiniest little small seconds subdial I've seen. And one of those cool crystals with facets cut into it.
I'll post a little video moving it around so you can see.
I've never seen a watch like this really. And the bracelet is really interesting too.
Now that I think of it, I have a little gold watch of my dad's in some of my stuff in a storage unit. I need to get that out.
But this thing is super cool. A real vintage Swiss watch I've had for years and somehow just blocked out of my mind.
I'm going to the jeweler tomorrow to have him do a couple of jobs and I'm going to see what I can find out about this.

There's a good possibility this is a ladies watch. But maybe not. It could go either way. It could be very old. My dad was born in the 30s. But it looks like maybe a 70s watch too. Very interesting bracelet with those black squares. I'm so glad I noticed that. I'm going to break out a magnifying glass and write down all the numbers and stuff and see if I can find out the origin of it.
>>
>>18670892
Id love to know what genre of watch this is.
>>
>>18670948
Me too. I find out tomorrow. The crystal is like 6-7mm thick, as thick as the case. And in some light the scratches don't even register and it looks great. I could just start wearing it. It's the kind of watch I'd be attracted to anyway on eBay. The tiny square subdial is just so fucking awesome. And the numbers have that same classic font I love so much. I can't believe it was just there in the basement, being moved around for years without giving it a second look. And it has smooth winding action and keeps good time. Really made my day.

I hate to spend watch money on bracelets, but I'm almost convinced here.
I couldn't drop $60 for an upgrayedd to the SNX079. I did get that nice one from China for around $30 that's being installed later today.

But I might spend $79 for the one for my Negroni. Just typing that seems fucking insane when I've bought so many sweet watches for that price or less.
Of course the Presage is the most expensive watch I have so it's not the same "polishing a turd" thing as it would otherwise be. And I get it because Cocktail Time doesn't even have a bracelet. It's not like they gave me a shitty one like with the SNX. Still irks me though that I'd still have to install my own sapphire to really make the watch as good as so many of my 'shitters'. I have no idea what that'd cost, but I'm sure it's well over $50 just for the specific crystal not including the labor.

>>
>>18671630
You're right. I was so preoccupied with whether I could, I didn't stop to think if I should. And I shouldn't.
The last thing I want to do is invest more money in it. I wore it out the other day and tapped it on my car window and a sink by accident. It didn't ding or scratch it, but it made me self conscious about every move I was making. I can't imagine having a really expensive watch.
I know I need to just completely forget about keeping the watches pristine forever. Scratches on a watch are an inevitability. In fact, I think I'm going to do some fun goof like tie a couple or three shitters to the back of my car with a cable and drag them around town and see what they look like after. That should be fun. Get some real scratches in there. Hopefully they don't just bounce until the springbars pop off and they end up lost on the streets. I'll find out and I will post pics of it soon.

that's nice! is there a date version? what's the ref?
>>
So. I'm thinking about getting an analogue watch, and these are some of the criteria I've formed after trying to put together my initial preferences:
-Not super expensive, probably up to that $500.
-Quartz, since I don't think I'll be wearing it often enough to bother with mechanical and automatic.
-Leather strap seems the most comfortable and looks elegant enough.
-The face has numbers instead of just lines, can be Roman numerals. Lines alone sound like it'll be more difficult to read quickly with a glance without first confirming the orientation.
-Silent enough that the ticking doesn't bother me. Sweeping second sounds like the thing, but those seem expensive.
-Date complication would be nice, but not like the little electronic screen like on some casios. Those look a bit off.
-Black, gray, brown or dark blue face. Just preference for dark screens and I don't like green.
-A 40-45mm preferably closer to the middle of that. I don't have especially thick wrists. I'm currently using a 46mm smartwatch and that seems slightly larger than I'd like.
I've been looking mostly at jap watches so far like Seiko, Casio and Orient since I've heard they're reliable but I haven't found something I'd like yet.
Anyone got any recommendations?
>>
>>18672464
Let's start with this one for ~ 40 USD:
>>18669229
After 10 years of wearing the same watch and repeatedly smashing it against handrails, doors, walls, office furniture and rocks during mountain climbing, I say it's pretty reliable.
>>
>>18672410
I don't know about a date version. I'm glad it doesn't have one myself. I'm really into that watch this week; been wearing it most days. It's the San Martin SN0139. It's about $155 right now with the anniversary sale. Great watch. It comes with a nice bracelet but I've settled on brown leather for it after trying a lot of different straps. Just right at 39mm.

My Pagani Batman GMT diver pictured above it comes tomorrow and it's 40mm. I won't go over that size. I'll probably be all set on divers too. That one has a date and cyclops.

>>18672377
That's a decent looking Invicta. They get a lot of shit, but I don't think they all suck. It's an automatic and it's pretty cool if you like blue. Speaking of which, what do you mean you got the battery replaced? I'm guessing your pic isn't the exact watch you got.

Here's today's haul. Got a bunch of 18mm straps, couple of 20s, one of those little rubber balls for removing screwdown casebacks, a tool for removing springbars (probably pointless in most cases besides for natos), and who knew, they make Proto Pipe homages too. That one was $15 and looks way better than the $9 piece of shit I got last week.
I don't know why I buy cheapo pipes when I only use glass. Trying to recapture the fun of the turn of the century I guess, when some of my friends were hacky-sack skateboarder types raised by the vegan hippie artist community I grew up near.
>>
>>18672464
You don't need $500 for a quartz. Even if you insist on those specific brands. But if you went automatic, yeah. Japan is a bunch of cheap bastards and until you drop $500 they give you plastic garbage parts.
So you want a 42mm quartz with a non-green but dark dial with numbers or Roman numerals and leather band. Mecha-quartz are not expensive. Oh, I forgot about your preference for Seiko and Orient. I really have no idea. They probably do only have loud clicking, one-tick-per-second movements for under $500.

I cannot help you. The other watch threads will help you spend $500 for a brand name quartz though. I'm only going to suggest better watches for far less money that you won't care about because you heard Japanese brands are reliable.
I'm sure they are reliable.

I barely tolerate divers. I have no other GMTs. 40mm is the max size I will wear.
I got that watch to kind of check a box. It's an amazing deal.
>every time you look at your wrist
LOL, huh? It's not going to be a daily watch by any means.
I guess you haven't been paying attention, but I'm not poor. I wouldn't buy so many watches if I were. Luckily I just naturally have affordable tastes. And this is really perfect timing. Actually about 2-3 years ago would have been better timing, as I'd have been able to amass a collection like I have for maybe $2,000 instead of over $3,500.
And don't even bother telling me what kind of watch or two watches I could have gotten for that money. I'm not interested.
I LOVE my watches. I love the deals. And the quality is undoubtedly there now in so many of the Chinese "shitters" that I buy. It's undeniable. What a time to be alive.

Fashion brand price and looks like a rolex homage. The fluted bezel should be white gold plated as thats how they are traditionally made.

I was considering this when looking at presidential watches but never got it. By the way sweeping second hand is a tough one for quartz and budget watches in general that takes quite a complex mechanism.

Red Star as a brand still holds a bit of mystery. It was established by Thomas Leung, a former watchmaker at Sea-Gull — one of China’s most prominent and historic watch manufacturers. Leveraging his experience and passion, Leung set out to create timepieces that combined traditional Chinese horology with modern appeal. Within a relatively short span, Red Star has risen to prominence in the affordable mechanical watch segment, particularly among collectors who value character, design, and mechanical integrity over brand prestige. Much of this accessibility can be attributed to platforms like AliExpress, which have become go-to destinations for discovering high-quality, unique Chinese watches priced under $300.

Fuck that. This is the exact reason homages exist.
Fuck Seiko for the most part.

>>18673303
You said it. It's insulting. Yet there's 'the allure of the Seiko'.
This was one of the first things I posted here over four months ago when I started buying. Right off the bat I wanted one of the 5s. And I went back and forth with different ones and sent a couple back and somehow ended up back with the same exact one, the SNX079. And it does very much suck. The bracelet is shit, the crystal is shit, the movement is shit, the crown to work everything is shit.
And once you have it up close, it really doesn't even look that great. The dial is slightly warped from the securing points, like it's not totally flat to give you that smooth sunburst effect. It's slight, but it's there. And really what should we expect for $160? They used to all be under $100 for that line, even just a couple of years ago. And when you tap the thing with your fingernail and hear the dull cheap sound, when you feel the flimsiness of it, you know you were taken in by the allure; the countless watch reviewers who lauded these watches. The people here who constantly champion the brand.
So now it's my mission, no matter how much it ends up costing, to make it a cool watch that I'm not embarrassed by. The bracelet has been upgraded so far.
But I'm telling you, it IS built "so fucking shit". If you're a collector, grab one if you want. But I would NEVER recommend a Seiko 5 as anyone's daily watch. There are so, so many better options with all better components for the price. And that's exactly what these threads are for.

I'd hope Rolex are not so bulky. I don't see myself ever really wearing the GMT. It's one of those bracelets that is either a little too loose or too tight. And I don't need a 200 gram watch on my wrist. My 39mm diver is way better if I want something with the bezel action. I'll probably sell it for a loss. Maybe I can get $60 for it. If I got another diver I might go even smaller than 39mm.

So I sold something on eBay and I got my coupon and I have a few days to use it. I have to spend $125 to save $50.
Essentially I'm such a stupid consoomer that I've become an ebay seller just so I could be presented with a time sensitive BILL for $75.

Anyway, I'm considering all serious suggestions. It's going to be very hard not to buy something quickly, but I'm going to wait at least 36 from the time of this post. I guess I could spend more too. How about a $200 limit.
Pitch me interesting watches for $200 or less from ebay. What would you get with that?
If you've seen my collection my taste is kind of all over the place but I like 39mm and under, no digital, probably less enthused about quartz, but that depends.
But post whatever you like too. We need to breathe some life into this thread. I'll post some ones I'm looking at too.

You're right. Thank you. I wasn't really considering it anyway because of that because look how off kilter it is anyway nowhere near changeover time. And the 7 looks cooked too.

This one looks bomb as hell but it's from Pakistan and I'm leery about certain parts of the world. Dial appears original. Bit too "look at me" with the jewels and shit though.
I'm not against *old* Seiko 5s. I'd just never buy another modern one.

And when do you ever see a little window like this? It's almost a porthole a boat would have. Easy release bracelet I see, though it does look good on that bracelet. It's like I keep chasing that Murph. I really don't want the Hamilton, I just want basically my Militado quartz EXACTLY but with a brand name of some kind on it and the exact same dimensions and an automatic or even just handwind movement, but no more than 1mm thicker to accommodate it.
S&H makes one pretty close, so does MiliFortic, but no one gets it perfect. Not even Hamilton. Maybe it's just my destiny to collect a fuckton of watches that remind me of what I like about the Murph. Obviously the font goes back forever, as even my 50s find has it.
But damn does this watch look cool.
The 24 hour subdial is probably going to ruin it for me though. It could have been a small seconds instead; something to balance that date window.
I don't want anymore date windows either.

I'm over this watch. Someone else should get it though. It's a sweet deal even without my coupon. $157

Reduced from over 500.
Its part of his radio room collection. I have to admit i am kind of tempted, i like the quirky nature of it with the orange and the fact its an updated slimmer watch. It has a miyota in it tho, so its not quite fitting for my idea of an independent from swiss or japanese watchmaking idea.

I don't know why there are 55 watch threads and why they're all dead, but I guess I'll try this one. I almost just bought this, but I'm starting to think it's a women's watch. The model number is 84-C1-0455 I guess and it has a 26 mm case width? Is that for girls? I am looking for a slimmer watch, and I put men's/unisex in the filters. I don't know shit about watches. I just have a Casio AQ-230 with the black dial. I've also never shopped from Chrono24 but I guess it's legit? I find it very hard to find a watch that I like aesthetically. I mean the Casio is like a 30mm width while this is 26. Surely I'm not a tranny if I buy this?
>>
>>18673831
>women's watch
Doesn't matter as long as it's not pink and faggy.
Watch companies tag a lot of smaller (36mm is not really small, but whatever) dress watches as "for women", while the aesthetics is pretty much unisex.

Do you know if Movado is a legit brand and how I can determine the circumference or whatever the watch terminology for that is? I found a similar model with the same case size and for that one is says max 7.5 inch wrists. Mine are around 7. I think I'm safe yolo buying this.

The other watch I like is this Seiko Credor, but the leather strap looks quite fucked on it, and it's also more expensive.

>Modivo
No idea.
>circumference
What you should be interested in is "lug to lug width", meaning the actual size of the watch when you put it on your wrist.
For example Casio AQ230 had the case diameter below 30mm while the lug to lug width was about 38mm, which is far from small size.
>>
>>18673854
No I mean low long the straps are and if it will fit on my wrist. If it's a women's watch I guess they don't make them that long. Although fat hoes with cankle wrists exist idk.
>>
>>18673571
that tank is extremely handsome
>>
>>18673857
If the lug to lug width is smaller than width of the top of your wrist, then you're good.
Integrated metal bracelets are in general a risk. It's always hit and miss, no way to tell unless you try it on and experiment a bit with removing and adding links on both sides.
If lug to lug width and lengths of both sides of the bracelet are smaller than the circumference of your wrist, you will have a problem.
>>
>>18673864
Oh I'm tarded. Had to google what lug to lug is. Well on this watch it's 35mm allegedly, but it's a rectangle idk.
>>
>>18673864
As another tard, could I ask for some visual guide as to where exactly measure the top of the wrist? I'm not sure where it's supposed to count to start/end given the curve.

>>
>>18673903
Ah, so it's like a full projection, not until where the wrist starts to curve or something like that.
So at like 5.3cm width and
>>18673906
17cm circumference, what watch size should I aim for?
Wait, what's that about the wrist bone? On the first pic, it's measured below it (and that's how I measured it), on the second it looks like it's measured on top of it.
>>
>>18673896
Take a ruler and measure the flat surface, or at least the mostly flat part of it.
>>
>>18673906
That pic is wrong. The watch is supposed to go above the wrist bone. The wrist bone is supposed to stop it from sliding down.
>>
>>18673911
That seems to be like 4.4cm. I'm not sure if I measured it correctly...
>>
Oh i dont wear mine like that i like it loose.

I would wear it so it doesnt catch on my wrist bone , personally. I dont like trapped moisture. So that second one is measuring the circumference exactly on the wrist bone.

I like shaking my watch around like a bangle too i gues. I wouldn't with a leather strap gold dress watch tho, not on a formal occasion.
>>
>>18673919
It should be something around 45 mm for an average wrist, maybe 50 if you bend the ruler a bit. You could probably wear without problems a watch with 49 mm lug to lug width on a leather strap (integrated bracelets take some extra millimeters above the lug to lug size).
>>
>>18673920
I would argue it's some extravagance, just like putting the watch over a sleeve. Which was a feature of "big" military field watches and pilot watches at the time.
>>
>>18673923
Thanks. I'm still a bit confused about the relation of wrist width to lug to lug here, so I'll try to just keep that 49mm in mind.
>>
>>18673947
49 mm lug to lug is likely the max safe length if you want a big ass watch for an average sized wrist. Anything above it is going to overhang and look odd, see that Vostok posted before.

I just copped. Got raped on shipping costs, but I also don't wanna haggle. Price seems fair to me I guess. I had no idea this is actually an American brand actually. I love the US of A generally, but in terms of watches I feel like getting an Americna watch is negative aura, but oh well. I don't care about brand names either way, as long as the watch looks cool. If I'm being honest the best looking watches I saw with my filters were Gucci and Fendi ones, but I really don't wanna be seen wearing these brands specifically. I think nobody would know about Movado so it's still cool.

I think I'll try and get a cool more standard/classic looking watch with a leather strap and be done with it. Wouldn't want to get into a money wasting watch rabbit hole.

I was thinking about a cheaper Seiko Presage actually. You guys can tell me what you think about those. Only thing that bothers me there is how popular they seem and I insist on being a unique and special snowflake.
