I want to get my first western hat. I am not a huge fan of the traditional cowboy style with the curved up brim. I'm definitely more into the telescope flat brim style

I'm working jeans out of my wardrobe rotation and gearing it more towards something like this. What Leonardo DiCaprio had on in The Quick and the Dead. Textured blazers, button-ups only, slightly open collar for less formal outings.
Black or charcoal trousers and blazers only—never matching unless it’s actually formal and then I'll also add a tie and vest.
I only wear cattleman's crease in my hats too. I don't like the associations with Indiana Jones and fedoras that come with pinched front crowns.

>>
>>18681636
Oh yeah, forgot about those. The bad thing about the 511s is that the rise is a bit on the lower side compared to the 60's cut. But on the plus side, Levis does (or did, not surely if they're currently in production) cotton twill 511s in navy blue. Guess the closest thing you canbget to Eastwood's dollar trilogy pants. With a bit of digging you can find a pair for cheap on secondhand apps.
>>
If you don't mind skipping past the 60's/70's spaghetti western styling and want something a bit more historical inspired you can try for some higher waist trousers.

The canvas ones are thick and tough. you'd need bracers/suspenders. They do have a back drawstring too.

You can rock a fit like this that imo looks pretty decent for the aesthetic.

i'm in Aus, but i'd image the US western brands would have it.

Usually here they are called half button or half placket work shirts. All the country/rural/saddlry workstores would have them here. They got to be tucked in, they're usually quite long.

Agree with you. Love the patterned shirt, the color palette and overall silhouette with the long coat. Pants in boots is more perio accurate. Always thought the way he gets his poncho at the end doesn't make much sense (should have been in a frontier setting) but I guess they needed it for marketing material. Doesn't ruin the movie anyways.

This thread could do with some interior design or spaghetti western landscapes. Almería/Las Tabernas really give that specific vibe and I love how some of the interiors are rustic with this very European, sometimes even Italian tones. Think statues in the church or army hospital

wool is cgeao but isnt stiff and will not last too long, beaver is the best and will last your whole life but its not cheap, best is to go to a place where they make them and have it shaped there for you.

be aware that ,at least for me, some places may be more specialized at making specific cowboy hats than others. they place I went to was more for making 10 gallon hats but they didn't decline making the hat, however the hat templates they had were sized more for 10 gallons and my hat was pretty short so it bulges in the middle a little rather than being straight but it still turned out great and I love it. but be sure to research all the places that make them before you get one.

Fellas, I've been thrifting and scouring secondhand apps and found a pair that fits closely to that style.
The Levis 615 orange tab. It fits tight at the waist (it's somewhat angled in) with a mid to high rise with the back pockets firmly in yhe butt rather than mid-thigh.
The leg is straight, fitted with a minimal tapering that gives it that tailored look quite close to that 60's slim look.
Word of advice, though, these vintage Levis size smaller than the current production and in many cases have been washed so much they shrank even further. So ask for meassurements and maybe go up one size.
>>
>>18679724
The obvious answer is wrangler cowboy cut jeans, probably slim fit
>>
>>18684152
my biggest issue with Wrangler is I just don't like the back pockets. I don't like the "W" stitching or the leather patch in the middle of the pocket
>>
>>18684158

>>
>>18684166

>>
>>18684168
Yeah, that's why lots of folks get rid of it. It is actually very easy to remove and in a couple of washes you can't tell it was there.

There's a higher-end bluebell version with a leathet patch, but it costs about double.

I'd avoid these really cheap hats. If you want my honest recommendation look on marketplace for old cheap beaver hats and just go pay to get them cleaned and reshaped by a hat shop. As long as its actually in your size range the money you'll spend on getting it reworked will be pale in comparison to going full custom or paying for something off the shelf.

>>
>>18685162
Straw hats with lots of ventilation holes and 100% linen or lightweight cotton western snap button ups in light colors that will reflect sunlight not absorb it like black would. I would suggest linen pants as well but they don't really make those in a boot cut unless custom. So you're going to have to tough it out with light wash jeans. Your days of wearing shorts are over. Don't EVER wear shorts with boots unless you want to look like a retard. You're also going to have to bite the bullet about footwear because fucking sketchers doesn't make mesh cowboy boots. You're stuck with leather.

AFAIK it was purposedly designed for the film. Maybe based on a field jacket (which were popular around the time the film was made) but giving it some details and stuff that resembled the coats people wore around the time period the film is set in.
I've never seen a jacket like that in any pictures of the era.
I guess you coukd always get a surpluss field jacket or a repro of a WWII type field jacket and modify it to look like Clint's.

Historically they would've worn chore coats, frock coats or perhaps morning coats.

Those boots have got to go. Replace then worth cowboy boots or ropers

I’ve got a pair of harness boots and some snakeskin cowboy boots that I could maybe make work, the pants taper and may not fit over either pair.

I’ll commit to the bit, but I don’t live in a southern state so tucking pants into boots will be a hard sell

How I'm tryna be
I'm committing to a more western style of dress but goddamn it's hot and wearing denim shirts in the winter is hard to commit to

A southern rebel bushwhacker would have been dressed more or less like picrel. Mens fashion in the frontier was outlandishly cool.

Bloody Bill's story is wild. Went down the rabbit hole reading about him

meant summer obviously

Aye, one of those people who sound more like a literary character than a real person. Wonder if the wild west forged psychopats or just attracted them. His story is like straight out of Blood Meridian.
I'm kind of fascinated by bushwacker's fashion.

To be fair it was war, and he was using guerilla tactics. People forget that fact. They focus on the acts and not the context of them

Just bought these Ariat bankrolls, hope they are ok. Was thinking about the heritage r toe in suede but they were not available in canada for a price i wanted to pay. I really want the ralph lauren suede cowboy boots but not for 2K. These have a tan (ish) roughout so i thought it was a good compromise for now. Will assume the position when they arrive.

never buy designer footwear let alone fucking polo cowboy boots lol. i think you bought chink boots mate. all of these companies outsource them from leon mexican manufacturers. 2bh id just search them on youtube, legit ones show you their facilities and how they make them.

leon actually makes some of the best cowboots in the market today. chisos and unmarked are some of the only brands doing things in all leather with wooden begs and channel stitching

He was also in Zorro which technically is a spaghetti western. Zorro is an Italian/ French movie western while Red Sun is a Hollywood movie from his brief American phase in the early 70s before he returned to France.
