You’ve posted this many times already. What exactly is the point you’re trying to make? That Rolex is somehow bad because some boomer posted some boomer shit on a boomer website? I need a little more context.
>>
>want Aqua Terra or Datejust to serve as an everyday "gada" watch
>Would be my most expensive watch so would probably baby it or hardly wear it, every ding would sting
>Already have a dress watch so that purpose doesn't work either
anyone else in a similar situation? Starting to think buying multiple "fun/personality" watches actually makes more sense
>>
>>18680329
I don't believe in expensive watches. I have a $450 watch and I'm super afraid of ding sting so I don't wear it all that much. I have multiple fun watches and loads of straps. Not afraid to wear any of them. In fact, it's way more fun than just having one watch. What kind of hobby is that? Spend over $100 and it's probably going to be a great watch. And you could have 50 for the price of a starter Rolex.
Plenty of people don't believe in that. But that's the difference between "enthusiasts" and collectors. The people advocating for saving and waiting and finally investing in some luxury watch, well, they don't have many watches. MAYBE a handful. They follow the news, admire the macro videos and have a huge list of their "grails". Five figure watches. But you can only experience so much joy that way. Sure, you get a different kind of joy with the one super expensive watch. "I earned this. This projects success." All that shit. But it's still just one watch. And you see how that goes around here. Those guys either post that one watch with their coffee or they post tons of snobby comments with no pics because they don't want to overpost their one fancy watch.

Buying multiple fun watches makes more sense for me. Others believe in having one really expensive and well-respected by certain communities watch.
The choice is yours. You really have the money to do both if you're considering a Rolex though. And there are people who do. And they report wearing the Rolex far less than the fun ones for the reasons you stated.
>>
>>18680329
I’m in a similar situation, though not exactly the same.
I simply don’t wear sports watches anymore and haven’t really for years. Usually I’m wearing a Garmin. When I wear a watch, it’s likely to be a dress watch. Those are the watches I like best anyway. So my collection has gradually evolved to basically be nothing but dress watches.

(As an added bonus, because dress watches are unpopular, their prices are much lower for higher quality pieces.)

But yeah, buy/wear the watches that fit your lifestyle instead of putting together a box-checking collection that someone else told you that you “need”.

Where's the male nurse who wanted the Resident Evil watch so bad he was gonna pay $4K for it?

He could get these DragonballZ Swatches instead. I love it when a manchild spends his hard earned cash on what ten-year-old him would get.
>>
>>18680333
it's really just hard to justify it.
I think if i was looking at one watch to wear for 20 years or more it would make sense and would be an easy/quick decision, but the fact I could buy 3-7 other watches i'm very interested in (depending on which i choose) for the same price makes it feel not worth it (at least at the moment).
I also dont believe the rolex or at would halt my interests for other watches, or at least not at the moment. Yes some people could buy 3 rolexes and look at it the same as me buying 3 longines or Oris/Breitling/Tag etc so i'm not hating but now that I can comfortably buy one and not look back im already having second thoughts
>>
>>18680346
The other way to look at it is to realize that watches are not likely to be a lifelong passion. Eventually you’ll get tired of it and move onto something else. You’ll have one watch that you thrown every day without thinking.
In that instance, would you not want something like a Rolex? Durable, accurate, timeless, and not so rare that they can’t be serviced by nearly anyone.

Most of the Rolex owners I know don’t care about watches (that’s normal for a watch company the size of Rolex) and just wear their Datejust or whatever constantly. With a suit, with a t-shirt, on vacation, while golfing, etc.
>>
>>18680350
in that instance it'd likely just be an explorer if im being honest
>>
any watch box recommendations? is wood or leather outer material better? I just want something for 12 or so watches, because they are currently in a cardboard box and it looks stupid. budget $500 max if it's a good box

Why? What's the worst that could happen? You pretty much can't wear the value out of a Rolex or Omega. They offer 10 years of warranty for a reason, they are tried and tested ''tools'' that never (fully) lose their value. Check chrono24 for the cheapest used Datejust from 2010 or later; even the boring and scratched up ones are always upwards of 5-6k.
And so what if it's scratched up a bit? Do you need a pristine watch for your instagram account? Anything can be polished if it's upsetting you that much.
You can only really wear one watch at a time so why bother with a drawer full of colorful watches that you still end up never wearing?

Maybe think about it this way:
If you can only comfortably afford one nice watch you might as well make it a Rolex. As soon as you get bored of it you go back to your AD and trade it in/up for the next one or sell it privately for the same money that you bought it for.
For Omega the second hand market is a bit softer so ymmv.

What youre both saying does make sense, though would my interest or desire for other watches diminish if i get the "grail" AT or datejust?
There's still other watches i'm very interested in (oris cotton candy for vacation, carrera astronomer, glasshute original sixties chronos, etc) as well as some funky and unique microbrands with cool dials.
I guess the decision comes down to right now would i prefer one watch or a few. Something to think about for a while before making the impulsive decision

>would my interest or desire for other watches diminish if i get the "grail" ?
once i got my grail pieces, i stopped caring about the stepping-stone pieces that i told myself i'd get later. i knew i'd never wear them, and i don't want box queens. now my collection is G-shocks, Seikos and swiss masterpieces, nothing in between.
>oris cotton candy for vacation, carrera astronomer, glasshute original sixties chronos, etc
damn dude those are some exotic pieces, didn't know we had a gentleman in this thread
>>
>>18680314
It's not even just boomer shit, it's literally true and it's the exact reason Rolex only very recently started bothering with movement finishing and exhibition case backs on very particular models. As nice as finishing and space age material and cutting edge engineering feats are, a movement really only has to do exactly one thing and that's run reliably. And rolex movements do that very well. As long as a movement is running correctly, under a solid case back you'd never know the difference between a rolex movement or an ETA movement. And solid case backs with nice brushed finishes are more comfortable against the skin anyway, so that's what they do.
>>
>>18680441
>damn dude those are some exotic pieces, didn't know we had a gentleman in this thread
Can't tell if youre being sarcastic or not but either way they're just some pieces ive been eyeing for a bit that i feel i'd still want whether or not i bought the datejust or at

I have 2 entry luxury watches (Rolex and IWC), one premium watch (Hamilton), and shitters i don't wear anymore (casio, seiko 5, festina).

I wear my three watches equally and i don't "baby" them because i don't intend to sell them ever.
But i did think about them A LOT before buying them, i had spreadsheets about every metric possible about those watches.

Buying 30 shitters, or "fun watches" as you say, makes ZERO sense for me, especially if they are quartzs (as you have to change the battery for each).
When i see those collections, it's junk to me. Most of the people doing this are addicted to the addrenaline of CONSOOMING.

Nobody can tell how you're gonna react to a nice watch. Many people lose interest in the 'hobby' for a few years because they've acquired their exit-watch and realize they don't need to look past their own Datejust.
Some others feels like they only kick started their obsession and aim at a Patek next.

I don't want ANY fucking expensive watches. What's wrong with you? It's like you don't comprehend anything but your own brainwashed path. Or maybe it just doesn't fit with your roleplay character who posts the things you post. You must exude a constant attitude. And that attitude assumes that people are just like your character; that they can buy all the Rolexes they want, and they do want them. Because everyone aspires to Rolex ownership, right? They're well known as simply the best in horology.

Let's buy five, let's buy six. Let's buy a dozen and pretend they're doughnuts.

I KNEW that word would be in the response. Because the world is really that simple to you. Anyone who isn't poor would want many Rolexes. Duh!

This is why you don't have real life friends. You can buy an "impressive" watch, but you can't buy people to hang around with you. You should come onto 4chan and lord it over everyone that you invested in overpriced watches. We're all so very envious of everything you are and your superior opinions.

You are purposely not paying attention, troll. Anyone posting that frog is not a classy watch enthusiast.
You can't afford them either. And if you could, you probably wouldn't waste ten grand on a fucking watch.
This board is filled with multiple 3rd world baiting shitposters and like one trust fund retard acting like a prick.
Obviously it's going to be assholes all around, but most of you just bitch about everything and strangely shill for watches you'll never even touch. I don't get it.
Like I said, I have a $400 watch and it makes me nervous to wear. That doesn't make me poor. My priorities are family and the future.

Putting all of your money into ONE watch seems foolhardy and boring. As a lover of watches I'd rather have many to enjoy. You can call them 'shitters' if you like. But I'm not worried about any of them like I'd be with a watch worth more than my car.

I am aware you don't even have watches, let alone the Rolexes you are childishly pushing. But I like getting my views out there anyway for people who are somehow "torn" between the one expensive watch path and the many inexpensive watches path.
I practice what I preach, unlike you and the incel frog brigade, cheerleading for watches you don't even have. Are you fighting on behalf of rich snobs in case you someday become one? I really wish I understood you, 'fren'.

Agreed 100%. Buying a bunch of cheap shitters instead of a select few nice pieces to me is like going to McDonald's every day instead of having a nice meal at a decent restaurant once a week.

Because its about the dopamine addiction from buying shit, people like that would rather have mountains of garbage than a small amount of nice things. A lot of the women I've dated in the past were like that, they buy mountains of cheap mall clothes and perfumes, and have closets full of outfits they never wear, when they could have spent the same money on a wardrobe maybe 1/4 the size of high quality garments and maybe a couple nice quality perfumes instead of dozens of cheap ones.
