I’ve had a couple people recommend Chelsea boots to me as footwear. Would wear them with jeans or chinos. Trying to be more fashionable but don’t want a “metrosexual” look per se.
>>
>>18680872
just get cowboy boots
>>
>>18680872
There's no consensus, but it definitely isn't doing your image any favors in terms of masculinity, it is neutral at best. I do personally believe they are somewhat effeminate and you wouldn't catch me dead wearing them. You can work with no laces, cowboy boots don't have them after all, but combined with the sleek look and that dumb prominent fucking elastic patch, it just screams female sensibilities to me. If you're manly in all other aspects, you can get away with it. If you're a söyfaced dyel with twig legs like your pic that already looks like a faggot, it will just make you look like even more of a fag.
>Trying to be more fashionable but don’t want a “metrosexual” look per se.
I'm a fan of suede myself. Sleek and smooth is fine if laces are there to give it the much needed visual interruption.
>>
imo they only work with slim or skinny pants, but I think that of all boots
>>
>>18680892
I basically had the same reaction. My friends gf recommended them, sent me attached pic. I do not have twink body, weigh 215 lbs, played football and used to bodybuild. I always thought they were kinda gay. Thanks for confirming my instinct.
>>
>>18680890
> just get cowboy boots
I thought about that but always thought they made you look like a poser if you don’t work in agriculture. Idk, might just get a nice pair of brown Oxford shoes and call it a day.
>>
>>18680872
Do yourself a favor and buy any other style. You'll thank me when the fast-fashion Chelsea trend has inevitably runs its course, which won't be long now.

They're great, convenient to get in and out of, comfortable, simple yet elegant. Don't distract from an outfit but aren't understated either.

You have to get expensive ones. Zara-tier Chelseas look metrosexual, they merely have the idea of a shape. You want a crafted silhouette and leather that is visibly high quality. Suede is nice but waxed flesh is less outplayed with chelseas. Don't wear them with skinny jeans or even just some that are too slim or tapered. Normal straight or wide. Slacks, cords.

There's also chelseas with a squared toe box.
>>
Literally all I wear all winter is blundstones.

Actually don't get cowboy boots you couldn't pull them off (no confidence)

I just don’t like the way they look, and I don’t really see the point to be honest. You don’t need that little elastic part. Pull-on boots that are leather look much better.

>>
>>18680943
Ropers have a large opening limiting what pants you can have, and I personally find almost all laced boots not only ugly but extremely impractical too.
>>
>>18680946

Yeah you’re gay and so are your chelseas
>>
>>18680957
I mog you both in terms of being masculine and also in terms of looking good. You can post an outfit wearing your cool boots to prove me wrong, but we both know you won't.

Just wear cowboy boots
>>
>>18680872
They're fine. The people who hate them carte blanche are usually reactionaries to the heyday of YSL and skinny jeans taking over followed by the incredibly shitty trend of tan suede chelseas, stonewash skinny jeans, and tan department store coats that followed. If you're going to wear them with jeans and chinos you shouldn't get a super sleek boot. Even if you're still wearing skinny jeans for some reason, a more rounded toe just looks better. lugged or a more flat sole just depends on how casual you want to be with them.

My black suede chelseas are in the top three of my most complimented pieces, though I typically dress sharp so they go well with the look.
>I don't want to look metrosexual
If you're this doubtful about anything it's unlikely you'll feel good in it.
>>18680930
>crafted silhouette
What does this mean in practice?
>you want something visibly high quality
By and large people are unable to tell the quality of leather, and as far as my experience goes there's no correlation between quality and people's opinions of my clothes.
>don't wear them with pants that are too slim or tapered
>don't do what made Tom Ford THE sex fashion brand
I respectfully disagree, it's dated but it works very well.

Chelsea boots are the most metrosexual shoe of all time. Literally millennial hipster tier. The classic hipster template with the receeding hair big glasses ugly beanie v neck t-shirt short sleeve slim fit jacket low rise slim fit jeans and dogshitass chelsea boots.

Absolutely the worst shoe of all time.

You have no fucking idea what you're doing with footwear. You need to learn the basics before you make a mistake. The benefit of learning is you'll have more confidence to just wear what you like when you understand basic fashion/formality.

every single one of those pictures with chelseas would be improved if they just wore cowboy boots. The elastic or whatever is horrible. It kills looks. Its childish.

Cowboy boots require heavily stacking jeans otherwise you end up looking like this.
It's extremely limiting.

>What does this mean in practice?
Pretty much what it says. Instead of having some fast fashion chain trash that essentially looks like a fancier slipper, get something that is built on an intricate last and has sightly shapes to it. That shows in the silhouette of a chelsea to even at a glance and distance distinguish it immediately from run-of-the-mill ones that your average H&M frequenter would wear.

>people are unable to tell the quality of leather
There are traits of high quality leather that are immediately obvious, such as its texture, colour and shine, how it wrinkles and creases.

>no correlation between quality and people's opinions of my clothes
Quality in this case means more expensive leather, a well-constructed shape and sole and finish. Those things make the boot look different, of course that will change what people make of them.

>it's dated but it works very well
It can but in this case I'm trying to give OP tips to not appear "metrosexual" or otherwise "effeminate" while wearing classic chelseas (there's "rugged" ones too like the blundstones, but in that case I'd rather go with regular laced boots, they are more suited for working and look the part).
I do generally prefer the look of wider pants as contrast to the sleek and slender design of chelseas. But slim straight works for me as well.

Personally the primary reason that I have a handful of pairs of chelseas however is just that they are incredibly comfortable and convenient, and they dress up and down very effortlessly. I've never really thought about them appearing feminine either, not on me anyway. And I like that they look vaguely anatomical or animalic, like they could be feet, but without actually going all avant garde split toe and whathaveyou.

and the ones with two pull tags, front and back? Just hideous. They look like they are for kids playing with their tonka trucks. The lack of detailing is something I also disklike. Throw a cap toe on or something. They look like rain shoes, I can't see them as fashionable. You can get some motorcycle boots from dior or something if you want an acceptable metrosexual look.

Theres an old term “dealer boots” some brands still use where they have a rounder toe and less sleek look. Some of those are just a derby high basically.

Literally. I could never respect a dude in chelseas. I see you on the street and I just know you're a bitch. You try and talk to me about whatever and I'll just immediately dismiss anything you say. Just can't take people like that seriously. Like saying you're bi or some goofy shit like that.

Pretty standard menswear. RM Williams are from my country and they're worn by farmers, doctors and management, so they're kind of the every mans shoe here. Very versatile and comfortable since most people have them for years and just get them resoled. I'm still on the original sole for mine after about 6 years and wearing them almost daily to work (off and on in winter though).
>>
In what world does this look good?
Just get a pull on boot if you don't want laces. Gusset + short shaft is simple abhorrent, I don't care how many mutts have adopted the look
>>
>>18680872
There’s different kinds of chelsea boots, something like a Blundstone 500 has a very round toe and a rubber sole when at the other end of the spectrum you have the YSL Wyatt boot with a tall heel and a very pointy toe.
>>
>>18681266
>4chan is full of contrarians who have no real ideas or convictions
Chelsea boots aren't my cup of tea as I don't really like the look of the elastics, but I absolutely agree with that statement; this site constantly attracts people that simply take the opposite stance of whatever is popular (especially if on Reddit) without any critical thinking involved.

>pretty much what it says
It doesn't say anything, that's why I asked.
>I mean its shape has to be intricate for it to look good and rugged
Plenty of simple and neat chelseas look good, pic related used to be a staple.
As far as ruggedness goes, do you think the picture you posted looks rugged?
To me that feels as dressed up as jeans can get, the boots are still nicely shiny and without any visible crease, they're worn inside...
I think there's a limit to how rugged chelseas can get, because of both cultural associations (they used to be very popular with hipsters and new yorkers 5 to 15 years ago) and shape (simple and clean, as opposed to work boots, thicker leather, laces, ...).
