The Fragrance Groups 101 Chart
The Fragrance Flowchart for Beginners
im still very serious about this, what would he wear?
>>18683997the answer is still Aventus
>>18683998why
>>18683999as good as it is, it's the most npc frag these days, so it fits.(Bleu de Chanel could be an alternative)>digits witnessed
>>18684009i have allure homme sport by chanel and i like it a lot, i dont want another chanel
>>18684009Isn't he a serial killer? Then Bleu de Chanel is a better fit.
>>18683992No one ever talks about eau de rhubarbe for some reason, even though it's a cool and well executed realistic rhubarb fragrance. Not a common note. Totally unisex too.
>>18684032>for some reasonit's not a trendy frag and it's pretty expensive for a cologne (can be had for waaay less at discounters) but i wear it now and i like it a lot
>>18684032Not a fan of rhubarb, and I don't think a lot of people are given how few frags I see that are discussed here containing it, or are decently respected and it's the centerpiece of the frag.
I blind bought Le Beau Le ParfumI love coconut and tonka and wanted a summery spin on Le Male Elixir so I'm guessing I'll like it
>Label created>Eight days agoCome on, man. Between this and my order from EP sitting in Illinois for five days now, I am starting to lose it.
>>18684042>a summery spin on Le Male ElixirThe only connection is they're both made by the same company, you are literally retarded.
to the Montblanc anon, I actually tried it again today. last time it seemed a bit boring to me.I guess I was just noseblind, there is something fruity in there that rounds it out so well. I might just buy a bottle>>18683815>>18683827drake and taylor swift are popular.
Blind bought Club de Nuit Intense Man after drinking half a bottle of wine. I knew my skepticism was right because this is a weird frag for me, the tacky flashy bottle was my warning but I still fell for it. The citric opening smells like old lemons, like lemons going bad with a hint of pinneapple, and the drydown doesn't seem smoky and woody enough for me compared to frags like L'Eau D'Issey. Luckily enough, my zoomie cousin was interested in it, so I had him try it and he enjoyed it a lot, gave it to him as a gift.>>18684042Wouldn't Le Male EDT be more of a summer spin on Le Male Elixir? Anyways you'll probably enjoy it as the whole JPG lineup is pretty high quality, but Le Beau Paradise Garden is too sweet fuck that frag I hate it>>18684061It does make sense since do have the same base generally, the tonka creates some resemblance between them all but anon choose poorly>SOTD Black AfganoHoly kino this frag is incredible. I got a decant because I thought it was a meme, it's mysterious and dark, suitable for cold but very easy to pull off in the heat. There's nothing hostile about it for me, it's inviting in it's complexity. Would get a dupe before buying the original though.
davidoff cool elixir safran mineral
>>18684061They're both very sweet with a strong ambery tonka base, you're wrong>>18684080>Le Male EDTBecause of the lavender and mint? I guess you're right but I meant summery in that LBLP is tropicalI should get Le Male though, it's a good frag>Paradise GardenIt reminds me of Bisch's Kenzo line, that aquatic fig scent profile
Should fragrances be about self expression or smelling good/attractive? For example I love patchouli-incense notes but they aren’t very mass appealing
Beaufort LondonBortnikoffFrancesca BianchiNasomattoPinewardWhat should I try from these brands?
>>18683997Dior homme 2020 is the only and best answer. Its formal, elegant, clean and psychopathic
>>18684093If I had to choose one as universal rule it should be mass appealing. Nothing worse than smelling something vile and disgusting on a stranger while you are just trying to go about your day.I'm all for unique and interesting fragrances but I believe the ultimate goal of a fragrance is to be worn on skin and to be enjoyed by yourself and others. If you want a extreme scent experience to enjoy sitting at home while you explore each nuance of the scent and the intention of the perfumer knock yourself out. A sensible person understands others around them wouldn't want those "olfactory experiences" imposed on them.I have both, I have some mass appealing scents I can spray liberally with the understanding that that average person will not be offended. I also have some stuff that is more polarizing that I wear subtly so only I and those too close can experience. Finally I have some stuff I rather enjoy while home alone.
tried dior sauvage for the first time todayinitial impression: something natural/animalic + a fresh soap1h later: theres a bite about this, a sort of sharpness or sourness (?). this actually kinda makes me horny.anyone else ever had that experience? im very impressed by dior so far, best designer maybe?
>>18684120For a brief period of time when Demachy had full creative control (Leather Oud, Cuir Cannage) they were the greatest. Unfortunately while Sauvage is good its success led to discontinuations, reformulations, and expansion that led them astray. Now with Kurkdjian at the helm there is very little left that is worthwhile. Dior has always been the most experimental of the designers, it had to be since that is their only competitive edge. That leads to a lot of flops but also great heights. Dior gets a bit of undue hate because liking one designer means you have to hate on others to prove your loyalty.
>>18684041I can't even name another rhubarb centric fragrance. Which is what makes this kind of interesting. It really does smell like rhubarb too.
>NOT SHOWN, THE TWO OTHERS ALSO AWAITING SHIPMENT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>18684113I see, I see. I try and wear goth mostly but because I’m a man I end up going safe just all black boots/jeans/shirt which is honestly too minimalist compared to my music taste, I think wearing dior poison and tom ford black orchid, various patchouli/rose incense type attar oils is way too niche and off putting but I like it and it’s “me”. Meanwhile I can wear a safe fragrance like dior homme parfum or azzaro most wanted edp and get hit on by normie women but it feels fake. Doubling down on your own goth look doesn’t get you girls who are into the same thing and not even girls in general.
>>18684137Series 3 might be your thing then if you haven't tried them. Church incense, effectively. You want the Catholic and Orthodox ones specifically.
What are some bloomer/hopecore fragrances?
>>18684113I am with this Anon. Go for mass appeal but try weird shit. What convinced me and was part of my PdE kick that another Anon got me on was pic related. It is not friendly to anyone in the world except maybe horse girls. This is a horse and a stable in a bottle, which is the reason why it has such a low score. Technically? It's amazing in terms of skill on display. But as a product you'd want to wear? Are you fuckin' high? Thus it will forever sit as a sample in my collection.
How does this smell like?
>>18684149Fucking incredible is what it smells like. I have to stop myself every day from wearing it.
>>18684151Yeah but like what does it smell like? What's the vibe? What kind of a character would wear this?
both montblanc explorer and dior sauvage become skinscents after like 3 hours :(that sucks.
>>18684092>They're both very sweet with a strong ambery tonka base, you're wrongBy which you mean you read that tonka is a note on fagnautistica and you have tried 3 perfumes in your life so anything "sweet" smells anything else "sweet" to you.Honestly I'm not surprised given how retarded people on here routinely are.
>>18684153Smokey, but as smokey as say, Black Afgano. The ingredients mix together to make a heady scent that is a combination of spice, and wood, and leather. It almost becomes sweet, but not quite. It's for someone refined. You don't wear this and a graphic t. This is working professional, dressing to impress sort of thing. Whatever that might qualify as in your world. It's masculine. It's smells of money. It's strong, but not off-putting. That's why they peg the MSRP at $550, but you can get it for considerably less from known, safe third parties. I've seen Lugxery sell it bottles of it in the high $300's before. Do your research if you're going to buy from a third party because Amouage has so many people selling fakes. Don't even trust the accounts on eBay with hundreds or thousands of reviews unless they're one who has been around forever. I mentioned Lug because he is a long-time trader/seller who has a few bottles of this or that rotate in and out of his store. I bought a bottle of Lyric off him once. He doesn't have any at the moment though.
>>18684137Portrait of a Lady is a patchouli/rose/incense and one of my most complimented fragrances. Others actually like it more than I like it myself. I'm always surprised by what people end up complimenting. Shit like Kouros got me compliments, as long as you don't overdo it people can enjoy polarizing fragrances.
>>18684162not as*
>>18684162Is it a "blue" scent or it's just called blue because of the bottle color?
>>18684137>goth fragsI would say Dior Homme Parfum is pretty goth as far as designer frags go.You could also try Encre Noire a l'Extreme.>Poison and Black Orchid are too niche and off puttingThey're both fairly popular and appealing frags.>>18684149Like a muted, thicker Interlude give or take, dried/charred oregano, bitter cinnamon, thick and somewhat acrid smoke, a bit of frankincense and other assorted resins, and a thick, ambery base like many other Amouage frags.I find it smokier than Black Afgano, and Interlude Black Iris is more interesting if you ask me.The vibe's pretty serious and noticeable, someone who takes themself too seriously and wears dark clothes and wants to know they're into frags would wear it.
>>18684172Nope, not even close. It's just the bottle.
>>18684177And then there is this guy. There's always the Black Iris is better dudes out there, just like there's Cherry Coke lovers. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just noticed there's basically two groups of people "53 is better than Interlude, but it's fucking expensive" and "I like Black Iris more than either." Either way, I think he should definitely sample both. It can't hurt. That said, I do disagree on the Black Afgano not being smokier remark. One of us wrong or my bottle of Black Afgano is suspiciously smokey because, damn, was I surprised by just how smokey it is and stays as long as you can smell it.
What are some of the most autistic but in the best way possible fumes out there? Something transcendental and special?
>>18684130so far I think they are by far still the leading designer. this is based on trying some of their bigger ones. DHS, DHI, Sauvage.also, Eau Sauvage seems to be a bit of an oddball. I have not seen a single store have these yet and on ebay I can just find very few offerings, all brand new from retailers.
>>18684094>Beaufort LondonTonnerre, Iron Duke, Terror & Magnificence, Fathom V, Vi Et Armis>BortnikoffMoss Cologne, Musk Cologne, Siberia>Francesca BianchiEtruscan Water, Black Knight, Dark Side >NasomattoSilver Musk, Black Afghano, Duro>PinewardLiterally all of them
>tfw fell for the pde meme
>>18684201If he didn't want his son to be a femboy, he shouldn't have let him cap out at a whopping 5'2". He never stood a chance.
>>18684141Diptyque scratches that itch for meEspecially vetyverio and philosykos
>>186842035'2 is literal midget tier and that guy looks at least 5'5
>>18684160t. fougère enjoyer
>>18684120>>18684130Dior and Hermes are the best of the big designers nowadays I thinkChanel only releases extremely boring stuff in their mainline and their private line is extremely expensive
>>18684205My femboy bf is 5'4". Unless Dad there is in the solid 6 foot somethings, his son is small as shit. I say this as someone who has a brother that married a chick that's 5'2" and looks to be approximately the same height if that guy is as tall as me. Since he's not scraping the door frame, I am assuming we're at least in the same range of height.
Sotd Kenzo Homme edt(1991, new bottle)
>>18684201This is "coomer mutt" aka the trooned out wog from australia fyi.
>>18684145i might have been that another anon and yes, i would wear this a lot (were it not so expensive)>>18684192>most autistic but in the best way possible fumesL'Iris de Fath Parfumartisan stuff from Sultan Pasha/AbdesSalaam Attar/etc.any small batch oud/musk frag>>18684201yeah, don't buy PdE, they are overrated and smell like shit (def not buy it at discounters, they are no good fr no cap)>>18684212>hermesyes>diorno>guerlainthe classics are good>chanelboring
>>18684252>dior >noermm akshully you are wrong
>>18684258post good mainline dior frags from the last five yearsi might be wrong but imo kurkdjian created no value for them
>>18684260elixir
>>18684260its less about new inventions and mroe about the fact that no other designer managed to beat their currently existing lineup.
>Ultra Male EDT gets discontinued>local perfumery is selling 125ml bottles at a pretty decent price>but it's also selling AFNAN 9pm at a reduced price tooI'm actually conflicted bros. Should I get the OG or the clone?
>>186842679pm because jpg bottles are gae
>>18684263shit, it was released in 2021yes, it's good>>18684265imo hermes is way better (both heritage and current frags)eau sauvage, fahrenheit, dh(o) and dhp getting neutered sends dior automatically to the back of the list(ymmv ofc)
>>18684105can someone back up this one? is it good
>>18684091is this good, need to know before buying
>>18684274dior homme or even dior homme sport are great, yes. they just dont perform superbly
>>18684252If so, I thank you. My Immortelle Corse showed up today, coincidentally.
imagine not just wearing quorum you guys are so gay
>>18684260>post good mainline dior frags from the last five yearsNow do this for every other major designer.
>>18684296Is it similar to Paco Rabanne Pour Homme? I liked that but not 30 euro liked it. I think quorum is even cheaper.
>>18684298hermes>H24+both flankers (all great)>Eau de Basilic Pourpre (fucking awesome)>Un Jardin à Cythère (polarizing but i love it)dior>Sauvage Elixirguerlain>Habit Rouge Spirit (is this mainline? i tested in a dept store so probably yes)>Mitsouko EDT (i have the '21 version but yeah, it's a stretch)chanel>Bleu de Chanel L'Exclusif (debatable)
>>18684134off the top of my head, Pony Boy, Riveselium (although not listed), Nudiflorum, Encelade and Cockatiel have a lot of rhubarb in their opening. i'll agree it's uncommon, but tbqh it's not a note that really works for me
if you were forced to choose would you rather pick montblanc explorer or dior sauvage edp
>>18684342both okay but kinda generic i would choose Explorer based on personal preference
>>18684342me personally i'd go with Sauvage. smells perfectly fine and lasts a while. can't really go wrong with it
>>18684192bump
>>18684355>>18684351i made up my mind. explorer smells great but its gone after 3 hours, fuck that.sauvage is not much better.ill get a small decant of Sauvage and see how far Allure Homme carries me this summer.
Scents that you didn't think much of initially but blew your mind when you caught a random whiff in the wind? I feel like I haven't really experienced a fume until this happens.
>>18684370Um, all of them? That's how fragrance works. Your nose forgets the scent then when you pick it up again you're either happy or disappointed.
Thanks whoever recommended Caron Pour un Homme. Bit more vanilla than I'd wanted but it's good.
>>18684381you're welcome
>>18684061>the only connection of elixir and le beau is the company that makes themHonestly, a fascinating thing to read. To me, all jpg scents smell extremely similar. I assumed these perfume makers are starting with a base formulae and then tweaking it depending on their goal, especially with these designer houses where everything is just branding. That’s why you hear people say “yea this is an interesting spin on the Valentino DNA” or “this is a strong tobacco honey version of the classic jpg smell”. Do you think the notes lists are literal or something?
>>18684402>I assumed these perfume makers are starting with a base formulaelmao yeah they contract a new perfumer that comes with their own ideas, and they also want to maximize the money they make by chasing the current trends but they set a strict rule to use the same 'base formula' because 'we're JPG we always start with the same base'>That’s why you hear people say “yea this is an interesting spin on the Valentino DNA”First time discovering people say retarded things?
>>18684113>is fashion about self expression or looking appealing >if I had to choose I would say looking appealing. No one wants to have to look at your personal favorite colors, we don’t want that inflicted upon us. I’m all for personal choice and freedom, but just wear what the group wants when you’re in public. Put on the uniform.
>>18684407>you think the cologne I bought at my local Macys is some kind of branded product owned by a mega corporation that makes all the decisions and has all the power?!?! Lmao ok dudeYes, and I think you’re clearly a rube if you think otherwise. These are not handcrafted products, they are someone like L’Oréal licensing a fashionable name to push the most appealing smells in people’s faces over and over… with derivations just small enough to make them consider another purchase. That’s EXACTLY what the term “designer fragrance” means.
anyone tried this?https://www.parfumo.de/Parfums/arabiyat-prestige/marwaimagination clone for like 50 bucks with raving reviews. seems too good to be true as always. I havent bought a single clone yet but the amount of 8,9,10 star revies is a bit high
>>18684381You the laundry guy? If so, you're welcome.
lol these threads are now overrun by clonejeets
>>18684408There is far more self expression in fragrance than there is in fashion. Each fragrance smells distinct from each other, every single outfit is just the same with different colors. People do wear a uniform. Pants and shirts.
GUYS. JOMA WENT FULL RETARD AGAIN, THIS TIME ON SERGE LUTENS. LIMITED QUANTITIES. GET YOUR SHIT NOW IF THERE'S SOMETHING HERE YOU WANT.
i bought a aventus wannabe infuser for my car, im not a fan of this smell as a cologne. it smells like a coworker
