Is being performative just some new trend or has fashion always been this way?
>>
Have you ever watched a fashion show? All it is is peacocking. Nobody actually wears that shit.
>>
>>18691271
>is doing specific popular things for others' attention a new thing
No.

You can tell he hardly, if ever wears the jacket because of how hard he struggled to put his hand into his pocket.
>>
It used to just be models but now everyone thinks they’re a model thanks to smart phones and social media.
>>
>>18691271
wow those pants make him look so much shorter than if they were a slimmer fit.
>>
>>18691271
>performative
Grow up already
>>
>>18691292
they don't
>>
>yeah bro I'm tall *wears boots with 10 inch heels*
>>
>>18691430
yeah they do they look like clown pants
>>
>>18691271
that might be the worst jacket i have ever seen in my life
>>
>>18691292
slim fit pants are intrusive, low class, and plain rude.
>>
>>18691292
lol
>>
>>18691271
So what is the opposite of that? Being ”genuine” and wearing things because of their function rather than their form? Look, people started wearing blue jeans in the 50s outside their intended purpose and I think in garments this has almost always been the case. Garments usually originate from a purpose standpoint and then they become something that is worn outside that intended purpose. So what exactly does performative mean?
>>
>>18691271
The fucking cup is empty
>>
>>18691845
It's just reinventing the wheel using that word. Because 'try-hard' and 'poser' already exist. And pretty much mean the same thing. Or how the word 'hipster' was used so derisively like 15 years ago. Mocking people for for the perceived amount of effort they put into wearing their outfit. But, it's a bit like that: 'everybody who drives slower than me is an idiot, everyone who drives faster than me is a manic'. But, fashion. Everyone who puts less effort in than me is a slob. Everyone one who puts in more is performative. I thinks how people feel. Often. But, I think it's good that people try. Even if they swing-and-miss. That said, that man in the OP looks like a trend-chasing homo in his retarded bagginess.
>>
>>18691271
It's a good fit and he's a tall white man. I fuck with him.
>>
>>18691845
>>18691862
It comes from performative activism because it became a trend on social media for left leaning men dressed in a certain style to pose pretending to read feminist literature in some cafe.
>>
>>18691271
Being 170cm in Italy is such a flex
>>
>>18691862
No it isn't, performative is not at all a new word.
>>
>>18691862
Performative is a specific version of poser or effort-post though. Doing a fit check from across the street as you walk out of a cafe with an empty drink is performative.
Doing a fit check in your home before you leave is not performative regardless of how high-effort or plain the outfit is.
Social media has made everyone more performative, and I don't blame them. Who wouldn't want to make money that way if you're already into fashion?
>>
>>18692265
Of course it's not a new word. But, in this context. 'Performative male' is only like a year old.
>>
>>18691271
Social media has made it worse. 10-15 years ago most regular men didn't used to do gay shit like this. It was mostly women. Men usually dressed normally, but not like complete slobs like these days. Those floaty pants he's wearing look gay as fuck, like they're women's pantsuit pants. If you did gay shit like this in the 2000s, you'd get beat up or bullied until you stopped being a fag.

He's not tall kek, those places are just small. I'm not a tallfag either but I still duck my head in the doorway of some of these old ass buildings and shops. The side of the heel is maximum kek too.

You know how there is a plane studio set and influencers go there to do little photoshoots and pretend they're on a private jet? Someone should make a studio set where everything is just a bit small. Like, a room where all the objects and doorframes and everything is just a little bit smaller. And you charge men to go there to take selfies for their tinder profile.
>>
>>18691883
tell us more, how is he as a lover?
>>
a 'performative male' reads up the current meta for what will get them the most positive female attention.
>>
>>18692289
It's not, just the latest buzzword people have learned.
>>
>>18691845
Most fashion/design originates from function, or rather finding a solution that manages to perform the function while looking as good as possible. Things that look ill-suited for their purpose look bad no matter what, e.g. wearing a puffer jacket in warm weather or wearing rugged outdoor workwear despite being an effeminate guy in HR who always stays inside with aircon.

This is where 'new money' etc comes from. People adopt habits of the rich without understanding the reason why they do it, hence it looks tacky

>being performative

This doesn't mean anything. It's just something you see online retards talking about like "humiliation rituals" and other things that were not around ten years ago.

Do you mean making vertical videos of oneself for attention? Well that's about vanity and ego, not fashion. There will always be such unfortunates.
>>
>>18691282
No, it's just new. These weirdos film themselves in stuff as soon as they get them

No. It's never been this way. People have always liked to impress others but still chose clothing they personally liked the look of and appreciated them in an individualist way. These days is almost fancy dress, it's ALL performance. Less about your look and what you love, feel comfortable in

Companies have caught on and found a way to profit. This example is subtle but the idea is the same. Nobody bought this because they adored the look of it. It's a novelty, a piece worn with a lol

Fashion shows are like concept cars. It's just concepts of shit. The ready to wear stuff they put out is actually normal-looking with some features from the fashion show.
